It's their choice to stay ignorant. Let them be ignorant.

Who gives a s**t as long as we get our rights and they leave us the hell alone. Whether their opinion is wrong or right, fact or fiction, statement or not, they get to have their opinion. As long as they're not physically hurting any one of us.

We will fight for our rights, we will win them, and they will have to shut the ******** up and mind their own business.

I'm inclined to agree with you--except that we live in a democracy. When ignorant people are given the right to vote, we end up with Bush in the office. Twice. (Not counting his father.)

But if we begin to alleviate ignorance from the grassroots up, we could have better senators, governors, presidents--you name it. It all starts with enlightenment.

Uninformed opinions are a right. WE have the right to challenge one with our own information, but it doesn't matter who is right and who is not, uninformed opinions are still a right. You cannot forbid them. If they turn violent or slanderous, you can call them hate speech as they violate others' personal freedoms, but you ultimately must tolerate them unless you can change them in the person's mind. Share the wealth of facts and arguments that when simply put, are pretty much undeniable to anyone. To eliminate an uninformed opinion, inform it. But to say that an uninformed opinion is not an opinion at all, is a fallacy in itself, Leav.

I agree with what else you've said, but if we value logic and reason, use them on people who do not possess either.

I kind of tend to disagree with you, OP. I am gay, and I really don't care what other people think, or what they say. They can think and say that I am going to hell. They can think and say that I shouldn't be allowed to marry a man I am in love with. They are allowed to have those disagree with me, because that is the nature of a free society. However they have no right to stop me. In marrying a man, in being gay, I am doing nothing to harm them, so they have no right to stop me.

The argument that I expect to hear in response to this is that because of the system their thoughts and statements can have the potential to harm me. However the problem there is not that they have differing thoughts, but the system. That is the downfall of democracy - the wolves will always vote to eat the sheep.

My proposed solution to this problem is to remove marriage as a legal institution. The gunverment should have nothing to do with it. That is the only way for everyone to be happy. The psychotic Christians can have their anti-gay churches, and other churches that are more open minded will allow same-sex marriages.

Dunno if any of you will agree with me or not, but this is my opinion, and I hope that you take something from it, anyway.

EDIT:

Saw this post on a website I frequent, and thought I would share it.
