A snowball fight would be awesome! Out of curiosity, would any of you two like to be in charge of that?

Aaand just to record ideas:

- Yule Ball Stuff -
Masquerade
Masquerade Portraits (Juni)
Snowball Fight (MyMoonlitDream)

If there's going to be a Masquerade, do you think we should have some kind of avatar contest related to that? I know alot of people wanted a costume contest during Fright Week and we didn't do that. The Ghost host contest is still going on, but a masquerade contest would just be focused on you members instead of dressing up someone else.

Maybe Serithia and I could be in charge of it together, if she's willing to do that.

Avatar contests can be quite popular. Will someone please describe to me what a masquerade-themed avi contest would be? There are lots of other options for avi contests as well. Maybe have a couple different categories. (Price limit for tektek, or not?)

Anybody got any ideas for categories?
Masquerade?
Christmas-y (duh)
House-themed (including house elves) (a winner from each sub-category - the 4 houses and house elves - could be decided, and then an overall winner)
Harry Potter character look-alike

The last time the guild had various categories for an avi contest, we had trouble filling out the categories... so there were only about... 2 or 3 entries per category. I felt it was awkward since then there was about a 50 50 chance you could win. Not quite as competitive. If the guild was super active I might think differently about the category thing, but the action hasn't really picked up.

Maybe we could combine christmas and masquerade together and have a christmasy masquerade theme?

That's true. And the guild activity hasn't really been all that great this term (or so it seems to me, anyway). We can wait and do multiple categories once it's more active again.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly IS a christmasy masquerade? I looked up masquerade, but I'm still a bit confused. [Apparently I'm not all that bright. sweatdrop ] I a masquerade just fancy dress with masks? Or is it kind of a costume thing?

Pretty much dress with masks sort of thing. I mean you can costume things up too, but it's not blatantly weird and scary like Halloween costumes are.

So a christmasy masquerade themed avi contest would just be "fancy/formal dress" with masks and in christmas colors. Does that give people enough of a chance to be creative?

Well it doesn't have to be too formal. Really, if it were me handling it, the contest would give leeway for people to get as creative as you want provided that you have something covering your eyes/face and the outfit has holiday themes.

Sure I'll head the snowball fight with you Lyra. Let's talk specifics sometime. And I'm going to agree with Juni's idea of it not having to be too formal. While I think it's possible to have a holiday themed formal dress, it would limit the creativity of and difference between the entries. Giving more freedom to the entrants would in more interesting results.

I definitely agree with what Juni said about the avi contest.
That sounds good, Serithia. We can just PM each other to sort out the specifics.
Juni, when will these events be starting? It would be helpful to at least have a rough date for when we need to have everything sorted out by.

I like the sound of the 18th. Nice even number. In theory, the Yule Ball will go on until the end of the month, including New Year's, maybe even a couple days after that.

Hi all, I have no time for running anything, but I'd just thought I'd throw my two cents in. I think the problem I had with um, black out event was that the dice rolling for the fighting was a little bit complex. Now, I know that might sound crazy coming from me, since I have a complex system for my rp, but I think for an event that is only lasting a few days people sometimes get discouraged when they see this huge list of rules.
The other problem is that it is sometimes hard to get people to interact with your "character" and that can be a bit of a downer, if you come in late and everyone is already sort of teamed up then you can get left out.
Um, lastly...I have one but I don't know how to phrase it...I guess I feel like there could be more supervision? I think the kids tend to get bored when things are moving along? Maybe? something like that.
Some of this stuff look really hard to do and that is probably why it doesn't get done....But there isn't much of December left, well especially for me, I'm going away for Christmas until New Year so I wont be around. So, my point is that maybe rough it out and then just throw it up so that we don't miss another event?
Oh, last hint: try romance, it's a very popular genre for Gaia yes? Don't know what you can do with that...introduce a mysterious masked boy...man...guy at the masquerade who flirts with everyone and steals some kisses. (OMG SANTA!....wait, old man kissing? gross)
kay, shutting up now, good luck!

I had no part in the black out event but I understand most of your meaning... anything I don't understand is probably because I wasn't in the event o_o' Speaking of which, what do you mean by supervision?

we-ell, I just mean that sometimes there were kind of longer periods where students would be left to their own devices and then we have a lot of 'hey, who wants um....cookies?' and then because no on can think of anything else everyone gets out cookies and it gets pretty repetitive and boring. That is kind of what happened at the Blackout, though I suppose most of the people offering things were House Elves not students. And I guess that is another thing to think about, our most active members are going to be the people who just joined, which are going to be the house elves, maybe there should be extra thought put into activities for them. I just think someone in charge needs to be there kind of guiding the kids so they don't get bored out of their minds. Yes?

The Masquerade sounds like a lot of fun! I love to dress my avi up!
Also avi contest are always fun, but I think there should be one categorie and we just tell them what it will be or you just summit what you want and people vote.
With the snow ball fight will it be free for all or will there be house teams?

I think I know what ONLYTONI means about the supervision thing. Since everyone was busy doing their own thing, we couldn't help the shortages of mods running the event. Also its hard to supervise when we're all from different timezones so that could have played a role in why the event seemed to drag on for some people.

As for the dice game with monsters. I thought that everyone was able to jump in on the game. I didn't play for the first few days, but I was still able to jump in the game. I know what you mean about the rules, but the rules were there so that the game could go on smoother and orderly instead of chaos and confusion. But I guess since there were a lot rules, it did discourage others from joining the fun.

Okay, now for Masquerade ideas. Dressing up is the dress code for the event. If we weren't so close to Christmas, we could have probably done the Gift Exchange/Secret Santa thing again. I thought that was a bit of fun. I'll keep thinking up something. Also, we need a new date for the event since the 18th has passed us.
