Moku just nodded the boy clearly wanted him to give him some sort of instruction. “ okay fine let me see what can I get you to do…” Moku said as he thought for a second. Reaching into his coat yet again Moku pulled out a cube. It was a simple rubix cube that Moku used when he was bored. He hadent completed any side of it yet so the Minoru should take some time to finish it. “ here” moku simply said as he tossed to the boy. “ take some time to do that if you want.” It should keep him plenty busy. Moku took a look at the other students who he now knew the names of thanks to the stack of papers he always had on him. It looked like Moku had made the knots too tight and they seamed to not be able to get out. Rubbing his head moku guessed he should of held off a little more when he tied them.

Minoru took the rubix cube and looked it over. He had never seen anything like it. At first he had no idea what he was supposed to do with it. Was it some sort of weapon? Was it something so diabolical that it was given the codename "Rubix?" After Minoru realized that the colors were on every side and that it was possible to movie the various sides around, he determined that the point was to make all the sides match. He quickly set off to do just that, since Moku-sama was busy with other people. Minoru wished he could figure out what they were doing. However, given the task at hand, he would be there a while.

Well that failed. It really was a six-sided torture device. Maybe he was supposed to get all the sides to match and then throw it at someone so it would explode in a flash of multi-colored light? It would be beautiful and practical. Perhaps it was filled with paint to make painting houses easier? Or even better, it could be filled with acid to dissolve someone who solved it wrong. Minoru didn't really want to think about that last one. He didn't want to be dissolved... It wasn't exactly something he put down on the list of fun things to do. Although, this cube did look pretty solid. He wondered if he could be used to keep something safe from intruders, like a really complicated lock.

"One side completed, only five to go!" Minoru thought as he tried to figure out how to get the other side’s completed without screwing up the one he had just finished. Maybe there was some sort of trick required... something so simple that only people like Moku-sama knew how to do it. Maybe he just had to think his way through it... "Of course!" whispered Minoru, "I have to think my way through it." The only problem was Minoru didn't know how this cube worked. Maybe one day he'd make a Jutsu where the other person would have to solve one of these or die. The thought brought a smile to his face; he just hoped that wasn't the case with this one.

The stupid little cube was harder than it looked. Every time Minoru tried to get one of the other side’s complete he screwed up the one he had already done. Maybe he could re-paint the cube and say he was done. But that was the lazy way out and Minoru was anything but lazy. He would get this cube done even if it killed him. He just hoped it wasn't as hard as the hand seals had been. Unfortunately he never had that kind of luck; he was as unlucky as anyone. Even becoming a ninja was a result of his horrible luck. He never wanted to be a ninja; it was something he decided to do so he could go back out into the world again. That was better than being stuck with his angry uncle anyway.

"Two sides down!" Minoru whispered triumphantly. Unfortunately as the sides began to match, the harder it was to not screw up the other two sides. At least he hadn't begun to lose his mind. Staying focused was the top priority here, since this cube was challenging. So challenging in fact, that he didn't know how on earth he was going to complete all the sides. How did anyone? Did the cube revert to where you had started once you got close to finishing? If you could finish, did it speak to you or something? Could you make the cube into some sort of deadly weapon? These were all things that ran through Minoru's mind as he tried to complete the remaining sides.

After the third side was completed, Minoru wondered if the cube was reading his mind or something. He was halfway done, but he knew the hard part was just beginning. Unless the cube really could read his mind and if that was the case he hoped it wasn't able to follow him around. He didn't want one following him around... The sound of a Rubix cube ninja was a cool thought. The ninja could through exploding rubix cubes, cubes with spikes, and who knows what else. It was an intriguing thought. From what he had seen there were all types of ninjas out there, and it wasn't too strange to imagine a Rubix cube themed one was it?

"Well that failed horribly," grumbled Minoru as he managed to screw up the three sides he had completed. After a minute or two he had managed to get the three sides back to the way they were supposed to be. Thinking that there must be an easier way to do this confounding puzzle, Minoru began to experiment with various moves. In a way, this cube was like a different version of a game he had played while he used to stop during his family's travels. There was the castle, and a guy on horseback, a man with a helmet, and two regal looking people in the center. There were a lot of people who all wore the same things as the front line on both sides. Minoru wondered if the two regal people were like the Hokage, and the front lines were the ninja. It was defiantly food for thought.

Another failure to his credit greeted Minoru like a punch to the face. Did the gods make the first three sides easy so they could laugh at him try and complete the last three? Maybe the rubix cube had a life of its own. He couldn't logically bring that up to people, lest they wonder how sound his mind was. Maybe that's what this cube was for; a metaphor for life. You could try everything you could think of, but you couldn't always get everything right. You can't win everything, but that wasn't an excuse to never try anything. Every time you got hurt, you had to heal up and try again and again until you got it right.

The cube had some serious issues apparently. This cube was yet again refusing to do what he wanted. Sure blaming the cube was insane, but it made Minoru feel better and that's all that mattered. The thought did cross his mind that Moku-sama had given this cube so he wouldn't bother him. Maybe the anger that was in Moku-sama's voice had been directed at him because he looked different. Maybe it was because he wasn't from some prominent clan like many of the other ninjas. Minoru may have acted like he didn't mind, but he saw the stares that people would give him. It was perfectly ok to distrust outsiders, but he just wished that they had the courage to say it to his face instead of behind his back.

"Failure seems to be all I’m good at," Minoru thought as he failed yet again to get the sides to match up. "Do other people have these kinds of problems? Maybe I’m not destined to be a ninja." The thoughts running through his head weren't helping his mood, or his progress. It was the same with the hand seals; he just couldn't seem to get them correct. He had succeeded with the seals eventually, but he knew that other people had a much easier time with it. "This must be the difference between me and those ninjas from other clans. They're just genetically superior. Fine then, I’ll just work twice, no a hundred times as hard to catch up to them. I won't let them leave me behind."

Minoru's mood improved considerably as he finished the fourth side. He only had two remaining, and he was trying to think through every move imaginable before trying any particular one. Truth be told, Minoru didn't know what kind of ninja he wanted to be. There were all types of ninja in the world. Was he going to be a stealthy assassin? A frontline tank? A spy? An infiltrator? There were many roads available to him, but he didn't know what he wanted to do. For now Minoru wanted to become the best ninja he could. He wouldn't do it by having the skills handed to him, nor by any sort of power drawn from his ancestors. He would do it through hard work and unparalleled dedication to the ninja arts.

"Never expect the end to be easy..." thought Minoru as he got slightly frustrated. Still he wouldn't learn anything if it wasn't hard. Life was about the journey, not the destination. He had learned that as he wandered with his family for the last eleven years of his life. He had seen all kinds of strange people and objects during his time. One of the things that bothered him about living in one place was how everyone seemed to only care about their own little world. There were more important things than what went on in your daily life. There were people out there who were starving while some people ate huge meals every day. How could they live with themselves? Minoru wondered how the clans bickered so much. It wasn't like they were any more important than anyone else. One day, Minoru would show them all that. But for now he had to focus on this cube from hell.

Struggling with the cube, it was getting more and more tempting to cheat. But that never got anyone anywhere in the long run. It was one of the things that bothered him so much about some of the more powerful clans. They got instant recognition for who they were, not what they had done. Of course some of the elders had done great things, and they were worthy of respect, and Minoru was willing to give credit where credit was due. But some of the younger members were treated easier, at least in Minoru's opinion, by the populace. Everyone seemed to want to suck up to the big, bad clans. They hadn't done anything worthy, and as such they weren't worth respecting. Sure you should respect everyone, but not like people who had done real good work in the world. Minoru didn't expect anyone to respect him, and he didn't want anyone to until he had accomplished something worthy of respect.

How could one little cube cause so many problems? Maybe it really was a bizarre ninja weapon of certain doom. The doom being that anyone who tried to get this cube to work was destined to go insane and throw themselves in a well. He didn't know where he would find a well only that he would need one if this took much longer. Minoru had the unfortunate habit of keeping at something even if it meant not eating or sleeping. It was a habit he needed to break before it really got dangerous. Most of the problems arose when something took him a long time. Any task that could be completed in one or two hours wasn't a problem; however something that took one or two days could become dangerous. Minoru often wondered if some of the other ninja shared his outlook on life.
