I want a bass flute. A contrabass flute would be cool too.
I play piccolo. I'm the only one this year in band. ^_^ Even though I'm afraid to play because people can hear me and I'm like O.O -paranoid-

Bass and contrabass flutes cost a HECK of a lot of money. But I'm not someone who likes to stray near the lower register anyway, so I don't know. That's probably why I'm not saving up for one. xD
I used to have a piccolo player sit next to me. She was really awesome at it, so she got the part and everything so she'd play it whenever it was needed and it seemed as though most of the songs we played needed it. I endured great pains during that time period. sweatdrop

Piccolos can damage your ear drums if you continously play them in a small room. I need ear plugs..

That would explain why my ears are partially messed up at the moment. stare I didn't think it would be so loud, but when you're right at the end...

My friend, a harpist, and I were going to do a duet together and when we were practicing at her house we had to share a stand and the end of my flute was right at her ear practically and she can't stand high pitches so she had to wear ear plugs.

I see where you're coming from. One of my friends is a french hornist and she absolutely despises any tones from a flute that go above a middle G. So whenever I play at her house, she always makes sure she's sitting on my left side. xD

Well, the piccolo who sits next to me isn't as annoying as most picc players, but I think she somehow just manages to play really quietly. I can hardly hear her from two feet away. Last year's symphonic band picc was about the only thing I could distinctly hear in their band. She's really good too.
Then there's me, I couldn't play picc to save my life. Which reminds me of the evil first chair, but I will not delve farther into that subject. I just really hope that she doesn't decide to stick around after she graduates.

p-chan08 flute player here. been playing since 4th grade. (in 10th) flutes are the best. like i say "flutes r sexy!" Yes! Flutes are smexay. xd Aw. Ash Rail, that's too bad! But it's great to know that you're section leader for alto! I don't think I'll ever be a section leader. .__.

It's only a guess. I just realized that I'm really close to it this year. Though I'm not entirely sure, I think the band director last year left me as his recommendation last year, before he left. I also noticed that the new director (who I believe is the old director of someone I met here) was paying close attention to me. Much more than the other possible canditates in my section.
Because of that, I decided not to try switch picc ; ;
Though, I would be a one man section.
Section leader either way, i guess.

4laugh I just got a new flute! I no longer have to play on the crappy school flute, it made me so happy today when I was able to walk up to my BD and him that flute.

I see...maybe your talent sticks out and radiates from you. xD
And to Hotaru...awesome! Good for you - I know the pain of playing with a loaner instrument from school. I once had to play on a flute with a sticky key and the foot joint had a dent in it...the things people do to the poor loaners!
