Matsuya smiled warmly to Luo as he took the folder and promised to keep it safe. This smile stayed firmly planted on Matsuya's face as Luo explained that, in return for accompanying him to a diplomatic signing, Matsuya would be allowed to visit Konohagakure and also lead the team to Iwagakure. Matsuya nodded curtly again. "Of course. I'll be more than happy to be your second guard during this meeting. And I'm also honored that you considered me capable to lead the village in your absence." Matsuya had, at the moment, no qualms with waiting a little longer to depart. He, after all, was more than happy to wait if it was a question of his friend's safety. Out of habit more than anything Matsuya began to play with the stitches of his sleeve.

Matsuya glanced to the side as Masaki entered the office to deliver his report. Matsuya only recognized the boy from the fight he'd joined soon after his return to Kirigakure. The fight had left Luo the victor and Matsuya healing up for a few weeks after. Though, it was the boys words that startled Matsuya more than anything. Hairs began to rise on the back of his neck as Masaki told the tale of a man killing a guard for nothing more than sport and a young Hokage.

A young boy who uses snake. It couldn't be...Zin? Zin was made Hokage? Or did he force himself into office? He is his father's son, after all. And nothing is impossible. But I need to go! Now! I have to talk to him.

Matsuya's eyes shot to Luo, while his hand shot to his equipment pouch. It withdrew a roll of bandages. The old disguise would have to do for this occasion. "Luo, I have to leave. Now. It seems time is of the essence and it doesn't seem to be on my side at the moment. I know who the Hokage is. It is Zin Naga. And trust me when I say this, that child is a danger to the shinobi world if he follows in his father's footsteps. It is not my right to tell you who that is, however. I swore to keep that a secret the first time I met the child." Matsuya took a minute from speaking to pull the other sleeve of his robe onto his free arm. He also took the roll of bandages and wrapped it tightly from his nose to just under his Adam's apple. It effectively covered his face and neck. He spoke again, slightly muffled by the bandages. "I will meet you in Shimogakure. If you are not there when I arrive, I will send word to you of my location and await your orders." Matsuya adjusted his backpack on his shoulders so that he could easily run with it on. He nodded to Luo and walked briskly out of the office. He needed to hurry and get to Konohagakure. If Orochimaru's son had become Hokage, Matsuya might be the only person who could talk the boy out of following the wrong path.

Zdura walked into the base of the tower, and directly to the secretary's desk. Quickly spreading the best approximation of a friendly smile across his face as he could through the mask, he raised a hand in greeting. He had seen some of this woman, and knew quite well that he didn't want to get on her bad side any time soon, so he would strive to be on friendly relations with her. "Is the mizukage available?" he asked, gesturing towards the stairs he knew to lead to the man's office.

((Phone post))

Gage listened quietly as the Mizukage addressed Matsuya. It was then that he remembered a small detail that had slipped his mind. 'Dead men tell no tells...' He thought as he recalled the conversation with Matsuya when he had first arrived in the Mist Village. Luo had asked Matsuya to acompany him to the signing of an alliance with another village. "But isn't he suppose to be dea---" Gage muttered, stopping before he could finish, hoping no one heard him. Luo continued, whether or not he heard Gage, wasn't on his mind at that point. Gage shut his brain off as he listened to the Mizukage speak.

Luo had originally planned for Matsuya to be the temporary Kage in his absence, but Matsuya's plans to leave left him at a stalemate. 'This is awkward...' Gage thought as the Mizukage dismissed that thought from his mind with a quick solution to the problem. 'Now I see why he is the Mizukakge...' He thought to himself as the man turned to address him. Gage held his breath, hoping that he'd be able to go. However, to his disapproval, he was denied for having a flimsy reason. 'Darn...' He thought to himself. He knew the Mizukage was right, but he also knew Matsuya's intentions. It was originally planned for Matsuya and Gage to leave and send a message back to Luo about their departure. The only thing that stopped them was Luo's idea of punishment.

The mixture of Gage's emotions began to show, but he fought them back as much as he could. Luo continued speaking then told Gage he had a spot on the Iwagakure investigation team. 'If you only knew...' Gage thought as he remembered his conversation once more with Matsuya only the day before.

It was then Luo acknowledged yet another knock on the door. To Gage's surprise, a young boy came bouncing through the door. The boy gave Luo a deep bow then began speaking about some mission he had went on and the fact that he was here to give a report. He also added he was here about some training that Luo had given him personally. Luo, seeming intrigued by the questions, wagered the training on the boy's ability to give an oral mission report. 'This should be interesting.' He thought as the boy began.

A smile could be seen on Gage's face as the boy spoke. 'Oh to be that young and simple again...' He thought as he laughed inwardly about the boy's simplicity. The report was more on how he was treated by his leader more then anything, but it was to the point. He got the point across to Gage about snakes and pointless killings. The thought of killing for fun made Gage shiver. He started to silently thank the Mizukage for denying him his request.

Just as the boy finished Matsuya began moving. He seemed a bit unerved by the report. The man had pulled some bandages put of his pack and wrapped his face after he told them who the Hokage was. Gage cringed at the name Naga. You weren't a true shinobi if you didn't know about the Naga's legacy. All the same, Matsuya seemed to have personal connections to the boy, yes the boy, who was the current Hokage. With his disguise complete, which was simply bandages over his face, Matsuya mumbled something about the signing before darting off. 'Somethings really wrong.' He thought as he turned to Luo. This time, however, is tounge didn't stay put. "Isn't he suppose to be dead outside of the Mist. I'm missing something here..." Gage said, not realizing what he said till too late. His gaze met Luo's expressionless grin. Gage knew he had said more then he was suppose to and simply waited for the question he knew Luo would ask.

It wasn't log before Luo knew that Masaki had accepted the challenge, not bothering to waste the time to say he had but instead commencing the mission report. At first it was a struggle to understand just what Masaki meant and who he was talking about, but after a moment Luo began to grasp the general idea. Still, it was clear to him that he'd have to get a formal written report from Aoi to get a more in depth idea of what was going on in Konoha. Throughout the story though, Luo's mind remained on the tidbit about Himura. "I didn't send Himura to Konohagakure. In fact, I saw him just this morning at the mission board." It was an oddity for Luo until he began to really think about the situation. He hadn't sent Himura, but he had sent his son. It was possible that Yamatano had disguised himself as his father, but for what reason Luo couldn't place a finger on. Furthermore, why was he arguing with the Hokage?

As Masaki finished his report it seemed Matsuya wasted no time in preparing to leave, the look he shot to Luo confirming this for him before he spoke. However as usual the evidence for Luo's conclusion followed after he had come to it. Matsuya was leaving and there was no stopping him, something Luo knew for a fact. He also suspected his visit to Konoha would be longer than he expected. Sighing heavily as Matsuay left, he stared at his desk for a moment in frustration although his face didn't seem to show it, his grin diminishing. Within moments, he went from having his plans set to once again being forced to find yet another guard for his trip. Tapping the desk with his index finger he thought to himself, "Well, at least he gave me an actual name to go with the Hokage who seems to have an affinity for snakes."

Turning his attention to Masaki he muttered, "Masaki, next time try and remember names and conversation in better detail. You'll get training, but it won't be from me. Sarutobi will oversee your training again, unless you have someone else in mind." Luo had known for quite some time that Masaki had been avoiding Sarutobi, mainly because Sarutobi spent a lot of his time stalking the kid and making sure he was okay. He didn't know what the man had said or done to upset Masaki, but he'd shown a clear disdain towards even his mention in the past. In doing this the answer was clear, Masaki had lost the wager. "Perhaps on your next mission Masaki, your report will be more detail oriented."

It was then that Gage blurted something out without thought, his expression saying it all as he stared at Luo. He knew the next question Luo was going to ask, and without warning the tone with which Luo spoke seemed to change drastically despite there seeming to be no change in pitch. "What do you mean by that statement Urashimi?" Luo's gaze was unyielding, even as the speaker on his desk crackled in. It was his secretary informing him of yet another visitor, by the sound of it Zdura. There was no answer to be had however, Luo's attention still on Gage as he waited for a response. Luo had surpassed any cordial gestures and skipped to honorifics, using the boy's last name instead of his first as if to instantly distance himself from someone who seemed to know more than they should have. There he sat, patient in his pursuit of an answer. It was only a matter of seconds until his request would come to fruition.

'What have I done...' Gage thought to himself as Luo gave his verdict on the boy's ability to give a report. He wasn't really paying attention at that point. He was in too much of a panic about what he had said only moments before. 'Darn it... Why didn't I think before I spoke... That's why I'm still a genin.' He thought, knowing that even though Matsuya himself told Gage that, he would also have to share with Luo the fact of his permanent disguise.

Suddenly, Gage's thoughts where ended with an abrupt silence, followed by the stern voice of the Mizukage. He knew he was in for it, no matter what he would answer, so he decided it might be best to tell the truth. Gage's hanging head rose to meet Luo's unchanged gaze. It's like the man was emotionless, making it a little more uncomfortable. Before Gage could answer, the speaker cracked and the secretary spoke of another visitor. 'I need to be out of here soon...' He thought as he finally answered the man.

"Matsuya and I exchanged secrets. So I guess you could say I heard it from the horses mouth." Gage told the man, his eyes looking towards the boy before looking back at Luo in silence. He hoped his terminology would be enough for Luo to know he was willing to spill, but not at a time like this.

((If you are holding a hammer, all of your problems look like nails.
I'm not even sure he remembers why he is mad at Sarutobi, just that he is))
Masaki's face turned up in disgust at the mention of Sarutobi. No, he wasn't interested in training with that guy if there were any other options. Luo didn't like his report, but he had recited everything that he could remember. What did Luo want? the color of the streets? well... there had been a lot of red on the main road... "Errr, Luo sensei? what more should I have remembered?" He didn't think he had ever heard the Hokage's name and he was certain under the close watch as they were that searching for details was pretty impossible at his strength. It was kind of funny how everything tended to fall back on how weak he was.

Then Luo started questioning the other guy. Masaki stood quietly, unsure if he shhould still be there. He hadn't been dismissed, but it sounded like he was interrogating him. He felt his stomach rumble slightly, too quietly to be audible, but enough that the boy could feel it. He didn't mind eating in the wild, but he had gotten used to having a bowl of ramen every now and then and was thinking this suspiciously resembled a now or a then.

"Well Masaki as I said details. Average height, weight, facial features, surroundings, temperament. You touched on these things very lightly, however it barely paints a picture in my head of who was there and what was happening. Surely by looking around a room you could have picked up a bit more than that." Drumming the fingers of his left hand Luo said at last, "You gathered the supplies for a masterpiece, however you forgot the brush." What Luo had said was an honest slip of the tongue. He tried usually to not let such examples slip from his mouth, at least when he knew it may not bare any fruit. That was to say, there was a reason Luo was the leader of a clan of intellectuals, and not everything he said was easy to understand. However, in letting it slip he did not think Masaki was so blind that he could not see what Luo was getting at, and if he did not Luo would waste no time going into it any further, waving a dismissive hand at the matter, utterly exhausted of it for now. He left Masaki with a few fleeting last words muttering, "If in two days you do not find a suitable teacher, I will see to it that Sarutobi be informed to meet you at the Kiri Training Facility."

As Gage responded, Luo seemed to stare blankly at him for a moment, his irises seeming to look through him rather than at him. He was thinking, and his attention while there enough to hear and internalize what the boy said, was not entirely there in the least. His eyes after a moment seemed to shift and lock onto Gage's as his tone remained the same however the menacing tone waned slightly as he said, "Well Urashimi, then I will expect to see you in my office by the end of this week." Looking from Urashimi to Masaki and then back he muttered, "In fact, why don't you tag along with Masaki here for the next two days. You'll need a sensei while here as well as training, I don't see why you both can't tackle this feat together." For Gauge it was advice, for Masaki it was a direct command. Gauge and Masaki would be tied at the hip for the next two days, no questions asked. For their sake he hoped they found a suitable teacher in time, perhaps Aoi if she wasn't too tired and possibly annoyed with her recent mission. However, in Luo's eyes Sarutobi really was the best choice. If they were to both get trained, and Luo was to assume like most Iwa-nin Gage had an affinity for doton, then a man who was able to teach both doton and suiton seemed to be the perfect match. However, it took away the fun of watching from afar what they would do to find a sensei in the time frame given. He wouldn't simply force one upon them, no he would make them at least attempt to earn one.

------------------------------

((Aoi did go to the Nikko's didn't she? Or has my memory failed me?))
Masaki stared at Luo for a moment as he threatened to call in Sarutobi if he couldn't find a trainer. Masaki wasn't sure where to start, but he wasn't going to let that happen. Masaki was not entirely sure Luo was done, he hadn't directly dismissed them, but he did seem to be wrapping up with the order to let "Gage" tag along for training, something Masaki did not mind in the least. Having someone else to train with would be fun, and Masaki loved the idea of watching someone else get stronger. Perhaps they could be rivals? That would be so much fun! Masaki's only rival so far was snake kid, and as much as he hated to admit it he was a bit behind in that particular race. Without hesitating to see if Luo was truly done Masaki turned and left the office with a bow. He was pretty sure that it was over, and he wouldn't be Masaki if he stood around doubting himself. The worst that could happen would Luo would give him a beating to teach him respect, which would probably be the perfect opportunity to get stronger anyways. As soon as he got outside the building he started heading to Nikko's Ramen. "I need something to eat, besides someone at Nikko's might be able to help me find a teacher." Assuming Gage was following he entered the streets of Kirigakure and began pushing his way through the evening rush.

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."

Dashing across the roof-tops of Kiri, it was a quick journey for Kaizen to reach the Mizukage's Tower. Launching himself from the final roof-top and onto the side of the Tower, a quick dash up the side of the building brought him to the huge window that gave Luo an unimpeded view of the village. Peering into the room, Kaizen could see that Luo was there, and was not alone. He knew that Luo wouldn't be particularly pleased with his method of entry, but surely if he explained that simply walking here wasn't an option... Shaking his head Kai just sighed before rapping lightly on the window. Better to ask forgiveness than permission sometimes...

"... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."

As far as Luo was concerned, his meeting with Duo was over, motioning for one of the ANBU to open the door and escort him downstairs muttering, "Gage, it was a pleasure to meet with you. If you need anything do not hesitate to stop by. I apologize about the brief meeting however I have a heavy work load today and a lot of unexpected meetings have already placed me a bit behind." Nodding towards him as the door closed behind the pair, he began to open a few folders in front of him in order to get some things done before his next meeting. However, that notion was not meant to be. It wasn't long until as he placed his pen on the paper in front of him, a large shadow with spiky hair loomed over Luo into the room and towards the door in front of him. Without a change in expression he muttered aloud, "What the--" as he turned his head.

There, right before the man's eyes, was Kaizen Minoru rapping on his window. Sighing aloud Luo turned back to face the door for a moment before standing up, turning around once more to open the large window. As the village air seeped into the room and a light breeze entered Luo muttered, "And to what do I owe the pleasure of such a visit?"

As Luo looked up from his papers towards Kaizen, midnight blue gaze meeting snowy white, the young chuunin simply smiled and waved at his young mentor. Quickly slipping into the office as Luo opened the window, Kaizen lifted a hand to scratch the back of his head nervously as he replied to the man's question, "Sorry for not using the door, Luo-sama, I just came from the hospital and had to escape from the care of a very... imposing nurse. I just wanted to let you know that I'm ready to report for acti-" A sudden, sharp intake of breath cut Kaizen short as he stumbled forward to catch himself on Luo's desk, one hand clutching at his side, his face contorted into a pained grimace.

Closing the window as Kaizen hopped in and rounded Luo's desk to the other side, he turned to listen to what Kaizen had to say. Luo knew he had been in the hospital, apparently he had not been feeling too well in the last few days. He didn't know when he was supposed to be released, but by the looks of it he left early. It was when he attempted to report for duty that Luo watched him clutch his side in pain, his left palm landing forcefully on the bamboo causing a short echo to be emitted from the stalks he struck. Rarely did Luo's tone change, however in this instance it did as he placed a hand on Kaizen's shoulder.

"Kaizen are you alright? You do not look well enough to report for active duty, not at all." The pain on his face was unmistakable, beads of sweat beginning to form as well as the boy began to grit his teeth. "Just what exactly is Kaizen suffering from? This doesn't look like your everyday cold." Picking up his mug, Luo placed it in front of the boy as a sign that he should drink the water in it. Whatever was ailing the boy, it seemed to be quite serious.

Looking up to meet Luo's concerned gaze, Kai smiled weakly as he stiffly straightened to his full height stiffly, hand still clutching his side. Taking the mug that Luo offered, Kaizen drank deeply before letting out a satisfied sigh. Setting the mug back down, Kaizen inclined his head to Luo in thanks as he said, "I didn't realize just how much I needed that, thank you. It's really not that bad, I probably just over-exerted myself a little bit getting here, I'll just stick to using the roads next time." With an effort, Kaizen managed to move his hand from his side to the hilt of his sword. The only signs that he was still in pain would be the slight tightening of his jaw, and the whitening of his knuckles as they gripped his blade. Small things, barely noticeable by normal people, but then again, Luo Ushio was far from normal, as Kaizen knew well.

"I am ready to serve you Mizukage-Dono." The words were simple, but it was the determination in Kaizen's voice, and the fire in his eyes that lent weight to them. He would serve his Mizukage, and nothing would deter him.

Staring at Kaizen, Luo seemed to be giving him a once over as he spoke the first time. If he were truly alright he doubted the boy would have suffered a pain attack like that. He wondered how Kaizen assumed he could accompany Luo as a bodyguard while his body was in such a poor condition. His jaw was tense as he attempted to stand at ease comfortably, albeit to little avail. He could even see it in the way the boy's chest expanded and contracted, his breathing was off slightly, even hearing the irregularity in the breaths he took. It was then that Kaizen spoke once more, Luo staring at him blankly as he looked into his eyes. It was clear to him that he was not going to let the matter go.

"Kaizen, how do you expect to serve me when you can barely scale the roofs of the village? Are you sure your body will not fail you should the time come to truly protect me from harm?" The statement itself to Luo didn't really hold that much weight, since he knew that if it really came down to it and a threat was assessed at something too high for the pair to handle, if anything he'd protect them. However, believe it or not Luo trusted Kaizen and Yamatano, and it only made it clear to them that he did given the fact that he picked them of all the shinobi in the village to protect his life. He just didn't want the Chūnin's current ailment to hinder his ability to perform, or even cause a flare up that alarms anyone in Kumo to his ailing and possibly prompt someone to take it as a moment of opportunity. As usual, Luo wanted to be cautious, however he also wanted to make sure Kaizen was really alright.

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."

Crossing his arms over his chest, Kaizen set his jaw stubbornly, his eyes still full of fire, but he did listen to his Kage's words. He did not always like what the man said, but he was often right, and only a fool would think to ignore the words of Luo Ushio. You should listen to your master, boy, you're much too weak, Hokou said with a snicker, his voice booming in the back of Kaizen's mind, loud enough that he was sure Luo would hear, but of course he wouldn't. Lowering his gaze, Kaizen shook his head as his hands fell limply to his sides. He was always too weak. Too weak to save his parents, too weak to face Ghaniri... and even with all his new-found strength he was too weak to protect his Kage.

"I know that you have no reason to believe me, but I can fight through it if it comes to that. This pain is nothing... it will take a lot more than pain to keep me from doing my duty", Kaizen spoke softly, a sadness ringing in his words. Looking up to meet Luo's gaze, Kaizen's eyes pleaded with the man as he said, "Please Luo-Sama... let me do my duty. Let me see if I'm strong enough..."

"... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."
