"He's not coming near me until he stops channeling a psychotic and destructive creature," Renard answered, dodging Siber's question and staring intently at Joe. "I dislike Sages and Djinni equally but the Sage isn't near us right now." A large explosion sounded from the bottom floor. "Though he may soon be," Renard added. "It sounds like he finished blasting his way to the bottom floor."

Joe flew back and hit a wall. With no apparent effect. "That was wicked!" he said as the featureless fire of his face managed to portray a smile. "You gotta teach me that." Joe didn't seem particularly hostile, probably because he didn't regard Renard as a threat. He listened as they all spoke and shrugged at Renard. "I have no idea what you're talking about, but if you're not gonna fight me then I'm not gonna fight you. I'm not doing the whole flaming thing on purpose." Joe heard the explosion and simultaneously felt Sam's energy signature. Joe held up a hand. "Hold on a sec." He turned and launched himself straight at Sam's energy, crushing through a wall and shooting a white fireball at him.

"If he's not controlling that channeling himself, that means he's being possessed by a Djinn. That... is bad," Renard informed those in the area.
Joe found the wrong building. He found the Sage's building.
The Sage, however, was on a page that wasn't especially useful for addressing a charging Djinn-possessed elementalist. He threw up one of his few memorized spells, the shield.
Predictably, a shockwave occured. Renard mused as he nullified it with kinetics, that just once he'd like to see two kinds of magic interfere without anything exploding.

Paul flatly finished Siber's sentence. "We thought you were Legion or Abaddon. I thought Legion (or Abaddon) was blowing stuff up. I came to stop him before someone got hurt." He shrugged briefly. "If there's a Sage coming for our heads, let's get out of here. I dunno precisely what this Sage is, but based on the noises, I don't wanna find out." He shook his head; his head hurt just a touch, but he had a lot of mana and plenty of spells left in his iPod. "Should we move?" he asked, adjusting his broken glasses.
But he was too late.
Feeling the explosion, Paul rolled to the ground, grabbing his shadow as he went and wrapping himself in it. He might get tossed, but at least he would probably make it through unharmed.
((Venom: 1. How can Fyrin actually get to Renard? I didn't quite understand if he's on the same side of the freeway as the van and therefore Fyrin and his gang. 2. You never told me if it was okay for Fyrin to have a shield.
Siber: I know! I know! biggrin ))

((Diagram time! A B C D E F G A: The building the Sage just exited G: The building Samuel went into. Maybe with a few more between A and G. B: Section of open ground between building and freeway C: Freeway area no cars can get to because the area leading to it collapsed; Paul, Renard, and Siber are here D: Side of the freeway with cars backed up because of the collapsed section. E is open ground, F is where Renard was before he returned. Fyrin is on the A side, and yes, he has a shield.))
"This guy is a low-level Sage," Renard said after the shockwave passed, shaking his head. "He's got a good tome on him, but he hasn't memorized enough to be a good fighter. Relative to other Sages, at least. They don't cross disciplines between mobility and destruction until they rank Archsage, so only explosive s**t is to be expected. He's got a high mana potential, though. He can probably keep casting for a while."

Samuel twitched. Watching things with his third eye was getting a little disorienting.
((I just don't get it. I really don't. Portrayed invincibility just pisses me off, so I'll try to come up with something, but remember, I did say something before the main battle started. If it gets any worse, I'm just gonna leave.))

((Yeah, Joe, I feel obligated to warn you: You are godmoding with one of your two characters. He got saved from death once when he charged the Sage. People will be dying in Cabal. Maybe not named characters often. Maybe PCs even more rarely. But when the fighting gets messy, after each character's one defense from death, they're on their own.))

((Guess I'm not good enough to understand the diagram yet...now I'll just have my guy walk around untill someone finds him.))
Keilven is now wandering the streets, following the path of rubble leading him deeper into the *city* ((What are we in?)) in an attempt to find one or more of the warlocks.

((Side of a freeway in LA for most. A bit deeper in for the rest. Don't worry, I'm moving us into fictional cities in which we can weave city plans from whole cloth without worry for accuracy soon. Not that we're worrying for accuracy now, but yeah.
Past tense only, please, by the way.))
Keilven came across a certain building from which he can sense the unconcealed energy signatures of two warlocks.

((Was I? My bad, I didn't realize. I'll try not to.))
Joe went bouncing along the ground in the resulting shockwave. He pulled himself up. "That's not right," he muttered. He turned and ran, hopnig to make it out before the Sage got himself together.

The Sage was cradling his book - it appeared most of his energy had gone to protecting it. He glared up at Joe and his mouth began to move.

"Ahhh damn!" Joe cried. He threw a couple of handfuls of flechette-style fireballs to distract or hurt (doubtful) the Sage. He turned to run. "Someone wanna cover me?!" he called to Siber and Paul.

"On it!" Paul's voice came muffled through the shadow until he let it go, springing up and firing a quick barrage of seven, maybe eight explosive rounds from his pistol, followed up immediately by a quadruplet of fireballs, directly at the sage. After this he ducked into the shadow again, but not as completely; this time it was just in front of him, and there was a tiny eyeslot for him to see through, too small for anything but guided magic to burst through.
Almost specifically to shake things up as it seemed, however, a Dodge Charger came cruising down the highway towards Renard, Paul, and Siber. It was coming down the wrong side, obviously because it was conveniently clear of cars and debris, besides the tree. The Sage finished pronouncing his first phrase, and his shield began its self-sustaining life again, annihilating Paul's attacks, before looking down at his book to read something directly from it.

Fyrin groaned as his new car ceased responding to him again, braking near the Warlocks and opening the doors of the vehicle.

Samuel thought of something.
Samuel cast the shield and drew his sword. He swung at a lampshade, slicing through it. Looking at the cut, Samuel was satisfied with the test. Sheathing his sword, he walked out of the room, heading for the elevator. He took the elevator up to the top floor, some twenty floors up. Exiting the elevator, Samuel took a side hallway to a roof maintenance exit and walked onto the roof. Walking along the flat roof behind the low walls on the roof, Samuel looked down to see the Sage and Joe a ways off to the north. Following the roofs, Samuel stood atop the building the Sage had just exited. He knelt behind the roof's wall and searched for the locations of the signatures of the others, trying to figure out how to deploy his strategy in a tactically effective manner.
