Shyrae could understand Malik's words to a point but disagreed wholeheartedly. "The dark waters are no different except things actually swim in those. They burrow in sand, much like the sandworms we have. They feed on blood and pop up at the most inopportune times." This world was far less dangerous than her own as far as she was concerned. She'd been on the surface, been in the surface water and seen the fish that they claimed were worrisome. Have a giant fish with dripping fangs and some strange scales swimming after you when you were ten years old and you learned what to fear water-wise pretty quickly. Of course that had been one of those deciding moments in her life as well...her mother had become so much more protective after that.
Her eyes narrowed at Hunter and his sight blinked out completely. She was highly tempted to cause his tongue to swell as well but thought that might be overkill. When he learned the lesson he needed to, he'd get his sight back but not before. She wanted to see him stumble and have to grab his attention back. "He should take better care of his ship and his crew then." Her lesson would remain with him a long time. Leaving Malik alone, she walked over to Savvy and shook her head. "Makes you want to punch him in the face sometimes, doesn't it. Though thanks for sticking up for me."

She snickered at his commands. What was this? Now he thought that women on his deck was going to be something of a hassle that would cause trouble. More sea superstition...frankly she didn't enjoy being portrayed as such...she had as damn much right to be on the deck as any of these men. And about to hurt the nearest crew member who thought it was a good idea to try and move her, be it under convincing her or by force....before Shyrae made her ears twitch. "More like rip it off and sell it as a mask to someone else." Okay...vivid. But a nod. "Can't let him get away with such comments. I'd like to discontinue his personal thoughts of me, but it seems he has a trump card." Being her father at current...if Malik agreed on things...well she didn't stand much of a chance of winning a screaming match of logic and contradiction. Though for the moment she stayed put...not going anywhere.

and there they went. but Hunter didn't need eyes to know his ship. he needed them to sail her, and to read his charts and such, but not to get at least from the helm to his cabin. which pissed him off.
"Mister Richards...you have your orders. and get to it, or I'll have the bosun whip you!"
Well that got a look from his first mate as he went to his cabin and slammed the door. something had ticked him off.
"Alright men, you heard the captain! lower the colors, get to work! full sails and make sure we've got the wind! Helm, set your course for the salt beds, follow the Claw's lead. Captain Nereem has whatever it is that enticed our captain to head that way, we'll follow her for a bit."
Before heading down and pointing to Caden.
"If you would, guardian, help the men with the sails. I want them to be full at all times."
then to Malik, who looked at him the same way someone would look at an insect.
"master elf, would you be so kind as to escort your daughter and her friend below deck. we don't want to make ourselves anymore a target to the Serpent then we have to, adn the nomads in the area that do thier own piracy prefer to attempt to take women hostages. so we'd prefer they stay below deck at least until we get within sight of the salt beds, or out of the Serpents known patrol ranges."
Malik gave a glance at his daughter...you know, it might be more amusing to let this first mate try that. but he gave a nod. he knew that stance of hers. first person to try it was going to get hurt if it wasn't him. at least the first mate had the decency to show him some respect.
"Alright, I'll get them below. Make sure your crew stay away from her as best they can, or there may be a few unpleasant results."
"Noted."
Before the first mate went about his work, heaving in with the crew and making sure things were cleaned, organized, and working. and he was not afriad to use the bosun to get his orders across either.
Malik walked over to hsi daughter and her friend, moving between them and placing a hand on thier shoulders.
"Below deck with us. apparently it's not a superstition but a safety precaution. women on deck seem to attract attention from people they'd rather not deal with right now, so they want you ladies below deck until they are sure they don't have to worry. and if it takes too long..they can deal with me if you want back on deck, alright?"

Shyrae chuckled softly. That was Savvy, always about the violence. "He's just clueless when it comes to certain things. But I'll clue him in in no time, I'm sure." Giving her a grin before nodding to her father. "Just give me a moment." Slipping quietly into Hunter's cabin, she carefully began rearranging a few things. Just moving the chair a few inches back and setting a stack of books in the doorway, things that he normally would be able to see so as not to trip over them. Unlike Savvy, he didn't have magic or even the naturally enhanced senses since he hadn't been living blind for years.
She'd dulled a few of those other senses as well so as not to be heard if she happened to make any noise. She'd been taught by her father though, and there had been no better sneaker than Sevilin Inthara. A few of his items like his model of the Chimera, maps, and writing utensils were stuck into a runic pocket so he'd have to search through his room, hands out to find what he needed and then endure the frustration that came with not being able to. She was intending this lesson to hit him where it hurt.
Knocking on his desk lightly, she cleared her throat. "You might be angry with me now but eventually you'll pass your test and your sight will come back. In the meantime, enjoy a world without the benefit of sight. Listen to the movement of the ship and try to place where everything is. Smell the food you're about to eat and see if you can pick out what it is. Which reminds me...." She pulled a plate of cookies out of the runic pocket where she'd stuck them after making them so they were still hot and gooey and set them on the desk. "I brought you a peace offering." Thus slipping back out of his room, she headed down below deck like she'd been asked.

"A bash over the head with a dragon wouldn't clue him into anything." Ears twitching at her friend's leaving footsteps before turning her attention to her father. Savryn rolled her eyes. "Oh yes, spirit the women away below the dank decks so that they are safe from the perils of the world!" She had her mother's flare to be sarcastically dramatic too. Clearly not a happy young woman at the moment, turning a distasteful look from her father. "Since when are you so compliant?" Mumbling a moment about stupid men and such before letting her father have his way, at least for the moment. "Chylithair stay above for me..." Petting the falcon who took from her shoulder to the railing, going about preening himself and she begrudingly started off...though not before turning and yelling at the closed cabin door of the beloved captain. "This isn't over!" Okay...she was done for now...

Hunter was just sitting in his chair, back turned to the door and arms crossed.
"I have no need to pass your tests or for your peace offering. maybe after a few near death experiences you'll learn that somethings are not to be toyed with."
cookies. hmph. damn elvish women.
Malik shook his head lightly at his daughter.
"why is it the points you take after your mother on are the most troublesome? And I am only complaint because the man had a point. they're trying to get to wherever we're going as quickly as possible and thus are taking every precaution to not attract attention."
following his daughter and her friend downstairs.
"If you weren't so stubbornly disagreeable with the captain and thus everything he thinks to do, you might clue into things like that. I mean the human treats this ship like a woman, yet he doesn't want people to know she's sailing. clue one. they want you out of sight only for the time being. clue two. obviously thier trying to avoid someone or something. and I think it's best to let the experienced people have the leeway in this situation. none of us are sailors, and much less familiar with this plane enough to make any kind of judgement calls."
A small smirk.
"Not to mention at least the first mate showed proper respect."
Desdemona was sick of looking around, and sick of searching, and sick to death of being alone. damn that little girl and her clear thinking. so Desdemona had no choice. if she wanted any kind of people around her, and a shot at free food, she was going to have to use the Gale Claw.
despite that damned temptress of a captain.
So she spread her wings..taking a note again of the Serpent. nope, not anywhere near the salt beds..but she was in range to notice passing ships in that area. probably looking out for nomads and their sloops. and off with her to the claw, landing on the crow's nest.
of course, because she did have her own sense of vanity and for a little dig at the captain of this vessel, she landing just so the light would hit her bronzed skin and fiery hair and make her all the more attractive and alluring..not to mention at this height her halter top and loincloth didn't do too much to cover what was under it. yes she was a damn fine looking woman and quite proud of it. lets see that captain steal her thunder again.

Yet Malik was agreeing with them. She could already see the wheels turning in Savvy's mind. She chose not to say anything though Malik's lack of faith in their abilities to fight like the men irked her as much as it probably did his daughter. Nobody ever believed they could do anything and their parents wondered why they left home... She just shook her head and sighed, crossing her arms idly. What was she supposed to do now...?
Thobias was standing on deck, his dark hair blowing in the wind before he plopped his hat back on his head and turned. Raising an eyebrow at the scantily clad female now standing on Gem's ship, he shook his head. "Ah, Desdemona. Looking for shelter, I assum? Hunter kicked you off the Chimera again, I suppose." Thobias knew who she was, he'd been around when she'd still been Hunter's lover.

Gem blinked at the shadow that passed over her deck and she tipped her hat to keep the sun from her eyes as she looked up, snapping her fingers to bring the helmsman back to position as she watched the dragoness for a moment...and her crew's reaction to her. Men, what was she going to do with them. But for right now she merely sideglanced her attention that way, seemed Thobias was being casually chatty.
"Because she knew that to get to anyone you have to go about it in a certain way?" Shrugging lightly at that as she walked down the stairs...and had to catch herself on a nearby support beam as she tripped on a something or other that had moved into a new position from the ship's departure. Damn things that moved...everything should be damn nailed down. "He dug his own grave with me, father." Shaking her head lightly...didn't much like more or less receiving a lecture on this, and the captain be winning such a thing as well. Yes one could say she did harbor quite a bit of anger constantly...or at least that was the general concensus of strangers. "I don't need him treating me like I'm nothing but useless and helpless."
And thumped over the head with her own staff. Or what was going to be her own staff once he gave it to her. Yes, there stood Sevilin Inthara...wasn't hard to find one of his kids and blip in to thier current location. "You forget that I don't need someone to tell me where you are." Before offering a smill and the staff. "I believe this is supposed to be yours."

Caden was actually a little surprised that Hunter came to him for help, so since he was actually asked to do it without being yelled at or in some other form he decided to go ahead and do what was asked. It didn't take him long enough to get them in the form Hunter asked for, actually the crew was helpful when he worked with them. But since he may still be needed he kept himself on deck, leaning against the railing as he watched the sand, he had a feeling inside that with the way things kept on going it seemed that they were going to be out here for quite awhile.

"I know that. but I'd rather he died without your getting shot in the back in the process. as for his treatment of you, that does need a bit of an adjustment I'm sure you can give him. but for now, play nice."
before a glance at Sevilin.
"Welcome to the land of sand and sun and piracy."
Desdemona landed lightly on the deck, flipping her hair behind her head some and strutting a bit over to Thobias, casually tracing a finger along his chest.
"He didn't throw me off the first time, and he didn't throw me off this time. the little girl with the star eyes did. She won't let me back on the Chimera until I bring her some kind of glassy shard."
grumbling lightly, though flicking a glance to that damned siren.

"He obviously doesn't like women...not in any sense that's worth anything. Probably has something to do with that dragon he was keeping locked up." Grumbling about that because that still pissed her off. She'd actually rather liked Captain Deacon until she'd found that out. "Ouch!"
Shyrae jumped about a mile when someone hit her and that voice rang out. Emotions swamped her and she was tempted to turn and run into his arms but afraid at the same time of how he was feeling. Obviously he knew where she was and that she was still alive though she could probably thank one of Savvy's letters for that or Malik himself. Turning very slowly, she eyed that staff and then noticed his smile. Was it genuine or was he playing with her? "I didn't forget..." Shifting her weight for a moment she nodded to it, "Are you sure?" She'd run away...probably had her mother all up in arms which gave added stress to her father...not usually the type of behavior that earned her a present.
Thobias laughed softly catching her hand easily enough and bringing it to his lips. "We all know that isn't true, don't we Desdemona? Your former lover is none too pleased with you either. I saw his face when you showed back up." A glance over to the other ship. "Where have you been hiding all this time, my tempting dragoness? Your presence has been sorely missed on the sandseas."

Play nice? Bah, not a thing she wanted to do, but she merely leaned against the beam she had been holding herself up with, before ears twitched at more voices. "And here everyone was worried about the mothers showing up." Shaking her head lightly and then just quieting with that grudgeful look on her face. She hated feeling like this...
He raised an eyebrow at Malik. "Hm, three of my least favorite things. How positively annoying." Before letting his eyes drop back down to his daughter, whom was wearing a half guilty half suspicious look. He honestly didn't take her disappearing as running away really...if you ran away you didn't leave a note. She was merely striking out of her own now that she was old enough to. Why begrudge her of that...though it took six hours to explain that to her mother. "Either it's yours or it's fancy firewood."
Gem crossed her arms behind her back, watching the way she moved the way she talked and how the dragoness went about every other thing. And how the men on her crew generally seemed interested in her. It was positively annoying to watch such a display from them. Men were men...seemed even her first mate wasn't one to spare the charm. Not to mention, she noted that slanted glance she was being given by the dragoness. Red curls idly danced about her face in the breeze made by the ship's passing and she clenched a fist. "Don't the lot of you be dogs! Pull your lolling tounges back into your yap traps and get back to work!" Come on her ship without permission and then draw her crew's attention from where it needed to be, the nerve...

"I think you'd like the captain. very heavy handed, kind of cocky for a human. Or at the least watching him adn my daughter go at it. it's fun to watch."
a slight chuckle at his daughter.
"Come now, you know if your mothers had shown up, you wouldn't be here right now. you'd be at home, and Zahara would lock her daughter up for at least a week."
Hunter was still in his cabin, still sitting in his chair. nope, wasn't going to be moving form this spot until his sight was back. though he did reached over and eat a cookie.
Desdemona gave a slight grin at his lips on her hand, and let her tail slip down along his leg a bit.
"Well...I've been subject of Captain Deacon, kept in a gilded cage you could say. away from prying eyes that might be tempted to wrest me away from him again."
purring a bit and letting her fingers run along Thobias' cheek. hey look at that, she got the captain to get a bit snappy. how nice.

She reached out and took the staff, lightly flipping it in her hand to test it's weight then gave him a grin. "Thank you, Daddy." She gave him a smile and gazed at it. "It's beautiful." She'd been waiting for her own staff for a long time and it finally came to her. "I appreciate you bringing it to me though I'm kind of surprised Mama let you come." Before a suspicious look. "You didn't tell her, did you?"
Thobias chuckled at Gem's reaction and merely turned his attention back to Desdemona. "You're too beautifully wild to keep in one place for very long and fie on him who should steal your freedom." So Hunter had caged her? That would explain her random disappearance for sure. "If you need to cage something to keep it, you never had it in the first place." Something Hunter obviously needed to learn. He gave her a dashing smile and laced his arm through hers turning back tot he sandsea. "Although, finding you in that cage may have persuaded me to try."

"Glad to know my position amuses you father." He probably wouldn't be so amused if she'd be sharing a bed or such with said captian. But a look over to his general direction once more as he tried to pick through mood. Obviously a tactic he had learned long ago from her mother, whom did it to her father often enough. "If mama was here...she'd still be on deck, and no doubt making a point that she was just as good there as anyone else and had no need to be tucked away down here."
"He's human, don't like him. No matter what admirable qualities he may have about him. They're just far too rash a creature. And I'm not surprised yours is torturing it already." Shaking his head lightly. They all knew that girl could be as mean as a viper, but his attention turned back to his own daughter with a half amused expression. "I told her...just not the entire truth of where I was going. If she finds out...well that's a rant Malik gets to listen to." Said with a grin of course. "What just a thank you? No hug or anything? Afraid I'm going to snatch you and whisk you back home?" Yup, amused.
Gem rolled her eyes and turned her back to the dragoness. No need to watch things that irritated her...didn't that woman understand that this was a ship and needed to be run in a precise manner? There was no room for play when courses were being set and the like, supplies still being stocked and lists still being made. Not to mention the constant adjust of course through sands that changed every second from wind and the like. Distractions. Though she was still upset that she'd been boarded without permission...one of her pet peeves. Where was her pistol?
