Well, I know that she generally has good intentions, but she drives me crazy. I generally get along with my in-laws, but we're not very close. I've considered just not having anybody with me. Is that crazy?

That's not crazy at all. The nurses will help you through your labor, especially if you're alone during.
If you have a friend that you're comfortable with, especially one who has had a baby before, that's also an option. Or sibling, cousin...

I'm still relatively new to this area, so I don't have friends around. I don't think we can afford a doula. I've heard about a military program for free doulas, but that's only if DH is deployed, right?

No idea, you'd have to ask. His being stationed at a place you can not be together would count for something, I'd think.

According to Operation Special Delivery, you should be eligible for some kind of assistance since your husband is stationed somewhere you can't be. It won't hurt to ask and I think they have a fast response time too.

Well, the Red Cross said that they can't request his presence here for a normal birth. I found a contact email on the website of the base DH is at, and sent them an email explaining our situation. The commanding general wrote back and congratulated me, and said that he'd have Leif's commander contact me about arranging 'a short visit for the birth of the child'. I'm trying desperately not to get my hopes up but maybe he'll get to be here after all!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
I was with my sister-in-law when my nephew was born because my brother was in Kuwait at the time. It was really tough on both of them. They're expecting their second in the October and he's (currently) training in New Jersey (they live in the midwest) to deploy to Iraq. There is a remote possibility that his two week rotation home will coincide with the baby's birth, especially since my sister-in-law is having a c-section.
Mind if I ask what branch your husband is in?

I'd also recommend calling some doulas in your area. Some might need the experience (some all ready do the classes, just need to attend a certain number of births).
Will he be in basic or AIT when you deliver? With my oldest, I drove out by myself and stayed in a one bedroom apt so I could be there for his AIT. Come to think of it, it was probably REALLY dumb of me overall and I think technically I wasn't supposed to do it, but we never got seperation pay anyways.
I want to say most commands try to be understanding about it all. I know of at least two people that my dh deployed with, they arranged their R&R so they could come back for the birth of their child (I know some vehemently are against it, but they induced their labors so the dh could be there).

I'm due right in the middle of his basic training, so the only hopes of seeing him is if they're understanding about it.

Checking in on all our pregnant ladies. heart
For as fast as August is going, this pregnancy is dragging for me and can not go fast enough. I'm starting to have serious nesting urges and I'm just hitting my 34th week. I have the rest of this month to make it before I'm even considered term. I'm also starting to have issues with heartburn and my hips popping when I roll over while I'm sleeping. gonk I really hope I do not get bad SPD symptoms again this pregnancy.

Amazingly, I'm still pregnant, but my due date is coming up fast! My first pregnancy only made it to 35w6d, so I didn't get to experience all the fun stuff that happens in the last month... like edema O.o;; and ligaments stretching beyond normal operating capacity. I am happy to report that as of Thursday, I am 2cm dilated, 25% effaced and the baby's head is low... really really REALLY low... I may, however, have a urinary track infection (hopefully not... I'll get the results tomorrow) Friday, the day after I hit 37 weeks, I announced to my husband that I was officially off bed rest (per me) and was now determined to end this pregnancy (safely). I made him take me to the mall so I could walk (^-^) He offered to help speed up the onset of labor with his favorite "induction wives' tale", but that suggestion was quickly shot down with a look that could kill. No way am I having sex again in this pregnancy... not worth the two weeks of healing required O.o;; My poor hips can't take that! gonk But hey, full moon's the 16th! Ya never know!!

Well, it looks like Leif will get to come home for a couple of days. Now I just have to go into labor. xp I'm already dilated to a 4, but I was a 3 for weeks with Lucas and I still had to be induced. I'm so sick of being pregnant!

I'm with you there! I can't wait to get this kid out!!! O.o;; I want my body back... I'm sick of being a science experiment.
I'm happy to hear your hubby is coming home. Since you're already full-term, you could always talk to your doctor about being induced. I know if I make it to 39 weeks, I'll be begging to be induced!! (My dr.s only induce after 39 weeks)
Besides, I've got grandparents coming for a visit in three weeks and I know they wanna see another grand-baby! ^-^ My mom just keeps telling my belly not to 'pop' unless it's a Friday (this week or next, preferably in the morning) cuz that could get her a three day weekend from work! blaugh She's my labor coach.
