Once he was off the small ferry Dante stretched his arms over his head pulling his body tight and feeling the wonderful feeling of his spine popping, oh that was one of the best feelings. Glancing over at his travel companion he watched as the other man headed over to the small grassy area nearby and watched the other passengers get off the boat and head off in their own separate ways, some into the forest and some into nearby Petalburg. Sighing Dante ran a hand through his now longer, and more annoying and he hated it so much, hair before heading over to the other. “Well, this seems as good a place as any for a battle.” Dante commented as he stood by the others side rolling his shoulder a bit. The rough ride on the ship before and then right onto the cramped ferry had really just tensed him up.
“It is, let’s hope no wild pokemon don’t decide to join the battle though.” The other said with a small grin as he looked at the tall grass that would be their battlefield.
Thinking on the Deino’s anger management problems and most other pokemon’s unwillingness to get too close to her Dante thought that wouldn’t be too much of a problem. “All right, a one on one battle then.” The auburn haired boy turned around and headed off a little ways to make room for the battlefield. Fishing through his bag, cursing the egg for being so big and so not helpful to him finding anything, he eventually pulled out the pokeball he was looking for. “Here we go, come on out Kali.” Dante called out as he released the dark dragon onto the battlefield. He watched as she sniffed the air before shaking her head and growling slightly as her opponent was released onto the battlefield. “Well, this is going to be an interesting fight.” Dante commented as he got a look at the young looking Dratini.
The other just chuckled and looked equally amused. “I wasn’t expecting you to have a dragon type. Good luck raising one of those by the way.”
“You know what these are?”
“I do and I wish you the best of luck in staying alive while you train the damn thing. Now what do you say to getting this battle underway?”
“Thanks for the advice. As to what I say about getting the battle underway? Well, Kali how about you start this off with your Earth Power.” That was the move he had read off of Leo’s pokedex when he had scanned it in anyway. Thinking on that Dante figured it was about time to pick up a pokedex for himself. Especially if he did take the trip he had in mind. Kali meanwhile was all too ready attack her new foe. This one seemed almost like it had some sort of challenge in it, like it was kin or something. Stomping her foot on the ground the brutal pokemon sent a rolling wave of earth towards the other dragon pokemon.
“Let’s blast through that, use your own special move Dratini.” The young dragon type nodded its head before suddenly launching itself forward water seemingly propelling it to abnormal speeds off of the ground. The dragon’s snake like body now fired like a water propelled rocket towards Kali. Dante watched, while his own blind pokemon just growled slightly, as the dragon types snake like body slithered right over the wave of earth Kali had sent over. The disappointment turned more into amusement though as with the speed of the Aqua Jet powering it the Dratini was launched into the air and over Kali landing on the ground with a loud smack. Both of the pokemon were unharmed but it did seem like this would be an interesting battle.

Ben grinned. It seemed like Jasper wasn't wasting any time at all. "Dodge it, Pidgey!" he ordered, his bird flapping his wings fast enough to send him up high into the air just before the poison type hit, hovering there for a moment while it awaited the next order. "Give it a Tackle of your own!" Ben called out, Pidgey chirping before going into a nose dive toward the purple Pokemon. Ben was thinking about how long he'd already been holed up in Violet City, trying to get stronger before he was even ready to get his very first gym badge. 'About a week, or more' Ben reasoned, his eyes focused on the match. 'Too long. This is our last battle, our final test before we take on the Gym,' he told himself, his fists clenching. They had to be ready.

The battle seemed to be put on temporary pause as Amy, Winston, and Winston's irritated Flaaffy watched the spinning, glowing figure that used to be Lee the Tyrogue. A point became very defined on the center of his head, and as it formed, he pushed off, removing his hands and whirling around like, well, a top. Amy got out her Pokedex and aimed it at the still-spinning figure. But finally, Lee stopped, revealing his new form: he was still around the same size, though he looked much stronger and much healthier in this form, with brown and blue skin instead of the almost bruise-like purple that had been Tyrogue's. Amy's heart began to race when she recognized the Pokemon before her, remembering it from (of course) a contest she had seen on TV a long time ago.
"Hitmontop, the Handstand Pokemon. It fights while spinning like a top. The centrifugal force boosts its destructive power by ten," her Pokedex droned when prompted. After that, Amy could see that most of Lee's move pool had completely changed, with only Mach Punch remaining from before. The bespectacled girl looked toward Winston and his Pokemon, neither of which seemed all too pleased with this new development. At least the trainer managed to offer Amy a stiff, wary, "Congratulations." She nodded in acknowledgement, almost buzzing with excitement. This was so huge for her!
"All right, Lee, let's see what you're capable of! Use um, Rolling Kick!" The Hitmontop seemed downright ecstatic to try out the move, pushing off the ground and skipping across the floor in a very new, very strange manner. The Fighting-type spun as he tore through the distance, and all of that momentum released itself into one startling kick that nailed the sheep in her side. She cried out in pain and electricity sparked all around her, catching onto Lee. The Hitmontop kicked himself back in surprise, but already found his movements to be slowing down. Great, Amy thought, two paralyzed Pokemon in a row. How's a thing like that possible?

Being paralyzed certainly made spinning much more difficult for Lee, whose urge to spin and stand on his head increased tenfold since he had evolved. The Fighting-type righted himself, tensing for the next attack, whatever it may be. Winston, much to his credit, had a very good poker face, and glanced at Amy before looking back at the two tense Pokemon. "Flaaffy," he called, his tone calm enough to make Amy worry all the more, "use your Thundershock attack." Getting used to that new form must be difficult, especially for a Pokemon that seemed to want to be in constant motion and, for the moment, could not. That would leave the Hitmontop very susceptible to attacks.
Flaaffy, her poor head still aching, charged a burst of electricity and released it upon Lee, who cried out in pain. Amy winced, watching her Pokemon struggle to stay on the tip of his head and mostly fail. She allowed herself another glance at her Pokedex, scanning the list of moves. "Lee, use Revenge!" That seemed promising. And indeed it was; Lee's eyes widened and as soon as the shocking sensation was over, he was moving. Paralyzation may have slowed him down, but it wasn't going to stop him from attacking this round. Instead, the Handstand Pokemon retaliated with full force, speeding towards the pink sheep and sending her flying with a painful-looking uppercut kick. Amy looked back at the move description, wondering how it had gotten so powerful. An attack move that inflicts double the damage if the user has been hurt by the opponent in the same turn. And it wasn't like the move was that weak to begin with. Amy glanced up just in time to see Wool Pokemon land with a dull thud, out for the count.
"Well, I'm afraid that's all the Pokemon I have," Winston said, recalling his Pokemon. "That was a good battle, lass." He stepped away politely, allowing Amy to search in the nearby trashcans for the switches. The bespectacled girl cheered, ignoring the trashcans in favor of running up to her slightly-dizzy, still-paralyzed Hitmontop.
"Oh, Lee," she murmured, kneeling down and pulling the woozy Fighting-type into a tight hug. "You were so great! And you evolved!" Lee, not used to this sort of affection, patted his trainer on the back, but he smiled nonetheless. "What do you say we find those switches and get you healed up before we challenge Surge, huh?" Now that got a definite reaction: the Hitmontop was ready for another battle, healed or not.

Something about the tone of Sheena's voice sounded a bit ominous to Keegan, and he sighed, quickly finishing off his cigarette before getting to his feet. He gave Helios a bit of a disapproving stare, but it was diffused as the cheeky Ninetales seemed to grin at him. The redhead grinned back at the fox, and then looked to the pink-haired girl, still somewhat afraid to even ask. "Okay, then. What do you want?" he asked finally, his voice sounding a little strained.
Sheena didn't miss the worried edge to Keegan's voice, and she giggled as she batted her eyelashes at him. "Oh, it's nothing bad," she said, though Keegan's expression quickly became doubtful. "I'm serious!" the girl insisted, now moving toward the surly boy, her own expression looking more composed to match her statement. She reached into her bag for something and held her hand out, beckoning for Keegan to do the same.
After some urging, the redhead sighed, rolled his eyes and hesitantly stuck his own hand out, palm up. Sheena giggled again and placed something in it, though without even looking at it, Keegan knew it was a PokeBall. "Sheena, what is this?" he asked, holding the sphere up to examine it.
"It's a PokeBall! Duh!"
Keegan rolled his eyes again. "Yes, I can see that," he replied disparagingly, closing his hand on the red and white sphere. "I guess a better question is, what Pokemon is this, and why are you giving it to me?" He was fairly certain he already knew the answer to the first half of his question, but he'd prefer to hear it from Sheena herself.
For the first time since they'd left the Petalburg Woods, Sheena adopted an almost-embarrassed look, and she stared down at the ground. "Y-you've probably already guessed it, but i-it's Boris. He's just so... so big and powerful and I'm not sure I'm a good enough trainer to look after him anymore." Keegan had opened his mouth to interject, but the pink-haired girl wouldn't give him a chance to. "Now you, Keegan, you're a really good trainer. Like, really good and I know you're pretty good with Fire-types. If anyone can help Boris adjust to his new form, it's you."
A strange feeling overcame Keegan as he looked down at the Camerupt's PokeBall, and the redhead couldn't quite figure out just what it was. His first instinct had been to stop the pink-haired girl right there and tell her just how wrong she was; sure, she wasn't the most powerful or dangerous trainer he'd encountered during his travels but she definitely knew what she was doing. Secondly, his attempts to subdue the rampaging Boris had failed pretty fantastically, and he had half a mind to tell her that about the only person he thought to be qualified for the taming of the Camerupt was Flannery. A quiet voice in the back of his mind silenced all of his negative thoughts, and finally, all he could really do was smile. He sighed and closed his eyes, nodding slowly. He already knew that he wouldn't be able to change Sheena's mind. "...All right. If you insist." ===== "Right, Pokemon Center it is," Miharu agreed, following Karrigan's lead in looking for some sort of sign or other indicator. She hadn't missed the presence of people walking along with their various Pokemon, though the majority of them, she didn't recognize, but she did her best to pretend she didn't notice them. Not having her own Pokemon was both unnerving and devastating, and though it was killing her inside she was determined not to let it show. She already felt like she was slowing Damien and Karrigan down and keeping them from doing what they'd come to Unova to do in the first place.
Finally, Miharu spotted a familiar sign with a large, capital P with an arrow pointing down a nearby street, and Miharu motioned to the others so they'd see it too. It seemed as though they were in a fairly central area of the city and hadn't started off all that far away from the Pokemon Center to begin with. "So, what are you guys planning to do?" she asked once they reached the center. She hated to admit it, but she'd have to let Karrigan and Damien go off on their own soon enough. After all, she didn't have any Pokemon of her own, and the thought of capturing some new ones hadn't even occurred to her. ===== Damien had also been pondering a solution to Miharu's Pokemon-less situation, and his egg wriggled and struggled relentlessly with every step he took closer to the Pokemon Center. He was no expert, but he'd been carrying the thing around for a while now and he was certain it was going to hatch sometime today. He reached up and adjusted his glasses as Miharu asked her question, finding it to be a bit of a relief to wander into a building he was familiar with.
...Or not. Damien's grey eyes widened slightly as they fully entered the Castelia City Pokemon Center. Never before had he been in a Center so... impressive. It was significantly larger than any of the other Centers he'd been in; it was at least two storeys with a spacious lobby and two sets of stairs framing the main desk. A nurse with pink hair was behind it, accompanied by a pink Pokemon that was most certainly not a Chansey. "I, uh, I don't know," he murmured quietly, finally finding his voice again. "To be honest, I'm not even sure why I came to the Unova region." If anything, he should have gone back to Hoenn, as he'd eventually managed to win his first badge thanks to efforts from Gastly and Shroomish. "What about you, Red?" he asked, nodding over at Karrigan.

"Ooh!" One particular display caught Mike's eye: a Hoenn native fossil Pokemon, Armaldo. "Armaldo's tough armor makes all attacks bounce off." he read. "This Pokémon's two enormous claws can be freely extended or contracted. They have the power to punch right through a steel slab." The note about the claws interested him. Mike leaned in, narrowing his eyes in thought.
What do you see? I don't see it! I don't see it!
"Look at the posture. The proportions. Does it remind you of something?" He scratched his head. "It's right on the tip of the tongue. Something about the extendable claws..."
Oh, you mean like how Portabello's stretch out?
"That's it!" Mike cried out, snapping his finger. "This looks like it could be a distant relative of Breloom!" Intrigued, more phantoms rose from the floor to inspect the skeleton. There were murmurers of both opinions, more so in agreement. "A bug Pokemon that isn't entirely flammable. I respect that." Mike nodded in approval, suddenly very much wanting to add one of these to his team.
Think Mr. Ranmo has one of these lying around?
"Not a bad suggestion, actually. Maybe I could ask Kilik next time I see him." Mike recalled his little trip with Mr. Ranmo to the Whirl Islands where they dug up Camerae's shell. They lucked out. It only took them about an hour to find the fossil. Granted, they had help from Portabelo Mr. Ranmo's Kabutops, but still.
Perhaps your next excursion will yield similar results?
"One can only hope!" Mike said, smiling at the prospect of going on another dig.
Dig. Dig. Dig. Dig.

Bugsy smirked as he saw Scyther knock the pesky snake to the ground. Even though this was the youngest of the species that he had raised, he was proving to be quite formidable in his own right. The Gym Leader turned to face the woods behind him, wondering how his older Pokemon were doing. He'd check after this fight was over.
Now, Bugsy liked winning, let's be clear about that. And he always resented the fact that he was one of the first gyms in the Johto rotation because the amount of times he won compared to how many times he was defeated was laughable. He always assumed it was because he was the youngest one out of them. That being said, it always gave him a sense of pride as the de facto Pokemon teacher he was when he saw a new trainer work out a problem like Jett just did. "Smart move!" Bugsy said. "But we've got more than that in our arsenal. "Vacuum Wave it quick!"
Scyther whipped around slashing the air, his bladed arms wrapped in a current of energy. As he spun, his eyes locked with Naja for the briefest of seconds, and that was all the time the Ekans needed to afflict him with her influence. The Mantis's arm locked up, sending the Wave harmlessly into the trees behind them.

As the Dark-type stumbled back from Shocker's strike, a painful tingling had started to creep through his body and he quickly came to realize that he'd been paralyzed due to the Raichu's Static ability. He tried to regain a proper battle stance but his muscles were no longer cooperating with him and he knew he was easy prey for the mouse Pokemon. While not paralyzed herself, Shocker was starting to feel a little spent, and even though she knew she could easily knock the weakened Absol into submission, she decided against it, instead approaching her teammate and placing a paw on his twitching shoulder. The two Pokemon locked eyes for a few seconds, and finally Casimir stood down. It seemed the Absol was also well aware of the situation and was not exactly eager to get himself pummeled. He had gained a bit of respect for the Raichu as well; she held her own despite the fact she was still recovering from her ordeal. The two then decided it best to just relax and watch the two littler Pokemon duke it out.
Growl wasn't something Kasiya had seen used in battle in a long time, but she hadn't expected it to nullify at least part of the Growth's effect, though by this point, she was honestly a little confused. "Contrary?" she repeated, taking out her own PokeDex to confirm. "Contrary. Well, if that isn't one of the most fitting names for an ability ever." Having a rather impressive (at least she thought so) collection of starter Pokemon herself, Kasiya couldn't help but wonder if any of hers had a special-special ability. It didn't seem like it, as she knew she'd seen Rosemary, Nova and Levi's Overgrow, Blaze and Torrent abilities used before. Alphonse, however, had yet to "activate" his ability, but she did have a sneaking suspicion that it was also Torrent.
While his trainer was busy nosing through her PokeDex, Alphonse hadn't let up on the scathing looks he shot Ivy's way. It seemed the Snivy was about to kick it up a notch, however, as she'd suddenly given him the evilest Glare he'd ever seen, and he froze up on the spot as his blood had seemingly run cold. He very much didn't want to look as though the little Grass Snake had just scared the piss out of him but it was very hard to do when one was shaking like he was. Moving around had suddenly become quite difficult, but he managed to open his little beak, finding just enough motivation to summon the energy for an Ice Beam. He had yet to perfect the technique, but he figured Ivy would be great for target practice and with some effort, the erratic, yet surprisingly not-weak ray of ice was launched generally in Ivy's direction.
=-=-=-=-= By the time he'd eaten the last bite of his pancakes, Jaeshan was feeling contentedly full and he quickly piled his dishes onto his tray, eyeing the unfinished cup of coffee disdainfully. "Be right back," he mumbled to the dark-haired girl, having to move around a small group of people so he could turn in the tray. His brow furrowed as he again thought of finding some way to go about telling Jade the truth, as he knew it would come out sooner or later and he'd much rather run the risk of telling her himself rather than it blindsiding her. He frowned as she made her way back over to him, knowing very well that it probably didn't matter how she found out - it'd probably freak her out all the same.
"Hear what?" he asked somewhat absentmindedly, having been too caught up in his own thoughts to notice what was going on around him, but he soon saw the group of disgruntled trainers, and it didn't take much for him to piece it all together, especially with Jade's explanation. "Crushing bikes?" he said, brow furrowing. "Why would they do that?" he asked, thought it was mostly rhetorical. He blinked in surprised at her grin, realizing very quickly that she meant for them to go and deal with the thugs. "Wait, us? Why do we have to get involved? We don't even have bikes," he objected, but there was something about the look in Jade's eyes that made him rethink his statement. After all, he didn't have to get involved when he chased off the big oaf that had been bullying Jade that day in Jubilife, but he had, and look where they were now. "Okay, fine, lead the way," he relented, giving a shrug. "Beating bullies senseless is the breakfast of champions, no?"
=-=-=-=-= Karrigan was almost more concerned with identifying the Pokemon they passed by on the street than finding than actually finding their destination, so it was actually a good thing that Miharu had taken it upon herself to navigate the busy city. For the most part the three of them walked in silence, occasionally pointing out something of interest but it actually didn't take very long for them to reach the Pokemon Center. Since they'd had their Pokemon seen to while they were still on the ship, they didn't need to visit the nurse, but that was probably a good thing seeing just how impressively large this center was compared to the others.
"They actually have a store in here," the redhead said, pointing to a counter off to the right. There were two different clerks running it, along with an assortment of Potion vials and Pokeballs lining the shelves behind them. She too wasn't sure what her plans were now that she was in a new region, but after seeing so many interesting and diverse Pokemon, the concept of simply exploring and adventuring around the Unova Region wasn't a bad one. "I bet there are gyms here," she said, looking around for a map. "I was thinking of starting a badge challenge of my own." She'd been inspired by some of the tougher trainers she'd met, namely Kasiya and Riza. Her debacle of a battle against Erika was very nearly forgotten by now and she was eager to make a new start for herself. I wonder what Amy's up to right now, she thought, curious as to whether or not her previous traveling companion had managed to defeat Lt. Surge yet.
Her gaze went back to Miharu, and she gave a small smile. The green-haired girl looked uncomfortable, and Karrigan didn't want her to feel like she wasn't included in any of their possible plans. "But first, we should find a way out of this city, and maybe think about finding you a new Pokemon partner, Miharu. Damien and I would be happy to help you out."

Riza had already known that explaining to Crenu's Pokemon what had happened to their trainer wouldn't be easy. It hadn't gone well at all as now she was heading back into the pokecenter, still being flanked by Akima and Yula. The raven haired girl now sported an already darkening bruise on her right shoulder and a cut on her cheek, both injuries were minor but it was the intent behind them that hurt. She'd only just finished telling the tale to Shiro's Pokemon when Newgate the Pupitar and Pet Shop the Fearow had attacked her, neither happy to hear that they were in the care of who they thought was an inferior replacement for their trainer. Pet Shop had dove at her with an Aerial Ace and she'd only just missed the full impact of the strike thanks to the combined efforts of Yula and Carmen's psychic abilities, and Newgate had shown his displeasure by lobbing a volley of rocks at her. This attack had been broken up by Akima, Terrato, Korra and even Bubbles as the Pupitar was incredibly strong, but Riza hadn't come away from it unscathed.
She said nothing as she reentered the pokecenter, walking right over to the computer area and not wasting any time in depositing the Pupitar and Fearow. She had her own angry bird to contend with and she didn't need a second one that actually truly hated her guts constantly trying to peck her eyes out. After a bit of thought she deposited the Muk as well, though she was reluctant to do so with Korra, Carmen and Terrato. She knew those three (and Bubbles) wouldn't give her any trouble, but the thought of putting them into her party was unsettling. Besides that, her training methods were completely different from Shiro's and she didn't want to undo any of the work he'd already done with them. She'd probably pull the nicer of his Pokemon out of storage to say hi now and then, as she truly did like Terrato and Korra, and it was nice knowing that at least a few of them genuinely liked her as well. * * * * * "Come on Nell, you gotta wake up!" Katie called out to her sleeping Buneary, knowing perfectly well that she was helpless so long as she stayed asleep. Miles was busy dealing with the Miltank at least, but Katie was pretty sure that Autumn had a plan for dealing with the sleeping rabbit. "Miles, that Double Hit was great! Use it again on the Miltank!" she called. The Floatzel gave a cry and jumped at the normal-type again, dealing another pair of strong strikes with his two tails. The Miltank cried out in pain and staggered back, starting to look a little bit tired.
"Effa, go ahead and use your Wake-up Slap on that Buneary! Ilta, it's time to replenish your health! Milk Drink!" Autumn called, having already had a plan at the ready. The Miltank took a step back and began to glow, her body starting to heal itself. The Clefairy meanwhile rushed forward, having an easy target in the sleeping Buneary and she reared back and slapped poor Nell right across the face, dealing big damage but also waking her up in the process.

Jasper wasn't surprised to see Ben issue a command for his Pidgey to dodge, and it was hard not to notice the disappointed look on Koffing's face as she failed to slam herself into the little bird. It had carried itself upward in preparation to carry out the Tackle command it had been given, and Jasper smirked a little. Perfect; Koffing was (oddly) solid enough to sponge up a few hits. "Koffing, brace yourself and counter with Poison Gas!" he called. Koffing did just that, her body expanding as she took in a large amount of air. Pidgey's Tackle hit home, and for once Koffing did not burst into tears; immediately after the impact she expelled a tremendous amount of putrid, highly-toxic gas right into her foe's face and she laughed tauntingly as she did so. Jasper continued to smile to himself, knowing well that a poisoned opponent would be much easier to deal with. * * * * * * * * * * Having educated herself enough for the time being, Hayley closed her Pokedex and put it away, looking up to see that Ivy had used Glare while her trainer was distracted. The brunette giggled; she likely would have called for it next anyway! She looked on as Alphonse managed to gather his energy and fire... something at her Snivy. Hayley wasn't sure, but it might have been an Ice Beam? She'd never seen anything quite like it before. "Ivy, dodge it!" she called, though it wasn't necessary; Ivy was already in the process of trying to evade the very erratic beam. She took a glancing hit from it, sending a painful jolt of cold through her body. She growled and spun around to face the Piplup, and had she been able to successfully Glare at the water type a second time, she would have. "Um, Ivy, use your Wrap!" Hayley called, a bit uncertainly. She did not want the Piplup using that icy move a second time. Ivy's vines snaked out toward Alphonse, eager to ensnare him.

Keegan closed his fingers around the tiny red and white sphere, almost certain he could feel the warmth of the Fire-type radiating through it and into his skin. After handing over the Camerupt's PokeBall, Sheena had excused herself and more or less skipped off, leaving Keegan alone with an unexpected new Pokemon and his thoughts. Boris was powerful, there was no doubt about that, but he couldn't help but think about how horribly he'd failed at trying to calm the rampaging Pokemon, and he had a busted lip to prove it. He frowned and uncurled his fingers, looking down at the sphere. Could he really do this? Sheena had gone back inside the Pokemon Center, and finally he followed suit. He now had the problem of figuring out what he was going to do with his newest Pokemon, as he couldn't carry seven with him. His first thought was to send the Camerupt home; maybe see if he couldn't get Flannery to look after him a bit, but he quickly dismissed the thought - Sheena had entrusted him with Boris, not Flannery, and besides, it wouldn't look that good if he was already sending the Camerupt away.
"That settles it, then," he murmured, heading over to the computer bay yet again, and he chuckled a bit as he thought of just how often he'd been swapping around his Pokemon lately. He'd always closely monitored his party's progress as he tried to keep as many of his Pokemon at the same level of experience as he could, which meant that it was time to send Althena back. Would it be too risky to bring Boris along for the gym challenge? He frowned, tapping his fingertips against the desktop. He'd have Helios and Artemis for backup, and Moeder and Eithne weren't exactly unreliable either (at least he hoped so, anyway). Finally, he decided to take the proverbial 'leap of faith' and he set Althena's PokeBall on the tray, muttering quietly to himself as he flipped the switch to initiate the transfer.
He'd logged off the computer and was now carefully reorganizing the PokeBalls on his belt when he saw Sheena enter the lobby. She stopped in her tracks, obviously looking around for him and despite his better judgement, he waved to get her attention. He couldn't help notice just how happy she seemed to be, and he sighed as it only served to further cement the fact that he'd inherited a Camerupt. "Hey," he said as the pink-haired girl approached him. "So what are you gonna do now?"
"I guess I should head up to Mauville," she said, after a moment or so of thought. "I wanna challenge the gym leader and win myself my third badge. Since you're so slow, I figure I can catch up easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy." She giggled and poked the redhead in the side.
"I'm not slow!" Keegan protested, the end of the last word coming out a bit high-pitched as it felt as though her finger was trying to stab him in the kidney. "I've just had a lot going on lately, that's all." He huffed and crossed his arms, but he allowed himself to relax and he even managed a bit of a smirk. "You should. I don't think you'll have any problems defeating Wattson, but I wouldn't recommend using your Pelipper."
"Electric-types, right," Sheena nodded, her brow creased in thought. "Okay, I'm going to do this! I'm gonna beat Wattson and win my third badge. And you go and beat Norton-"
"Norman."
"Whatever! I'll go win my gym battle, and you go win yours, and we'll both get stronger, and then we'll battle again! And I know you and Boris are gonna make a great team, okay!" She didn't give Keegan a chance to answer as she jumped at him, throwing her arms around his neck and spinning them both around before she kissed his cheek and ran out the front doors, giggling the entire time.

In all honesty, Jett hadn't expected very much of his Ekans, considering she was at a much lower level than the rest of his team (excluding Viy, of course). And after last night's ordeal, he was unsure of the decision to capture the Poison-type at all, but, much to his chagrin, he was proven wrong yet again. The Snake Pokemon was holding her own in this battle against her airborne opponent, and the raven-haired boy did not doubt that she would only become a more useful addition in the battles to come. The two watched as Bugsy came up with a clever counter -- one Jett should have expected, but he only assumed that the Fighting-type Vacuum Wave was a physical attack -- that was swiftly eliminated when the Glare pulled off.
Jett couldn't help but feel proud of both Naja and himself in that moment, and he wasn't able to resist the smile that tugged at the corners of his lips. A thousand smug remarks jumped to mind at that moment, but he bit his tongue. He wanted to keep his focus on just the battle. "Naja," Jett said, his voice level, although he allowed himself a tiny, confident smile. "Poison Sting." The snake complied, darting towards the paralyzed mantis, her fangs taking on a purple hue. She struck quickly, leaping towards the Bug/Flying-type, aiming to sink her fangs into it yet again.

Remembering the buzzing she had felt earlier, Amy checked her PokeGear, finding that she had gotten a message from Karrigan. The bespectacled girl stood there, reading carefully, squiting at the device. "Unova," she said aloud, testing the feel of the region's name on her lips. She hadn't heard very much about it before. But maybe that was where all of those eggs came from. She thought of Brutus the Sandile, who sorely needed training. After this, we're going to get serious about that kind of thing, Amy resolved, replying to Karrigan's message with a wish that they would see each other again soon and storing away her PokeGear.
"Now for the switches!" Amy looked around at the four trashcans that Winston seemed to be guarding. She crouched down and cautiously dug around in the closest one. Thankfully, there wasn't any actual garbage, just some crumpled up papers. Her fingers brushed the bottom of the bin, finding nothing else. Amy promptly stood up, brushed herself off, and checked the next bin, finding more paper and still no switches. Winston watched from afar, looking almost amused. The third bin, however, yielded different results: Amy's finger brushed against something and flicked one of the switches. Nearby, one of the lines of electricity making up the gym's unique fence turned off. "One down," she said with a smile, standing up. "One to go!"
Hoping she was on some kind of lucky streak, Amy moved to the trashcan right beside the one she was inspecting. Just as she crouched to check it out, she was interrupted by a boy with long hair and an electric guitar. "Whoa, stop right there! You're not going any further until you beat me!" His grin made it seem like the idea was laughable. Amy stood up just as he retrieved his first Pokeball, tossing it into the air before accompanying it with a dramatic guitar riff. "Magnemite, let's rock!" The Magnet Pokemon appeared, its drone almost harmonizing with the guitar. The long-haired boy sneered. "I'm Adam, and don't go thinking I'll go easy on you like Winston did!"
"Oh, I would hope not," the brunette answered, smiling. She plucked a Pokeball from her belt. "I have just the Pokemon for this! Come on out, Marshall!" She tossed it lightly into the air and the Wooper popped out, grinning widely. He hopped about, his excitement palpable. "Marshall, I need you to focus," Amy said, almost sternly, and the Water/Ground-type snapped to attention, eyes alight upon the sight of his new, metallic friend. "Let's try your Mud Bomb attack, okay?" Adam's confidence seemed to wane when he realized that the strange, bubbly little Pokemon was part-Ground type. Things did not improve when, with a happy little "woop," Marshall's mouth filled up and he seemed to outright vomit a blob of mud right into his poor Magnemite's face.

"Well, you said you wanted to get some training in anyways. Not much fun in hanging out in the woods all day, attacking stray bunnies, huh?" Jade asked, feeling ready and raring to go as they left the cafeteria. The thought had occurred to her that these bullies (as Jake so eloquently put it) might be stronger than either of them, but for some reason she doubted it. People who needed to publicly assert their strength often didn't have much of it. The Kimono girls did not need to prove their strength, although it was a well-known given. They simply accepted challengers and, for the most part, crushed them. That was all that was needed.
Jade thought more on that as the two made their way towards the edge of town, where the gate to the cycling road was blocked by a cluster of bikers in all shapes and sizes. They seemed invigorated from a recent win, evident by the remnants of a bike left at their feet. As the two trainers neared, they began to clamor for more. "You two kids plannin' on doing some biking today?" one particularly large man thundered, showing his yellowing teeth with a feral grin.
"Nah," Jade said breezily, "we just heard that there was some trash down this way, pretending to be trainers. Figured we ought to correct 'em." There were passerby who began to slow, watching the newest confrontation to see if the end results would be any different. Immediately, four bikers began to advance upon the two at once. "What, you guys can't handle a decent one-on-one battle? You really are sad." That didn't serve to actually make anyone stop, but it did pique the interest of a few more bikers. Well, s**t, Jade thought, now understanding how all of those other trainers lost, up until a booming, gravelly shout silenced the others.
A stocky, older man stepped out of the crowd; the authority with which he walked obviously set him out to be some sort of leader. A woman followed suit, half-smirking. "Girl's askin' for a fair challenge, I say we give it to her," the man said, smiling wide enough to show a gold tooth. "We'll show blondie and his loud girlfriend here why we're still standing and why there ain't no other trainers around there that can beat us. What do you two have to say to that?" Jade said nothing, trying to keep a cool face and mostly failing. She looked to Jake to see what he thought, eyebrows raised.

For several moments, Keegan stood in the exact place Sheena had left him, staring vaguely in the direction he'd gone before he realized that someone was trying to get his attention. Blinking, the redhead turned to see the nurse smiling and waving at him, and he exhaled slowly as he made his way over to her. "Your PokeNav is fully charged," she told him, handing the device and charger over to the young man. "You might want to keep a closer eye on the battery in the future."
Keegan smiled meekly as he accepted the items. "Thanks, I'll try to remember that," he mumbled, stuffing the charger into his backpack as he wandered over to an empty couch and lazily flopped down onto it, throwing his bag into the corner so as to claim the entire thing for himself for the time being. He sighed as he booted up his PokeNav, tapping his fingers impatiently against his thigh as he waited. Unsurprisingly it started to chirp at him, and relentlessly at that, and he chuckled to himself, more than certain that most of the missed calls and messages would be from his mother. He wouldn't be wrong and he laughed as he saw that many of them were indeed from her, most of which had been sent shortly after he left home with The Dame. They probably want me to send The Dame home, he thought, realizing he'd forgotten that the mama Charizard was still in his possession.
It took Keegan about fifteen minutes to go through all the messages and voice mails, but only a few of them really caught his attention. Yes, most of them had been his mother asking where he was and why he wasn't messaging her/calling her back. One unexpected message was from his younger cousin, Miharu, boasting that she'd just claimed her sixth Johto League badge and was challenging him to a battle - if he was man enough, of course. The message was a few days old but he responded nevertheless - he accepted the challenge and offered to meet her in Goldenrod City tomorrow: he didn't want to let his little cuz down and it'd be the earliest he could make it to Johto. ===== Until now, the largest Pokemon Center Miharu had been inside was the one in Goldenrod City, but this one easily took the proverbial cake. Karrigan and Damien's Pokemon were not in need of treatment so the the three sort of migrated out of the flow of traffic. She smiled a bit when Damien said that he didn't have any clear-cut plans, and that Karrigan was looking into a gym challenge. She felt a jolt of pain and the weight of her six badges only added to it, but she didn't get much of a chance to dwell on it as Karrigan brought up the prospect of helping her to catch a new Pokemon.
"Oh," was all she was able to say, and the hollow feeling inside seemed to expand exponentially. "That's very... kind of you," she said, wringing her hands, and she managed to sit herself down on the nearest chair, "but... it's just that..." Her voice quivered as she spoke, and she paused for a moment, gaining her composure. "I don't want a new Pokemon," she stated finally, a strained sort of firmness finding its way into her tone. "I appreciate the offer, but... just... no." She breathed in and out a few times, finding that she felt a little better now that she'd given her thoughts on the matter. "You two should go. I'll be fine here, I'm sure I can find something to keep myself occupied. Besides, you came here to explore, not babysit me. I'll be all right, I promise. Go out and enjoy Unova." ===== Badges, of course, Damien mused as Karrigan spoke, and he thought of the single Stone Badge that sat all by its lonesome. He also thought of the many different Pokemon they'd seen since entering the region, even if all of them were under the care of various people and trainers. He did look up, a bit surprised, as Karrigan volunteered the two of them for the service of obtaining a new Pokemon for Miharu, and for a moment, he honestly considered giving the ever-wriggling egg to the younger girl. He wasn't surprised, however, when she flat out refused the offer, and he closed his eyes, nodding slowly. He understood her reasoning completely, as it was already heartbreaking enough to have lost her Pokemon, but starting over completely would be adding insult to injury.
Even still, Damien didn't feel right just leaving her here on her own, and though he wasn't even sure he'd label Karrigan as a friend just yet, he looked to the redhead for some sort of support. He wouldn't really get a chance to say anything else as the egg in his arms had decided that it was time to hatch.

Of course, at this time, Keegan was still blissfully unaware of his cousin's ordeal as he sent his reply message, and naturally he thought nothing of it when he received a rather prompt response in turn. Of course, at this time he did not know that her PokeNav was currently in the possession of Leroy Rockwell, even if the redhead fount it to be a bit uncharacteristic of Miharu to use a smiley-face; she often acted a lot older and more mature than her age would suggest. He dismissed the thought as he sifted through a group of his mother's repeat messages, deleting them as he went until he was left with only his voice mail. Only two of those currently graced his inbox, with the first one from the day before and from Dante, of all people, and the redhead raised an eyebrow as he was wished luck in his upcoming gym battle. Okay, Dante's a creeper and he's stalking me, he thought, not sure if he should be amused or worried as he deleted it and moved on to the second voice message. This one was from his mother (shock and surprise) but the worried tone to her voice immediately put him on edge.
The way she spoke reminded him of the time she'd called him and told him he had to go home, which had ended in him having to hand Helios over to Sheena's nasty hell-b***h of a sister. This call had come through probably about the time he was in the midst of using the Fire Stone on Eithne, and he checked his watch compulsively before replaying the message. "Okay, that is weird," he murmured after listening to it a third time. It appeared as though Miharu had intended to swap her Pidgeot for her Metang, but when his mother checked the supposed-bird's PokeBall, it had been empty. She hadn't noticed it until this morning, as it was only natural considering the numerous Pokemon she and his father looked after.
Miharu's young, but she's not stupid... she knows she can't carry seven Pokemon with her, the boy thought, looking back to the reply he'd received only minutes ago. A bad feeling had started to grow in the pit of his stomach, but he tried to shrug it off. As much as he hated to admit it, his younger cousin was smart, and apparently a pretty good trainer, at that. It was likely that she had a perfectly logical explanation for the party mix-up.

Ben watched as Jasper seemed to let the attack hit his Pokemon. Then gritted his teeth as he called out a Poison Gas attack. It was good that he knew how to counter it. As soon as Jasper called out for gas, he called out to Pidgey. "Pidgey, use your Gust attack! Blow that gas away!" Pidgey chirped as he hovered in the air, flapping his wings strongly as Koffing released the gas, quickly blowing it back into Koffing's face. Ben smirked and gave his Pokemon a thumbs up. "Great job, buddy!" Pidgey had a confident look in his eyes as he kept himself airborne. Ben knew that the Koffing was likely immune to its own attack, but he hoped that Pidgey's Gust was strong enough to have done a little bit of damage on top of deflecting Koffing's poison attack.
