Lol, yeah... Audley, that... there was a big change of information on commissions last night. *smackface* It's June 4th now, for the curious. Prints, bookmarks, and old original art are also going up for sale. My apologies about my own nonuniformity... this is just one permanent change, I swear.

Aliena, indeed! You were the first to actually commission me *lufflehugs* GOod thing those bookmarks are still holding up. I kinda get pissed if things don't last for more than three years. Especially if I make 'em.

Public favoritisim is boo. Private is fine. XD heart

But those lists are all around DA too...

They are? The absolute gall - I'm amazed! Actually, considering art fanciers ... maybe I'm not (;

Sooo ... who would you love to commission, then? (; I think this topic was really getting around to that particular subject, anyway (; I'm curious - most people around here seem to have commissioned everyone who's fab already, really (:

Yeah, I mean on DA, you have the lists of artist friends, but then separated out, you have people putting lists of the "awesome" artists in their journal. And you see pretty much the same names there and they certainly deserve to be there because their work IS spectacular!

LOL! I wasn't going to mention names! But...ok. And I'm not doing the favoritism thing or anything now! I think if I could commission anyone, if I had the money, I'd probably want to do Peachysticks next if she opens them up. Or a number of my PE friends. I know I always have a chance of getting a pic from them in a round, but I do want to support them in their artwork and they make better slaves if you commission them. *winks* Lately, I've really been falling in love with Michelle-Lee Phelan's (artoftheempath) work. It's so storybook! And of course, all the super-realism-superstars who cost a bunch of money! But really, there are so many artists who I'm not naming, who I would just love to get art from! And so many I've been discovering who really aren't known by many, but are fabulous!

Woe - yes! I keep one bookmark in a book at all times and the other is actually on my fridge. And then I switch them out periodically. I think I want to make bookmarks too, either as commissions or maybe to sell on Ebay. Did you get them professionally laminatedor did you do it yourself?

OK, baby's crying! Gotta jet!

X3 Awww, yay for Aliena's bebe. <3 She's so cute.

Anyhow, it's a fiar moderate bit of labor, but nothing compared to a commission. I printed them out on cardstock, cut them out... brought them to Staples, and Staples is magic (Staples uses the thick laminate sheets. Office max is cheap, and so is my school sotre). For $1, I can get up to 8 of them laminated. But then, have to go home and cut them again. Then, hole punch and add 9 inches of red ribbon.

ALl that time calculated, it takes me about one full day to produce a batch of fifty bookmarks, which I sell at $3 each.

:p Well, not counting commissions bookmarks. But yeah, I just get things done in batchs at staples. I did the math and, unless i Were to make, say, like, a thousand bookmarks, it's cheaper to get them done "professionally."

Ohh, those (; Well, I have something like that on my ShoutBoard (ack), but in my defence, the only artists listed there are ones I've commissioned or am currently commissioning (;

I apologise for putting you on the spot (; I can't definitively speak for Peachysticks, obviously, but as far as I know, she's open now; I contacted her about a commission in March - quite slackly, I have not yet got back to her with references and relevant information (which is terrible, but I haven't been able to get a reference completed).

The PE artists really are something else - you're all so fab and every time I turn around I see a new and brilliant piece from one of you. Ah, to be PE-worthy ... and, well, artistic at all (;

Meanwhile, thank you for sharing Michelle-Lee Phelan's name - I'd never heard of her before, but her faeries are really beautiful. Who are the super-realism-superstars, anyway? (;

Since you shared names, I'll share a couple, too (; My current hope-to-commission-them is HOON. I have a chance to commission them (just the lines - the colour is done by one of the other Mess Studio-types, I think) for a character project they're running, but it's an application commission - if my character of choice is not brilliant enough, it probably won't be taken. I'd also really like to re-commission Loish - I was in touch with her a little while ago, but I didn't have the time to follow up on it ... hopefully my act will be more together when she opens up commissions proper next time.

On an unrelated note - I hope baby isn't crying still (:

Wow, one of them messtudio pics is $200 :O
PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 9:49 pm

Indeed, and apparently that's a bargain for them; it probably is, but still, it's not an amount I frequently give out with commissions. Having said that, it feels like there's a massive price change coming for some artists - I'm not really sure how that will take if their major source of commissions is deviantART, but I hope it works out for them.

Yes, they're very talented! I still don't know how I got in - I think it was more of a "she's pretty nice!" thing rather than a "her art kicks butt!" thing. lol. I've improved a lot since I joined, though, thanks to many of them. But yeah, it's more than just giving and getting pretty pictures - some people don't get the community aspect of it, but that's been what I've loved most about being a part of it. I've been kind of less active there lately, though. I need to jump back in more!

Well, I mean, it's pro stuff you're paying for, so $200 IS a bargain. But really, it's when those bust shot trends popped up that caused the prices to go down the most, IMHO. I'm, personally jacking up, though... because not only do I need more money, but I want to try and make more money off prints and such... since it's less work, and I miss my OCs.

Harhar. Being in PE has its advantages, indeed. A bunch of OGAWG members are PE, too, actually... moreso the overall R/C has a bunch XD; dunno if I should spill 'em though. WE've got decent RL commission rates (like, $30 for a single char illustration.. depending on who, though) , so I can link you to them if you want.

Pffbt, Aliena, as a PE oldbie (sorta. I'm at 1 year and 10 months), I can tell you you were in within, like, three days. I said YES, of course, soon as I saw the nomination. <3 Argh, if only I could, like, get more in touch with my Calanthra. School's been kind of kicking my arse considering my activity there.

It really is, that's why I'm hoping my application won't be too dreadful for them (; The prices for high-quality busts were very "competitive" at the time, I suppose, though I didn't notice too many changes in general elsewhere - having said that, I wasn't really keeping an eye on the situation, so nothing I say is terribly relevant, really (;

A lot of people are going up or have gone up recently - good for them (: And you, too (; It's completely reasonable to me, and I don't see why anyone would bother doing commissions for an amount they don't consider worth their time.

If you have any PE commission-related links to share, I'm all ears - or eyes (how strange-looking I am ...).

Aw, you're very talented, too, Aliena! You can be nice and talented at the same time, I hear (; Meanwhile, it does sound very rewarding for an artist to be part of that collective - it sounds like you really enjoy it (:

http://fetalstar.deviantart.com is taking, I know. Busts mainly, I think. Natural media.

http://caeline.deviantart.com is definitly taken, but her pics are in a pretty high range, considering the average prices her eon Gaia.

http://alienfirst.devinatart.com is doing marker chibi commissions.

http://kiriko-moth.deviantart.com ... her work is gorgeous, a tad expensive, but she's open from what I know.

http://isskottr.deviantart.com is usually taking.

http://kendre.deviantart.com also usually takes.

You'd have to ask Kimaya and Aliena for more.

A few of those I'd never heard of before - thank you for the links (:

I've really enjoyed Kiriko Moth's work for a little while now, but I usually um and ahh over by the hour work - it's just easier to go by definite dollar amounts ... but it would be definitely worth inquiring over, I think (; Although "Characters cannot be copyrighted, only trademarked." from the commission FAQ is probably not something I would agree with or to.

Since this is chatterboxy, here we go! I got nostalgic thinking about my first avvy, and my latest, and also the first commission i ever had, and the latest, and thought "why not put them all together!" So here you go, enjoy!

ahhh, why must you taunt me. ;_;

I have to have enough money to put down a deposit and possibly a broker's fee on an apartment this summer, and for the area of NYC i want to be in that's about 5k. Need to resist urge to commission. crying

My first commission was chibi Kranis, I got it as a joke (ha ha look, your level 33 CE fighter/sorc is so CYUUUTE) , but it caught on... everyone else wanted a chibi, so I ended up getting chibi Naerynth and chibi Ilmryn, and well.. we just spriralled out of control from there.
