Tura cast the spell into a disk, curving the edges slightly and as the flecks of fire caught in it some glanced off harmlessly but some hit at just the right angle to catch the curves and return to thier caster with as much ferocity as they had come with.
Vilya could not avoid the claw entirely. One blade flew from her gasp as the other she managed to pull away. She slid from the creature's back and rolled, nimbly landing on her feet on the ground once more.
"Funis Phasma." She said under her breath, casting the spell about her sword. The blade began to glow blue, a tiny thread of energy ending in Vilya's hand. She waited carefully, waiting to see what her opponent would do.

Noah calmy spoke his next incantation. "Dilato." He said. as he did the disk of heat and flame that he held out with his left hand expanded until it was several feet in diameter. The drops of flame that had rebounded at him were absorbed back into their point of origin. The fiery rain ceased suddenly as Noah stopped feeding his energy into it. "Praemium."As he spoke the second incantation the entire disk erupted forwards. A wash of flame, heat, and light burst forth towards the griffin that he was combatting.
Luz recongnixed a spell when he saw one, but he had no idea what this one actually did. He decided to play defensively until he could ascertain more about what his opponent was doing. He turned fully to face Vilya and began circling slightly. He made sure that his body was mostly facing her, ready to strike if an opening presented itself, or defend if she attacked. All the while while pacing slowly around her.

Vilya saw the spell being cast behind them, keeping the great cat in her vision as she circled to mirror him.
She sent a string of thoughts to Tura, not in words but in pictures and felt a thought of agreement as a reply. Smiling Vilya ran at the lion dodging to the right and lashing out at the beast's flank, all the while keeping a good hold on the little thread. She struck aiming to slash from hindquarter to shoulder, making a dodge the only way for the animal to avoid damage.
Tura let the spell be thrown, manipulating the shape of her own shield again she leapt into the air. The wall of flame passed under her as she threw the shield between it and herself, stretching the edges of her defense she gathered the fire with its corners, concentrating it back into a disk and instead of forcing it to disipate which would have cost her a lot of energy, she changed its course ever so slightly and used the power of her deflection shield to give it more momentum. The flame disk hurtled onward straight for the lion's back.
The problem with having a mane is that one's peripheral vision is non-existant.
Vilya watched the disk, jumping back after her strike to avoid it...this was going to be close!

Smart, using my attacks against me. Two can play that game...
"Speculum murus." Noah said, calling to life a barrier similar to the one that currently protected his opponents partner.
The newly summoned barrier appeared around his own partner, Luz. It was the shape of a quarter sphere and protected the feline creature from the oncoming fire. The fire collided with the shield and rebounded, as if it were light from a mirror, reflected and careening off at an angle to its point of impact, which happened to be towards the female combatant his partner was currently engaged with.
Luz, confident in his partners ability to protect him from incoming magical assault kept his concentration on the female Mage. She came in with a slash to his side and he sidestepped out of her reach. He immediately responded with a quick swipe from one paw aimed for her lower body, hoping to throw her off her balance.

((This is gonna have to end sometime))

Tura immediately threw the shield she had not yet dispelled around her companion, repelling the fire into the wall of the building. Vilya concentrated on dodging the claws as Tura landed, pivoted and leapt towards Luz' back, again exploiting the same weakness they had tried before. The shield spell she released, glad to feel free of the drain.
She thought as Vilya danced around the lion.

As the spell hit Vilya released the thread the had been holding. It shot across the room and over to the young sage, as it flew it began to divide. Two strands, four, eight, soon thier were hundreds of threads threatening to ensnare the boy if he did not act quickly. With Vilya controlling the spell and Tura amplifying it it would be difficult to overpower.

Enough. This has dragged on long enough. Noah thought to himself. He knew that this battle had to end soon, one way or another. He was rapidly consuming his magical reserves.
He thought to his partner.
Luz responded as he again dodged aside from his enemies attacks.

Lux darted away from the griffin again, sprinting to his partners side. He spun about and fixed his eyes on his opponents, carefully observing what he hoped was not about to be a horrible mistake while making sure to protect his master.
"Lux lucis quod flamma inflatus." Noah said. A burst of fire and light erupted in the air before him. It gave off a powerful shockwave as it did so and light and flame washed out in a 360 degree wave that he hoped would disrupt his opponents spell.
He began his next spell immediately. He knew it would be his last for this battle. "Recolligo vires incendia inter mihi intra illa orbis luminarium ut circumvenio mei hostilis."
Once he had spoken he felt a massive drain on his magical reserves. Eight orbs of light appeared ina ring around Vilya. Each of them was twenty feet from her. Each of the orbs burned with a red-gold-white light and flames licked over them as well, burning in the same colors as the lights.

((You didn't really address the lion's vision problem created by his mane...))

Tura landed again as her target evaded her and her attention was drawn to the sage.
She could tell he was preparing something.
She sent her instructions again in pictures as they were more quickly interpreted. Tura obeyed, leaping toward her companion.
The blue threads turned white as the piercing spell enveloped them. Tura reached the young girl, wrapping her gently in massive black forelimbs and sprang into the air, clearing the wave of fire only barely. The threads survived, blue once more as the fire had destroyed her later spell and were upon the sage in an instant but he was not through. The gryphon watched as the eight orbs formed about the both of them.
Tura swallowed, preparing a shield spell in her mind.

Tura was taken aback for a moment as the words of the spell floated through her mind, then grinned at the challenge.

Azure Poison
As Damiano escaped his spell, Nathan lunged forward with his fist full of deadly sharp ice and attempted to punch at Damiano. From the other side, Sombra now stood in front of Damiano's partner. Sombra has not seen this creature before and was a bit taken back by it's appearance though it did not stop him from continuing his charge and swiping his mighty paw at the dragon.

Damiano ordered through thought speech. Ark roared his reply, emitting further waves of his terrifying Dragon's Fear aura. As the Lion's paw came at him, the dragon made to swat the lion away with one of his claws. Being a beast that surpassed the size of many other creatures, standing at twelve-feet at the shoulders and at a length double that from head to tail, the dragon was amazed the lion hadn't calculated that much in its assault.

Damiano, on the other hand, chose to deal with the sage. The young magus saw how Nathan was drawing close, trying to close the gap between them and enter melee combat. He fared well enough in close-quarters fighting, but Damiano preferred the keep his distance, more so now with the sage's fists cased in blade-like shards of ice. Damiano stepped back, keeping an eye on the sage, watching his movements. He thought of many spells that could possibly break the sage's attack, but thought better of using them so close to his companion.

It dawned on Damiano, as the sage closed to a full twelve paces from him, that he could always hasten himself magically, making the close combat that, at this point seemed inevitable, a little easier on him. For a moment, and only a moment, Damiano closed his eyes and ceased moving, taking the precious time required to form the somatic gestures of his spell. The magic was focused inwardly and felt like he were donning a mantle of sorts. The words came to mind and, the moment he opened his eyes, he spoke them in a calm, almost soft voice,
"I poteri che sia lavoro la mia accelerazione!"

With his spell functioning well, Damiano noticed that the space between him and the sage had closed to about four paces. This was alright, he was ready. The spell he had cast would help him, he was certain of this. Damiano positioned himself in a loose defensive stance, preparing to be as malleable as possible. His staff was set ahead of him, prepared to intercept the oncoming attack. As his eyes locked on the sage, he began to take in the man's movement patterns for best defensive effect.

(( I kind of figured Nathan was already in striking range of Damiano before he broke from his darkness spell... Why else would he had prepared to clutch his fist as if to strike if he wasn't close enough? Not to mention I don't think Damiano should have had that amount of time to counter after a surprise attack from just escaping the darkness. ))
PostPosted: Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:06 pm

((The gust spell he cast should have been a strong enough blast of wind to knock any humanoid back if they weren't expecting it. As I would find it extremely hard to believe Nathan could perceive what spell Damiano would be using and, at such a close range, to have countered appropriately, I think I have the liberty to use another spell.

Also, if you had read, Damiano prepared himself for the counter attack when he emerged. That was cue for you to continue your attack sequence, which, you didn't. The response, as you made it, caused me to believe that Nathan was not close enough to attack Damiano immediately enabling him some time to make an appropriate response.

Furthermore, I think you're in the dark as to how Dragon's Fear works. Save Damiano, in this case, all creatures within the zone of his fear radius (which would be Nathan and his Lion) would have to try and resist being terrified of the dragon. As you made no responses to it, I reiterated in case you had missed it.

Finally, Nathan's Lion companion must be freakishly huge, or else you've also neglected to read Ark's description. He's 12 feet tall at the shoulders, 20 feet at the head. He's also 24 feet long, from head to tail. Furthermore, he's a Dragon! This is an enormous creature and, in all honesty, would have caused any sentient being to rethink their strategies.

I feel that the NPC you're in control of is severely lacking in body. A flat character like that, who does nothing to summon forth magic and doesn't even seem to break a sweat though it seems he's had to use more powerful spells than my character (who, by the way, has shown and admitted to his own fatigue) can't possibly, by writing and role playing standards, compare to one with a degree of depth.

I didn't complain up until now because I figured, "Hey, whatever, it'll be done soon enough because this is just a short battle that will end in the favour of the combatant." However, at this point, I've had enough. By comparison, my replies have been more detailed and better explained than yours. I don't think you have anything to complain about, let alone deserve to complain about something at this point.))

((I have to agree with Azure in the fact that he would not have stated that he was going to strike at Damiano unless he was actually in range to do so.
I agree with the fact that Damiano prepared himself before exiting the darkness, but he could not have been perfectly prepared for whatever was about to come. Though a simple wind spell is a good counter in any case and in many situations, so I have no issue with that.
Third point. This is not directly D&D. Ark may be based on the traditional silver dragon, but he does not possess the exact same abilities. He is a dragon, and therefore large and intimidating. Those facts together might inspire fear, but he does not have the ability to magically cause fear in his enemies.
4th. Luz and Sombra are, in fact, quite large. Much larger than an actual lion. I posted at one point their actual size, though I can't remember it anymore. Suffice to say, neither are as large as Ark, but they are plenty large enough that they could pose a challenge to him.
5th. I'll agree that Noah has been rather out of character. Azure could definitely be more imaginative with his spells, considering. As for Noah using too powerful spells, I disagree. These are spells that he uses regularly, he's comfortable with them and they come to him easily. Also, He's a Sage. He would not have gotten to that point, especially at his age, unless he was very good at casting, had a vast knowledge of spells, and had great stamina at casting.
Raistlin, you are, admittedly, much more articulate in your posts than Azure has been of late. At the moment I know that Azure is not donating a lot of his time and is more than likely simply posting to keep things moving. He has a valid excuse for this and I have accepted that. Bear with for the time being until he has more free time to donate to the roleplay, at which point I know that his posting style will rise back to its previous levels.))

(( What the.. =_= I didn't plan on making this a debate, I was just stating what I thought and was waiting to see what Raistlin thought about it so I knew whether or not I would continue with what I was doing or not.

And yeah, I'm sort of busy. I apologize. ))

((Don't worry Azure, just continue when you can.))

Noah saw as his opponents spell managed to survive his destructive attempt at a counter. As commited to this last ditch attempt as he was he could only hope that he beat her to the draw with his next incantation.
"Permissum incendia fluo inter thematis velut a procella quod comesum thematis." Nathan finished the incantation and felt almost all of his remaining magical energy drain away to power his spell.
The eight orbs of flame that now orbited his opponents burst into life. The flames surrounding them intensified and then began rapidly spreading between each other and then closing in like a fiery noose. Cinching tighter ad closer to it's target where he knew it would culminate in a powerful explosion.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:56 pm

Ark's dangerously swift claws tore through the air at Sombra more quickly than the beast had anticipated and manage to leave Sombra with shallow cuts that streaked across Sombra's left side but he managed to minimize the depth of the wound by propelling his body backwards by beating his wings in attempt to fly away but failed and only managed to slightly evade Ark's counter.

Sombra growled as he fell back a few feet and regained his footing, dirt kicking up as he stopped. Sombra thought quickly to his master in desperation.

Ill-fated for Sombra, Nathan was too busy with his own target to even consider what was going on on his partner's end. Nathan swung his icy fist at Damiano with an outstretched arm; that moment Nathan quickly muttered a spell from which the shadow, created underneath Nathan's arm during his attack, uplifting up at a great speed in attempt to stab Damiano from a lower angle as Nathan's icy fist was making it's way towards Damiano's upper body.

Vilya smiled. The spell had been offensive, just as she expected.
Several things happened at once.
Tura called the spell and Vilya felt the strange sensation as if she had been dropped quite rapidly a short distance.
She and Tura were suddenly right next to Noah and well away from the manifesting spell of the sage, she watched it and felt the heat on her skin as it grew into a massive ball of combusting energy.
The threads of her own spell had survived and, because the sage made no effort to evade them, wrapped themselves neatly about his body, bidning his hands to his side and immobilizing him.
The gryphon put Vilya down gently and she pulled her sword gently up against the boy's throat.
"Yield?" she asked, giving him a small smile.
The gryphon stood near, recovering from the sudden energy drain. She was not used to losing so much energy so quickly and it set her off balance slightly. She would certainly think twice before using the teleporation spell again.
