Smiling quietly, Ben continued munching on his sandwich, enjoying every last bite and reaching into his bag for a bottle of water to wash it down. When he was satisfied, he grinned at the other trainer and pulled out his Pidgey's pokeball. "So, now that you've seen Pichu fight before it evolved, how would you like to battle against my Pidgey? He's pretty tough!" Ben's mind wandered to the only Pokemon Jasper had which Pidgey would have a type advantage over, his Paras. But there was no guarantee that he would choose to use it. Any Pokemon would be good training for Pidgey, really, and all he wanted was to be good and ready for Falkner by the time the battle was over.

For a while, Riza considered going back to Pewter, but it had been hours and hours ago since she'd left, and she was sure that by now, Hayley would have challenged and hopefully beaten that Brock guy. She also had Shiro's Pokemon to consider, just what was she going to do about them? She initiated the item storage system on the computer and put away all of Shiro's items for safekeeping, but not before borrowing his HM for fly and teaching it to Faustus. He might as well be able to use the technique properly in battle, and it would be useful for him in contests as well. That reminded her, when was the next contest? And where would it be held? She made it her goal to find out within the next few days as a new contest would be the perfect thing to distract her and change her focus.
It was getting late in the day now and she'd missed two meals, but Riza wasn't hungry as she headed outside, a nervous, unsettled feeling growing in the pit of her stomach as she went around to the back of the pokecenter where she was sure a battle area of sorts would be, as most centers had them. She was right, of course, and she sighed as she walked out to the middle of it, quickly releasing Akima and Yula from their poke balls. The Weavile yawned and stretched, feeling a bit cramped while the Gardevoir simply looked at her trainer, having been able to pick up on the girl's pain and misery from inside her poke ball. Seeing her two most reliable Pokemon didn't help Riza to feel any better and she felt another wave of tears coming on. Her head swam from sudden dizziness and she almost fell to the ground, but Akima and Yula were right there to catch her. "Thanks," the dark haired girl whispered. "I dont know what I'd do without you two." * * * * * 'Normal-types are weak against...fighting?' Katie wracked her brains as she tried to think of what moves would be best to use against the Miltank. The orange haired girl wasn't shy about checking her pokedex, and she watched as Autumn ordered another round of attacks for both her Pokemon. Effa was told to use Defense Curl while the Buneary tunneled underground and Ilta had been told to attack Miles with a Tackle. The little fairy Pokemon curled itself into a ball, tightening its defenses while the cow like Pokemon charged forward. Katie silently wished she'd chosen to use Genki or Kord, but she had faith in her Pokemon. "Miles! Brace yourself and counter with Crunch!" Katie shouted.
Miles dug in his heels, teeth grit in determination as the Miltank charged at him. She hit with the strength of a truck but the Floatzel kept himself from crying out, instead quickly lunging forward and comping down with all his strength on the Miltank's shoulder and he absolutely refused to let go. The cow Pokemon bellowed out in pain, trying to shake the weasel Pokemon off, but Miles had a really good hold of her.
Nell, meanwhile, remained safely concealed underground, her senses alert as she moved upward. She burst through the ground beneath the Clefairy, sending the little pink Pokemon skyward. It shrieked fearfully before it plummeted downward again, landing hard on the ground and it was a bit slow to get up. Katie smirked gleefully at the successful attack. Her buneary may be cute but she was definitely not a pushover.

Naja was pleased to bite down on the annoying mantis; as it struggled, she wanted to stick on him all the more. The snake hissed, wriggling and attempting not to fall as Bugsy ordered for an Agility. Jett watched as the Bug/Flying-type began to pick up speed, lifting up off the ground. The raven-haired took a deep breath, refusing to the young gym leader and his comments get to him that easily. He had this, right?
"I was never a big fan of carnivals," Jett admitted without smiling, watching to make sure that the Ekans would not fly off Scyther as the two began to blur. "Naja, use Wrap, stay on him! Don't let up one bit, okay?" He received no reply, and could hardly see the visible results of Naja's efforts. In the air, the snake was growing less and less fond of her opponent, but maybe being closer to him would change that. The Snake Pokemon began to coil around the Scyther, aiming to wrap around some of his joints, or maybe even a wing. And then she began to exert all her strength, constricting and squeezing the mantis. If she was lucky, she could steer the both of them into a tree. Or perhaps bushes would be better -- they seemed much less painful to her at the moment.

"Castamere, you have to keep moving," Amy said, knowing already that they were in big trouble. Not only could Castamere not get close to the quick Pikachu, but now he couldn't dodge her attacks very well. With a wary growl, the Meowth began to back away. Pikachu did not follow; she did not need to get close to attack at all. The gentleman called for another Thundershock and, upon Amy's distressed cry, Castamere rolled out of the way. But the battle's toll upon the Normal-type was becoming quite obvious. However, Pikachu was looking fatigued as well, just not as much.
"Screech again!" Castamere sure was getting tired of making that noise, but he made it anyways. Pikachu's reaction seemed much less emphatic than last time.
"Quick Attack," said the older gentleman with a certain solemness that made it seem as though he knew the end game of this battle. Which, he probably did, but Amy didn't like being counted out that easily. As the little electric mouse became a yellow blur speeding towards Castamere, Amy grit her teeth. She had backed herself into a corner before, when she was battling at Erika's gym -- but she'd also gotten herself out of it! How could she do that here?
"Use Bite," she said, her voice softer than it had been the entire battle. As Pikachu barreled into the Scratch Cat Pokemon, he chomped down on her side, eliciting a painful-sounding squeal. All of those Screeches seemed to have paid off, and now Pikachu's defenses were drastically lower. The two Pokemon tumbled and scrapped on the floor, and it quickly became unclear which one was overpowering the other. The metaphorical dust cleared when they stopped: Pikachu, obviously at the end of her rope, crouched on top of a K.O.'d Castamere. After all that, I still lost, Amy thought as she recalled the cat, cradling the Pokeball in her hands. "Thank you," she whispered to the sphere before clipping it back to her belt. Her defeated stance made the older man cough, stepping forward.
"Would you like to leave?" he asked, not unkindly. "Perhaps you may want a bit more... training before you take on this particular gym." The bespectacled girl felt her cheeks grow hot; he was right to suggest it, considering how discouraged she must have looked after that battle. She looked at the door and thought of Riza, of Karrigan, of Scarlet. I'm never going to catch up to them if I keep running away.
"No," Amy said, at first softly, but then she repeated herself at a louder volume as she retrieved her second Pokeball. "No, this battle isn't done yet." She found it in her to smile. "Lee, let's show 'em what we're made of!" She tossed the Pokeball into the air theatrically, and out popped her trusty Tyrogue, who did a surprising flip before he landed. Amy noticed something peculiar about the way the Fighting-type moved, but she wasn't quite sure what it was. Oh, well; that wasn't her concern right now. "Use Mach Punch, go!" He replied immediately, landing a solid blow on Pikachu. She squeaked and rolled away, letting out another weak cry before passing out.

Shocker hadn't been prepared for her attack to miss, so she was off-balance as she landed and she stumbled a bit before coming to a stop. Casimir wasn't the kind of Pokemon to go easy on anyone, and right away his instincts were telling him to attack the Raichu. He didn't, however, as he, like the rest of his trainer's party, was well aware of what the mouse had been through, and as such, decided to give her a free pass for today. Tomorrow, however, he might not be so generous. The Absol's little stint of consideration didn't go unnoticed by Shocker, either, and she gave a quick little nod in return. She had to admit that the Dark-type had come a long way since he'd first been captured.
Sparks flared from the Raichu's cheeks as she prepared to generate a Thunderbolt, but it was a lot more difficult than she remembered it being. The jolt of electricity was just that, probably on par with a basic Thundershock but it was erratic, and even the clever Absol couldn't predict which way it would go. The Dark-type winced as it struck him, shaking his body as he staggered back. He knew he'd been fairly lucky, as if the mouse had hit him with full juice, he'd probably be having difficulty standing up right now. Casimir gave a growl and leaped forward, raking his claws across Shocker's belly.
The Raichu responded with a squeal of pain, which caused her trainer's head to whip around in that direction, and she was just in time to see her dear Raichu introduce her foot to Casimir's head. The blonde chuckled, turning back to her Piplup, but this time she was treated to the sight of Alphonse flailing wildly and somehow avoiding the first strike of Ivy's Vine Whip, while the second cracked him right across the behind. The little penguin wailed loudly, stumbling around a bit before he righted himself and shook an accusatory flipper at the offending Snivy. "Oops, that's my fault, sorry, Al!" Kasiya called out, a bit embarrassed. "Use your Agility, that ought to make it easier for you to dodge, okay?" Still absolutely livid, the Piplup allowed his body to relax and he felt almost strangely lighter on his little webbed feet. He hopped up and down a few times, still glaring at Ivy. Oh, it wasn't over yet!
=-=-=-=-= One thing Jaeshan definitely liked about Jade was the fact that sometimes, they could just sit there and total silence and they'd both be just fine with it. He managed to politely wolf down another large chunk of his breakfast as Jade answered, thinking nothing of her relatively vague answer. He nodded, stuffing some more bacon into his mouth and he chewed thoughtfully as he contemplated an answer to the question she'd just asked.
"Mm," he said, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "No gym challenge. Not yet, anyway. There's a specific move I'd like Sigilyph to learn first, one I think would really give him an edge in a gym filled with plant Pokemon." He poked at the remainder of his pancakes a bit, smirking over at the dark-haired girl. "That third lap will come soon enough. Figured it was time for a pit-stop." From there, however, he wasn't sure of what else he should say. After all, they had only parted company a few days ago, and he wasn't sure if Jade even really wanted to hang around with him all that much. Then again, she'd been the one to come over here just now, and he allowed himself to relax a little. "How are your Pokemon doing?" he asked, pushing a single chunk of bacon around in a pool of maple syrup and thoroughly coating it with the sticky stuff before eating it. "Is that Shinx of yours still a little livewire?"

"Hrm," her opponent said curtly, examining his fainted Pikachu. He had yet to get much of a reading on this girl; her confidence seemed to be vacillating as the battle went on. Could she really take on Surge? He recalled the Electric-type and retrieved another Pokeball, saying politely, "I never asked you for your name, lass." Amy looked at him with wide eyes, the tension of the battle broken for the moment.
"Oh, um, it's Amy!" she said, adjusting her glasses. Lee waited impatiently for his next opponent at her side, staring with rapt attention at the Pokeball in her opponent's hands. The old man nodded and adjusted his coat.
"It's quite nice to meet you, Amy. My name's Winston." He smiled some and then released his next Pokemon: a pink sheep that Amy was quick to recognize as Flaaffy. Almost immediately, the girl thought of how she had set out to capture a Mareep as her second Pokemon before Marshall happened along. The thought of the Wooper made her feel guilty; she really ought to be using him in these battles, especially since he hadn't seen much action or training recently, but she also didn't want to rely on him in the battles to come.
"Okay, use your Mach Punch again!" Amy called, shoving the issue out of her mind for the moment. Winston, however, seemed more prepared than before. As the Tyrogue rushed for the Wool Pokemon, he ordered for a Thunder Wave. Before Flaaffy could shock Lee and paralyze him, he was upon it, striking it steadfastly in the face. Flaaffy stumbled back and tried to use the attack, but already the Fighting-type was rolling out of the way. Amy smiled; she had been shaky with Castamere, but now she felt more comfortable in battling and she had battled with Lee before. And he was certainly no pushover.

Jade nodded in understanding; she remembered that odd little... whatever-it-was when it had hatched. Sigilyph seemed like a really cool Pokemon, and since it could fly, she would bet that Jake was trying to get a powerful Flying-type move before he challenged the Grass-type gym. Nice deduction, you're a real genius, she thought to herself, absent-mindedly watching the blonde boy eat his breakfast. Jade wondered how strong the rest of Jake's team must be now. Certainly stronger than hers, which was a crying shame. She had meant to catch up with her former companion some time ago, but never really got around to it. That was what kept her from challenging him to a battle, although the temptation was strong. The raven-haired girl only grinned ruefully when he asked about her team, mentioning her rambunctious little Shinx.
"He's certainly something," she said, almost fondly. Even if the Electric-type was a real pain in the a**, he was hers and they would come to some sort of understanding soon enough. "I'll need to train a lot with him, just to get him to cooperate. And the rest of them are good -- Solaris is still very much... Solaris. But they're good." A quick glance around the room told her that the blonde girl staring at her had disappeared for the moment. A quick frown creased her lips, before she looked back at Jake. "What about you, how's your team doing? Has Bibarel calmed down, like, at all?" She cracked a grin at the thought of the giant, angry Pokemon. The beaver had certainly made an impression.

Real meals were still somewhat of a foreign concept for Jasper, and his sandwich was gone after only a few large bites. He sighed contentedly and flopped back onto a rather well-placed beanbag chair, looking up at Ben as he'd produced a Pokeball, likely containing the Pidgey he'd mentioned beforehand. "Oh, right," he said, having nearly forgotten about part two of their battle. "Sure thing!"
With some difficulty, Jasper managed to haul himself up off the chair. Figuring that Zorua would be healed by now, he jogged up to the front desk to collect the little dark type's Pokeball. Despite the empty slot he still had on his roster, he felt oddly complete once the fox's Pokeball had been clicked safely into place on his belt, and he nodded to the younger trainer as he headed outside, almost certain Ben was to follow. He wasn't yet certain which Pokemon he'd use against a Pidgey, but he was fairly sure that he could handle it, especially considering the gym battle he'd won earlier. * * * * * * * * * * It was hard for Hayley's attention to not be drawn over to where the Raichu and Absol had started their own little training battle, but hearing the shrieks of the Piplup brought her focus back to Ivy and Alphonse. "Agility?" she repeated, head tilting slightly. It wasn't a move she would associate the little penguin with, but nevertheless, Alphonse's speed increased quite sharply, which would make things more difficult for them. Ivy, meanwhile, shrugged off the Piplup's angry glares like they were nothing, going so far as to dismiss the water type with a wave of her tiny little hand.
"Let's give your Growth a try," Hayley decided next. After all, if Kasiya was going to use stat-boosting moves, then so was she. Ivy closed her eyes and began to concentrate, a greenish glow enveloping her body as she did so. Curiously enough, however, instead of feeling stronger she felt odd - weaker, even. The green glow had turned to a harsh-looking red, and she looked back at her trainer with a quizzical look. Hayley wasn't quite sure what was going on, either - wasn't Growth supposed to make Ivy stronger? Immediately, the brunette yanked out her Pokedex - there had to be some sort of an explanation!

Ben nodded excitedly, grabbing his Pikachu's ball from the front desk before jogging out to follow Jasper. He bet that right now, Pidgey needed a good stretch of his wings. When they reached the area that they had battled before, Ben took Pidgey's pokeball, grinning as he released it and the tiny bird flapped powerfully, crying out, "Pidgii!" It looked like he was raring to go. Now he had only to wonder which of Jasper's pokemon he would pit against it. He hoped not one that was too strong..

Keegan had managed to enjoy about two and a half drags from his cigarette when he heard the sound of quiet footsteps coming up behind him. He smirked to himself, pretending like he hadn't noticed as he stared straight of him, and he thought he heard Sheena giggle as she reached him. "That didn't take long," he mumbled, glancing over at her as she'd stopped to his left, but all he really got was an eyeful of her long, lovely legs.
Before he could even think to stop himself his gaze had started go drift upward, but he didn't get too far before Sheena yelped and whacked the back of his head. "Don't look up my skirt!" she shrieked, trying futilely to tug down the fabric a bit in order to cover herself some more.
"I wasn't!" the redhead yelled defensively. "I was just looking at your legs!" The moment he said that, however, he realized it wasn't much better and Sheena gave another cry, although this time it was Helios giving him a wallop with the end of one of his many long tails. Keegan groaned and leaned forward, burying his face in his hands. "Alright, fine, sorry! I'm looking at the backs of my eyelids now, what do you want?"
Sheena, still a little flushed, continued to hold down her short skirt as though it would make a real difference, giggled a bit as the Ninetales doled out a bit of punishment to his trainer, and she straightened up a bit. "Silly Keegan, relax! You're so over-dramatic sometimes."
Keegan scoffed and shook his head. "Oh, I'm over-dramatic?" he said, voice dripping with sarcasm. "Hello, pot. Have you met the kettle?" Nearby, Helios rolled his eyes.
The pink-haired girl giggled again, watching the redhead intently as he got to his feet and took a long drag from his cigarette. This made her frown, but she chose to say nothing about it. "Actually, there is something I want," she said after a few moments of semi-awkward silence. "I've been thinking about it since we left the woods, actually." ===== Miharu felt a little more at ease knowing that she wouldn't be going to the police station alone, though the thought of giving a formal statement was rather terrifying. She'd be lying if she said that a rather large part of her was considering just backing down - what was done was done, after all - but the small part of her that wasn't scared was very nearly screaming for justice; for vengeance, even. She'd ridden in the back seat of the squad car between Karrigan and Damien, and it became very clear just how big Castelia City truly was. Even the buildings in Goldenrod City weren't this tall or impressive, and the small girl wished she were visiting the Unova region of her own volition rather than the circumstances that brought her here. The ride to the station wasn't overly long and she and her small entourage were ushered inside.
It didn't take too long for Miharu to give all her information and recount her story yet again, and she was quickly discovering that it wasn't becoming easier with every time she had to tell it. It almost felt as though she was starting to forget some of the smaller details and her tears seemed to come on a little faster, as well. After approximately an hour or so, she and the others were allowed to leave, only now Miharu really didn't know what she was going to do now. "Maybe we should get something to eat?" she suggested quietly, even though she wasn't all that hungry. More than anything else, she really just wanted to get off the busy street. "Or should we just find the Pokemon Center?" ===== Damien spent the majority of the ride through Castelia glancing between the busy city around them and his egg, which hadn't stopped moving since they'd finished up their training session back on the ship. As the dark-haired boy looked out over the literal hundreds and hundreds of people they passed by on the street, his sixth sense tingled almost continually, but the car was moving too fast for him to be able to pick up on anything of the supernatural variety.
They arrived at the station without incident and from there it was just a matter of getting through the next bit. Now, Damien wasn't the most emotional or empathetic of people, but even he felt a degree of sympathy for the younger trainer, as well as a fairly strong sense of abhorrence for this Leroy character. The egg never stopped wriggling, even as their business with the police was finished up and they headed outside. Damien watched an older officer in full uniform walking alongside a large, canine-like Pokemon, and he looked over at Miharu as she spoke. "Sure, I could go for some food," he said, shrugging. "We could always just eat at the Center, since we'll probably have to go there eventually anyway. Karrigan? What do you think?"
((Okay so the Miharu and Damien posts suck because reasons and I'm sorry, okay. SORRY.))

The plan to knock the Spearow out of the sky with ember worked somewhat. It did get knocked out of the air, but it fell right into Gigas pecking away at the Charmander even while it was burnt by the ember. The two pokemon went down in a heap scratching, pecking, and biting at one another until a kick to Gigas's stomach allowed the Spearow to fly free from the tussle. "Good hustle Gigas. Use ember again before he can take off!"
Javelin was trying to get off the ground and into the air, but another ember from Gigas grounded it once more. The young trainer gave a frustrated growl as his Spearow was attacked. "Nevermind trying to get away. Go full out with a fury attack again." The bird type did a one eighty and charged back at Gigas pecking with it's viscous beak. Many hit home, but Gigas managed to dodge a few. "Wow their feisty! Counter with scratch!" Gigas gave a little roar and started to scratch at the bird type with his small claws.
Javelin was batted off of the Charmander and the two simply stared at one another trying to figure out what the other would do next. The blows were already taking their toll on them. The battle would be decided in the next tussle for power.

Now that Powalski was temporarily the best type of Pokemon around, the two and a half Pokemon present decided to play a little game to pass the time while they walked. The objective was to by blow smoke in each other's faces while subsequently trying to dodge your own hazy fate. Pumpkin's ability to fly gave him the most obvious advantage, and with Powalski climbing all over Mike's body, the boy had a tough time avoiding their combined assault between all the giggling. Call him crazy, but it was like the grabby little lizard was tickling him on purpose! After the human became too easy of a target, he soon became nothing more than cover as the two Pokemon dueled it out.
In a mass of black smoke, Mike and company arrived at the Pewter Museum. Figuring the staff would not appreciate the sight or the smell (and from the big 'No Pokemon' sign that hung beside the main entrance), the boy decided to let his two Pokemon have some rest; he was here for knowledge after all! He let himself air out a bit before stepping through the revolving door.
Mike had been to the museums in Hoenn, like the Oceanic in Slateport, but this was was much cooler, and much, much cooler than the one in Lilycove. Creatures from ages long past was far more interesting to him than paintings. Nothing subjective about a badass pile of bones. On that note, Mike and his phantasmal entourage made their way over to the first glass display.
A spiral shell. Oh, it must be an Omantye! No it is much bigger than that. Look at the spikes.
"Says here," Mike leaned over and read the sign beside it. "Omastar: the Spiral Pokemon." He attempted his best PokeDex impression, of course. "The evolved form of Omanyte. This extinct Pokémon is believed to have used its sharp fangs to break through the shells of its prey in order to feed."
Adorable. Sarcasm.
"Very!" Mike agreed, legitimately, eyeing the artist's rendition of the creature under the description. "Sharp fangs, indeed. Hard to believe little Camerae is going to change into something this hardcore looking. Oh, there's more!" He read on. Apparently, they died out because their shells were too heavy? "How does that work?" Mike asked, furrowing his brow. "If it lived underwater, wouldn't that have kinda negated that? Seventy-seven pounds? That's nothing! You calling me fat, museum?"
It's only a theory...
"It's a stupid theory!" Mike huffed. "If I can propel myself through the water when I weigh almost double that, I'm pretty sure a Pokemon that can spit water with force equivalent to ten fire hoses can find a way to move around."
Well except now you can't really propel yourself through water. A phantom added, his mouth curling into a smile. Mike hissed in response to the snarky ghost. Correct. That's about how it would sound
"You know what I'm trying to say." he growled. "I'm going to look at the other exhibits." He all but stomped off, mumbling about how when Camerae evolved, he was going to show those stupid nerds just how wrong they were.

For a few moments Riza just stood there with Akima and Yula trying to regain her composure. When she felt a little more at ease, she reached into her side pocket and withdrew the six spheres that held Shiro's Pokemon. Truth be told she didn't know any of them all that well, and her best relationship was easily with Korra, Shiro's Froslass. The main issue was that she didn't know which poke ball, great ball and ultra ball held whom, so it was now up to random chance. She picked the first red and white sphere and clicked it open, giving a slight sigh of relief when she saw the friendly little Swinub. Riza didn't know of all the new nicknames Crenu had bestowed, but after a small conversation between Yula and the little fuzzy pig, the Gardevoir relayed them to Riza with a bit of difficulty, but soon enough she knew them all. "Terrato, hmm?" Riza said, kneeling down to pet the Swinub on the head. "I like it."
The first great ball she opened contained the disgusting Muk he'd traded for, Bubbles, and she put some distance between herself and the gross Pokemon. Newgate the Pupitar came next, and it became quite clear quite fast that he had little to no respect for the dark haired girl, as it was easy to see in the glare he shot her way. The ultra ball held the very egotistical and stuck up golden Fearow, Pet Shop, and Riza knew instantly that she'd have as much trouble with this one as the Pupitar. Korra and Carmen were the last two Pokemon to be released from their confinements, with the Froslass happily dancing over to the girl and twirling around her. It was easy to see the distress the young Elgyem was in, drifting about frantically as she searched for her trainer, fingers flashing wildly. Again Yula came to the rescue, managing to calm the younger psychic-type down and as such earned herself a new friend. Now that all the Pokemon were out and had her attention, the hard part was about to begin. * * * * * Autumn frowned a bit as her Clefairy slowly got back to her feet, and the fairy Pokemon glared at Nell. "Your Buneary's tougher than she looks," Autumn commented. "Let's see what we can do about that, Effa, use sing!" The little pink fairy began to sing a soothing lullaby, bright, shiny notes drifting out in a long line that circled around Nell. The Buneary's instinct was to try and punch them, lashing out with her powerful ears, but it wasn't enough as soon her eyes began to feel heavy and she fell over backwards, snoring softly.
Katie frowned and clenched a fist. Sleeping Pokemon were difficult, even if the Buneary looked rather cute as she snoozed. "Miles, you're going to have to try and keep an eye on Nell," Katie called, prompting a quick nod from the Floatzel. He'd finally been shrugged off the Miltank's shoulder. He gave a cry and jumped up, spinning in the air and smacking the normal-type not once with his twin tails, but twice. Katie's pokedex quickly told her that this move was in fact Double Hit.

Tenacious. That was a word to describe this Ekans. Bugsy was nothing short of impressed that the serpent could hold on even at the speed Scyther was flying at. "Enough boosting, it's time to slice and dice! Quick Attack!" This was something the Scyther was more than happy to do. To the naked eye, the Mantis Pokemon barely twitched, but even though the Ekans might not have been able to see the attack, he certainly felt the sting of Scyther's sharp blade against his scales.
Time to teach this kid why you shouldn't get close to a Pokemon that has swords for arms. The Gym Leader thought smugly.
------
Weezing was just not having a good day. It was in pain, on fire, and now apparently cursed by some angry fox demon. All in all, quite a poor time to be the floating gas ball. "Come on, Weezing!" Isaiah yelled. "Don't let that fox get to you. Another Sludge Bomb!" Sasha smiled coyly.
"Which fox?" she asked innocently. The biker narrowed his eyes.
'Weeez!' the Pokemon moaned, vomiting another attractive ball of gunk, which slammed into Kitsune's side, further enraging her. The Ninetales flared out her tails for another Hex attack, but was stopped by her trainer.
"Non, non. Extrasenseur!" It was time to end this fight. Using her mystical connection to the supernatural forces of the world, Kitsune reached out with her mind and latched on to her opponent. Weezing froze as he felt the very air around him seem to constrict his body. Before either him or his trainer could react, the Poison Gas Pokemon was embedded in the ground. It let out one more pathetic puff of smoke before fainting.

Growth could be troublesome, Kasiya thought, scratching her chin as she watched the Snivy begin to power itself up. Or at least, that was what was supposed to happen. The blonde tilted her head in confusion - it looked as though Ivy had been hit by a Screech or Leer or something like that. "That's strange," she murmured, but refrained from going for her own PokeDex. She had an idea though - Growth was supposed to boost both a Pokemon's Attack and Special Attack power, but when the Snivy had used it, it had lowered the stats instead of raising them. "Alphonse, use Growl," she said, a playful hint in her voice. The Piplup gave a surprised squawk and looked back at his trainer, who only nodded to confirm her command. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, the penguin waddled forward a few steps, balled up his little flippers and gave the fiercest-sounding little Growl he could muster. In Al's defense, it was hard to be scary when you were as cute as he was.
Casimir had given a growl when Shocker planted her foot into his face, even if it was rightfully deserved and he lunged at the mouse once more, only this time trying to take a chunk out of her with his sharp, curved horn. Now Shocker could easily remember the day they'd met and captured the Absol, as he'd managed to knock both her and Ariel out, and he'd given Kasiya a rather nasty wound as well. The mouse grinned impishly, figuring now was as good a time as any to dish out a little payback and she jumped back, carefully watching the Dark-type's movements as he continued to move in to attack her. This time, however, his horn started to glow with a bright, white light and he swung it wildly, sending out two curved blades of energy at her - he'd apparently just learned how to use Psycho Cut, but it wasn't like Shocker was about to stand up and applaud him for it. It took a little more effort for her to dodge this time, as the second blade missed her by an inch. As she landed on the ground she raced forward, launching herself into a Quick Attack. She ducked another pair of Psycho Cut attacks and slammed into the Absol's side, teeth grit in determination.
=-=-=-=-= Jaeshan smirked a little as Jade gave him a minor update of her team, and he nodded. He'd always been quite fond of her sassy little Vulpix, Solaris, as she wasn't one you wanted to mess with and somehow, he just knew that she'd make a fearsome and lovely Ninetales someday. Deciding not to question the depths of his own apparently hidden intellect, he chuckled a bit and leaned back in his seat.
"Bibarel? She's... well... pretty much the same," he said, momentarily flashing back to his little misadventure in the Chateau yesterday. Sure, he'd only really dreamed the whole thing but he'd found Bibarel's despair to be quite endearing, and it made him wonder if the Angry Beaver cared for him at all.
"Grotle's doing well, too," he added after a few moments of thoughtful silence. "And Magnemite, well, it has discovered a love for shocking me. Which sucks." He laughed ruefully and crammed the remainder of his bacon into his mouth, possibly unable to look any more displeased than he did right then.
=-=-=-=-= About the only thing that went through Karrigan's mind as they rode along in the police cruiser was that she hoped this would be the only time she found herself in one, though the fact that she was not handcuffed helped to relax her a little. Castelia City was easily the biggest city she'd ever been in, though she saw several similarities to Jubilife City back in Sinnoh. She fought of pangs of homesickness for the rest of the ride to the station, and with nearly zen-like patience she and her new friends(?) managed to get through what she was sure was hell for poor Miharu. She made a mental note not to bring up the younger girl's ordeal unless it was absolutely necessary, and as they walked out of the police station, she too spotted the large canine Pokemon that Damien pointed out. Her PokeDex quietly identified it as a Stoutland, and she looked up at the other two as they'd started to work out some sort of plan.
"I think the Pokemon Center is our best bet," she answered, her voice almost too quiet to hear as she put her 'Dex away. "Damien is right, as we'll need to find it at some point anyway. Besides, we can always choose a restaurant nearby if we don't want cafeteria food," she added, now looking around for some sort of sign or directory. She spotted a girl, easily of about ten or eleven, walking along with a small, brown, almost mouse-like Pokemon, and again she put her 'Dex to work, identifying the creature as a Patrat. She looked to Miharu as they walked along, wondering if the green-haired girl would be offended if she offered to help her catch a new Pokemon. At the very least, she'd have a new friend to help her get through this crisis.

It was getting harder and harder to see what exactly the two airborne Pokemon were up to, but it seemed Bugsy had a better idea than Jett. The dark-haired boy folded his arms across his chest, squinting a bit in order to clear the blur zooming around the area. He had half a mind to show the young gym leader what he could do with a Pokemon that actually flew, but he would give Naja her fair chance. The Ekans was doing a surprisingly good job, up until Bugsy called for a Quick Attack. Confused as to how that would watch, Jett tried to see how the Scyther attacked, but all it did was twitch. Naja cried out in pain, and then the snake was tumbling toward the ground, landing harshly.
Jett held his breath until the Ekans got up, looking a bit worse for wear but not out of the battle yet. Then, something sparked in his mind and he retrieved his Pokedex, aiming it at the Mantis Pokemon. He ignored all of the information, instead choosing to scan its moves. As he read, he began to smile. It was as he had figured. "The thing about Pokemon with mostly physical attacks, no matter how fast they are," Jett said, "is that eventually, they have to come back around." Feeling a little smug himself, the raven-haired boy focused his attention on the Snake Pokemon. "Naja! Let's slow 'em down with your Glare!" Naja turned back upon Scyther and lifted herself up, trying to lock down that giant bug with her eyes, burning with malice. She, too, was a physical attacker, and those sword arms weren't going to stop her!

Amy felt her PokeGear buzzing in her pocket, but tried to ignore it so as not to be rude. She brought her focus back on the battle by calling for Lee to use Tackle, which was rebuffed by a strong Thundershock that sent the Fighting-type tumbling back. After a tense moment, Lee jabbed the air a few times, not paralyzed. The Flaaffy did not seem as quick as Pikachu, but it was certainly nothing to sneeze at. The pink sheep, while adorable, had no problem keeping her opponent at bay, and with powerful attacks at that. An Electric-type wouldn't be bad at all to have on my team, Amy thought, watching Lee flip out of the way of another Thundershock. She would have to focus on diversifying and strengthening her team after this, if she wanted to take coordinating seriously. Coordinating, that's it! she thought abruptly, almost shouting it out. Lee didn't need all types of fancy attacks in his movepool; they could just use some fancy footwork!
"Lee, flip up and above!" Amy called with excitement, and the Fighting-type complied, rushing forward before he kicked off the ground. The Flaaffy backed up a little as the Tyrogue arced towards her, already catching the next part of Amy's plan. Before she could charge an appropriate thunder-whatever, Flaaffy was slammed by the Scuffle Pokemon's heel, digging right into her skull. Adding another possibly brain-damaged future Ampharos to the population, Lee only kicked off from there, flipping once more behind the pink sheep and landed neatly... on his head. Both Amy and Winston paused, watching the Tyrogue stay there, hands planted firmly on the ground, the tip of the ridges on his skull brushing the floor. The Fighting-type didn't even move; not a wobble, not a twitch of uncertainty or imbalance. "Lee...?" Amy whispered, very much afraid that her Pokemon had been electrocuted and had his brain rewired without anyone noticing. But then the Tyrogue did move: he began to twist himself, spinning on his head, rotating faster and faster as though he was made for it. As soon as he picked up speed, Lee began to glow.

Jade couldn't help but laugh a bit at the update of Jake's team. Basically: angry, good, likes to shock. Why, that sounded quite similar to her own; granted, Solaris was more proud than angry, but one was often caused by the other and it wasn't like the descriptor was completely inapplicable. She mulled over that as the blonde finished the rest of his breakfast, and then realized that she did not know what she was going to do next. Training was such an incredibly broad category, and now that she had found Jake again, were they to stick together like before? She hesitated to ask, wondering if it would be too awkward.
When Jade stood up, waiting patiently for her companion to gather his dishes and put them away, she noticed first, that the pretty freckled blonde was back, and second, that she seemed very upset about something. Actually, there were some other new trainers in the cafe that seemed pretty upset. As they put away Jake's dishes, she caught little bits and pieces of conversations. Phrases like "it's so totally unfair" and "maybe we should call Gardenia" drew her attention. Her brows furrowed, and she turned towards a younger trainer talking to some others. "What's going on?" she asked, trying to keep her tone casual.
"There are some really scary bikers down by the entrance to Route 206," he sniffed, seemingly on the verge of tears. "T-they said that if we weren't strong enough to beat them, we don't deserve to go on the cycling road. They even crushed my bike..." Feeling suddenly very inadequate to deal with the situation at hand, Jade waited for the boy to be emerged in conversation with other trainers before backing away, finding Jake. Again, she felt the other girl's gaze settle upon her, and she glanced at her, frowning.
"Did you hear that?" Jade muttered, looking away. "Some bikers are blocking the route to get out of here. They're crushing bikes. Like, really?" All she could think of was that big, obnoxious lug getting in her way in front of the Pokecenter in Jubilife. And then she grinned sharply. "What do you say, then? Sounds like some good training for Gardenia, if you ask me."

Jasper stifled a yawn as they walked, easily nowhere near as enthusiastic as the younger trainer, Ben was. His day had already been quite busy, and now he had his next course of action to consider: should he head straight to Azalea Town and throw down a challenge to this Bugsy fella, or should he find some place (not crawling with angry, territorial Arbok) to do a bit more training? He thought of the odd disc-thing Bridget had given him; she'd said it could teach Aerial Ace to Croconaw. He also thought of the handsome sum of money he'd earned from the match, and his hometown of Goldenrod City, which wasn't an overly long bike ride from here. Perhaps he was overdue to head home and spend some of this cash before it burned a hole in his wallet.
It didn't take long for the two trainers to reach the area they'd used for a battlefield before, and Jasper stretched his arms over his head, looking on as Ben released his Pidgey. It looked like a spunky little thing, and he idly wondered just how strong it was in comparison to the birds he'd battled earlier, and as such, what Pokemon he should use against it. For a moment he almost considered sending out Ditto, but he dismissed that thought immediately. Paras wouldn't fare well against a flying type, even if he likely was a bit more experienced, and he knew without a doubt that Croconaw'd be too much for the little bird. Sending Zorua out for a second battle romp would likely be boring, so that left him with Koffing, and he quietly hoped the poison type wouldn't embarrass him as he released the Poison Gas Pokemon onto the field.
Koffing marked her entrance with hearty laughter, puffing out plenty of putrid smog with every chortle. "All right, time to get serious," he told the poison type, but he wasn't sure she was listening as she was still guffawing to herself over apparently nothing. Since he'd given Ben the first move last time, Jasper decided that it was his turn. 'Let's try something easy first,' he thought, nodding at the tiny bird. "Koffing, Tackle it!" he called, being sure to make his voice louder this time. Koffing blinked a few times as she was snapped out of her amusing reverie, and she shot toward the Pidgey with a surprising burst of speed. * * * * * * * * * * 'This isn't helpful,' Hayley thought, wearing an uncharacteristic frown as she read and reread her Pokedex's entry on the move Growth, finding that she hadn't been wrong in assuming it raised the user's attack and special attack. She peeked over the edge of the device at Kasiya, a little relieved to see that she was just as confused as Hayley. "I don't get it," she murmured, pressing the buttons of the PokeDex in an almost random fashion, but when she heard Kasiya give a command for Growl, she stopped. Despite his obvious displeasure, Alphonse let out a sharp little growl, which to Hayley and Ivy, wasn't as cute as they thought it'd be. The Snivy grit her teeth, her body starting to glow again with that harsh, angry red, but it quickly shifted to a bright green, and the little grass type stared on ahead in confusion - okay, how come she was feeling stronger again?
"It's like the stat-changing moves are backwards," the brunette said astutely, planting her hands on her hips. "But that doesn't make any sense! It's so random!" There was always the possibility of it having something to do with her ability, but by now Hayley knew that all the starting Pokemon of the same types had the same abilities - Torrent for water types, Blaze for fire types and Overgrow for grass types. Still quite perplexed, the girl went back to her Pokedex again. Yup, Snivy's ability was Overgrow, all right. But wait, what was this? A second entry? "Contrary," she read, her eyes lighting up with nothing less than utter and sheer delight. "Ivy's ability isn't Overgrow, it's Contrary!" she cried happily, more for having solved the mystery than anything else. "It reverses stat changes! Moves that raise stats actually lower them, while moves that normally lower stats raise them! This is so exciting! I didn't know the starter Pokemon could have different abilities!"
As her trainer prattled on and on about this new-found ability thing, Ivy shrugged, once again looking over at the Piplup. So, she had a special-special ability, did she? Well, she also had a pretty special move! The Snivy closed her eyes for a moment, composing herself before she looked back at Alphonse again, only this time her eyes were glowing with a fearsome, sinister look - what she hoped would become her trademark move: Glare.
