Nimmie new flutist with a question! How the heck to you slur? also... IOm having problems with my pitches...Any tips? Basically, slurring is just playing notes without tongueing all of them but just the first one. And as for the pitches, well i'm not that good at them either but i know that breathing exercises help a lot 3nodding

flauti we had 50 in our band, 12 flutes. we were incredibly top-heavy. Our wind ensemble was top-heavy this year - at the beginning of the year we had 10 flutes out of, oh, 26-ish people I think. Then a couple dropped/changed bands, and I switched to tenor, so we ended up with 7 out of 26 or whatever. Still, it was pretty crazy.

Nimmie new flutist with a question! How the heck to you slur? also... IOm having problems with my pitches...Any tips? Slurring is easy. Just tongue the first note and finger the rest of them without tonguing. As for pitches - long tones. Breathing exercises, too, but long tones are probably the most efficient. (Though it's hard to play long tones without breathing excercises, sooo....) Lip slurs, too. No, they're not only for brass! Say you want to do lip slurs on, oh, an E. Finger the lowest E (bottom line of the staff), then try and hit the E one octave above, then two octaves above, WITHOUT changing fingerings/tonguing. It's difficult, but possible, and it helps. You can do it with two octaves up to about Ab/A, and then it's really only possible with one octave.
