S'mol and Bronze Valseth

Valseth turned to the bubbling energy of Rosmeth with a small head bob.
No need to apologise, we are still waiting for many of our family to come in from the sands, I believe some have yet to even emerge from their egg.
He couldn't be sure but it was an easy fact to pick out listening to the weyrling assistants who talked constantly but quietly among themselves around the room as they assessed their new charges. They were going to have their hands full.
The bronze yawned and stretched slow and lazy once more. He could feel his skin growing tight in places and in time he would need an oil but that could wait. Their were still so many people and dragons to greet. He leaned forward and gave little Rosmeth a affectionate nose boop. Just for being so cute.

Leoniath was next to call his attention and Valseth looked over to the brown flaring his wings in turn as a way to mimic his cousins enthusiasm. Welcome to you as well good Cousin, though I feel we may as well be brothers.
Indeed the Bronze sensed somewhat of a kindred spirit in the brown. A Heroic romantic soul to match his own. A future true ally. So he made a special point of trotting up to S'yls, looking him up and down slowly and then giving a firm nod of approval. Oh yes,he's very fine. The bronze agreed solemnly.

Seeing where his dragons attention had been diverted to S'mol also walked over to S'yls and clapped him warmly across the back with a ham fist that was likely to set him stumbling forward. "Ah, no good to be hiding in the corner like that, You're a dragon rider now. And my Valseth says you're a good one. So no need ta be shy." He grinned happily. "Names Sul....S'mol."

Suddenly a green blue shot past followed by a blue one. And it was calling Valseth by name. But Valseth was not to be drawn into the game just now. A very enticing offer cousin Valseth called after the whizzing Metlath But my skin is getting tight and I will need an oil soon so I would provide very poor competition. But he did indulge in cheering the racers on for a few seconds, glancing around to see if anyone else would jump in.

Nimueh

Nimueh held Riz for as long as he needed, stroking a hand down his back which had been largely untouched by the ravaging green's claws. The temptation was there to pull him completely onto her lap and rock him till the numbweed over came him and he slept, but she resisted the urge. Mothering had always come naturally to the brown rider but Riz brought out those instincts in her much more powerfully than anyone she had treated in the past.

She sighed, somewhat thankful when Shar appeared and engaged the boy in conversation so he pulled away, regaining just a little bit of his light. As she listened she cast her eye out towards the sands with both the would be candidates. But as she had given over her previous post she had to rely on second hand accounts from her dragon Mharlith on his raised ledge.

"There is not just a bronze and a gold out there. On my dragons count there are 18 dragons, either on the sands or still in the egg so I believe you two arre forgetting yourselves as candidates." Nimueh cut in giving both Rizdax and Shar a hard look. "It is possibly my fault for indulging you Riz but you are both failing in your duty if you give into self pity just because you are not out their on the sands with your classmates. You are still suitable people or age. You need to be focusing your positive thoughts of welcome outwards. You might have been hurt but that is no excuse for spooking a baby because you are too focused on your own misery rather than their entrance into the world."

Rhys - HR

Honestly, he was tired, and his heart ached. His sister, he was so happy for her, but he'd hoped. He'd always hoped. Shaking his head, he pulled himself back in to a good mind, watching the twin bronzes, and then moving to stand by a young woman who looked....exhausted. "Hey....You okay?" The heat of the Sands could be rough on a body, especially when you weren't used to it. He? He'd adjusted to the heat rather quickly., "Need a hand?"

Do you take issue with my son's innocent play, Candidate Arcadin? Rhianth asked, her eyes whirling with irritable red hues. Perhaps my daughter is more to your liking, the Queen hissed. So saying, the Gold stroked an egg that had not yet hatched. Death Eater stirred again, and finally an enormous crack appeared upon its shell. The green baby who emerged flexed her claws, red eyes fixed on Arcadin.

Kinyegele

And that good reason to not stay where she'd been was now showing itself. Fortunately, she hadn't needed to see the red-eyed green to move and not caught up in whatever cause it had to hatch, Kinye was able to do the same thing she'd done with every angry dragon that spilled onto the sands: Absolutely adore her.

You're beautiful! Kinye thought affectionately, unaware that perhaps her inclination to think such sweetness would be frowned upon by some of the more fierce personalities out there. She still poured it out anyways.

----

Juhvek

Well there was a fierce dragon now wasn't she? Apparently someone had drawn the green's ire already, though that was only as far as one not allowed into a private mental conversation could guess. Or perhaps it was a reflection of the golden mother who watched over all of her eggs so.

Certainly, it was good to be reminded that there was still a potential for danger if one did not mind their thoughts.

Zyanzi could almost hear the candidate near him seeming to be less than enthused by the happy mood, but before he could chime in with a quip, he noticed not one dragon, but two, staring very clearly at the grumpy candidate. The mother dragon Rhianth was on the case. No need to get involved... Ah! Another egg hatching. And it was... An irritated green. Oh dear. Zyanzi swallowed, his sandals digging into the sand in case he needed to move.

Siv

Siv was just contented taking notes to prepare for ptroper non-sand notes later in her noitepads when she noticed Rhianth's eyes, and immediately straightened, wiping notes away quickly. They werte still in her mind, but now -- there was a rather unhappy gold again. While Siv was fairly sure she probably didn't do it, the timing with an egg hatching was....

This was a mix of intriguing and creepy. Inwardly she had toi applaud the moither and her green for whatever was going on. Eyes went red, and soon, egg popped open. It was oddly nostalgic of playing as a small girl, her father nearby -- the pair playing at being a tag team fighting bad people... Who were usually played by Papa, or Mama or Mommy. She felt a pang missing her family at that moment. One was watching standside sure, but... It wasn't all of them. Father was stuck home -- precious, wonderful father -- and whom knew where her mothers were. Still, Siv sighed a bit at the notion of her family not being together before, and rubbed her neck, looking down a bit.

The Sands were a terrible place to get homesick -- and she breathed, putting her big, cheery, friendly grin on her face for the hatchlings. Best foor forward!... If the darn thing wasn't needed to stand properly.

Amila and [color"jade"]green Matoath

"This is, er, Matoath." Amila said, shyly. Had she introduced her yet? She wasn't sure. Probably, but she wasn't sure how to answer at first, instead thinking a moment before smiling shyly.

"So... The babies. Do you think they'll seperate everyone by clutch or..."

Shewasn't sure how ro converse well, but she was trying, and Matoath fed her love and encouragement, the green watching Nanuth with a fond gaze before looking out to the Sands herself curiously. Oh, Auntie didn't seem happy, and briefly, pinpricks of yellow dotted her eyes before she turned her gazre to Nanuth.

Brother, what are you watching? Is there someone out there?[ Matoath asked, head tilting.

Martirae and Gold Anakumath

How wonderful, Ulendoth! She sounds like a perfect compliment to your own strength. She didn't know enough of the politics of Wingleaders and the like to have an opinion on it, though. But from the well of knowledge she could pull about the world from her beloved, it was enough to guess they would both know soon enough.

Looking up from the nearly dozing gold in her lap, Marty looked between both Iathe and Roana as they spoke. When Iathe's statement about strong greens trailed off, she couldn't help but look down at Anakumath - neither green nor strongly opinionated. Made of softness and a bountiful love. The gold lifted her head from Marty's knee, looking between both sister and cousin. What happened on the sands after we left? She'd certainly noticed that Skerath was injured, but both gold and rider had been well off the sands before disaster and death had struck.

Martirae's lips tightened at the reminder that her life hadn't just changed in the expected way - she would step from her tasks as a Candidate and into life as a Dragonrider - but the part of her heart that had waited for someone to come for her would now have to resettle in High Reaches. She would likely not see Western for some time. Coming and going was not something a Gold could simply do. "Of course. Stumbling in the dark is a good way to be taken advantage of," she answered.

arcadin

He considered queen and green and their red eyes alike, knowing at the back of his mind he was already in trouble no matter what; a reprimand would be in the future if he lived through this. Part of him wanted to just embrace the sunk-cost fallacy and go all the way, the same impulsive and mindless part that always wanted to follow the path of ruin. As if anyone here would honestly miss him if he lost. But then he remembered Gregor, and Arc might have felt shame if he had a grip on his emotions at all. He probably should have for irking one queen, possibly more. As it was, it made him pause in contemplation.

Positive thoughts, hmm? ...She looks like a fighter, he thought towards the pair without a trace of irony, as to him that was a compliment. That was good. There were too many dreamers in this bunch, it seemed. Only some of the greens had shown spine and mettle, and this one was no different.

He could at least appreciate that as his legs slid into a sturdier stance.

Rhiyn’s hand slipped from Demanthra’s. He took a breath and looked to her. “Standing here sulking isn’t doing me a bit of good, is it?” He looked around the sands to see if there was anyone he knew. Ticene had Impressed! Well! He’d always known she would. She was at the feeding station though, and he had a feeling a candidate wouldn’t be welcome there. He had a feeling Ticene would have made him march right back to the sands.

Was there any dragon for him? He took a step forward looked back at Demanthra. “I’m going to try,” he said. “Maybe one of those dragons are for me!” He had a chance anyway. There were a few left.

Ielin - High Reaches Candidate

The green hatching, red eyed and angry with Rhianth hovering had him tensing slightly. After so many angry babies, and a death on the sands, all he can hope for is there would be no more bloodshed -- yet, if a candidate had foolishly angered a baby.. Well, reactions tend to be justified. Ielin can only hope that things might settle for the best.

/ / / /

Tuelarua - High Reaches Candidate

She’d stayed remotely out of the way, and all for the better, it seems -- for impression after impression went by, and still so many eggs to hatch! Babies still on the sands. Yet her heart went out for the smaller of the two bronze twins, for they were siblings, twins, and should get along. They were unique, after all! Yet the forced head boop as the gold baby stared them down made her smile, if slightly. A start, but hopefully they would get along better down the road -- and for the smaller of bronzes to not hold himself at such an odd angle. For surely that couldn’t be good for him…

Dhawsn’s remarks had Tuelarua’s attention pulling away, just as she watched Rhianth touch the Death Eater egg, and it burst out with an angry green. “They are.. It’s both nice to see, yet I also hope they get along later.” Even so, she shifted quietly on the sands, the heat starting to get to her through the sandals.

Remember Me
Ah, but it was not the green who turned on the tall man with the wretched throughts. Instead, it was the golden queen. Insult, after insult...from not just this candidate but others as well. Some seemed bored, others restless, and a few seemed to have no interest in her clutchmates.

But they were all family and all Hers. Had she been hatched when that bronze had cracked shell, she would have forced him down. Her eyes flashed red and with a growl she turned on Arcadin. Her brothers were forgotten.... They were calm enough for now. But this one.... He might we'll be need to made an example of!

And what is wrong with dreamers, boy?! How dare you come and insult my family with your callousness! If it is blood you wish than let me grant you your dream, and give you something to think about!. She snarled and leapt. This devil boy and his casual coldness....she would not abide it. The gold made sure she harmed....but held herself in check enough not to main or kill. She pushed him to the ground, snapping at him, glaring down at him with irritation. It was not just Arcadin... He was taking the fall for all the ones that had nothing but a desire for more action and bloodshed.

She glared down at the boy, wings spread. Kindness, goodness, and compassion is what will save Pern from Thread and from one another. Now does anyone else have any criticisms?! Who else would rather see more innocent blood fall this day?!. The latter was asked to all the Candidates.

She had stayed her hand....mostly. Not out of cowardice but because even this one deserved a chance. If he wanted strength she would serve it to him...through her own restraint. She could and would punish but she would not kill. She was not like that bronze.

Surprise... So the little queen had some bite after all.

Before Death Eater stood a radiant goddess of perfection. Be still her beating hearts. Who was this avenging angel come from between to take her breath away?

My dearest cousin, you quite took the words out of my mouth. Along with the breath she'd stolen, no doubt. The Green was struck. Who was this bright star of purity and power?

Zyanzi

Oh, was he glad he had been at least a little prepared. Though the movement had not come from the direction he was expecting. Instead a golden streak leapt past him, latching to the grimacing candidate who had received the mother queen's ire. Now it was he who was receiving the small golden queen's punishment. Zyanzi stumbled back and found himself sitting in the sand with a hammering heart in his chest watching. Should he intervene? No, that would not do. Lest he receive a like punishment. Instead he swallowed, blinking quickly. "Beautiful little queen, oh he is not worth getting your claws dirty over..." he whispered, not daring to move closer. He'd already bled once today after all. But it did pain him to see someone else hurt...

Ielin - High Reaches Candidate

Ielin had considered moving off to find a few more candidates to converse with, to possibly make connections -- yet, he winces as the little golden queen had turned her angry sights onto the candidate that was likely the root of such anger in Death Eater. The blood once more on the sands, yet the boy isn’t dead. Yet Remember Me’s words hearten him some, for she had such a point. Kindness and compassion would save Pern, and he can’t help but to be a bit enamored by such a leader the little gold already was -- and one she would grow to be.

Even Death Eater had calmed some in the face of such a regal queen, and he can’t quite blame her.

Kinyegele

Fear jolted through the girl's heart as the young Queen jumped onto one of the boys who had apparently just thought a little too hard and too mean. Then again, they'd all been thinking too hard and too mean this entire time - even some of her best attempts had been spoiled by fear. Please don't hurt him anymore, Kinye couldn't bring herself to say it out loud. Would it be seen as rebellion to say it? Would one of those giant golden mothers look down at her with those red eyes of judgement if she dared?

Protect your devotion from his meanness - from all of our meanness, if there is more....but... she bit her lower lip. She didn't even know the half of it, she was sure. But Kinye wanted so badly for no more bloodshed. Even that of the small bronze behind his brother was getting to be too much.

----

Fahn

Fahn jumped when the gold baby pounced down one of the boys, eyes wide and her mouth a near perfect o. "Woah! That's gonna hurt in the...uh...afternoon..." she had been about to say 'morning', but it was morning right then - and everybody already hurt to some degree. Her head was ringing only a bit less, but....

She nudged Helane. "Fierce one! I like it!" she was a big sister, after all, and how could she not respect that sense of duty?

Revel1984

----

Juhvek

All these fine dragons and people kept setting them off. But the fierce hatchling wasn't there to be a savage. She reminded him of....well...Fianth, when everybody had made the mistake of punching one of her eggs. Full of kindness, but also ready to back that kindness up with force.

Two new queens would join High Reaches that day. Clearly, with attitude like this? The Weyr would be better for it.

----

Kahbrohm

He looked at his brother, then at the gold with a frown. Kahbrohm clearly wasn't helping, but he hadn't the preference for bloodshed. At least, not when it wasn't his own. Certainly, there was a sarcastic answer he could have given, but it didn't seem like a good time for it. He'd tested his luck with one unimpressed (UnImpressed, more like) dragonet and it hadn't fared well.

Little Remember Me could win this arguement, because the sentiment was good, at least.
