Pirate Dirge Had our first ultra sound today: everything is looking good and as it should. Baby wanted to stay on their stomach though so we couldn't get a good capture of the heart nor a super close look at the gender, so we'll be back in two weeks to try again. ninja What we did see though looked very very much like girl parts. Aww, I wanted a girl but the look on my fiance's face when he heard it was a boy was just perfect.

Kawaii Hime Koneko-Chan Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... How is everyone doing? How far along is everyone? Also, is anyone working on a nursery yet? ... He's bringing me a boy I just realized that I missed this question the last time I was in here. sweatdrop We didn't have a nursery with Ethan and won't with this next one either. For the first however many months, the crib will be in our room and we'll give the baby their own when it ceases to work out. With Ethan, it was around 8 months when he suddenly realized that he had a captive audience and started refusing to sleep at night to sing to us and wanted to play constantly.

Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... @Pirate Dirge: I'm not doing a nursry either since I'm living with my parents, plus I don't trust having a baby in his own room. I'm afraid my family might try playing with him, or my little sister, and hurt him... they aren't very good with babies at all sweatdrop *rubs head from being dropped to much as a baby* I hope I'll be able to get the items I need for the room and soon because I have no money and only a crib without a mattress or bedding gonk I also still need to talk to my boyfriend about planning for the baby and all the choices we have to make, and even more choices since it's a boy.
Does anyone know any sites, organizations, or anything that I can get free samples, newsletters, coupons, magazines, or items from? Even discount store chains would help. I'm in a really really tight financial spot, and the biggest problem with that is since I live with my parents, who have a lot of money, I can't qualify for WIC or any of the other low income programs crying But my family wont help pay for anything as well, so it makes it double worse. Also, does anyone know if my boyfriend can get health insurance for our baby because I'm to young to and my family refuses unless I don't let Kurt (boyfriend) sign the birth certificate or let the baby take his last name, neglect him from seeing the baby, etc. ... He's bringing me a boy

Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... I didn't get the baby shower I wanted yet, but my little sister and my dad bought some baby items for me while they were out shopping today biggrin My little sister bought me a cute diaper bag, some latex-free bottles w/ bottle brush (hooray!), a set of bibs, and some binkies. My dad got me a breast pump, thank god since they cost so much. I might have to return the binkies though because both me and my boyfriend are allergic to laytex and I don't want to risk it with the baby. ... He's bringing me a boy

I think all states offer a healthcare program for infants and small children, that would be something for him to check out.
For coupons, you can register at diaper company sites like Pampers or Huggies and they'll send you coupons a couple of times a year. Same with baby food companies. If you check the Sunday newspaper, there are often diaper coupons in there as well. Every first Sunday of the month, Procter and Gamble do the "P&G" saver and there is almost always a Pampers coupon in there.

Check the pacifiers, I know there are some nonlatex ones out there.
As for assistance, there should be some type of medical assistance to children, but like Dirge says, varies by state. Have your boyfriend talk to a representative or agency in his area.
As for the mattress. It's okay to not have that right away. I know a ton of moms whose babies slept in bassinets, their bed, heck even car seat carriers for a few weeks.
If you're really in a pinch, cloth diapers, making your own wipes, buying used are some ways to save money. Craigslist is a GREAT place to find good quality stuff for cheaper. Freecycle is a site where people trade/request items--totally free. Can't hurt to ask.
Good website: http://www.babycenter.com/0_the-babycenter-7-top-baby-costs-and-how-to-save_1744464.bc
I'm glad to hear your parents are buying stuff for him.

Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... Thanks for the help! biggrin Not having a mattress would be okay if I had one of those other things to let him sleep in... sweatdrop I kinda of only have a crib comming and some small items, no car seat or anything else yet. I'm also scared of rolling over on him so I don't want to sleep with him. I know I don't roll much, but I'm afraid I just might and end up smothering him.
I don't think I'll do cloth diapers, a little to much cleaning to do whee I'm trying to find a consignment store or two around here, but everytime I have the time to go to one, it's closed right before I get there sweatdrop ... He's bringing me a boy

Just a headsup, a carseat needs to be a priority over a lot of things. If anyone asks you what you need, state that. They don't have to buy it, but if they offer, recommend GC to the same place. Most hospitals nowadays will not let you leave with your newborn without showing the baby properly latched into his carrier/carseat. You'll want one with an adjustable strap in the front that is easily accessible and rear facing. Good website: http://www.carseatdata.org/They can be expensive, but very important. Do NOT buy them secondhand, you just never know the history of a carseat. Also, look for a CPS tech in your area: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CPSFitting/index.cfmThey can make sure it's properly installed, cause those devils can be hard to install sometimes! They also can give recommendations on carseats. If you need more information, let me know. As for the mattress, you can also just make a pallete on the floor. I never got those tummy time mats, just put some blankets (which people gave me a ton) down, voila, place for the wee one. www.freecycle.org/ http://www.craigslist.orgYeah, sometimes the secondhand stores have the weirdest hours. xp Is there a goodwill, salvation army in your area? My mother often got the cutest clothes, all they needed was a good washing.

Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... I just got a travel set today, carseat and stroller, for a very nice price. I also started putting together the crib set, which is a tiny bit hard, but it's mostly done now. Thank you for the carseat sites, I'll deffinitly have to check them out. I found a $50 mattress today as well, but I didn't have the money on hand so I decided I'll go back and get it later. I also need a crib bed set with bumpers and such.
We do not have a goodwill anywhere around here that I have seen or a salvation army, we do have very pricy consignment stores though xp I'll more than likely get some toys and a bouncy seat from there if I can find one for a reasonable price.
My boyfriend's grandma offered me $100 today if I let her cut his hair. I was shocked because she knows how much I love his hair and how attached I am to it. I needed the money though, and Kurt (boyfriend) told me to go for it because he wants to help out the best he can. I just hope she doesn't cut it to short gonk At least I'll have money now for the crib bed set and maybe a few extra dollars left over to save for the mattress.
I've heard of craiglist before, but I had no clue what it was. Also, secondhand stores do have weird hours. The one near us, I don't really remember the name, but it's not open on Sundays or Wednesdays, and it's only open 10-5 the rest of the time except Saturday which it's only open 10-3 which is screwy for me and pretty much anyone who has a job here xp
Edit: Oh my! Craiglist is like a sale thing and more... I just missed a bag of baby boy clothing in Mint Hill (town 5 miles away from here) that went yesterday. I'll keep my eye on this to see if I can find any other free things because people are giving away cribs and a lot more in my area surprised ... He's bringing me a boy

Crib bedding sets are really not necessary. All you really need is the crib sheet. For Zoe, that's all I bought. Bumpers aren't really recommended any more and the quilt that comes with the sets aren't very useful either. Buying just the sheet can save you alot of money.

Just sitting and waiting for the Stork... @ kmaritza: I'm just going to go by what my parenting books say and get bumpers so there isn't any space for the baby to get a hand or leg caught.
@ Pirate Dirge: You're very lucky you get so many ultrasounds, they're rather expensive and insurance usually doesn't cover them. I only got one because I had to pay in full for it (about $300). The 4D ones scare me a bit sweatdrop ... He's bringing me a boy

Kawaii, if you do get bumper pads, make sure that they aren't really puffy and fluffy. I know there are some out there that are made to be more "breathable" with different fillings. In my experience the first time with them, they were more of a pain then anything else; Ethan kept smooshing them down and flattening them, thus negating any benefit they may have had.
I'm surprised your insurance didn't cover the one, I had read that most insurance will cover a single one but after that they don't unless they're medically necessary--though quite a few ladies in here have mentioned that in their practices they went to do two as standard now. I know years ago they wouldn't because it wasn't common practice to even have one unless it was suspected that something was wrong with your pregnancy.
I would not have had two in the last two weeks had it not been for the fact that the first time they couldn't get a good capture on the heart so it was deemed that I needed another. This time we wouldn't have gotten it either if the technician didn't decide to flip me on my side and try that way. The 28 week one was a total surprise to me since my OB hadn't mentioned it when she gave me the rundown of what they do in her practice. I had noticed all the 4d images of babies with their birth photos and asked where they were done and was told it was a normal practice for them and that insurance covers it. I'm pretty excited to see my baby's real face rather then the more skeletal 2d shots I have now.

I'm honestly shocked too, so many things can be ruled out by just one ultrasound.
There's nothing scary about 4D. I did some work for a sonographer/radiologist, trying to get into school for the same myself, and even had a level 2 ultrasound by a doctor who specializes in prenatal health (forget the term, long story). 2D is standard b/w, 3D/4D is really the same thing, just 4D is in motion.
The only reason I got a 3/4D is because I did the work for that sonographer. Really crazy how amazing they look.
On the bumpers, ours pretty much fell apart anyways. xp
