( 'Course - he'll probably go to his room after Chris goes to the hospital or a doctor of some sort.
Its going to be fun to make him be all pissed 83 )

Kahlilia smiled a little in return, shaking her head at Roman's question. Her parents had a hard time with fertility, as they often told her, and she was finally born when her father was forty and her mother was thirty-eight, which meant, by their accords, that they'd been trying for a little more than five years.
"You're our little miracle," Her mother would say to her and proceed to tell her the extent of the story any time she asked about her childhood. She never did mind, it was interesting listening to stories like that, but if it became an everyday overprotective sort of thing she wasn't happy. She could never be cooped up somewhere, whether it was inside or outside. She was too independent ... but then why did it feel like something was slowly starting to hamper it?

Turning a little shy suddenly, she nodded and smiled lightly.
Sure, she said softly, Maybe later.
Even though her 'maybe later' was supposed to come out as a simple suggestion, it actually came out sounding more like a question. Even though she was bothered a little bit by that, she seemed to shrug it off and look back towards the stream subconsciously.
Benvolio took advantage of her tranquil state and started to shake out his mane on her lap, either showing off or showing yet another sign of growing impatience. The girl simply stifled a giggle.

Thinking about his question for a few seconds, she finally shrugged casually.
Maybe we could see which one shes more comfortable with first, and then try? She wasn't sure how Ariel was going to react to halters, and hoped she wouldn't freak out, because she knew that would upset her mother and cause a lot of trouble.
She looked over briefly and also nudged Ben into turning towards the direction of the barn. She wondered how the two stallions were going to react to seeing Ariel.

( Hello Misery 83 - squeeze -

Not much -

According to EquineEquus and I, Keith and Emily are in the barn getting ready to ride (?)

Roman and Kahlilia are still by the stream, but they're getting ready to see how Ariel reacts to a halter back in the barn.

Esmeralda is still coming and going, riding around and things like that.

Summer, Xavier, Chris, Shannon, and Nanina are still at the very same spot.
After Chris goes to a doctor, I'm going to make Xavier go back to his room and blow up because he'll finally see the trick Chris, Esmeralda, and Kahlilia pulled on him. )

Roman nodded slowly, feeling a bit sorry for her. He couldn't imagine what his life would have been like without Esmeralda. His sister was one of the most important people in the world to him. Had her parents not wanted any more, or had they just not been able to have any? Although he wondered, he knew better than to ask. That sort of thing was personal, and often painful.

His smile appeared again, however, when she agreed to take a look at the pictures later. He noticed her strange, questioning way of suggesting it, but didn't question it. There was probably a reason behind it. And if not, well, it wasn't a big deal. His smile changed to a slow grin when Benvolio shook out his mane on her. "He looks much too big for you," he murmured aloud, thinking as he spoke instead of before it.

"Well, she'll have to learn to deal with a halter eventually," he said at last, with a decisive nod. "She'll have to figure it out, of course. But I think you've got the right idea - we don't want to terrify her on her first time out with her mom."

((Lovely.))

Shannon motioned for every one to follow her. "Which one of you wants to go to the hospital?" Dark gray eyes peered at the teenagers, and worry marred her brow. "I'm so getting sued." She whispered as she turned away and slipped into the drivers seat.

Nanina looked at Chris, then to Summer. "You probably should, since he is your brother and all." She twisted her hat in nervous circles in her hands.

Keith finshed saddling B and he looked at Emily. "Are you ready, my fair lady?"
PostPosted: Wed Aug 05, 2009 9:59 pm

" yes I am my prince charming" She replied kicking Apollo into a trot down the road.
The cool breeze was rewarding since the stable was making her sweat from the humidity. Plus it was a good idea to give the horses excercise;she didn't need apollo getting fat on her. Emily looked behind her and blew a kiss at Keith.

Kahlilia giggled when she was reminded of the immense size difference between herself and Ben. Shrugging casually, she giggled again and said, I know. I don't think I realized how small I am compared to him until after I was assigned and I started working with him. Compared to her five foot one height and Benvolio's ... tall ... height, the size difference was instantly visible to anyone except for the girl herself.

Do you think that Ariel may think we're some sort of extra parents? Kahlilia asked, a playful smile brightening her face. She was thinking out loud again - it was true that Ariel did seem to have put trust in them, and Kelly wasn't showing any signs of opression. That was great, and she could only hope that the foal's mother wouldn't suddenly have a change in personality.
For that matter, what would Phoenix do if he saw his little baby walking around for the first time?

After Kahlilia made a clicking sound at Ben, he trotted off towards the barn happily, a contradiction to his previous impatience. Well, it was probably because he didn't like staying in one place and had to be moving constantly. She remembered how Roman had called him a rocket and now agreed fully with it, laughing a little deep in the back of her mind.
As she thought, Ben continued to trot at a pace that was closer to a gallop than it was to a walk. Maybe he too was excited to see the others.

Xavier shifted from foot to foot nervously as a threatened raptor might have, hands in his pockets and his gaze at his feet. He only looked up upon hearing Shannon's question, and even that was only halfway. In response, he shook his head and added slowly, I agree with Nani ... I guess I can stay here and keep you informed? The second half of his sentence held wavering cheerfulness, even though with a voice as deep as his was it wasn't extremely audible. Nevertheless, it was there.
He took Summer's hand lightly and kissed her cheek. He would have asked if either one of the siblings were going to be alright, but no way did he want to sound desperate or pleading. His pride was far too strong, for now at least. He had yet to wander into his room.

Looking around wordlessly at the other four around him, he started when Lady nudged his shoulder. Sudden realization came upon him - oh, yeah, we were out riding ... hur hur. -

I can take your horses back right now. He said as Lady continued to nudge at him, wanting to get rid of the empty and somehow desperate, pleading feeling inside of him.

((OOC: That reminds me of me and the horses I ride. XD I'm five-two AND A HALF (I fight to count that half), and they're all huge.))

Roman chuckled. "Have you actually tried measuring him?" he asked. "I'd say he's got to be at least seventeen hands, myself - he's huge. I measured Phoenix at one point - he's seventeen three, and Ben's not much smaller." With a teasing grin, he added, "But that must be fun. You'd feel like you were flying with that sudden a height change."

When Kahlilia mentioned Ariel, however, a softness came over his face - of the kind associated with a father speaking of his own children. "I hope so," he murmured. "I wouldn't mind being a surrogate daddy for her. She's adorable." He lapsed into silence for a few minutes, thinking. The filly was special; he'd known it from the first time he'd seen her wobbling on her own legs. He wondered what use Shannon would find for Ariel. That brought a worrying thought to mind. "What if she grows up like her father?" he wondered aloud. "We know what happened to Phoenix when he was too stubborn to show anyone how special he is. I don't want Ariel stuck in some field as a broodmare for the rest of her life."

Phoenix shook his head and snorted, making Roman smile wryly. "Yeah, we're talking about you. Don't let it go to your head. Come on, boy." He let Phoenix stretch out his stride until he was moving easily alongside Ben. The big horse turned his head slightly to eye Roman until the boy loosened the reins and allowed him to stretch his neck and move freely.

"No that's ok, Nanina you can go with him otherwise you'll be here worrying over him for nothing. My brother will be ok, I'm going to stay here, and just ride until my nerves calm down," Summer said as she walked over to Shadow and took the horses reins. "Plus I think my brother wants you to go with him anyway."

"Yeah my sister doesn't like hospitals anyway," Chris said as he sat in the front seat of Shannon's truck. "Well better get this show on the rode." His head then fell back against the seat as though he were going to go to sleep though at the moment he was only resting his eyes and holding his broke arm with the other. Thunder walked over to were Shadow was and Summer grabbed his reins.

"I'll see everyone when they get back," Summer shouted as she galloped off leading Thunder behind her. She didn't really wait for anyone to say anything to her she just rushed off.

( OOC // I'm going to post Xavier's reactions and imminent response to his room in my next post. I want to make it up to you - Silent - by making his explosion detailed. I don't know why I'm having so much fun with it, but I really am. )

Kahlilia didn't conceal her gasp when Roman told her of Phoenix's height and Benvolio's presumed. At first, she was pushed by impulse to give him an incredulous look, but she shook it off in a second and just smiled. Suddenly, she remembered when Roman had first rode Phoenix. He had said he felt as though he were up high, and the boy beside her was very likely to be a foot taller than she was. How many hands was a foot, again?
Shrugging at his teasing remark to her, she kept her smile despite herself. Someday, she told herself, she would try to ride Phoenix. Currently, she was hoping he wasn't going to remember her as 'The girl with that scary hose.'

Kahlilia looked over briefly and saw the sudden softness in his eyes as she slowed Benvolio to a saunter. She knew she had softened too now and it felt like they really were some sort of parents for a few seconds. Just a few seconds, maybe a minute, maybe an hour, maybe a month or two ...

When Roman was silent, she subconsciously looked at Phoenix. There was quite obviously resemblances between father and daughter, although in truth Ariel bore more resemblance to her dapple gray mother. Once she caught herself, however, she blushed and stroked Ben's mane. This earned a snort from him, either some sort of 'Right there' encouragement or a reminder that they still had to go to the barn to see the filly in question. Kahlilia's response was to pat his neck gently.
In the back of her mind, now that she thought about it, she did feel like a second mother of some sort. Experiencing her birth had been incredible from the moment she had calmed enough to be laughing and joyful, she knew that somehow, she and Roman both had experienced something truly special. There had been something magic that just ...

She looked up when she heard Phoenix snort and blushed when she realized that yes, it was true that they did in fact have to go to the barn.
Answering his previous question, Kahlilia said,
Maybe Phoenix was independent since the moment he was born. We'll never really know for sure, but it sounds like hes been the way he is - on the outside - for a long time. I really don't think Ariel will follow in that way, because its obvious that she bathes in our attention and practically runs to us whenever we come in. You know what we can do, is get someone else more familiar to the ranch to interact with her. Since shes still an infant, she has a lot of bonding to do. So even in the end of the summer, we won't feel as heartbroken when we end up leaving.Kahlilia realized she was rambling and flushed quickly, gaze downward until she was able to regain her usual creamy colors. Then she continued, Heck, I'm already wishing I could live here or something ... I love the country ... I'm still amazed that you and I got to experience Ariel's birth and now we're like third and fourth parents.
She was already giggling when she said the words 'third and fourth parents' but now she was giggling even more when Roman told Phoenix they were indeed talking about him. She actually was very amused and lighthearted towards the fact that both their stallions, in fact, acted like children given the opportunity.

She looked towards the barn. How far away had the stream been? A mile or two? It appeared they were now a quarter mile from the barn. How did that stuff work?
So, Kahlilia said with a playful smile, Do you want to see Ariel?

Xavier just nodded, not moving from his current spot even though he had said he would have taken the horses back. Feeling frozen, feeling guilty ... of what?
Chris, its not bed time. Realizing he was closing his eyes, Xavier decided to joke with the other boy to hopefully calm the sudden tense mood. Even so, he still felt tense himself.
Frozen. Guilty. Denying.

He was looking blankly at Shannon and Chris with his head tilted to the side slightly when Summer rushed off. At her obvious rushing, he tensed a little more, but then realized she was just facing sisterly grief. Not knowing what it was like to be a sister, he decided she should spend some time on her own. Besides, he was starting to get sleepy ...

I'm going to take Lady here back to the barn, Xavier informed the three others around him. Behave yourself, ya hear? He was pulling another joke on Chris, this one more of a paternal mock. When dealing with concussions and severe illnesses, his automatic thought would be that people slept a lot and didn't really have any behavior to speak of directly. However, better safe than sorry. And don't you ever eat hospital mystery meat. Just don't. Forcing a deep chuckle that sounded like a husky growl, Xavier mounted Lady again and went off towards the barn.

Lady was stubborn going back to the stables, having stood around, so Xavier set her free in a protected paddock of sorts.

( OOC // Or just free to run around, in a way. Theres probably a fence surronding the property, heh. )

Deep down, he knew that Starr Ranch's horses would never run away for good being as tame as they were. With that thought generating through his mind, he walked peacefully back to his room. Thankfully, he remembered where it was this time.

When he fished the key from his jeans pocket and opened the door, he coughed and then sneezed a second later from the sudden smell. Walking in so that he was now in the middle of the room, he coughed again as the acrid smell grew stronger and stronger. Where the hell was it coming from?

Did someone eat too many burritos last night? God!

His joking mood faded away in a second and melted into pure anger when he lifted up the blanket-quilt to inspect. Neatly piled, very deliberate, slowly packed, there it was.

The scream-roar of anger ripped through his throat before he realized that he was in fact making that strange noise. It was extremely loud and very long, throwing together every single swear in every single word, every single language, in a wordless fury.

Anything frozen he had felt was completely gone. To say the least, it 'melted' away. Hur hur hur, bad pun. Fire and ice.

Finally, words emerged. Only three, but a powerful trio they were.

WHAT THE F -- K ?!

Door now closed from his slamming of it, something about it seemed to mock him. Some intruder, some b*****d, had came into his room sometime yesterday and sabotaged it. No, not sabotaged. Terrorized.
Even as he emitted another horrifying roar as a big cat would, he racked his mind for suspects. Nanina was crossed off the list because he had seen her all day, along with Chris and Summer. They were certainly not guilty, they would have spilled the beans by now. Unless those two girls had major freaking balls.

Then he remembered the food fight. That third boy, teaming with the two girls that were sitting by and across from him last night. Yes, they could have teamed up. It was a sure fire possibility. It was them!
Those little assholes sure knew how to put up a fight, but he would make sure he topped what they did. He would confront all three of them, one by one, and give them each punishment.
Punishment in his terms meant beating up until the point of bloodshed.
In his raging moods, Xavier could really be capable of becoming dangerous, even to a point of murder ... strangulation, drowning, to get his hands on the runt of the bunch. What was her name again ...
Why the hell where those images popping in his mind like newborn daises? Was he really some sick pervert?

He shook off his conscience angrily as he stayed in his room until he got the extent of his anger out. That took an hour, quite possibly more. Chris was probably long gone with Nanina and he had no idea where Summer was now.
Where were the Three Musketeers?
He hadn't seen them since the food fight. Although he was assured of their appearances, such as general height and genetic looks, he was not assured of their location.
He had to find them now.
And give them what they deserved.

((OOC: LOL. I am so happy now. Thank you, Infinity! heart ))

Esmeralda had taken Sahara around the entire area of the ranch, and was feeling quite satisfied that she had regained her confidence in the lovely mare. "We're going to have some good times this summer, aren't we, baby?" she murmured, leaning forward to stroke the horse's neck. She frowned, feeling how warm the mare was. It was time to slow down, she decided. She would cut across through the cabin area to get to the barn more quickly, and let Sahara rest. Slowing the horse to a gentle walk, she let the mare stretch her neck out.

It was rather unfortunate that she happened to be going through the cabin area at roughly the same time as Xavier was discovering the mess in his room. The screaming growl coming from in there made her lift a brow until she realized that he had only just found the present she, Lily and Chris had left him. Sahara glanced towards the barn, looking startled, but calmed under Esmeralda's stroking hand. "It's all right, girl," the dark-haired girl soothed. "Walk on."

~

Roman grinned at Kahlilia's reaction. "A hand is about four inches," he murmured, correctly guessing what she was trying to figure out. "So for every foot, that's three hands." Thinking it through, he murmured, "So for seventeen hands, he would be...about five foot eight or so from ground to withers. Big boy, as I say."

Phoenix glanced over sleepily when Kahlilia looked at him, and shook his head, letting his mane fly around. "That's possible," mused Roman, apparently unaware of his horse's antics. "But he's so affectionate now that we've started work with him. I just can't picture him being standoffish as a foal. Maybe he had some hard times as a baby, before Shannon got him." Only somewhat satisfied with that explanation, he nodded slowly. "Well, we shouldn't introduce too many people to her," he said firmly. "She needs to remember that she's a horse, not a human. She'll need her own herd. It's a good idea, but we should start slow, I think."

When she asked her question, however, he laughed aloud. "I'd love to. We'll put the boys in the paddock, and then we'll go get Kelly and Ariel. Okay?"

( OOC // No problem xD )

Once again, Kahlilia seemed astounded by the information Roman was giving her. Although very aware that some horses came close to or actually were six feet tall, she was still intruiged by it.

The girl thought about that, nodding in understanding to Roman's statement.
That could be true. She replied, wondering who Phoenix's parents were. On that thought, how old was he? He looked to be around the same age as Benvolio, but she couldn't pinpoint a certain number. Maybe she would ask later. She began to giggle when Phoenix shook his mane out and Ben did the same a few seconds later. Was it a way of showing off?

Still holding a motherly look in her eyes, she thought about Ariel again. There was no way she would want to overwhelm the filly or scare her, because she knew firsthand such a thing could break a bond in a second. When the word 'herd' was mentioned she wondered for a second which horses, present or future, Ariel would want to have with her. However, she shook it off - Ariel was a little too young to be starting a herd on her own right now. They would give her time, that was what she needed right now.

Once set into the paddock, Benvolio galloped towards a snow white mare grazing in a corner. Lily had dismounted and took of Ben's equipment so that she was holding it securley. Although the stallion had nudged her for a while before going away, he did seem happy to explore on his own.
Looking at the mare, Lady, she began to vaguely remember the person she had been assigned to - Xavier. They had been too far away to hear his outrage, but once she thought about it she was grateful for their timing. However, her thoughts averted from the intimidating man to the horses in the paddock quickly when Lady rejected Ben with a snorting noise. Thus, the crestfallen stallion went to the other side and grazed with an occasional look back at her. Kahlilia was trying to stifle laughter as she murmured something similiar to 'Maybe next time,' to him. Benvolio snorted. He didn't want to be around females now , and that just made Kahlilia grin.
She was still trying not to laugh when she looked back up at Roman with gleaming eyes and said,
Shall we go then?

Summer after having put Thunder in the barn was riding Shadow heading in whatever direction she decided to go at the time. She was trying to make her mind a blank and not think of how badly hurt Chris was or what kind of torture he was enduring at the hands of the people in the hospital. Instead she thought about how uncomfortable Xavier had looked around her brother not sure what to make of it, but she was sure that something had transpired between her brother and her boyfriend. I hope Xavier is not having second thoughts about being my boyfried. She thought to herself as she rode silently along. She then noticed the birds going to and from nests which held baby birds. She listened to there singing which manage to lift her spirits but not enough to make her forget the way her brother looked when she saw him. She knew that would be an image that haunted her for the rest of her life. After about an hour of riding she heard what sounded like someone screaming in anger and wondered what had caused it. She thought she recogized the voice but couldn't be sure that she did so she galloped back to the ranch and then turned Shadow loose, after taking off her saddle and reins, in front of the ranch house sure that the horse wouldn't go very far. She then walked around to where the boys rooms where and thought she smelled something fowl in the air. She located Xavier's door and knocked on it softly at first and then a little harder to make sure it was heard. She didn't want to barge in on him if it was he whom she had heard scearm, yell, shout whatever it was that she had heard. She wanted outside his door calmly and thought she'd ask him why he seemed so uncomfortable after she left to get Shannon. I hope he doesn't feel guilty about anything we've done because I sure don't in fact I enjoyed what transpired between us. She thought to herself as she waited for Xavier to open the door, hoping that he would anyway.

Chris just nodded at Xavier and smiled and said, "Don't worry I won't."

((OOC: I just had a thought. Would they really keep the stallions in the same paddock as the mares? O.o That could result in some problems.))

Roman had eventually calculated that that meant Phoenix was nearly six feet tall at the withers, and felt slightly disturbed. Maybe he should rethink his offer to let Kahlilia ride - not only was Phoenix almost a foot taller than she was at the withers, but he also had the tendency to get excited sometimes, and even Roman had a hard time holding him back. Like with the jumps earlier. Well, he decided, as long as they stayed on flat it ought to be all right - and he thought he would be able to make Phoenix obey him from the ground if he had to.

"I figure humans would have been the ones to make it hard on him," explained Roman after a moment, "which is why I want to be really careful with Ariel." He ran one hand over Phoenix's neck while he thought. "Much as I love him, I don't want Ariel to end up like Phoenix. She might not have anyone to intervene for her."

Once he saw the look in Kahlilia's eyes, Roman, too, wondered what kind of herd Ariel might eventually end up in. "I think she'll probably lead her own, once she's a big girl," he said. "She seems very independent - last time I looked in on her, she was already walking away from her mother to check things out. But for now, she'll probably stay with her mother's herd."

A white mare caught Roman's eye as Kahlilia let her horse into one of the paddocks. Hastily, he dismounted and took a firm hold on Phoenix's reins - his horse was eyeing the mare with far too much interest for his comfort. "No, boy," he told the stallion. "I think you have to come on a walk with us until the rider of that horse comes to put her in the right paddock." Glancing at Kahlilia, he smiled and shrugged sheepishly. "If Shannon uses him for breeding, I don't want to be the one to explain to her why he's not mating with the mare she chose," he said lightly.

Leading Phoenix away from the paddock, he nodded to Kahlilia's question.
"Let's go. And you know, I think I'll take Phoenix along. Maybe Ariel should get used to being bossed around by her father until she's big enough to have her own herd."
