The girls turned their Pokeballs containing Cupcake and Regal over to Nurse Joy, and sat on a bench near the front desk.
"So?" Sabrina asked as Anna hovered near Nina, "What's your plan for Chuck? You already know he has Fighting-type Pokemon." Nina bit her lip a little. "Yeah. I'm aware. I know that his two Pokemon are Primeape and Poliwhirl, so I can't use Angel, Mihoshi, or Kuma. With my luck the Poliwhirl will have the Water Absorb ability, so that eliminates Cupcake, too..." She let out a sigh and looked to Anna. "I can't expect you to take down the both of them... Knowing Chuck, both of his Pokemon will have a massive amount of Fighting-type moves, which means that Primeape won't even be able to touch you."
"Yes," Anna replied, "but they may have been taught TMs. However, Whitney's Pokemon didn't know any..." Nina sighed, and Sabrina didn't have to be psychic to tell that her sister was worried.
"Nina," Sabrina said, "I can see that you have a problem at hand, so..." She let out a little sigh. "I'm willing to lend you one of my Pokemon for the fight."
Nina's eyes got big and she gave her sister a hug. "Sabrina! You're amazing!" Her face beamed with a smile, and eventually she let go of her sister.
Sabrina cleared her throat a little. "If you want, you may use Mimien to help you." Nina looked a little disappointed. "Aww... can't I see what other Pokemon you have?" Sabrina shook her head. "Nope, not until I need to use them myself." Nina shrugged a little. "All right. I very much appreciate you doing this for me."
Sabrina smiled, and handed Mimien's Pokeball to Nina. "He won't let you down," she said with a wink. A few minutes later, Nurse Joy handed back Cupcake and Regal's Pokeballs, and Nina headed toward the door.
"Aren't you coming?" she asked Sabrina, who had wandered over to the PC. "Yeah," Sabrina replied, "I just need to make a quick deposit." She put one of her Pokeballs in a slot on a tray that the PC had, and a few moments later it dematerialized; Sabrina then went back to her sister.
"Who'd you put away?" Nina asked. Sabrina replied, "Giovanni's Persian. It'll be a lot safer in there than with us."
Nina nodded. "Good thinking." The girls then departed the center, and headed for the gym. Mihoshi chirped away, and Anna was by Nina's side, more than ready to battle.

"Thank you, Mike," she said. "Thank you for everything. For just being there when I needed someone to talk to. Not too many people are willing to listen to some girl ramble on about how bad her day was." She chuckled. "You're a good friend." She took a step towards him, but stopped, as a faint whirring sound could be heard. Shocker and Seto both leapt up, suddenly alert. Growly's ears went flat against his head, and he started to growl slighlty. "Do you hear that?" she asked, feeling the colour drain from her face.

"Uh...yes, I did, GUYS!" At that moment, All Mike's Pokemon surrounded him. "Guard Duty, stay alert, just like we practiced!" Stepping in front of Kasiya and holding his arms a little above his waist, Mike stood in a defensive stance as he looked around for the source of the noise.

Kasiya looked around in all directions, as the noise grew louder. "It somehow sounds familiar," she said, raising her voice over the sound. "There!" she cried suddently, pointing to the tree line. A helicopter was just visible, and it was coming towards them.

Kilik yawned as he continued to sit on the couch, listening to his CD player. Nurse Joy tapped him on the shoulder. "Well, your Pokemon look just as healthy as ever, Kilik," she whispered. Flareon strolled over to him and sat on the floor. Koffing sat on the couch next to him, a smile spreading across its face.
"Thank you, Joy..." Kilik replied, trying not to yell over his music.

Arriving at the gym, Nina released Cupcake when she saw the amount of boulders that needed to be used. "All right, Cupcake, use your new Strength attack on those boulders! Clear them out of the way for us!" Cupcake nodded and replied, "Zurill!" before waddling toward them and punching them out of the way.
"I kind of feel dumb," Nina said to Sabrina, "because when I think about it, I could have just moved them out of the way only by lifting a finger..." Sabrina grinned. "I was wondering when that would occur to you." Nina grinned as her reply, and then watched Cupcake punching the last few boulders out of the way. "Hm," she said, "that's not too shabby." Nina approached Cupcake when it had finished, and recalled it into its Pokeball. Walking into the next room which was the battling arena, Nina found the gym leader.
"Chuck!" Nina said, "I've come to challenge you for a Storm Badge!" The buff gymed leader laughed. "All right kid, but don't you start crying when I beat you!"
Nina grinned. "The last person who said that to me had ended up crying, herself."
Directed by a referee, Nina and Chuck took opposite sides on the arena as he announced the rules. "You are each allowed the use of two Pokemon. The challenger may change her Pokemon if desired, but the gym leader may not. Are you both ready?"
Nina and Chuck indicated that they were. The referee replied, "All right then... Begin!"

"Everyone, gather around!" Mike commanded. "Do you think it''s Team Magma or Aqua?"
Nitro''s flaming tail burned with intensity as he eyed the apporaching helicopter. Don''t you even try anything...
Got you in my sites, just say the word Mike! Portabello had his mouth aimed at the rotors, ready to unleash a Sludge Bomb at the helicopter.
Titanium and Proton both were at battle ready stances, the Magnemite charged with electricity. I hope it''s friendly...
Shiver hopped into the water, awaiting for the oppertune moment to attack, he wasn''t going to be surprised again.

She squinted at it as it flew nearer. "I knew it," she yelled over the whirring blades. The chopper was jet black with two gold lighting shaped crests down either side. On the nose was a symbol of the Thunder Badge. "It's alright," she called to everyone as it touched down. "There's no need for attack!" After a few moments, the blades came to a halt, and Lt. Surge stepped out of the chopper, a Raichu at his heels.

Kilik looked through the glass of the window. The rain was still pouring down. A bowl of soup appeared in front of his face. He looked up to see Nurse Joy smiling at him with the soup in her hands. "With the weather like this, you're not going anywhere soon," she sat down next to him, a bowl of soup for herself resting in her lap. Kilik took his headphones off and let them rest around his neck.
"Thanks," he smiled before sipping the soup. The tomato goodness ran down his throat, warming his insides considerably.

Mike let out a sigh of releif. "Thank Hoenn it's someone friendly." Mike motioned to his Pokemon with a wave. "It's alright guys, no need to attack, it's just a Gym Leader."
One by one, Mike's Pokemon lowered their attacks, glad to hear that they were safe.

"Kassie!" Surge said, a hint of relief in his voice. He glanced over at Mike, and gave him a nod. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend there?"
"This is Mike," she said, as the rather large, spikey blonde-haired man stepped forward and offered Mike his hand. "Mike, this is Lt. Surge, Leader of the Vermilion City gym," she stopped, and swallowed the lump in her throat. "And also my father." She looked over at him, hoping he wouldn't hate her for not telling him right away. Shocker narrowed her eyes at the sight of the Raichu, who glanced over her like she was nothing. Shocker's cheeks sparked furiously, but she held her place.

Flareon put its front paws on Kilik's knees and looked up at him, a hungry look in his eyes. "No, this isn't for Pokemon," he whispered, drinking some more of his soup.
"You look depressed...what's the matter?" Nurse Joy asked as she swallowed her soup. Kilik's spoon clanged lightly against the side of his bowl.
"I'd rather not talk about it."

"Hello Mr. Surge, I almost shot you out of the sky there, Ehehehehe." Mike nervously laughed as his Pokemon looked away innocently, poison dripping from Portabello's mouth.
"I've heard alot about you and hope to challenge you on-WHAT?!" The news of Kasiya's father had just sunk in. "..."
Mike just stood there, after a moment of silence, he finally blurted out. "That is...SO COOL!"
Titanium gave a threatening gaze to Surge's Raichu, then smiled at Shocker, assuring her that he'd pound the fur off of him if he even looked at her funny.

Chuck threw out his first Pokeball, and Primeape had erupted out of it, just as Nina knew it would. "All right," she said, "go, Anna!" She pointed toward the arena, and Nina floated to her side. "Misdrea, misdreavuuus..." She felt rather stupid repeating her name, as she hadn't done that in quite a long time.
Chuck bit his lip. "Great. It had to be a Ghost-type. Why couldn't you have sent out a Psychic type? At least I could inflict damage on them!"
Nina chuckled a little. "Anna, Psywave attack, now!" Anna nodded, and unleashed a large amount of visible, circular psychic waves, which struck the Primeape, inflicting heavy damage. Primeape jumped to its feet, looking incredibly shaken, and Chuck looked beyond surprised. "Grr... Primeape, do a Screech attack! At least bring down its defense!" Primeape snorted, before letting out a horribly ear-piercing screech. Anna's body glowed a light green for a second, indicating its defense had fallen.
"Anna, finish this punk off. Give it another Psywave!" Anna loosed another stream of the circular waves, which did a significantly lesser amount of damage to Primape, but still caused him to faint nonetheless. Nina grinned. "It appears that I've won the first round, Chuck," she said as he recalled his Pokemon. "Well... don't get used to your victory!" Chuck shot back, before releasing his Poliwrath.
"Poliwrath, Surf attack now!" It nodded, and manifested a large wave that came crashing down onto Anna. Because of Screech's effect, she took more damage than she would have liked. Nina bit her lip for a moment. "Anna, give it a Confuse Ray! Don't let it touch you again!"
The Misdreavus stared at Poliwrath, and exposed it to a brilliant flash of light, which resulted in it becoming confused.

Surge merely laughed at Mike. "This here chopper's tougher than you'd like to believe, son. It'd take more than that to bring 'er down." He looked back at Kasiya. "You hadn't told him?" he asked.
"Uh, well, no. It hadn't really sunk in yet," she admitted, turning to Mike. "I'm sorry, I should have told you sooner. It's really the reason I came to Hoenn." She looked back at her father. "How did you know I was here?"
"Professor Oak," he nodded. "Called me minutes after you hung up on him."
"Of course," she mumbled, looking at the sea.
"Honestly, Kassie, I thought that you'd be waiting for me back at the gym, ready to fight, but you weren't there. Your mother and I were worried sick, we had no idea where you'd gone."
"I've got my Pokemon," she retorted. "And also my friends. There's no need to worry about me, Dad", she added at the last second.
