The room was quiet, nothing but the sound of the equipment in the room as Riza set there with her hand resting on top of his. In his mind it was even quieter then that. No thoughts, no paranoia, no ghosts. Just darkness and silence. Crenu was at peace, his chest rose and sank with his breaths, replacement blood, this time B positive, was being fed to his starving body replacing what he'd lost over time. The deep cuts had been stitched up properly, and his burns treated, his levels returning to normal as the mahine hooked up to his vitals heeled steadily. His hand suddenly turned slightly, catching Riza's and squeezing it. His eyes opened and s**t right away from the lights, opening again slowly a moment later. "...looks like it was one hell of a headache." Even though his expression was the same, that was clearly his attempt at a joke. All that aside though he looked at Riza, trying to get up but slumping down back into his pillow uselessly. He just sighed, and gave up, it was probably best if he just relaxed for now. "Doctors say anything to you?" He asked, worried about how much she knew now. How much he'd have to explain.

Ben watched as Pichu flailed in midair before being knocked back by the relatively powerful Psychic move. Gritting his teeth slightly, he then smiled when he saw that the attack hadn't been able to ward off the Thunder Wave. 'Excellent,' he thought while Pichu rolled back onto his feet with a tiny grunt. He had to find a way to avoid that Psychic attack.. He had to get in close. "Pichu!" he called out. "Start running as fast as you can around Croconaw! Don't stop moving!" Pichu nodded slightly and took off at a quick dash toward the larger Pokemon, starting to run around it in swift circles, aiming to evade its attacks and maybe even make it dizzy. He just hoped it would work. Now that the Pokemon was paralyzed by Ben's attack, it should be pretty sluggish and unable to keep up with Pichu's quick movements.

By the time Keegan and Sheena had made the return trip to Petalburg City, the embarrassment over the previous little incident had faded almost completely. It had taken some persuading, but after recalling her amorous Delcatty and comically-timid Pelipper, Sheena had agreed to ride back to town astride Eithne the Arcanine. The pair were now sitting quietly in the Pokemon Center, awaiting the return of their Pokemon. Fortunately, neither of them really felt like speaking just now, which was just fine with Keegan. The redhead's eyes were closed and he was leaning back in his seat, arms folded tightly over his chest as he contemplated his upcoming gym battle. A herd of wild Rapidash couldn't keep me away, he thought, seeing the half-full badge case in his mind's eye. The seven, well-worn grooves that his father's badges had previously occupied stood out quite clearly, but not more than the smooth, pristine spot that served as a painful reminder of Todd Summers' failed League attempt. Keegan scoffed and shook his head, eyes still closed. He didn't know why, and he certainly didn't like it, but it was almost like he owed it to his old man to get out there and earn all eight of the Hoenn League badges. Then, at the very least he'd have bragging rights over his father, and he could even gain entry to the League. He frowned. Did he really want to take it that far?
The silence was deafening for the normally-super-chatty Sheena, but after everything that had just happened, for once she was having difficulty finding something to say. She glanced up as the nurse called their names, but the redhead seemed like he was lost in his own thoughts. Wordlessly, the pink-haired girl stood up and went over to retrieve them, politely thanking the nurse for healing both trainers' Pokemon before she brought them back to Keegan. "Here, your Pokemon," she said, handing one of the trays to the redhead, but he didn't hear her right away, and she had to repeat herself twice and even resort to smacking him lightly with the tray before she got his attention.
"Hmm? Oh, right," Keegan muttered, finally accepting the tray. "Sorry. I was just... thinking." He had started fitting the spheres back onto his belt, but stopped when he got to Pan's. As much as he wanted to continue the egotistical Grovyle's training, he knew this gym would be too much for the gecko and he stood up quite abruptly, making his way across the lobby in only a few long strides to where the PCs were located.
"Thinking about what?" Sheena asked, a bit startled by the redhead's sudden movements, Sheena quickly got out of his way, watching with interest as he headed on over to the computer bay. She followed after him, giving him enough time and space to input his information before intruding fully. "Whatcha doing?" she asked, peering over his shoulder, her previous embarrassment now entirely forgotten in favor of curiosity.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Keegan retorted sarcastically, pausing for only a second to glare at the pink-haired girl. He placed Pan's PokeBall into the transfer slot and pulled the lever down. Within a few seconds, the Grovyle had been sent back to his parent's ranch, and after a few seconds more, it was replaced by a PokeBall Keegan knew he could pick out of thousands just from sight alone. "Why did I ever think I could do this without you, Helios?" he asked the sphere before setting it in the lead slot on his belt.
"Ooooh Helios!" Sheena screeched, and mostly in Keegan's poor ear, at that. "How's the cute little guy doing? I haven't seen him in so long! Please, Keegan! Can I see him? Pleeeeeeaaaase?!" The pink-haired girl's voice grew louder and shriller with each syllable.
Keegan sighed, and rolled his eyes, but his annoyance, for once, was brief. He was rather proud of his little partner, after all, and didn't like to squander opportunities to show him off. "All right, fine. As long as you promise to stop your damned screaming," he said, not bothering to get up out of the chair as he lazily tossed Helios' PokeBall over his shoulder, quickly covering both ears with his palms as he waited for the squeals of delight that were nearly guaranteed to follow.

If it hadn't been for the steady humming and beeping of the machinery in the room, the quiet would have been almost painful for Riza. She wasn't even sure how long she'd been in there so far, all she knew was that she wasn't leaving until someone made her leave, and even then she planned to put up a fight.
She'd leaned forward in her chair, resting her head on the bed as she kept her hand gently resting atop Shiro's. She wasn't exactly tired, but perhaps it was just the atmosphere of the hospital that made her feel sleepy and soon her eyes had drifted closed, though she only lightly dozed. When she felt Shiro move his hand beneath hers, she sat bolt upright, giving a little sigh of relief when she saw him open his eyes.
She didn't laugh at his joke attempt, instead giving him a semi serious look. "Not funny," she said, her voice quiet. She moved to stop him from sitting up but it wasn't necessary as he laid back on the pillow with a sigh, and her expression softened some. "No," she answered, shaking her head. "They asked a whole bunch of questions, but nobody's really told me anything." She paused, sensing a bit of worry in his voice. "Why? Is there something they should be telling me?" she asked, her own tone a little stern.

Despite Zorua's newly-paralyzed state, Jasper had watched the Pichu hit the ground with a bit of a smirk. Sure, this was just a training match, but that didn't mean that neither trainer didn't want to win. Zorua was having trouble moving now, but she was far from done, giving a bit of a growl as the Tiny Mouse Pokemon started to dart around her in a circle. Jasper raised an eyebrow, not entirely sure what Ben was trying to accomplish. All he knew was that Zorua's Extrasensory was easily her strongest attack, and they would find a way to make the most of it. Very briefly, the Croconaw's form seemed to flicker a little, almost like an old television on a bad station. Jasper smiled a bit; the element of surprise was still on their side, and just maybe they could make the most of it.
"Stay focused," Jasper told the disguised fox calmly, clearly unfazed by his Pokemon's paralysis, even if he didn't have an immediate plan of action. Zorua, on the other hand, disliked the fact that moving had become so difficult and she glanced back at her trainer, and then at the Pichu as it dashed around her. With all the strength she could muster, the fake Croconaw threw back her head and began to sob loudly, literal rivers of tears streaming from her eyes as she initiated a rather convincing Fake Tears.

Coming out of the haze of sleep, or having passed out rather, Crenu's mind started to clear. That didn't make things any easier though, his question to Riza had been more transparent than he had hoped. He didn't look at her at first, staring off out of the room window at first as he thought about it. What could he tell her? Of course the very first thing that came to mind was to lie. A simple deflection, denial, just telling her that there was nothing to tell. In truth she'd probably drop it like she usually did. Then again, considering he was in a hospital bed right now maybe she wouldn't let it go that easily. But how could he tell her? What would she think? Surely Riza would leave him then. But...but Crenu didn't want to lie to her anymore. Before he knew it, his hand was drawn to his arm, slowly unraveling the wraps. As the flesh came into view, so did the reason for the doctors concern.
The wounds had been treated and cleaned, but they still looked fresh and red. However, these weren't accidental cuts and scrapes, rather they were tally marks obviously carved into his skin on purpose. He'd only unwrapped about half of his arm, but it was clear that they kept going all the way up the rest. Neat clusters, groups of five cut into his skin. He said nothing at first, just stared at his arm, finally looking up at Riza. "...I imagine something like this raises a red flag in the medical community. Surely they suspect something along the lines of external abuse, self afflicted abuse, and or mental illness. Of course you couldn't give them anything, since you didn't know yourself. It's not something I'm proud of. You can understand my not telling you. They represent my losses. Pokemon related or otherwise. Each one I can remember anyway, and I remember quite a lot..." That was all he said. Crenu didn't think he could bring himself to tell her the other mental issues. He didn't feel like sharing that much, plus this alone was a lot to take in. He just sat there in silence, each second felt like minuets as he waited for her reaction.

When Pichu saw the Gator's tears, he paused, looking at the other Pokemon with concern. He hadn't hurt it, had he. Ben grumbled and called out, "Pichu, don't be fooled! It's trying to make you drop your guard! Quick, run to the back and use Thundershock!" It had looked like Extrasensory could only be aimed along the other Pokemon's line of sight, so Ben thought this was his best advantage, if Pichu could move fast enough. Quickly, Pichu dashed around the large water-type and let loose a strong jolt of electricity while it ran, striking the Pokemon in the back.

The fact that Shiro didn't answer her right away was rather unsettling, but Riza remained quiet and patient, two things she generally wasn't very good at. It wasn't like he was in any position to run away from her or avoid her. She allowed her tense, hard look to soften, though she hadn't been expecting him to start to unravel the clean bandages covering his arms.
The already pale skinned girl seemed to go even paler when she saw the marks on his arms, though she had to move a little closer in order to get a better look, and make sure she was seeing what she thought she was seeing. "Those are..." she murmured, counting the groups of five marks in her mind. She looked up at him as he started to speak, unable to think of a way to respond right away. She stood up and distanced herself from the bed a bit, trying to wrap her head around this. 'No wonder he was always bleeding,' she thought, turning to look out the window as she collected her thoughts. Tears had started to form in her eyes and it wasn't long before they were spilling down her cheeks.
"Let me get this straight," she said, looking back at him again and not bothering to wipe away her tears. "You cut into...you mutilate your arms every time you lose?" She walked back over to him and gestured to his limbs with a hand. "Are any of those marks for me?" she asked, her voice breaking. "Tell me the truth, Shiro. Are any of those marks because of me?"

Kasiya thought of her Minccino and clingy-jealous Piplup as the little group found a table to sit at. She hadn't yet had a chance to train with the Chinchilla Pokemon, and Alphonse, well, his battling skills could definitely use some improvement so she'd be quite happy helping Hayley to train. Since hearing that she hadn't yet won a battle, Kasiya had started to think about all of the ways they could help her make her first win a really memorable one. She laughed as Kaylee swiped the cherry from atop Hayley's banana split and looked at her own electric mouse, giving her a playful nudge. "Remind you of anyone?" she asked, prompting a shrug from Shocker. The Raichu had decided to forego utensils altogether and just use her paws and face, and in absolutely no time at all she'd made a total mess of herself.
Kasiya, on the other hand, attacked her ice cream in a more ladylike fashion, looking quite thoughtful as she attempted to evaluate just how good it was, nodding along with Hayley's assessment. "Definitely really good! Top five, easy," she murmured between spoonfuls. She looked between her two companions as they enjoyed their ice cream in different ways, unable to hold back a giggle as Mike managed to give himself what looked to be a rather painful round of brain freeze. Even Shocker looked up from her chocolatey mess to stare at the boy for a few moments, but quickly returned to her own sundae, which was already almost gone. She set her sights on Kasiya's, but the girl pulled the bowl away in a protective manner. "Oh no you don't!" she said, throwing a handful of napkins at the messy mouse. "You've had enough ice cream, you're chubby enough as it is!" Shocker, unfazed by her trainer's comment just stuck out both her tongue and belly, patting the latter quite firmly.
=-=-=-=-= "I know that," Jaeshan retorted quickly, but he stopped himself. He knew he couldn't just boost Sigilyph's special attack and defense forever, even if it would benefit his Stored Power, but the more pressing matter right now was the fact that a wave of electrical energy was now heading for the Avianoid Pokemon.
"Fly up," the blonde directed, not at all interested in having Sigilyph get paralyzed, "and then use Hypnosis!" Sigilyph mirrored his trainers thoughts and quickly drifted upward, the electricity crackling below him. His single eye began to glow and his wings flapped slowly as he began to direct pulsing, hypnotic waves at the Mismagius.

It took Jasper a moment or two to figure out what Zorua was up to, though he was a little glad the real Croconaw wasn't out here to witness this. She wouldn't like it if she knew the little dark type was out here, making her look like a big crybaby. Regardless, the Fake Tears would make the little mouse more susceptible to special attacks; they just needed to land one.
"Zorua, dodge that," Jasper called as the little electric type loosed a jolt of electricity. The fox gave a yelp and wheeled around, trying to weave out of the way but her body was too sluggish from the paralysis to work properly. The electricity struck her shoulder, and in the blink of an eye, Zorua's Illusion was broken, thus ending the ruse of the adorable little fox, and she gave herself a shake, giggling quite devilishly. "Extrasensory, now," Jasper called, hoping that his Pokemon's sudden identity crisis would catch their opponents off guard as the fox unleashed another blast of powerful psychic energy.

By the time the boat took off Dante was sure he never wanted to see another boat in his life. Too much travel in one day. Next time he should get a plane, or take some time to explore the city he had landed in. Groaning Dante was glad he had at least snagged a place near the railing of the boat, this way he could at least feel better about leaning against that then all the people around him. Dark eyes watched as the boat sliced through the waves with ease. It held his interest for a moment, not very long though since he couldn't see any pokemon in the depths. He did watch the pokemon battles that they passed as the boat drove through the waves. Honestly Dante thought these people were crazy, you were already trying to stay afloat in the water and now you were directing pokemon in a battle all the while trying to stay afloat in the mass of waves that were also made by said pokemon.
"I always wanted to try battling in the ocean." The voice of Dante's temporary travel companion broke into his thoughts.
"I always thought that people who battled on the ocean like that were crazy."
Dante and his companion just stared at each other for a moment before laughing. "You have no sense of adventure."
Shaking his head and wishing he could have a smoke Dante just took a deep breath of the fresh sea air instead. "No, I have a sense of adventure tempered by the knowledge that I have the worst luck in the world."
"Hm, no luck can be that bad."
"I fell through the floor in the burned tower. All of them."
"Ok you do have bad luck."
The two of them shared another small laugh, Dante's a bit more bitter then the others. “Want to have a pokemon battle when we reach the shore?"
Shrugging Dante watched as the shore, that was now in view, came closer to them. "I only have two pokemon on me and one of them is very young."
"Technically you have three pokemon on you, since that egg counts." Came the cheeky response.
Rolling his eyes Dante corrected himself. "Fine, I have three pokemon on me."
"Well, I have a pretty young pokemon on me as well, let's have a battle when he land?"
"You mean right now?" Dante counted as they landed on the shore.
"Yeah, I guess I do mean that." Dante just chuckled and got in the line that would let them off the boat.

"Thats more like it. Good good, counter status with status. But you'll have to be more clever than that. Psywave defense my dear!" Mismagius wailed out as her body glowed. She focused on the Target and released her own pulsing waves of psychic energy, they distorted the air as they collided with Sigilyph's attack, the waves expanding and shrinking before bursting out in every which way and diffusing harmlessly in the air. "Gym leaders like to use moves unconventionally."

This was it, Crenu knew it. As he watched Riza back away from him he knew. The life draining from her face, the look in her eyes as she turned away. She was disgusted. She couldn't look at him, who could? Crenu made her feel as sick as he made himself feel, and he clenched his fist as he felt himself loosing her. He was almost certain she was going to run out of the room and leave him there. And as she talked to him, tears streaming down her face, he almost wished she had. It was such a painful question, and he knew the answer would be bad. But, it was too late to lie now. "..Yeah. This one is from the contest." He said slowly pointing to the freshest looking cut in the middle of his forearm. "Its....I can't explain it. Each loss, makes my skin crawn and burn and hurt even...it drives me nuts. Cutting it into me cemented that loss...and it makes me feel better. I know how it looks and sounds. But this has nothing to do with you, its on me. But these cuts are old...the thing is. They look fresh, and my burns look fresh, and I was bleeding out cause they won't heal. None of my wounds are healing. I don't know why..." He couldn't look at her as he spoke. He knew he made her own skin crawl, he was disgusting.
"Visiting hours are over for the afternoon, you can visit again in the evening." A nurse popped in to make her announcement, unaware of the situaion unfolding as she left the room to pop in on the next patient with a visitor.

Riza didn't realize she'd been holding her breath until she finally exhaled, her grey eyes slowly going over the cut he pointed out. She couldn't think of anything to say right away so she nodded, more tears spilling down her cheeks as he explained to her why he'd done it and she moved back to the side of the bed. The other injuries he'd suffered, the burns and Ekans bite, she knew they weren't fresh yet they looked as though he'd only suffered them earlier that morning.
She frowned as he explained that none of his wounds were healing, and it was then that she realized he was refusing to look at her. "Oh Shiro," she said softly, taking his one hand in both of hers. "I know you don't see it this way, but they're just losses. They happen to everybody." She leaned in and kissed his cheek, wanting to say more but at that point, a nurse poked her head into the room, announcing that visiting hours were over. Before Riza could object she was gone again, and the raven haired girl shook her head. "N-no," she said, still clutching Crenu's hand. "I'm not leaving your side, they can't make me!"

Crenus heart was racing, he felt it in the pit of his stomach, fear of what would happen now. Was she angry with him? Upset? Sad? Was she going to yell at him, storm out? There Aww no way to know, but all roads lead to him losing her. He was almost ready to jump out of the bed and plead with her when she came closer to the bed once more, and took his hand in hers. Her tone was soft and gentle, and even forgiving maybe. She tried to console him, and kissed his cheek, even after all that she was sticking with him. Even after that confession, after those tears, she was worried about him. And without realizing it, his vision became a bit blurry as tears started to gather in his eyes. This woman, this person right here. She genuinely cared. And so did he. "Riza..." The nurse came in though and just as they were coming together it was time for them to be apart. Riza protested, and Crenu felt the same way, he didn't want her to leave. But he knew she had to. He wiped away his tears, then placed his hand on her face and wiped away hers, holding her cheek I'm his palm softly. "Actually I'm pretty sure they can. Riza..thank you. Really, thank you. But its alright. I'll be ok here, they're treating me and keeping me alive and well. The nurse said you can come back later, or even tomorrow. It's not like I'm going anywhere. Go, get a room at the center and something to eat, then relax. You need it. Otherwise you'll burn out and end up in the room down the hall." It was hard, but Crenu forced himself to sit up, leaning forward to give Riza a kiss. He pressed his lips to hers, and kissed her deep, letting his lips linger before reluctantly parting. "Go, I'll be ok. Promise."
Just then the pesky nurse came back, not at all happy to see the raven haired girl still in the room. "Ma'am, visiting hours are over. Please, you'll have to leave. Now. It's hospital policy." Her tone was a bit more stern now as she stood by the door waiting. Crenu gave her a nod and a wave, and assured Riza it was ok, asking her not to pick a fight with the nursing staff.

Ben and Pichu both stared dumbfounded as the corconaw lost tis shape, instead turning into a small, dark fox. Ben had never seen a Pokemon like this before. Looking to Pichu, he was about to call a move when the Zorua was already attacking, the psychic wave blasting Pichu backwards a few feet into a hard landing. Ben eyes looked worried as Pichu slowly inched onto its fet, its breath coming in deep pants. 'Oh, no.. Pichu's hurt,' Ben thought. But it wasn't time to give up, yet. Quickly, Ben called another move. "Thundershock, again!" Pichu clenched its fists, sending out all the energy he could muster into his last-chance attack, aiming right for the little fox's head.
