There was a wonderful hope, Lin thought to herself.

"That would be good, Aethos is so isolated here in a way, and Miyuki's comment on who the children chose to play is a bit telling."

Earendil nodded. "Yes, the fact that no one seems to want to play the part of the First Sola ... that is quite telling, considering his position. In most cases, people would jump at the chance to even just play the part of someone of such a rank."

They reached Lin and Miyuki's room, and he edged the door open with his toe and stood back to let Lin in first.

Lin opened the door fully so Earendil would have the room to maneuver himself. She nodded at this, while she never had played such a game, she understood the concept behind it all.

"Did you ever play games like that as a child?"

"Some," Earendil nodded, following Lin into the room, "but not with other children. Daeron wasn't really around much, and after he got back he withdrew, I think already then he was having a lot of trouble with Father. But I did play with my toys a bit, giving them roles to play ... war games was always something my parents encouraged. In fact, they often helped out by suggesting strategies."

He set Miyuki on the bed gently, then shrugged. "Even then, it was all about education."

Lin grinned at that, she had never thought about it that way. She wondered if Earendil had ever mindless played as a child, she couldn't recall learning anything from playing other than socializing.

"When I really played, for the short while I did I don't think I learned anything from it. It was more socializing, which completely backfired when I was little," Lin murmured as she moved to tuck Miyuki into bed.

When she thought about it, she was unusual even for a Second.

"I think... I was too mature as a child, even compared to other Seconds. I had so much trouble relating to them, relating to most children my age."

Earendil grinned at Lin, sitting on the edge of the bed and watching her tuck Miyuki in. "Well," he said softly, so as not to wake the sleeping kitsune, "you and I got along pretty well. Don't you think?"

His eyes were sparkling. He was teasing her, of course.

Lin chuckled at that this looking over at Earendil. Her fingers trailed lightly over the sheets as she pulled away, not wanting to disturbing the little girl.

"Of course."

Even though Earendil had been older than her by a lot.

"We had lots of fun."

Earendil grinned. "We did. And now look at us. Several years ... or decades ... older. And still having lots of fun."

He patted the bed next to him, inviting her sit next to him. "Come on, you should rest your feet a bit," he murmured. "It's been a long day for all of us."

Lin grinned at that as she scooted sideways a bit on her feet until she was beside Earendil. Turned around and sat down gently on the bed.

"More for you I'm sure, I just sat and listened to stories about rocs," Lin replied, "It was a good idea Earendil. Otherwise I would have been lost on what to do."

Since he was the one who suggested it.

Earendil smiled and put one arm around Lin's shoulders and drew her close, and began to to rub her arm gently. "I'm just glad it worked out for you without you having to come back to the castle," he murmured. "I know you wouldn't want to leave Miyuki alone in the city. I just did a lot of walking and talking, nothing strange about that for me."

Leaning against Earendil, Lin settled into a comfortable position in which she didn't want to get out of. Though the arm rubbing probably had part to do with that.

"Hmm.... but you were teaching, that's a bit of work."

Even if the person was a full grown woman who didn't need to be convinced like a child. Not that Lin had to do much convincing with Miyuki she was lucky in that aspect.

Earendil tilted his head slightly and kept rubbing Lin's arm. "Mm. Perhaps. But in some ways, it's more like a conversation than anything else. Aerin is eager to listen, very attentive, and you never have to repeat anything for her."

He pursed his lips thoughtfully for a moment, then looked down at Lin again. "I brought up the idea of a port for naval trade. She seemed quite interested in the idea."

"Naval trade would be very interesting there are many things here that are unique to just this island, and it would open up communication again."

After all there was only so much one could say how much the Four Lands had changed since the Sky Elves left.

Earendil nodded and continued to lightly caress Lin's arm. "It would be a great benefit to the country," he murmured. "But it would also mean that they would have to change currencies ... they would need gold and silver and bronze. Marble is worthless on the continent. I'm sure they can sell quite a few commodities to get some gold, but ... it's going to take time to start up a real economy."

Lin reached out and took Earendil's free hand, she just wanted to hold his hand. As a general rule Lin didn't consider herself to be a touchy feely sort of person (but seriously she was willing to reconsider that at the moment).

"One step at a time," Lin murmured sleepily.
