"I don't know..." he said shaking his head. "I..." He groaned internally. So many conflicting emotions! He looked at Callista and all at once his blood boiled and his heart melted. He thought of her in danger and that same blood froze in fear...as it did when she said she cared for him as a lifemate. He wasn't good enough for her...but I wish I was...

I think you are more than good enough. I wouldn't want any other. I couldn't. She pulled her hoof away from him and pulled her knees up into her chest, resting her head on them. "You've got to be worthy. I need you."

"Neither do I..." said a sinister voice as a dark vampire stepped from the shadows. "Not after I've finally caught you..."

Callista jumped up and started to weave a safeguard around her and Valzar. "Go away!"

Sangula smirked, "Are you kidding?" She tapped at the safeguard with one hoof. "Not bad...but I can do better!" She turned and hassed over her shoulder, "Dracul! Deal with this little...inconvenience."
A young dragon stepped forward and eyed the safeguard for a moment before hurling a mass of fire at it.
Valzar was moving on instincts, leaping up to strengthen Callista's safeguards with his own magic. Callista, run! Turn into mist and get out of here - quickly! She intends to kill you, I can...sense it... His eyes widened in fear at the vampire's intentions. "She'll use me to do it..."

Callista stood behind Valzar and tried to build up the clouds. I will not leave you Valzar. She'll hurt you...I can't let her do that...." She had a storm brewing and launched a bolt of lightning at the ground, inches from the edges of her safeguard.

"Cute trick..." Sangula muttered using her own abilities to tap into the safeguards and drain the energy from them. Just a matter of time... her words grasped at her puppet's mind. before her pretty little life comes to a painful and unexpected end... She let her laughed seep into the warlocks mind, And to think, she trusted you...
She won't hurt me... he shot back feeding more energy into the safeguards. "Just go!"

Callista shrunk away from him, turning to mist as she did. She floated up into the trees and hid, trying to mask her presence from the vampire. Valzar...Be safe.

You too... he said before cutting off his mind from all external influences. He called upon his gift, the dark powers of his father and hurled what remained of the safeguard at the vampire and dragon before masking his own disappearance with a bust of light.
"No!" Sangula hissed as she was blasted back against a tree. She leaped back to her feet searching the forests for any sign of the girl or the magic wielder. Don't bother trying to hide. I WILL find you!
Dracul groaned as he too took the blow.

Callista sped off toward a small cave that she knew. She set a series of safeguards and went to the lower chambers to hide. She hoped that Valzar knew what he was doing, that he had made it out to safety.

Valzar ran through the forests making no attempt to hide his trail from the vampire. The goal was to draw her away from Callista...and eliminate the one thing that could harm her...himself.
"Come out, little boy..." Sangula called. "Come back out and play...I'm not nearly finished with you!"

Callista felt a strange sensation in her heart. She reached out for Valzar instinctively. What are you doing? Go somewhere safe!

Valzar took advantage of the connection to make certain she was safe, Don't worry. Just stay where you are, he sent back before closing his mind again. He would not allow the vampire to hurt Callista through him.
