((Wow... going back to the first page of posts reminds me of exactly how far I've strayed from Siber's original personality. I'm going to blame that on unchecked character development and psychological side-effects from acquiring the soul of a centuries-dead ancestor ninja Also, my whole char. description is there - differentiating factors would be knives, food (esp. sweets), and longish hair. Actually, come to think of it, a dæmon wouldn't be a bad indication biggrin or an element on Joe. Devath, it seems to be that tropes are 'illegal' tools of the fantasy/sci-fi trade; for example, the trope "Bamboo Technology" includes building a working computer out of cardboard and other, less silly examples. Think along the lines of Indiana Jones falling into a pit of snakes that has been surviving on... dust... for hundreds of years (this example is from the site, by the way). Invoking one would basically be inputting a cheat code, as I see it, which isn't a bad thing; it's just complicated. And Siber is frozen. He feels chilly. And he and Keldan whine smile ))

((haha! i was doing the same thing right before i left, Siber. I actually asked Venom if we could go through and modify the changes in our characters, ie Joe being more than a -2 now. also gives me sweet ideas on where to take my character though, you know? and i agree about the drawing.))

tic_tac_joe Joe was about to speak when he felt something nearby. His head whipped up and he looked out the window, although he couldn't tell immediately what was bothering him. On a whim, he sent out a magic pulse. "What the hell..." He saw that the area they were in was positively drenched in magic, completely different that when he had scanned it with Takeshi. What was going on? ((you don't have to worry about mine yet, just do Siber's and i'll change mine based on his.)) Paul stood up. He opened his third eye, then promptly closed it, much like a man who had been sitting in the dark opening his eyes at noon. "Joe. What exactly is that?" he asked, slowly opening the third eye again, only to find that whatever it was had simply disappeared. Paul furrowed his eyebrows. "Where'd it go?" --- Fyrin suddenly stood up very straight. "Stop. Finish and stop the magic," he ordered Bernard suddenly. "Someone just probed us with magic. I'm covering up everything I can. Crap," Fyrin grunted. "Our clothing is just soaked with magic, it's one of the weapons... this could be bad. We need to find out who just did that and get them down."

((On the subject of secondary characters: What I'm looking for in secondary characters is mainly Council dudes; that's the only primary thing. This will be easier once I've posted the full list of the Council Members, and the only group that can't be chose for you guys is the Maskers, simply because they're universally hated and changing powers every time you kill something complicates things too much. And something else I can't say yet. If you want, I can post the list now, or we can wait until your actual introduction to the full Council. On the subject of trope invocation: I have spent absurd amount of time on that sight - I can recognize almost any trope just by name. If you guys don't feel like familiarizing yourself with them, that's completely okay. I've probably spent too much time on that site anyway. xd If we do want to add this, I have a pretty simple way of adapting Cam's rules to Cabal. On the subject of plot dilution: I actually am, at this point, getting into the main part I was looking forward to, once CERTAIN PEOPLE ACHERONSIMI have posted so I can finish off getting the characters allied with the primary blocs of the Council of 27 for the various Council combat arcs. On the subject of profile changes: Sure, just PM me the changes you want and I'll edit your profile. I never remembered to reply about that, did I, Joe? sweatdrop On the subject of suggestions/complaints: If you have any, post them here or PM them to me, please! I really do want to hear them.))

The Sage smiled. "See that mark over the 'a' there? It needs to be... hollow. Empty. That seems to be the last of your major stumbling points." He demonstrated the way Samuel was pronouncing it. "Now, when I do it."
He pronounced the spell carefully and there was a brief implosion of air as he stabilized the shield.
"Now watch, toss a rock or something at me," the Sage told Samuel.
--
Renard grimaced. "All right, kids, everyone into the clown car," he commanded, gesturing at the van." He turned to Fyrin. "That magic felt kind of like yours - straight pulling of Crossover. I'm thinking a Cabal member or one of the other mage groups, possibly. Except the Sages, naturally. Probably not a druid, either. Maybe a Warlock Hunter, which we be bad for us, or a Demon Hunter, which would be terrible for us. Either way, we need to go."

"Yes," Fyrin responded. "We need to get these kids home before we do anything. But after that, we ought to try and find out who that is. This could be our lead-in to Legion," Fyrin commented, jumping into the driver's seat of the van. Somehow this seemed instinctive; sure, everyone else (except the children) was capable of driving, but Fyrin apparently simply did drive. Maybe he drove well, maybe not. That remained to be seen. He waited long enough for everyone to get in, then accelerated sort of hard, explaining, "If they know we're here, they're gonna come looking, so let's move and come back, see if we can't catch them in a trap."

"We're in a van full of children, we're not trapping them yet," Renard snapped. "Besides, this thing's going to transform rapidly from van to barbecue if it's a decent Elementalist who wants us dead. I can fireproof my skin, but I doubt the kids in the back can. Whoever's checking will probably be following our magic trail anyway."

"If the can," Fyrin responded quickly. "Let's just move, we'll worry about keeping the kids safe when someone shows up." The van somehow managed to peal out; obviously the magical enhancements went well beyond the unusually large interior. Fyrin deftly maneuvered the thing out into the street, a bit of fish-tailing occuring.
Meanwhile, SCAR-man stood up, turning towards the back. To the children, he shouted, "Everybody, get into groups of people who live together, near each other, or were in the same location when you were brought here! Once that's done, give us an address to which we can deliver you!" Paul: Condition: Green Mana: 100% Glock 26: <11>/11/11/11 Athena KR6: <42>/42/42/42/42/42/42 (Special Rounds)

Joe pulsed again. "It's-wait!" He jerked in a southward direction. "They're headed away in that direction." Joe stood and headed for the door. "Wait here. I can catch em better than you." He ducked out the door and into a nearby alley. With another pulse to make sure he was headed in the right direction, Joe gathered his mana and called the wind. Wind was perhaps the hardest element to control. Fickle and ever-changing, it couldn't be ordered, only given suggestions. This would be a though one. Joe told it that there might be a lot of excitement if he caught up to that van. The wind agreed, insomuch as it could, and Joe blasted upward and forward, headed after the van at a much higher velocity than it was moving.

Marco looked around. He sensed a magical pulse from...nearby? He opened his own third eye in time to see a can go rolling by that had a higher-than-normal magic level. With a shrug, he stood and began to head in that direction.

Paul frowned, jumping up. "Hey, wai-" he started, but he was too late; Joe had gone. "Aww, come on!" Paul muttered, jumping up and running out to the taxi. He followed Joe's signature; that he could see, since Joe was making no effort to stop him from following it. Starting the car, Paul pealed it out of the lot, screaming out into the road to follow the tracks that Joe was leaving.
---
Fyrin grunted. "There's another pulse!" he informed Renard, pushing the pedal further towards the floor. "We're carrying children! They're gonna hit us! One, how close is he?" Fyrin inquired of SCAR-man. SCAR-man, turned around, obviously checking with his third eye.
"Magical signature is a couple blocks back, to the side," SCAR-man responded laconically. "He's behind buildings, can't see us yet. Looks like... he's in the air. Another one on the move, he's probably driving," he added suddenly. "Two magical users, one looks like an evoker since there's only active magic, other is probably a thaumaturge, he's just kinda soaked in it."
"Okay." Fyrin thought hard for a split second, then spoke. "When he catches up with us, open the doors. I want him to see we're carrying children!"
"Right!" SCAR-man confirmed, backing up to the doors and looking through the heavily tinted windows. Paul: Condition: Green Mana: 100% Glock 26: <11>/11/11/11 Athena KR6: <42>/42/42/42/42/42/42 (Special Rounds)

Siber wrapped up his session with the druid as quickly as possible. A nice paralyzing venom had been the result of their chat, one that was fairly easy to draw out of the foods Siber kept with him. Keldan mused. "Anthony, looks like I have to bail on you. Entertaining things are happening that I feel like I should know about. Not that you're not teaching me entertaining things, but my comrades are involved. "Paul, what's going on, and what's your location? If you can spare time, could come pick me up? Otherwise, let me know and I'll get there myself." He started preparing Centauri for a ride.

((Renard, SirBayer. Not Bernard. stare ))
"It's cool. Keep the leaf safe and I'll see you around," Anthony replied.
--
"That turns this uncomfortably close to a hostage situation in my eyes," Renard replied. "I have a better idea. I'm gonna use biomancy to, ah, distract our pursuers."
The children, after several minutes of discussion and some coordination by an older one who actually knew where their homes were in relation to each other, had formed into five groups of three and a group of four.

((Really? I like Bernard better. xp ))
Paul grunted. "Joe picked up on something powerful. Something magical's mucking about in the city and we honestly have no idea who or what. Joe went off the catch him, I was gonna catch up, but I can grab you on my way, I think I see you as is."
Sure enough, Paul screeched the taxi up onto the sidewalk, nearly hitting the park bench Siber had been sitting on moments before. He kicked open the passenger's door from the inside, shouting out the window, "Let's go, man, let's go!"
---
Fyrin nodded. "Do what you can. I'll get these kids where they're going." Fyrin started into a corner rather hard, sending most of the kids, all of his men, and even Renard to the left side of the van with significant speed. They pulled out of the corner smoothly, and the van kept on trundling, whizzing by other cars like a vehicle possessed. Which, in a way, it was; there was something terribly unholy in control.

Marco stepped out into the road in front of the van; how he had gotten in front of them was a mystery. He raised his hand and if one was behind him, one could see a small sigil on the back of his shirt, on the right shoulder. It glinted briefly, like a mirror in the sun. A wave of force barrelled straight up the road at the van, which was little more than 50 feet in front of Marco.
<><><><><><><><><><><>
Joe decided to take a shortcut and asked the wind to take him over the buildings instead of around. Imagine his shock when it launched him suddenly upwards, then into freefall on the other side of a city block. Just before he hit the ground, the wind swooped in and caught him, pulling him forward just in time to get behind the van. "Gotcha!" he said, as he felt another wave of magic. "Wait...what?" The pulse he had just felt had come from...in front of the van? Joe pushed forward enough to feel the impact.

Siber jumped in the passenger side door and they sped off after the van. Still working on summoning Centauri, he began manipulating his chakras around some peanuts in a pocket. In not too terribly long, they would excrete a chemical/magical paralytic venom which he would spread on one of his knives that wasn't the new phase one. "Hey, Paul. Could you put a mute on the pennies? Feedback is problematic. Besides that, how are you liking your gun?" He looked around the taxi and sniffed. Keldan grumbled.
Siber considered the police situation in Iraq in a new light.

Paul thought for a moment. He didn't have the concentration to undo the magic...
He snatched the penny from inside his mouth, tossed it into the back seat, whipped out his pistol, and destroyed it with a single explosive shot. With the same shot he trashed the upholstery, but that was okay; it wasn't his car. Reholstering the pistol, he weaved in and out of traffic, screaming towards where he felt Joe's magic field coming from. "The assault rifle's great, man. Fires like a dream, I fired a couple hundred rounds and it didn't even think about jamming. Sometime when I have more time, I'll bury it in the sand and see if it can perform like an AK74U. It's fantastic, though, and..." Paul suddenly stopped talking. A wave of power was made aware to his third eye. "Hey, brace for impact, this might be a little nasty, if it reaches us..." he told Siber, locking his hands tighter onto the wheel.
---
Fyrin's eyes widened slighly. "Everyone! Find something to hold onto!" he shouted, unsure of being heard over the road noise. "Three, up here, I need some fire/earth, incediary/flak!" he added. AK74U-man sprinted up to the front, shattering the shotgun passenger's window and preparing to fire. Fyrin himself smashed out the driver's side window, grabbed yet another length of bandages from his forearms, pulled free maybe six feet, then slung it out the open window. Interesting, as though weighted, it slid all the way across the windshield of the van. As soon as it touched the far side, AK74U-man grabbed onto it. A split second later, it incinerated itself firing off a burst of air to counteract the wave of force. To add to that, AK74U-man leaned out the window, firing off two quick bursts of automatic fire. The second they hit something, the rounds would not only explode (much like Paul's pistol, but with more ammo on target), but turn into an unnaturally large amount of shrapnel.
