Mike looked over to see Camerae still latched onto Blaine's Growlithe, who was bucking like a Rapidash at a rodeo. The Omanyte hung on as hard as its little tentacles would allow, aided by what Mike could only assume was some sort of mouth underneath the mass of suckers. The dog's thrashing became much more violent, and Mike knew that it would be better for his Pokemon to leave on his own accord than be thrown off. "Camerae! Break free and use a Water Gun!"
Camerae released his grip on the Growlithe, and instantaneously fired a jet of water from its mouth (which was still hidden). The stream slammed into the dog's side, and after being drenched once again, it admitted defeat. The Growlithe let out a weak howl and slumped over in a heap on the ground. Blaine returned his Pokemon and smirked, moving his gaze back to the Vulpix and Magmar, who were both very weary and still under the effect of the confusion.
The two Pokemon stood at a stalemate. Napalm had dished out considerable damage, but Blaine knew what he was doing, no doubt. He used his Pokemon's speed and trickery to even the playing field. It was like in the movies. Both Pokemon were silent, their determined gazes locked. Mike sighed. "Yeah this is cool and all, but this fight is taking too long. Water Gun."
Napalm blinked in surprise as his opponent was washed away by a stream of water. It didn't have a chance to react, and fainted before it hit the ground. "Whoo!" A small blast of fire shot from his mouth as he cheered. "Woo-hoohoohoohahahahaha!"
"Not bad." Blaine said, adjusting his glasses and recalling his last Pokemon. "For one so young, your Omanyte is very tough."
"It helps that it's pretty much built as an anti-Fire Pokemon." Mike replied. "So yeah." He shrugged. Mike looked over to his beaten Pokemon. "Hey Napalm, go take a victory swim, alright? You deserve it!" He flashed a thumbs up at his Magmar and smiled.
Napalm nodded, coughing up a bit of smoke as the adrenaline wore off and his injuries began to feel much more apparent. The Magmar walked over to the edge of the stadium and looked down, making sure there weren't any rocks in the way. Once he saw the coast was clear, the duck happily dived in. Camerae followed and watched as Napalm made a splash in the magma below. That sure was some strange looking water, the fossil thought.
"Camerae, don't go in that." Mike said, concerned. "You'll burn right up. Only fire Pokemon can go in there." The Omanyte stared hard at the lava as it tried to process what it had just been told. "Alright." Mike said, knowing a way to make it easier. "Good water is the same color as you. Bad water is orange and reddish." Camerae lifted up one of his tentacle and studied it. Mike chuckled as his Pokemon's brain worked overtime.
"That was a good warm-up match Mike." Blaine said with a smile. He walked over to Mike and placed a hand on his shoulder. "But I have to run to Sinnoh to drop off my research notes. If you still want me to take your Magneton, you can give him to me now. It shouldn't take that long to train him, and Mt. Coronet is right on the way."
"So you're gonna take Proton? Thank you so much Blaine! You have no idea how much I appreciate this!" Mike's eyes lit up in joy as he scrambled to remember which Pokeball was Proton's. After a few seconds, he got it, and handed it to the Gym Leader.
Blaine smiled once again. After hearing news stories and seeing Mike firsthand, with all his demons, it felt good to see him so happy. "I'll be back later tonight. I'll lock up the Gym, so you won't have to worry about people showing up. Keep on training, and when I get back, we can continue our matches."
"You got it!"

It turned out that the mines were not hard to find at all even considering that Robin had no idea where she was going. Then again there were only three main things in the town, the fossil research building, the pokemon gym and the coal mines. Robin of course managed to find the other two first before she and Ampersand wondered into the mines. The mines themselves were actually pretty darn cool if a little dusty. Robin of course made it her job to exclaim loudly over everything, Ampersand was just glad that Luffy was still asleep so he wasn't running around to.
"Hey girl! You better stay away from that equipment its expensive!" A voice to the left of Robin shouted as she reached up and tried to touch one of the machines.
"Eh? Oh ok." Robin retracted her hand to see a man in a yellow construction hat walk over to her. "So um you work here?"
The man stared at her with a hard look on his face before it broke into a grin. "I sure do. How about a battle?"
Wow that was fast! Robin hadn't expected to be asked for a battle that abruptly but she was always up for one! "A battle? Well I am not ever one to turn one down. How about a two on two battle ok?"
"All right sounds good to me! Machop lets go!"
"Ace let's do this!"
Both of the pokemon were released in a flash. The Machop smashed its fists together ready for battle. Ace though would have raised an eyebrow if he had one. Another battle? Well he could do that, Ace thought his stance was easy and relaxed.
"Machop let's start this off with your Low Kick!"
"Ace you can counter with Ember!"
The Machop took off towards the Chimchar and sliding down on the ground knocking Ace's feet from under him. The Chimchar was waiting for that though, Ace was good at fighting and didn't hide it at all, instead of bracing himself Ace rolled with the hit and as he fell he blasted the Machop right in the face with the Ember. When Ace landed he rolled back up onto his feet a confident grin on his face. Meanwhile the Machop cried out and did its best to stamp out the fires on his face.
"Heh, Great job Ace!" Robin congratulated her new friend.
"Your Chimchar is pretty good but don't count my Machop out. Machop lets show them your Karate Chop!"
"Ace use your Scratch attack!"
Letting out a cry the Machop raised its arm and brought it smashing down right into the spot that Ace had been. The agile Chimchar and sidestepped and doing his best to avoid the strong arm as he brought his claws up and scrapped them against the others muscles. The attack wasn't very strong due to Ace sacrificing an optimal position to avoid the damage the Karate Chop would have inflicted.

When Karrigan was finished with her breakfast she pushed her plate away from her, as Zaira was trying to lick it clean. She felt much better now that her stomach was full, and as she listened to the exchange between Bill and Venerax she stood up and began to clear the dirty dishes and pile them back onto the trolley. She would have felt bad having not done anything at all. The Shinx, meanwhile, had jumped down and was busy searching the floor for any stray crumbs to lap up. She'd had more than enough to eat, so she was just keeping herself busy. Karrigan had also taken the time to pocket a few apples and pieces of fruit so she could give them to Ikouma later, and she knew Aegeus would be fine burrowing underground and devouring some tasty (and possibly nutritious?) rocks.
It seemed Bill would be quite busy going over the information he'd gathered on Venerax's Porygon, so she excused herself and started to head outside, intent on getting training in. She paused at the door, and turned back to Venerax, seeing as Bill had told him to occupy himself for the day. "I'm going outside to get some training in with my Pokemon, you're more than welcome to join me, if you want."
=-=-=-=-= I knew that was coming, Jaeshan thought, looking quickly to Blaziken. She was already looking considerably weaker from the Toxic, and Jaeshan really didn't want her getting blasted by Exeggutor's Psychic attack. "Use Quick Attack," he called, sure it would be enough to get Blaziken out of the way of the dangerous attack.
Blaziken couldn't help but agree with Jaeshan's command and with a few strides of her long, powerful legs she was racing across the grassy battlefield. She avoided the Psychic attack with ease, despite the steadily strengthening poison creeping through her veins, and kept her momentum up as he veered towards the Exeggutor, swinging her left leg out and landing a quick kick to the Coconut Pokemon's midsection.
=-=-=-=-= "Wow, Blaziken is pretty impressive," Erika commented, quite impressed by the Blaze Pokemon's speed and maneuverability. Exeggutor's heads all grunted in pain from the kick they'd just received, though granted, they and their trainer knew that being on the receiving end of a Quick Attack was much better than a Flamethrower or Blaze Kick. "Impressive indeed," the gym leader continued, bringing her hands up to her chin. She wore a bit of a playful smile. "Let's see how impressive she is after this! Exeggutor, Confusion!"
All pairs of the Exeggutor's eyes began to glow with a golden hue as it executed another Psychic-type attack, though this one didn't take as much time to pull off, and soon the Coconut Pokemon directed it at the retreating Blaziken - she couldn't dodge forever!

"All right Machop you got them just where you want them! Reverse that Karate Chop!"
"Reverse Karate Chop?" Robin didn't like the sound of that.
Robin had a very good reason not to like the sound of that to. The Machop nodded and quick as lightening the fighting type pokemon's arm slammed backwards in a perfect Karate Chop right into Ace's gut. The poor fire pokemon was sent flying back into a wall nearby. Ace slid down the wall clutching his stomach with wide blue eyes. He landed at the bottom with a small thump and he picked himself up somewhat shakily. He had never been hit that hard by anything before! Doing his best to shake off the damage Ace got up and paused for a second as he looked at his hand. It was glowing? His hand had never glowed before, not that he knew about anyway, why was it doing that.
'Ouch! That looked like it really hurt.' Robin winced as she watched Ace get hit and then slam into a wall. She was still proud that he managed to get up though after such a powerful attack. "Eh? Why are you glowing Ace? That's so cool though!" Robin grinned happily and clapped her hands at her pokemons neat trick. Of course neither Ace nor Robin knew that his Blaze ability had been activated so that was why he was glowing so the next move choice was just pure luck. "All right let's blast them with Ember!"
Ember? Yeah Ember sounded good, Ace didn't really want to get close enough to experience another hit from that Machop! Taking a deep breath Ace let loose a wave of flames that was more like a Fire Blast then an Ember attack!
"Wohahoo!" That was one impressive Ember! Robin didn't know why it was so strong but she wasn't going to complain as she watched Ace roast that Machop. The poor fighting pokemon coughed up some black smoke before it fell down to the ground knocked out. Ace wasn't doing much better, her Chimchar sank down to the ground tired and pretty much out for the next battle. "Wa-how! Ace you did great!" Robin cheered before she recalled her pokemon into his pokeball. She didn't want him getting more hurt then he was. "All right for my next round I am gunna piiiick... Hmm, Oh Slowpoke! I pick you Slowpoke!" Tossing out the pokeball holding Slowpoke Robin grinned at her choice as the dopey pokemon appeared on the field.
"A Slowpoke? Well I am going to pick my Nosepass!" The construction worker released a strange looking pokemon with a huge nose on its face.
"Wow! Check out the nose on that thing!" Robin laughed as she spotted the new pokemon. It was a good thing she didn't have a malicious bone in her body or the other pokemon might have been offended.

A device on Blaine's belt began to beep furiously. "Yeah, yeah, I got it." he grumbled, clicking it off. "I pay you. I decide when we leave." He walked off, muttering to himself. A few seconds later, the Gym Leader poked his head out from behind the door. "If you run into any trouble, just give a shout and Magmortar will take care of it!" Mike blinked.
Underneath the arena, Napalm was enjoying a relaxing lava bath. The lava was a comfortable 1045 degrees, just perfect for a swim. The Magmar tread the 'water' with a smile on his face. For fun, he put his beak to the surface and sucked in a mouthful of molten rock, then leaned back and sprayed like a Donphan at a watering hole. The lava sprinkled down like rain. Napalm splashed about like a toddler in a kiddie pool as he enjoyed the molten shower. Suffice to say, this was one happy Magmar.
Napalm sunk down until only his eyes and forehead were above the surface. It was time for an exploratory dive. After a few bobs, he hopped in the air like a fish and dove underneath the waves. Napalm kicked his feet and swam down to the bottom. As he descended the depth of the volcano, the Magmar felt the lava rush across his body, and his wounds began to close. It felt better than all the times he had been healed at the Pokemon Center. Napalm touched down on the floor of the volcano and looked around. He wondered where that powerful Pokemon was that lived under here. The older man said that it was a later stage of Magmar. Napalm smiled at the thought. He loved the feeling of his first evolution, and now that he knew that he could change into something stronger, he was excited all over again. Napalm sat down at the bottom, wondering where that other Pokemon was. "Maaag." he hummed, bubbles rising slowly from his mouth.
A few minutes passed as Napalm waited for the other Pokemon to come by. He sat down on the bottom of the volcano, his hands at his sides. The Magmar bobbed back and forth, enjoying the lava as he waited. "Mag. Mar. Mag. Mar." Suddenly, there was a rumble in the distance. Napalm stood up. The lava around him began to boil even more harshly as the rumbling got closer. It was approaching fast. Napalm saw the Magmortar race towards him. Its arm cannons were pointed backwards and blasting a steady stream of fire, making the Pokemon a living rocket. He was approaching at an incredible speed. Napalm suddenly felt a bit uneasy, and readied himself.
When it got closer, the Magmortar stopped firing its cannons. It threw them forward and shot a quick burst to slow itself down. Napalm nearly fell over from the rush of lava as the Magmortar suddenly stopped right in front of him. The Magmar flailed his arms to regain balance, finally shifting his weight and stomping his foot to the ground. Napalm looked up at the much larger Pokemon, who did nothing but stare back. He slowly raised his arms into his ready pose, and watched as the Magmortar smirked in response. The Blast Pokemon raised its arm, and Napalm flinched. To the Magmar's surprise, he wasn't pounded into the ground like a nail, but instead, lightly patted on the head. "Mar?" Napalm was confused, but happy that it wasn't what he initially thought was going to happen. For a good long while, the Mags sat about and engaged in small talk. They spoke about their previous battles, their trainers, and other things that flaming ducks would find interesting.
Mike ran his fingers through his hair. "You know," He said to himself when his fingers got caught in his hair. "Napalm's got the right idea. I haven't cleaned up in a while..." It had been a good few days, and there was a great deal of burnt clumps and dried blood in it. And he bet his broken nose and cracked forehead looked less than idea. "Yeah...let's go find a shower...er, me." Mike walked over to the laboratory door and unlocked it. He poked around for a bit until he found the shower. Oddly enough, it was as far away from the bathroom as architecturally possible. "Blaine sure has a strange sense of fung shui, or feng schway. Whatever." Mike threw off his clothes, frowning as he didn't notice a different from when they were on. He was still hot. His feet left small burn marks in the ground as he walked. "Fantastic." Mike groaned.
He walked into the stall and turned on the water. When the water touched his skin, he was greeted with a hideous sizzling noise and the most horrible pain. Steam poured from his body as the water showered on him, and his skin began to redden and bubble. Mike shrieked in pain and slammed against the side of the stall. "Stop! STOP! CUT IT OUT!" He reached for the handle and cranked it to the side. It snapped off in his grip, and water shot out from the exposed pipe. It slammed him in the face, muffling his screams. The pain was soon too much to bear and Mike's body shut down from the shock, and he collapsed on the tile floor as the water rained down on him, causing his skin to steam and bubble further.
"Magmar." Napalm said with a nod after an insightful anecdote from his new friend. His good time was interrupted when he heard a loud noise. It was faint, but unfortunately, he knew it all too well. Mike was in trouble! Napalm kicked off the floor of the volcano and shot up to the surface. The Magmar exploded from the lava and searched for the source of the scream. All he saw was Camerae looking around in confusion. There was another scream, but it was cut short. It was coming from the lab! Napalm raced towards the door, rearing back a flaming fist and smashing it into the large metal door. The door buckled under the attack, and after a few more punches, came flying off of the handle. Napalm ran into the room. "MAR!" His claws clicked loudly against the floor as he ran through Blaine's lab. Napalm heard some noise in a nearby room, and steam pouring out from the crack on the bottom. The Magmar ran over and ripped the door from the hinges. Napalm waved his hands to disperse the steam, and came across a terrifying sight. Mike was on the ground in a pool of water, motionless. His skin was almost completely red, and boils covered most of his body. "Magmar!" Napalm screamed, as he rushed over to help his trainer.

Eris cringed a little as the poison continued to work its way into her system but again she tried to shrug it off as best she could. The Quilava looked back over her shoulder at Riza, waiting for her next command, which the raven haired girl was about to give. "Try another Ember," Riza called, and the Quilava was quick to obey. Her flames were still blazing from the last time so it didn't take much time for her to rear back her head and cover the Sandshrew with a blanket of flames.
"Hang in there Sandshrew!" Devon shouted. "Let's use that special move I taught you yesterday!" The Sandshrew gave a cheer despite having just been partially charred by Eris' ember attack and once again its claws tore into the ground, and it disappeared in a cloud of sand and dust. As the dust cleared a large hole was now visible where the Sandshrew once had been standing.
"Not Dig," groaned Riza, but she had seen it coming. It was a pretty good move to teach a ground-type like Sandshrew, but that being said she had no idea how to counter it. Eris looked a bit nervous as well now that her opponent was no longer in sight, and she looked down at her feet, feeling a bit woozy from the poison. She wasn't sure where or when the Sandshrew would pop up and try to attack but she was going to try to be ready. * * * * * The atmosphere within the forest was quiet and tranquil, very different to the noise and hustle and bustle of the city that Katie had grown up with. Though it was different and somewhat new, Katie actually found that she enjoyed the quiet, though it was far from being silent. She could hear the cries of a lonely Starly that had gotten separated from its flock, and there was a rustling of leaves nearby as well. When Katie looked over to investigate she discovered a Burmy gathering new leaves for its cloak. 'I bet this place is never fully silent,' she thought as she walked, careful to avoid tripping over the large tree roots that were sticking up out of the ground. The path she was following was blanketed in old pine needles, though the forest itself was a fairly even mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. Katie couldn't help but wonder what it was like in here during the winter. "Probably much brighter for one," she murmured to herself.
The path she was following eventually split off into two, though her map told her that both would eventually lead her back out of the forest. "I guess some people like the scenic route," she said again, feeling a little silly for talking to herself. A small chirping noise from nearby caught her attention and she looked over to see a Wurmple slowly climbing up the trunk of an old, mostly dead tree. It looked back at her and blinked a few times before continuing on its way, not bothered by the human in the slightest.

After spending a good deal of time napping, Ryka awoke to a face-full of purple fur. She laughed to herself, picked up the Espeon, and decided to perch herself by a railing to watch the passing ocean. In the far off distance, she pointed out the giant land mass that was Johto. This ferry is moving very fast, if we're already near Johto... She pondered over this and many other things for a good while, before deciding to sit down and relax more.
Upon returning to her seat, Ryka found that it was mostly taken up by a large purple mass of a dress. Disappointedly, she searched around the cabin for another seat, but found none that were vacant. Ryka quietly approached the lady in the purple dress and motioned towards the empty space beside her.
"Excuse me, is this seat taken?" As she asked, she examined the lady. She looks a bit strange... Ryka thought, maybe she is foreign? But I do adore her style. It was obvious that the lady loved purple, and anyone who loved purple sat well in Ryka's book.

Devon seemed pleased with this turn of events as now it was Riza's turn to be in the dark about the whereabouts of her opponent. However, the raven haired girl wasn't nearly as distressed about the situation as Devon thought she'd be. Riza stared at the hole in which the Sandshrew had disappeared, not sure of the best way to try and have Eris counter the upcoming attack. Smokescreen would be useless as the Sandshrew would simply sense where Eris was due to her movements above ground, so she really was in a bit of a pickle. As she eyed the hole, however, she had an idea. "Eris! Jump in the hole!" she shouted. The Quilava looked back at her trainer with wide eyes. She wasn't serious, was she? Evidently, she was as Riza pointed at the hole once more. Figuring she had nothing to lose, Eris sped towards the opening in the ground and dove in.
"Hey, you can't do that!" Devon objected loudly. "Sandshrew watch out, its coming after you!" Beneath the ground, the Sandshrew let out a surprised squeak as it lost track of its target.
"Says who?" Riza replied with a shrug. "Eris, chase it down and use Ember, full blast!" Being much quicker than her opponent had its advantages and so the Quilava had no trouble catching up to her foe, even as the poison continued to leech away her stamina. As soon as the ground-type was within her sights Eris opened her mouth and spewed hot embers all over her opponent who couldn't do anything but curl into a ball to try and deflect some of the damage. * * * * * Katie closed her eyes and breathed in the lovely scent of the forest. She was still standing at the spot where the path split off, and after a few moments she headed to the left, figuring that by taking this longer route she would have a greater chance of encountering Pokemon. She recalled thinking to herself as she passed by the Valley Windworks the first time that she wouldn't be capturing anymore Pokemon until her first four had grown stronger, and she laughed when she realized just how badly she had contradicted herself. 'But Miles was incredible! He was so smart and fast, and strong too, I just couldn't not capture him,' she thought as she walked.
She was still thinking about her Buizel when she came upon a clearing of sorts. It was very picturesque, like it was straight out of a painting. It was very green and very ambient, and right in the center was a large, moss covered rock. A beam of sunlight was streaming down onto it, and Katie was sure there was something very special about this place. * * * * * Looking up at the girl from her magazine, the elegantly-dressed woman smiled apologetically. "Mais oui, but of course! Please sit down!" She cried, her voice thick with a French accent. She adjusted her gown so that it didn't take up nearly as much room, and she placed the magazine on her lap. The cover featured a photo of a smiling Lillian, the well-known contest emcee of Kanto. Fantina then spotted the purple Espeon in the girl's arms, and nearly squealed with joy. "Ooh! Does that Espeon belong to you? Elle est très magnifique!"

Ryka gave a warm smile and sat down. "Thank you very much." Ryka couldn't help but to examine the lady more. She radiated grace and elegance. Her purple dress was beautiful to Ryka; she just couldn't take her eyes off of it. She also took notice of the magazine in the lady's lap, but Ryka didn't recognize the person featured on the cover. However, she picked out the word "contest" written in bold - what kind of contest was this? It piqued Ryka's interest almost as much as the lady in front of her did.
"Yes, Iris is my best friend. Thank you." Ryka replied with an even bigger smile. Something about this woman acknowledging them made Ryka want to smile. Iris too, it seemed, for the Espeon mewed in delight. She wiggled out of Ryka's arms and padded across Ryka's lap, nestling comfortably in between the two women. Ryka smiled again, this time offering her hand to the lady. "It is a pleasure to meet you, miss. My name is Ryka."

"No no no no, this can't be happening!" Devon shouted, pulling at his long, unruly hair. "Since when do you get to use my attacks against me?!" he wailed.
"Since I'm a coordinator in training," Riza retorted quickly. "And, if we were being judged right now, I'm sure I'd be scoring some massive points."
"I'll show you points," the boy grumbled, pointing at the ground as though his Sandshrew could see him. "Sandshrew, its got nowhere to go! Tear into it with Fury Swipes!" Still tucked into a ball, the Sandshrew was able to turn around quickly and it sprang forward, slashing at Eris with its razor sharp claws. A moment or so later both Pokemon burst out of the ground in a mess of dirt and rocks with Eris looking like she got the worst of it. Combined with the poison she'd been suffering from, she just didn't have the energy to continue anymore and she slumped over on the ground, her flames extinguishing themselves.
"Oh, Eris!" Riza cried, clenching a fist. The poor Quilava was completely out of it. She glanced over at the Sandshrew, a little annoyed to see that it still looked eager to fight. 'Diemia could finish it off really quick, but I don't want this to be too easy. Plua would be immune to its Dig attack, and she hasn't had a chance to battle yet so my mind's made up!" She released the Fearow onto the field and the large bird made an indignant squawk before looking around. She seemed to have been summoned to battle, which was fine with her! She turned to look back at her new trainer, but instead got a face full of blue as Riza had touched the Fly HM temporarily given to her by Crenu to the Fearow's forehead. "That ought to do it," she said once the disc stopped glowing and she tucked it away. "Let's give this kid a thrashing," she said, and the Fearow nodded eagerly. * * * * * "So this is Moss Rock," Katie said to herself after taking a picture with her phone and doing a quick search online, though it took longer than she liked because reception out here was kind of bad. She'd heard about this place in Eterna Forest before but it hadn't been marked on the map, though it did explain why the one trail looped around the long way instead of going directly through to Eterna City.
"Is it really a special power of this rock that makes Eevee evolve into Leafeon?" she questioned aloud, placing her hand on the mossy stone. It felt cool and damp to the touch, and the moss was velvety and soft. Looking around Katie saw that she was being observed by several forest dwelling Pokemon, and she quickly withdrew her hand and took a few steps back.
"Sorry," she said quickly, not wanting to upset the Pokemon. "I was just checking it out, is all." They all continued to watch her as she made her way back down the trail, her pace quicker than it had been before. 'I'll have to remember this is here,' she thought to herself, looking down at the picture she'd taken. "What an amazing thing to see." * * * * * "It iz a pleasure to meet you too, Ryka," Fantina replied, shaking the girl's hand eagerly. "And Iris, of course! De jolis noms, très bon!" She clapped excitedly, the sound muffled by the long gloves she wore. She practically jumped up from her seat and twirled around, her gorgeous gown fanning out around her and sparkling in the sunlight. Nearby people were now looking at her like she was out of her mind, but Fantina didn't seem to care in the slightest. "Now, allow me to introduce myself, as well! Je suis l'élégante et gracieuse Fantina!" A few people around her clapped, and she gave a very dramatic bow. "Merci! Merci! Mes fans adorent! Vous êtes tous tellement merveilleux!" She blew several kisses in the direction the applause had come from and she sat back down again. "Please tell me, Ryka, where are you off to on such a lovely day?"

"Wow.." Ryka was awed by this woman's stage presence. She found herself clapping along with the rest of the "fans". Clapping! She must be famous! Ryka realized with excitement. I still am not sure who she is...but there's clapping, and fans! I knew that there was something special about her!
"Oh, me? I am on my way to Vermillion City to challenge the Vermillion Gym." Ryka said with a nod, accompanied by Iris's mew. When trying to think about the gym battle, however, Ryka's mind continued to wander to this "contest". Did Fantina participate in these contests? "And may I ask where you are going, Miss Fantina?"

The predominantly blue boy laughed as his opponent's Scizor struggled to its feet. "It's just like old times, huh Ben?" The mostly red boy, now identified as Ben, only chuckled in response. "Oh please." 'Blue' said with a scoff. "Don't act like you've got a trick up your sleeve. You know as well as I do that this fights over!" He ordered for his Skarmory to deal the final blow. "Aerial Ace!" he shouted. With a loud shriek, the Skarmory folded its wings and dove.
Ben's Scizor looked back at its trainer. The boy nodded slowly and said something Sasha couldn't quite hear. The metal bug planted its feet and locked eyes with the descending Skarmory. It crossed its arms over its chest. It was ready. Sasha found herself holding her breath in the silence before the strike.
There was a loud smashing sound as the steel bird collided with the bug. The Skarmory scraped and pecked at the Scizor, who was doing all he could to keep the birds beak away from his face. Sparks flew as they ground against each other.
"Game over Ben!" 'Blue' cheered, wearing a smug smile. "Hold on, Jackie!" Ben shouted. "Just a few seconds longer!"
"Zor!" The Scizor clamped its right claw down on the Skarmory's wing. It screamed in anger and slashed at its legs with its talons. Jackie grunted in pain as he held on.
"You can do eet Jackie!" Sasha cheered. Ben looked over to the source of the noise and smiled. His attention snapped back to the fight.
"Alright! Now Counter!" Ben commanded. "What!?"
"Sciii!" Jacke pulled back its claw, and with all its remaining strength, slammed it into the Skarmory's chest. The bird's cries were brought to an abrupt end, and when Jackie released its grip, it fell to the ground in a pile. Ben cheered and ran over to his Pokemon while the other guy stood there with a dumb expression on his face. The crowd erupted in applause, applause Sasha happily took part in. The two shook hands and made some smartass comments about the fight and recalled their Pokemon. They started to walk off together, heading in the direction of Sasha and Keegan. The girl looked at her friend and smirked. "Game time." she said. "Don't you go anywhere people!" she shouted. "Z'hat was just z'he warm up!"
"Excusez-moi!" Sasha flagged down the two boys as they came closer. Ben looked over in surprise, smiling once he saw who it was. 'Blue' chuckled and playfully jabbed his friend with his elbow, not taking his eyes off the new girl.
"Yeah?" Ben said, still beaming from his victory.
"Great fight!" Sasha said, smiling pretty brightly herself. "Do you theenk you two have one more in you?"
"What, you wanna fight us both by yourself?" 'Blue' asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh non, non, non. Ce n'est pas ce que je voulais dire." Sasha waved her hands. "Me and my friend want to challenge you to a double battle." She pointed behind her to Keegan. The two boys took one look at Keegan and smiled.
"Oh yeah," 'Blue' said. "You're so on. Just let me heal up my Pokemon." He rummaged through his bag and took out a Revive and two Hyper Potions, tossing one to Ben. "I'm Jacob." "Sasha Jennings Beauchamp z'he Fourth." she replied. "Two Pokemon each, z'hen?" "Uh, you got it!" "Awesome!" Sasha clapped her hands together and turned to Keegan. As soon as she turned around, her sweet smile turned into something much more devious. Putting her cutesy expression back on, Sasha grabbed Keegan's hand and led him to the square. The crowd oo'd and aahh'd at the two as they walked into the center of the arena. Sasha, always one for a good audience, blew them kisses. The two boys stood on the other side, giving each other a thumbs up. "Ready boys?" Sasha asked playfully. "Ready!"
Ben threw a Pokeball, releasing a Mawille. Sasha sent a Pokeball flying, revealing her trusty Cacturne, Prickles. It was on.

Napalm rushed over to Mike and gently put his claws underneath him. The water began to boil as the Magmar leaned down and lifted the boy off the ground. Napalm winced when he saw his trainer's face. It was about as red as he was and completely covered in boils. Moving carefully, Napalm placed Mike lightly on the floor outside of the bathroom where the water hadn't reached yet. Where were Mike's Pokeballs? He needed help. Portabello would know what to do. He always knew what to do. Napalm spotted Mike's clothes in a ball on the floor and dug through them. Sure enough, there was his belt lined with Pokeballs, as well as some in his shorts pockets. He had to be careful. One of these contained Titanium, and releasing him would only make things worse. With no time to waste, he picked up a Pokeball and hit it against the ground. It burst open, and when the light dimmed, it revealed...
"H'yaaany'aaa!" Beacon!? Not even remotely close! Napalm slapped his forehead. He didn't know how to pull them back into the ball. Nevermind! He tapped another one to the floor. This one released Xanthos, who looked around anxiously. He noticed Napalm, and lowered himself in a ready stance. "Mag!" Napalm said, holding up a hand in protest as the other hit another ball on the ground. Third time seemed to be the charm, as a shower of light revealed the coveted Breloom. Napalm threw his arms up in joy, giving Xanthos just the opening he needed. The lobster tackled his new target while Beacon wandered off into the lab somewhere.
What's going on, Napalm? Portabello asked, curious as to why he was released in a bathroom of all places.
Mike was just-ungh-washing up, then I heard him-agh-scream! replied the Magmar as he wrestled Xanthos. It wasn't going so well. He's behind you!
Portabello turned around and saw his master lying on the ground, steam rising from his body and his skin a sickly red. Master! he cried.
A little-argh-help here! Napalm pleaded, quickly becoming overpowered by the much stronger Crawduant. The Breloom quickly about faced.
Desist, you simple-minded BEAST! Before Napalm could even blink, Xanthos was sent flying across the room into the wall. The lobster slid down the wall and curled up, soundly beaten. But...he didn't even see Portabello move. For a moment, the Magmar was frozen in awe, making a mental note to never tick off this Grass Pokemon. Portabello knelt down beside his master. His eyes fluttered slightly as he fought off the usual jarring mental chatter. He's alive. I wonder what did this to him?
Ever since he was brought back by that Pokemon, Mike's body has become more like mine. Maybe his new powers come with the weaknesses present in all Fire Pokemon? The Magmar mused.
With Moltres imparting a great deal of his essence to revive Master, and Master's newfound ability to make flames, it would make a great deal of sense for his newly changed body to be adverse to water. Portabello pointed to a track of clear skin that wrapped around Mike's stomach. What do you suppose this is?
Napalm narrowed his eyes, then looked at his hands. That's where I picked him up. When I first saw him, he was red there as well.
Portabello let out a curious hum. Taking Napalm's hand in his, the Breloom lightly placed it on Mike's reddened back. To their surprise, it left a print-mark of clear, healthy skin. Perhaps you and Master are more alike than you think. Portabello stood up and took a step back. Water hurts him. Flames heal him. Fascinating. Please, keep at it.
Napalm rose to his feet and took in a deep breath. After a moments hesitation, he loosed a stream of fire onto his trainer. When he stopped, a great deal of Mike's body was clear, and looking much better than before. Both Pokemon smiled, and quickly turned him over. After a few moments, Mike looked good as new. Even his hair looked less matted and clumped. I'm not sure how that is even possible for a human, but I like it.
Portabello chuckled. Oh Master, you never cease to amaze me. Off in the distance, a loud crash could be heard, followed by a series of honks.

Blaine tapped furiously on his laptop keyboard as he sat in his seat. The Gym Leader searched inside every database he could for human beings with the ability to breathe fire. Aside from some failed, and understandably not too well known, experiments, there wasn't a single result. Blaine scratched his bald head. "Strange. Very strange."
"What's strange?" the pilot asked, looking over his shoulder.
"Nothing. Just keep flying." The elder man dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "How much farther?"
"Not too much longer. Not much can outrace this helicopter." No sooner did he say that than a trainer on a Pidgeot blast right by him. Seconds later, the girl's 'wheeeeee!' raced past, trying to catch up. The pilot grumbled and gripped his controls.
"Good. I don't want us gone any longer than we have to be." Blaine went back to his search. "I hope Mike is fairing well back at the Gym."

"Ugh..." Mike groaned as he came to. His eyes rolled around in his head as he sat himself up.
Are you alright, Master? Portabello asked, offering Mike a hand.
"What happened?" he asked, looking around. "Why is the bathroom completely wrecked, Xanthos on the ground, and-" he sniffed the air. "What smells so good?"
Napalm found you lying in a puddle of steaming water. We think that with your new body, pressurized water hurts you just like a fire Pokemon.
"Oh right, I remember now. I turned on the water and it hurt like hell!" Mike looked down at his skin, which seemed no worse for the wear. In fact, it felt smoother and cleaner than before.
It appears that you can no longer take showers, Master. At least not without severely injuring yourself.
"Well that's just ******** perfect."
But it would appear that flames have a similar effect on you that water does to normal humans. Napalm's fire had a healing effect on you when he moved you from the water, and direct contact with flames completely cleaned your skin and body up. Even your hair.
Mike ran his fingers through his hair. Just like Portabello said, it was silky and smooth. No more dried blood or tangled bangs. "Well now isn't that just the Beedrill's knees." he said with a happy chuckle, then wrapping his arms around his Magmar's waist. "Warm..." he said with a smile. "Wait. I'm still naked."
Indeed you are, Master.
After throwing his Pokemon out of the bathroom, Mike put his clothes back on and recalled Xanthos. As he refit his Pokeballs, he noticed that one extra one was open. "Hey Portabello!"
Yes, master? asked the Breloom as he waited outside the door.
"Who else is out besides you, Napalm and Camerae?"
Beacon, sir.
"Oh s**t."
