She leaned up against a tree sliding slowly to the ground. Are you sure you're not lying? You seem so nervous. But then, I guess I am too.

"I just...I don't understand," he sighed pacing again. "It goes against all the conventions of your species...of mine as well..."

"I know. I can handle that though. What I'm more concerned with is you. You haven't really said anything about actually being with me." She turned her head and stared at a a fern, playing with it's fronds. She needed to do something or else she would cry, and that wouldn't solve anything right now.

"Fate didn't think so." She twisted the frond around her hoof now, tightly wrapping it so that it cut into her. "But if you think you are, why don't you get worthy?"

"Careful!" he said taking the injured hoof in his. "Callista, it's not that simple..." he closed his eyes and focused on the energies that flowed around them directing the forces towards healing the cut. "I couldn't even protect you from a vampire, remember?"

"I don't care about that." Callista looked down at her hoof. It looked so pretty against his sharp black coat. She shook her head. "Besides, there may never be another vampire attack on me."

"But what if there is?" he asked quietly as he gently turned her hoof over to make certain all traces of the injury were removed.

"But I don't want you fighting it..." Valzar said quietly. That was an understatement. The idea of Callista battling a vampire scared him to death.

Callista sighed. "Then we can live near other Carpathians and let them fight the vampires. That won't be terrible, and it keeps me from fighting them and you from fighting them."

Valzar shifted uncomfortably. The idea of living in such close proximity to other powerful beings was equally as alarming. All Valzar had ever known was his family...and Callista.

"You don't like that idea either?" Callista looked at her hoof, stretching it and testing it. He did a good job healing it.

"Oh..." It was Callista's turn to be uncomfortable now. "No wonder you're not interested in this then...how can I make it more appealing?"
