Good question, Well, I've only played 3 of the games so I'll just post those ones....
RnK: Lyn, Jaffar, Nino, Pent, Guy
TSS: Joshua, Cormag, Ephraim, Eirika, L'Arachel
PoR: Ike, Lethe, Ilyana, Nephnee, Janaff

I thought all the characters in all the games are well built out, it's hard to pick a favorite I like them all. smile
But I would have to say..
FE7: Karla, Karel, Guy, Nino, Lucius, Pent, and Matthew
FE8: Joshua, Marisa, Myrrh, and Knoll
FE9: Mist, Lethe, Reyson, Janaff, Zihark, Lucia
FE10: basically the same as 9 except Leanne, Volug, Nailah, and Sothe added to it.

Meh...favorite characters...?
If I choose to list more than one for a game, the list won't end x___x (practically..)...so I'll think really hard and pick only one character I like most from each I've played xP
FE7: Um, yea, Jaffar! <333 (that one wasn't hard at all! x3)
FE8: Hmm...Colm...or Cormag...GAH! (Cormag, prolly)
FE9: Oh man...
Sssoren, I think.
FE10: ...um...yah, still Soren. (subject to change...o.o)
YAR!!! I have too many favorite characters in 9/10...Soren, you lucked out by having such a touching backstory >.>

Hm, favourite characters.. I'm not sure, really. There are lots! From FE9 and 10 there's Ike and Sothe, and Marcia! Yay pegasus knights!(My favourite class, besides archers) There are more, but I'm being lazy right now. =3=

My favorite is Soren. I like a lot of characters very very much but he tops the list! ...and yes, his back story helps a lot. I find his blunt personality endearing as well ((also why I find Lethe hilarious)).
I really love a lot of the Laguz characters as well... I have a thing for.... them?? Hahaha, I just like a lot of their personalities cuz they're all quite quirky in really cute ways. I guess that could be said about a lot of FE characters though so maybe I just like tails , fangs, cute ears, wings, and other such things.

I love too many to list (Soren being #1). However, there's this one character in particular that I like, but no one else seems to appreciate.
Vaida. (FE7)
Despite how many female front liners we have, there aren't enough females with visible scars. I really liked what she said in one support conversation: "And I was lucky it was my face… Had it been my arm, I wouldn’t be able to fight now…" It's also cool that she keeps her hair short. Practicality FTW.
I'm tired of seeing frail-looking female characters, even if they're strong in the game. Strong girls should be muscular -- they don't have to be beefy, but they should look lithe and athletic. They should look like they belong on the battlefield, not at some fancy tea party in a palace.
I don't mind pretty faces. Just delicate bodies.

Volke is my favorite personality-wise, and Zihark in battle, but I prefer him a myrmidon.

@Keiii: True, those are good points.
(How are Oliver's stats in Radiant Dawn? I feel like I want to use him upon seeing how his supports go, but his PoR stats are lousy for the extra maps...)

@ Rhys: Oliver is okay, and I'm pretty sure that he is third tier. But, his starts are probably dismal in comparison to Rhys or Laura. My first playthrough, When I got Oliver, Rhys outclassed him immensely, and also isn't a disgusting, fat, creepy thing.
@Keiii: Yeah, that is a good point. But, a Third Tier Meg (Marshall) is just amazing. Vaida probably is the only combat-prepped female in most of Fire Emblem, so she gets points for that.
In case I haven't already, and if I have then here it is again, my favroite characters:
FE4 Gen 1: Azel, Tiltyu, Ira, Midir, Dew
Azel, Tiltyu and Ira all all great units, but Midir and Dew surprised me with their immense pwn at higher levels.
FE4 Gen 2: Everyone but Hannibal and Shanan.
Hannibal is ick, and Shanan is only good with Balmunk. Everyone else is fine.
FE6: Rei, Lilina
Lilina is the best mage EVAR! Enough to compete with Soren. Rei has really grown on me since he became my character. I liked him before, but he is cooler now. :p
FE7: Lucius, Rebecca, Nino
Lucius is a mage tank, and so is Nino. I like Rebecca because one time, she got RNG uber-blessed and was easily able to take care of most of Nergal's morphs, and Nergal himself.
FE8: Nobody.
The characters are just bleh.
FE9: Soren, Ilyana, Mia, Volke, Brom, The Greil mercenaries
Soren is uber-epic-super-pwn. Ilyana is almost as good, and looks really cool as a Sage in FE9. Mia is pure death. Zihark has the cool battle sprite, but Mia is just too cool. Volke is an Assassin with a great character, enuogh said. Brom, despite the Gatrie fans everywhere, is a good unit. He turned out probably as good as Gatrie would have, and he has anit-generic black armor. The griel Mercenaries are the best units in teh game, so they deserve to be here. Except Shinon. Rolf is better.
FE10: Meg, Eddie, Leonardo, Nolan, Aran, Laura, Pelleas
This group is my current workhorses for the upcoming Final Chapters. Since I used mostly the Greil Mercs last time, the Dawn Brigade is getting usage this time. Eddie is a TANK. Leonardo is good, but he can suffer from bad speed. Nolan has the Speed, Skill, and Resistance that Boyd usually lacks early on. Aran is extremely balanced, especially if you use BEXP to give him more speed. Laura is a surprisingly good unit, returning to the uber-fast healer in all the other FEs. Rhys is lacking in speed this time around, and Laura is also good in all other stats too. Pelleas, being the only Dark Mage in the game, gets a spot here. Also, his spells are really good special effects, with the damage being good to boot.
MEG IS AWESOME! She is like a Swordmaster with altered caps. her luck is through the roof, and her speed, magic, and resistance grow really well. Her Strength, Skill, and Defense are good, too, but they may not turn out as well. That's what BEXP is for. I just love watching Marshall Meg deflect EVERYTHING that comes her way. And what does hit her either does no damage or is healed on my turn by Imbue.
meh. This probably sounds more like it'd be in the strategy section, but the statistics are a huge part of why I like most of these guys.
