sigh....okay let me share something with you...this isnte precise but its a good example

notice the two crystals? they make the lightsaber what it is. casing is inconsequential. basically how a lightsaber works is energy pouring through crystals and focusing into a beam of "coherent light"

because this science belongs to star wars and earth i cant even dare to explain it but yeah i think you get the idea.

theyd be the same as in SW: highly dangerous. only here there are thousands of idiot fanboy/girls who would try to get their hands on the real thing and cause an accident with it.

I think they would have some practical uses in real life. Non combat uses. I almost did a speech in my Communications 100 class on lightsabers. (I still don't like giving speeches)

*laughs* It would be so effective too. Just think how easy construction could be or even just home improvement. Be sure to keep it in a safe place away from children though.

well... it is a tool but i dont think cutting through wood or so would be so helpful or tomatoes. it isnt amazingly precise like a knife in that situation. and im certain the wood would catch fire. i dunno. useful yes but would it be a good thing for a lot of people to have them? NOOO!
