Lina hadn't run far before she'd fallen to her knees, face red and chest heaving.

Fortunately the run had fulfilled its purpose; she had calmed down considerably. Once her racing heart had calmed down she was able to think clearer.

God, not again. Please not again. If she kept acting like this...she was a burden enough as it already was. Sooner or later they'd figure it out...and then what? Well, she knew Kenth would be pissed as hell. And Alex...?

I'm not a hero. I can't be....

She picked herself up and started back towards the gathering site, her growling stomach permeating her demanding cramps. She wanted Pocky....

Dante nodded to Herei and Kenth, then took up a place beside, but not close to, Henry. "So you are a researcher, then. From what I've gathered the people here are acting like zombies. Have you run diagnostic tests and analyses of the remains you've found? Before this all happened?"

“I know that you‘re angry, Kenth, but you still shouldn’t throw things.” Greg said softly in a joking voice. After all in their family Kenth had normally been the one most likely to talk things out, and least likely to come to blows or any sort of violence.

Greg had come over to the group again after Lina had run off in time to see Kenth throw his badge, and see it almost hit the other man in the face. At least he knew that Kenth still had great aim.

He hadn’t actually planed on that coming out, he had been thinking it, but hadn’t planed on saying it. OH well. Mistakes happened. Even if they were unbelievably annoying.

-=+=-

So she had been ignored a little. She could understand. There were a lot of people who were quite a bit more interesting than she was there, and they were taking a lot more active role with this man than she and it wasn’t like she wasn’t used to being ignored. When she had started out lots of people had ignored her, if they were in a good mood. Besides, she supposed that her question was a little repetitive. He seemed okay, it just irked her a little that she couldn’t recall anyone asking him if he was.

“Heru Henry.” Irame said as she went up to where he and Dante were walking. “I hope that I am not being repetitive but are you alright? Physically I mean.” She looked over at Dante, knowing that the questions that he was asking were very good and that she should be asking similar ones. “And if you are alright, and if you have any of the remains would I be able to take a look at them?”

"If they were zombies, they'd be easier to handle," the man named Henry replied to Dante. "Animals would be a more suitable term." The man's face was drawn, passive in defeat; perhaps, if one looked close, they might see the smallest glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Before 'all this' was the disease from Luna's Cap. What a joke that was." He shook his head as he walked, leading the group through the terrain with familiarity. "I don't know anymore about the results than you do, sir. There's...not much to work with." He paled a little, his mouth set in a grim line.

"Just Henry, miss, I'm not Heru." He cast a quizzical glance at the woman, finally realizing the two next to him were elves. As if things weren't weird enough. "I'm fine, miss, just a little shaken from the ordeal." He shrugged, a faint shift of his lips indicating that he may have been smiling. "As for the remains, we'll see when we get back. I don't see a problem with it, but I'm not the only one on the project." The man had relaxed significantly, answering the questions truthfully and straight forward. They were almost to the shelter.

Alex had stopped a short ways after following the man, turning with a confused look on her face to look for Lina. She spotted the woman's pack, trotting over to pick it up and wait for her friend, her own pack still slung across her chest. She momentarily saw a shock of red hair, and realized Greg was near Kenth; she bit her lip, watching although she was far enough she couldn't hear anything, hoping she wouldn't have to intervene.

Lina wasn't long in coming; she stopped right in front of Alex and rested a moment, catching her breath before nodding to the other woman and taking her duffel bag, fishing out some more Pocky. "Thanks."

She looked forward a bit, smiling a little as she saw the man talking. "Seems as though our friend calmed down without me. That's good to know," she said, not in a sarcastic or resentful tone but one simply stating the facts.

Dante chuckled a bit. "Nonono. I mean, did you have a chance to examine the corpses before your group was ambushed?" he asked.

Then he fell into pensive silence. Animals...so this would be harder to deal with than the Undead back in Iliodean. Zombies were one thing--animals wer another. Zombies had the numbers and resilience to make up for their blank minds; animals were more frail but quick, cunning.

Dante didn't want to see something that was a combination of both of those.

“I am glad that you are alright. Although if they were zombies this would be much easier and over much quicker.” Irame said with a bit of a sigh. “I would be happier if they were, though it would be sad if they were all dead.” She looked over at Dante. He had to be thinking the same thing that she was. The creatures being like zombies and animals wasn’t a good thing. It was a very bad thing indeed.

Undead Irame could deal with very well, animals she was sure that someone in their goup would be able to deal with but the two combined… Besides if they didn’t have the undead characteristics she wouldn’t be able to do anything.

"I'm not older than fifteen," RuiZhi agreed, grinning broadly. "I don't know about smart, but I'm determined. 'Hell bent,' my sister likes to say. He," the boy pointed to the white-haired doctor as he flung his badge at the unfortunate man's head, "is the one who inspired me. And she," he pointed to the woman behind the man, who was trying not to laugh, "is my sister. The boy there," he pointed to the boy whose back was turned, although it was obvious the young man was not happy with the situation, "is my brother. He wants to be a doctor, too. I'm sure you can tell by our differences that we aren't blood related. They're all the family I have."

Although it didn't bother him to talk about it, it did get tiring to repeat that your family was dead, even more so that the family you had was all you needed. It could get old, seeing the same sympathetic and pitying glance. RuiZhi pushed himself up, brushing off the back of his robe as the group started to move, looking up to his sister as she came to get Lina's bag. "I hope this means everything is resolved," he smiled up at her. "Oh! This is Mr...uh, Sable. Sable, this is my sister, Alex."

Sable stared at RhuZhi, completely dumbfounded. He was determined too, but it never got him farther than an A in his science courses and decent grades in everything else. Amazing. Maybe this boy was just more inspired than he was? Sable pushed a few stray bangs from his eyes. Maybe. He didn't really have any motivation other than a love of science.

Another doctor-in-training? He was right. The lab tech shook his head, a lopsided smile on his face. Man. Great minds just flocked together, he guessed. He looked at the two people RhuZhi pointed out as his family, tilting his head in casual observation. Maybe they were his family friends, or something. That could make them family. It didn't much matter what kind of circumstances occured to leave him as he was. Frankly, Sable didn't care too much either. What was, was.

He jumped, startled when RhuZhi suddenly spoke to him. Looking slightly bewildered, he glanced over, pushing glasses back up his nose. "Umm...hello!" he greeted Alex brightly. "Pleasure to meet you?" It was safe to say his social skills definitely qualified as awkward.

Henry shifted his eyes towards Dante, tilting his head. "Ambush? It's been a war out here. We take the chances we can if we think we'll survive it." He then looked to Irame as she repeated his words, a wry smile tugging at his lips. "If they were zombies, miss, I assure you this wouldn't be as horrible as it is. I wish they were half as mindless as zombies." He stopped a moment, shading his brow before pointing towards what appeared to be a hill amongst more hills. "Almost there."

Alex looked down at the boy who was easily a foot shorter than her, putting her hand on his head before leaning down and kissing his cap. She turned her dark green gaze to where the boy indicated, giving a slight smile and nod. "Likewise, Sable. I hope he hasn't been chatting your ear off." The woman grinned faintly at her little brother, giving him a pat on the back. "We're making progress, I think. If you'll come with us, Sable, I hope we'll have somewhere slightly safer to converse."

She turned her eyes onto Lina as her friend came back, her smile softening. "He only calmed down because Doctor Kenth hit him with his badge." Alex started to grin again, laughter threatening to start once more. "I guess we finally got what we wanted." She curled her arm with Lina's, leading her towards the group that was just in sight, motioning for RuiZhi and Sable to follow as well. "So!" she looked at Lina, her voice taking on a conversational quality that was more like herself, "What have you been up to? I'm so happy to see you again!"

Lina smiled as well, her expression softening. "Well I do suppose that being hit in the face by a big metal object would get anyone's attention."

She blinked in response to Alex's question. "Well I...I've managed to get a job singing at a more well-known cafe...and I'm going to school again. And...I...I've left Nai. For the time being."

Dante nodded. "Well, thank you for confirming my worst fears," he said, voice tight and frustrated.
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2007 6:48 pm

Henry barked a short, humorless laugh. "Forgive me. I've been living your worst fears, and I can almost guarentee you it's worse than I'm making it out to be." There was no cynical or sarcastic expression to his words, simply the tired truth of experience.

"You left your boyfriend?" The Italian tilted her head, trying to get a better look at Lina's face. "At least your job is ... wait, you sing?" Alex's face practically lit up as she moved - or rather, bounced - in front of Lina, walking backwards. "You didn't mention you sang! I thought you were a scientist!"

Weiyuan sighed once the man was able to calm down. He strode back to his belongings picking them up before returning back to the moving group. He listened intently to this man whilst still keeping an eye out on his companions,

RuiZhi had made more friends it seems. He did that quite a lot.

His brows furrowed, lips pulled together tight. Animals. It...it disturbed him to think of these people like that. Though they weren't exactly friendly, they weren't brutal to them when they were here last time. What could've changed them? They obviously weren't the people who his father had died for in trying to save them.

Grey eyes watched the scenery around him, trying to find anything that seemed any bit different. Each thing he idly filed into his mind to be written on paper later.

The building was in the near distance. Ah such memories. The lab must be open by now. He noted to stop by there once to pray for his father. There was also a chance that more of his father's documents would still be there. Who knows? As long as it wasn't Jones who was in charge anymore things were most likely running better.

Irame glanced over at Dante, hoping that he wouldn’t take out his frustrations on the poor man verbally. She would have liked to have said as much, but didn’t really think that it would be an opportune moment, and she didn’t think that Dante was yet at the level where he needed to be reminded to be kind to other people.

“Do not worry her- Henry.” Irame said smiling reassuringly at him. “I doubt that you have been living our worst fears, although I am sure that it has been a horrible experience.” She didn’t think that you could even run from an edric reaper without some form of spell or such helping you. “What ever you tell us, however, is helpful.” She added on the second part because she though that the fist was a bit mean, and positive reinforcement always seemed to work better than negative. At least in her option.

Sable fell back as RhuZhi's sister stepped over to greet him. He dropped his gaze to the floor, shifting his weight back and forth as he waited for the awkward situation to be over. He jerked his head up as Alex spoke, shrugging a little. "He's not," he answered shortly. He didn't mind people talking to him, it was much better than silence.

He might have stayed behind if Alex hadn't motioned for him and RhuZhi to followed along. He nodded to himself, trotting to catch up with pair of girls. He kept to himself, really having nothing to say. It seemed like they were playing catch up. Sable glanced over at RhuZhi. "...where are we going?" And what had Alex meant by 'safer', anyways? It wasn't safe to have a conversation here?

Dante was about to retort back, then rubbed his face and sighed. Calm down, buddy. "Forgive me," he said. "I did not mean...I mean to say...I'm sorry." I'm not good with people skills, despite the fact I was our diplomat at Iliodean.

Speaking formally was one thing. Personal...was another.

Lina nodded, looking surprised. "I forgot to tell you? I'm sorry. Yes, I sing. It's how I've been trying to save up money to continue my education. I'm a scientist, too...or I want to be. I want to be...a nurse...or a doctor. Someone that heals people's wounds. But I also love to sing...so I started singing to save money to take separate courses at our community college...."

RuiZhi smiled up at Sable, finding the uncertin man's company to be favorable. "I assume we're going to find the rest of the living scientists...maybe part of the rest that weren't so lucky." He followed a short ways behind his sister, his eyes moving between Sable and his brother. Weiyuan had been very, very quiet, and it made him acutely aware of the silence around them. It wasn't natural; not even the birds seemed to be singing.
