That was actually more or less what I've been thinking about a lot of things... er... the map, actually...
If you take the drawn map, you can then cut it up into various smaller images, or squares of the map if it's drawn on a grid. Link a few squares that show the arena to the arena thread. A few that show the forest to the forest thread. A few that- you get the picture.
Click the map and you are where you see. razz
It would basically just involve posting the images sequentially and putting the right links on the right ones. Like:

So I suppose the next step would be to draw up a list of what we are going to be including in the writeup, and then going to it. Once the writeup is done, then we can draw the map and such, and probaby a floorplan of the arena.

I have an idea!
I know I'm not anywhere near as old a member as Jay, or Josh or Ed, but if its ok I'd like to throw in my two cents. If someone already said this or hinted toward it, I apologize to said person for stepping on their feet.
Anyway, on to the idea. What about, a school. Not a grade school, or a high school, but a fighting/magic/slash, school. Let me elaborate. We'd have a building like a Leviathan Academy or some such. Its filled with NPC children or students plucked from the village and or surrounding area, and that justs so that it doesnt seem empty.
The school would really exist IC and OOC, a character or an RPer in genral would enter the school, or the school thread, and they, like in a college would sign up for classes OR sign up for individual training with their chosen mentor.
Various characters IC can volunteer or be requested as teachers to teach certain skills to those that wish to learn. Basically, it would allow for say...Ryugi, he at a time wanted to learn hand to hand skills. Jack or someone with better hand to hand skills like Vahn, could be a teacher, and Ryugi could ask to train under him. If Vahn agrees IC, he could train Ryugi as a student, having a practice match IC or such, WHILE using a messenger, the Hangout System, or even PM's to "coach" Ryugi. Analyzing his posts, disecting things that could be better, or helped, and offering said help so that the RPer and the character gets better.
I think we'd all agree that we would fight more if there was more worth fighting. I mean I wont name names, but despite humilty and such, there ARE RPers here that are generally treated as better fighters, and better RPers in general, and on the flip side, there ARE RPers and fighters here that are looked down at and laughed at, or frowned upon. If a balance could be made I think we'd all have more fun. So thats my suggestion.
On another note, I dont know that fights should be held such strictness. I mean it is true rules are rules, and if you agree to a hand to hand fight, and then you break out a blade, you should be penalized. But I think, that an IC infraction should be dealt with IC. I dont think, that just because, for example, Maximos's Shadow Bomb, missed, and accidentally blew up a few ranks of stands, I should be temp banned. Not to mention, thought it has been more common due to the Destroyer, I wasnt the start of fights, which were not planned, in which rules do not exist. Fights that are less fights, and more, just straight out attempted murders. Not every fight is the product of a conversation in which rules are layed out. Some fights are simply caused by a characters bad attitude, I, just personally, that all fights should be forced to be categorized, when sometimes, there just is no real reason behind them.
Now, I'm not one to tear down, and just leave it as such. So, perhaps, instead of OOC penalizations, we have say...IC penalizations. Ed mentioned his ninja clan serving as Vangaurds, and I know that I mentioned to Matt the possibility of M4X serving as a new stadium sentinel. Perhaps if someone breaks the rules of their fight, the fight can be interupted IC by one of those with such authority, and perhaps then the situation can be set right. A warning can be given, and possibly a straight off beating if the person persists.
As for property damage, I could see that those same Vangaurds order, and or force the person to either pay for the damages, OR to assist in the repairs. Which, speaking of property damage, we all know that its going to happen eventually. But, I'd like to address a smaller problem. I think Josh can vouch with me on this one. After Cerebus blew up the ARDS there was a huge 300ft hole in the middle of the arena. And yet, no more than 3 pages after the fight was complete, there were people fighting....in the center of the arena. Perhaps we can have a system of signifying what is and isnt still intact? I mean it can be something as simple as a red X on the map, or tiny post in a Status thread. Or even something as detailed as an actuall hole drawn on the map. Again thought, its just an idea. 3nodding 3nodding

Sure, a missed attack would be one thing, but repeatedly throwing out attacks with the potential to damage a large portion of the arena would really get you banned on a 'hold yourself back a bit' basis... ...and what if I wanted to redecorate the stands? blaugh shorty is just gaining dust as we speak... and its not like anyone who uses firearms really has a place to go.
as for the school Vahn had a similar idea and I have a feeling it will probably make it in since Ive yet to ehar anyopne against i.
Jello: you can do a TRUE imagmap too, you dont have to cut it up (though Ive used that method before) there a way to add the values and have the image wrok as an image map, thats how all those multi-link picture sigs work, its simply an image map.

Alright, I actually asked Matt about this once and he explained it to me. I might not remember it correctly so forgive me if I don't.
From Leviathan Island, in a southwesterly direction is Gambino Isle. But the arena itself is actually outside of Barton Town on the mainland. You have Barton Town, a huge a** forest to the East, I'm wanting to say then the Arena....and apparently the village, school etc...that you will add...after demoslhing some of the forest apparently.

I dont want to be the first downer here, but we have giant mechs, people who are walking death with poison blood, people that cant exist around life for 2 seconds without crushing it, and, your worried about deforestation?! I'd be worried about those poor villagers, I mean, there very existance give the arena this air of importance and growth that it really needs. With all the epic battles and fighters we have in this place it NEEDS to have the IC recognition as something more than just a place to fight, but, equally, I think we've all been here enough to see that NPC's die....alot, and in horrible ways, at whim. We just need something to make sure that someone doesnt go forth and wipe it out entirely. Nuclear device or some such. Which brings up an interesting query, what do we have to defend against, mass destruction. For example a dirty nuclear bomb, or perhaps someone with enough influence to have his own orbital cannon, or have their corporation create a world destroying spell? Or do we just live with the risk of annihilation over our heads? Unfortunately I see that problem, but I dont have the slightest clue what could be used as a defense. Sure, some of us have the power to create magic null zones against doomsday spells. And maybe, something something to the tune of 80 bajillion lunoc seals layered forever and powered by Nocturne himselfs presence, could hold back a nuke, but that really couldnt happen. Jay, you probably know more about actual or realistic defensive technology than all of us. Maybe some tech mixed with some sort of group gathered power of several members. I dont know, I'm kinda just getting a blank. sweatdrop

To put it bluntly:
Last line of defense = The fighters.
Invading army, meet Mr. Maximos.
Oribital death machine, meet Tom's EMP.
Psycho on a killing spree, meet Ninja Village.
I think there are more than enough 'epic level' fighters who would prefer to keep the stadium and the people in it intact to fend off most any attack against it. Perhaps they couldn't save the stadium from a nuke, but with sufficient warning everyone could jump into Maxi's hat. Sienna could errect some containment area with her seals to convert the force of an explosion (if she had some time to stand around by a set bomb to do it) into something less dangerous to everyone...
The Leviathan isn't about the building, it's about the people... and it will be the people that keep things from happening to it. 3nodding
Though there is no 'end all, save all' contingency plan... there never is.
