Daemon the Sword

Well nothing that would exist here thankfully.

Daemon tried to ease Gion, though he knew how things tended to leak into this world, he was proof of that.

Magicks... blood magic would be what I was thinking of, but that's for other mages... that do not exist here.

Gion blinked. Apparently that's a good thing, he thought doubtfully.

He came around a corner and stopped short at the sight. His eyes widened, and his jaw dropped.

Whoa ...

What? What?

Daemon would have been pulling his hair out in utter nervousness... had it had hair to pull and hands to pull with.

What's out there?

It's ... beautiful! Gion breathed. He 'showed' Daemon the sight he saw ...

Directly in front of him was something that was almost indescribable. An enormous cavern lay before him, hundreds of feet across and hundreds of feet high. It seemed to be raining from the ceiling, and when he looked closely, he understood why.

In the middle of the cavern was an enormous lake, the size of the entire Old City, he was sure. Steam was constantly rising off it, and the sight was amazing, steam rising and rain falling. It was all lit with a red glow that came from a river of lava that was flowing beneath the lake. Gion couldn't tell how far below the water the lava was, only that it was down there - and it was hot. Hence the steam ...

What do you think? he asked Daemon, filled with excitement. I've never seen anything like this before!

Daemon took it all in his mind falling back on geography books, books about the earth and anything else he could think of.

Amazing....

Daemon became silent for a moment before thinking about this.

I guess there must not be enough water for it to cool the lava, we're underground so the ground is cool so even if it evaporates it only ends up condensing on the ceiling and falling back in again.

I don't think there's anything that could cool that much lava, Gion thought, still staring.

It's just ... beautiful.

Daemon had to agree, it was a rare sight where just enough was able to create such an effect.

Not through and through no..... Just enough to create a crust of harden lava between that and the water... this is rare.... it's how hotsprings are made, but this.... this is way too hot for just a normal spring. You could probably cook something in there.

No swimming, then, I suppose, Gion grinned. Kidding.

He scratched at the back of his neck. Maybe ... I should head back to the surface ... just to be safe ..

That would be a wise idea... though as beautiful as the lake is... this is all too strange.... it still does not explain the cave existence and perhaps we won't know... maybe it's just a simple fluke of nature that it turned out as perfect as it has.

Daemon replied.

Maybe, Gion agreed, turning around and heading back the way he had come. And for all its beauty ... it ... sort of makes me feel edgy.

He resheathed the sword now that he knew there was no danger.

Well the whole cave itself is uncanny... though I can't see any practical use for it if there were people in here.
Daemon replied back uncertainty.

I know it was once used as a hideout for an exile, Gion shrugged. Though really there's no food to be found here ... And that was during the summer, it was all desert ...

And it would already be hot enough, no point in using the heat to make things grow it's too hot anyhow. And no animals to catch... so not used for cooking... and it depends what the exile was carrying at the time.

Daemon finished thoughtfully.

No... I think that will perhap remain a mystery.

Or we could ask Ulani when we get to the Borderlands, Gion grinned. After all, it was she who found him and killed him ...

His eyes lowered. He had kidnapped her nephew and was going to kill him ... blackmail ...

Does this kind of thing happen in your family often?
Daemon asked a bit incredously for the time he had spent with Gion he had a feeling it was a regular occurance. And he thought he was bad... he hoped his family wouldn't become as bad in gaining trouble.
