Shunsuke Akagi Even though I am a woodwind...I'd have to stick with brass. Woodwinds are beautiful in sound (when played right. stare Same for all instruments. xp ) but brass...I don't know, there's a "magic" about brass that I love. xd blaugh heart And also, almost all of my friends are brass...and the woodwinds, from what I've experienced, are (generally...there are quite a few nice people) cold, heartless people. Heh. Yay slight exaggeration. xp But the brass is a big family, so I say...I LOVE YOU BRASS. whee heart Aw, yay shanks very much! blaugh heart

Woodwinds. The brass in my band are just dragging us down. they are the ones who don't practice, or mark their music. They COULD be pretty good, if they put any effort into it. Plus, I am a Bass Clarinet, so of course I will defend my type of instrument ^^

Goddess Nayru DarkFlameMistress I play sax, so you know...sax is neither brass nor woodwind. It's confused... It is a woodwind, dear ^^ Yes, I know it is, but we play with both brass and woodwinds, and we are both made out of brass and use a reed, kind of like a piano is both strings and percussion. I was also merely repeating what my middle school band teacher said. (Charles "Alto" Taylor was a saxophonist in a brass band, I rest my case. blaugh )

Well brass has nice harmony, then woodwinds get pretty melody. But percussion brings it all together!

I just prefer brass. I started out seven-plus years ago on the trumpet, which I believe to be a gateway instrument; once you've learned the trumpet, you've learned just about every other brass instrument. I switched to the tuba a little over three years ago and am looking to continue my musical career when I go to college next year.

Woodwinds definitely seeing as my director insists that he doesn't favor the brass (he plays F. Horn) but it's totally obvious that he does! (and the fact that I play the flute xp )

(Charles "Alto" Taylor was a saxophonist in a brass band, I rest my case. blaugh )I am a bass clarinet, and I play with both the woodwinds and the brass. That really doesn't play a factor on what your instrument is. It just plays into what sounds best. Yeah, but the Flute is made of brass, and it is still concidered a woodwind, and it doesn't even have a reed. IT is judged to be a woodwind based on what it used to be made of.I think that is the case with saxaphones as well ^^ Oh, and the Piano is considered a percussion. Even though it has strings, you aren't specifically playing the strings. You are using hammers to hit the strings, causing a sound. Yeah, I know ^^ My band director tells me things that are different from my Private lesson teacher and my piano teacher, so I just go by what I think, based on 3 educated guesses. You don't always have to listen to your band director, but it is best if you do. Sometimes you can add some extra dynamics and things that the band director tells you not to, and it ends up sounding more musical. Like I said though, it is DEFINETLY better if you do what your band director says.

[Chapstick] go ahead and discuss. which is better, woodwinds or brass? dont kill me, woodwinds but i personally prefer brass since i play the french horn. AHHHHHHH!!!!! So torn! I play brass, wood wind, AND percussion...if I HAD to choose though, I'd say brass...trumpet and french horn were my firsts.
