The old man didn't stand much of a chance... he was good... he'll admit that... however he did have one ace up his sleeve. he grabs his sheath and inserts it over the young shinigami's blade to protect himself from serious injury.
However, it was a waste of effort, when the attack stuck him it did no damage. It merly felt as if a fly had landed on his body. The old man flicked the forehead of the young one and looked at him sternly.
"Go sit down..."
He looked at the group of students, removed his sheath and placed it back in his waist belt and slung his sword over his shoulders.

Rui stood up and decided to test his luck. He drew his sword and held it in front of him and smiled.
"Cry my beloved, let go the sorrow, unlesh the broken heart, Tsuyujimu."
The blade emitted a bright light and the entire blade changed shape. It was a little heavier looking in size and the blade itself was on the correct side. Tighting his grip he took slings his blade over his shoulder. Smiling he swings the blade and calls out the name of the attack.
"Fundarikettari!"
Frozen reiatsu shot at the old man as he was forced to unleash his own shikai.
"Fly Mitsuruigi!"
His own blade grew in length as he used it as a shield. The effects of Rui's attack left his mark on the old man as his entire sword and hand was engulfed in ice. "Thats enough... go sit down... your obviously pretty advance... i'm just the assistant instructor... when your real sensei returns I will recomend you immediate graduation..."
THe old man pumps reiatsu to his arm and his sword as he attemps to break the ice... and after a few moments he was able to as she seals his sword once again and Rui seals his own sword and returns to his seat.

Jin had felt a little surge of success after his spar with the sensei, going back to sit down, but he made a mental note to practice his defense. He clearly needed work in the field, the stab wound in his leg as visual evidence.
When he witnessed someone use their Zanpakuto's ability on the sensei, he had acknowledged that he clearly missed something. Jin had always done fights the old-fasioned way without using magic, but here it looked like if someone could release their Zanpakuto, it would be a major help. As he made another mental note to try and connect with his sword, Jin sat back and tended to his leg wound.
"It's nothin'..." Jin thought to himself as he used a piece of ripped cloth to cover the bloody stab wound. He could still use his leg as if it hadn't been cut, but he would still feel discomfort.

James smiled and waved at his teacher. "Um sensai would it be alright if i gave it a try?" He asked wanting a chance to try his skill against his teacher. Probably not the smartest idea i have ever had but looks like i should try at least. He thought to himself.

Tsai was also eager to fight but he knew it wouldn't be smart to right away. "Watch a few more battles," he heard himself holding him back. He continued to watch.

The old man nodded and shook the rest of the ice off of him. Slinging his sword over his shoulders again he sighs.
"Just come at me"
He said scowling slightly.

James walked up and bowed to him. "Thank you sensai." He said as he unsheathed his sword and took a fighting stance. Ok keep calm do not over do it. He thought to himself as he got ready to strike.

The girl entered the classroom, despite heading in this direction after Megumi had. Closing the door and folding her arms into her sleeves, she takes a position off to one side. Though she'd arrived late, she wasn't exactly worried about it. After all, it seemed as though zanjutsu training was more of a one on one experience.
Goodness knows, there were enough other students to deal with for the time being. She could take her own time, watch the fights, size up her classmates, and the sensei training them. She wouldn't call herself an expert with her zanpaktou, but she was skilled enough in the art of the blade. Or blades, in her case. She was eager to learn. Eager to prove herself.
She would bide her time, until it was her turn.

James ran forward and jumped up attempting to attack his sensai with a powerful two handed slash downwards. This is the hardest fight i have probably ever had so i best be careful. He thought to himself as he attacked.

Kaiya's attention had wavered when the first ended. The second one hadn't lasted long enough to sufficiently recapture said attention. So when a girl entered the room -- a girl with a familiar face -- Kaiya immediately saw her. "Ran!" She waved delightedly. At last! Someone she recognized.

It takes her a moment or two to snap at attention when she's gestured to, but after a few seconds her hands slide free, and she lifts one in a wave, giving that mischevious grin of hers.
"Yo."
She pushed off the wall, making her way over to where Kaiya rested. May as well speak to someone she knew. Though she does keep her eyes on the fight, even as she moves. She needs to keep some level of focus. She can't afford to miss something that might be able to be used as a weakness.

"Sigh, this fight is rather pointless" Mai muttered quietly. "There's no way anyone can land a hit on the teacher unless an opening is found, and so far there are none" she continued as she scanned the students here. None of them were familiar, sure she did see them in the hallways sometimes but they've never talked. She continued to watch, she knew that she wouldn't land a hit for now and waited patiently, looking rather bored.

She, too, was watching the fight. But not quite as intently. She was not worried about her swordsmanship. She was the daughter of a generation completely devoted to this. And even the intervening decades hadn't erased all of her skill. "I am very happy to see that you are in my class." Kaiya spoke with a little more formality now. She had been more than pleasantly shocked to see someone she knew. It had caused her to forget herself.
