The young stallion trotted along the beach's edge, sniffing in the sweet breeze that dashed up his nose. He was hoping to run into some lovely females, but it seemed everyone was out and about, doing other things. Thank goodness he didn't have to slave to his mother all day, and he managed to gallop off without her noticing. He was plenty old enough now, but she just couldn't get over it for some reason.

Either way, feeling a rush of the wind, he threw his hair behind him and increased his speed for the fun of it. At least he was free from some of the annoyances that he delt with daily, so he bucked and kicked in a playful state.

Zatarra took to the beach with a manner that the word 'playful' as well recommended itself to as the word 'wet' did to an ocean. He danced along the path to the water's edge, delighting in each step, with each fall of the hooves throwing back his mane with glee. Sweet, sweet freedom had been won from the group as much his family as not, for he lived in a close enough area with them all to earn such a name, and held a relationship with edge, no matter how strained.
Strain indeed he had felt of late, and for a young stallion of a temper that teetered between silliness and giddiness, the pressure had been bound to lend itself to an explosion of frippery, like that he now displayed as his hooves entered the lapping waves.

It seemed Vodka had some company ahead of him, and it also seemed the stallion was having a marvelous time as well. A spotted fellow, Vodka had never seen him before this moment, so he continued to trot until he was standing to the side of the stallion. "Good day there," He said, while watching him enjoy the beachy area. "It seems I am not the only one enjoying this fine day." His dark composure felt hot on the sun's reflection, but the cool water that hit his hoofs helped him avoid the heat a bit.

He was very spotted, with an interesting array of patterns. Vodka smiled to him, and flicked his tail happily. He didn't know many stallions, and was always hoping to meet some. Hanging around his mother was not the best way to really make friends or meet others. "My name is Vodka," He said, with a slight bow, "What is your name?"

The sudden calling to his notice of the stranger surprised the appaloosa male for a moment. When had he appeared? Had he been there before? But the questions could not long survive, for though of no great tact or talent, Zatarra was congenial enough, and enjoyed meeting Soquili not among his family group. A smile lit his eyes as he regarded the other stallion, the stripe along his back capturing his fancy for a few moments before the recollection that some greeting was necessary occurred.

"Allo. I'm Zatarra," he answered. "Nice to meet ya," he added, when the sense bore in on him that something further was needed.

"Forgive me if I startled you," Vodka said, feeling silly at the thought. It seemed Zatarra was deep in a daze when he walked over. Though, Vodka was only moments ago in the same space-out session before he spotted the stallion. Must have been one of those days for both of them.

He looked kind enough, and didn't seem mad that Vodka had intruded on his playful moment. Taking his eyes away from the stallion, he looked at the ocean, and kicked his foot in the water. He still wasn't amazing at starting up conversation, and that was a skill his vibrant mother had yet to teach him. "So, you enjoy the water too?" He looked back to Zatarra, wondering if that was a legit enough sentence starter.

It seemed his partner was equally insensible in the art of first conversations as himself, though perhaps for different reasons. For the reasons that were his own, Zatarra passed blissfully unaware of this fact, and accepted the question with alacrity, if some insipidity. "Yep!"
Such was the great genius of his mind, that he seemed to deem this a perfectly acceptable answer.

He did, however, think to couple it with a short skip-jump-hop of a step, further into the surf, so it lapped now higher up his forelegs, having consumed his hooves in their entirety.

Vodka stumbled, seeing asthough a foe too similar to himself was standing in front of him. Many others that he had met would start chatting about themselves or about something random, but he and Zatarra seemed awful at that art. "I am at a loss of words, then." All he could do was laugh, and he shook he head at the agony. "My mind was wandering until I walked over here, and now it seems a bit out of it. Forgive me, what horrible first impressions you must have."

He was sure he sounded like an idiot, so he smacked at the water with his tail, a bit angry at himself for not practicing the art of conversation better. It didn't help either that one to similar to himself was standing right beside him. Though, maybe this was good practice, and who know what would come out of their chat. Vodka was interested enough in the quiet stallion, so the effort didn't bother him.

"Oh, don't worry," came the easy reply to these sentences, "I have it on good authority that my mind is completely out to let."
Indeed, Zatarra had a quality that was useful in a dullard such as he- a knowledge of his standing enforced by the 'loving' words of his nearest and dearest. So far from opposing the thought, he had accepted and embraced it, and had some fondness for the idea.

"I'm what Eris calls a complete blockhead. But I can still save the day better than her!"
Apparently unaware that Vodka knew not of whom he spoke, the stallion nodded emphatically.

Vodka raised a brow, though was happy the stallion responded. "Eris? And a blockhead?" After questioning him, he chuckled a bit, and shook his heavy mane out of his face. "It doesn't look like your a blockhead to me, but my mother has called me that before, and I hate it!" He didn't think he was stupid, I mean what was wrong with having a broader mind?

Ah blockheads. Together they stood, comfortable on a beach in what looked like the perfect weather. Sadly, it was the connection that they both had, but no matter, who to better connect with then another one like yourself. "Well either way, I don't think you are anything of that sort. Maybe Eris is just jealous that you can save the day and she can't." Still having no idea to what Zatarra was talking about, Vodka thought he himself knew what the words all meant, but he felt compelled to address the subject matter.

Brimstone was in an absolutely wicked mood. He'd had the misfortune of running into a fool Kalona who'd thought he'd make an easy target. The Kalona had learned better. Fast. When one had the ability to burn one's opponents with one's hooves, one's opponents tended to back off. If not, they tended to walk away with burns that would probably need a unicorn's touch to heal. He was in a foul mood. A black mood. And it had reminded him that he was evil, he was wicked, and he was, most importantly, dangerous. He was feeling like issuing a challenge to any comers. A sort of 'try me, if you dare'. Eyes crackling with the fires of hell itself, the Nightmare stalked across the plains, setting off sparks as he went. With any luck, those would not ignite and start a brush fire. That sort of thing would no doubt be more trouble than it was worth. A little bit of satisfaction would not make up for a lot of deaths. Most especially feminine deaths, for he definitely enjoyed mares.

She? Well, it was night again and she was in a little mood of her own. She too had encountered a Kalona who had been... A witch with a uppercase 'B' to say the very least. Nevermind that she, herself, hadn't exactly been Miss Manners. Give respect where respect was given and all that other nonsense...

After fleeing the scene (more to preserve her flawless hide than because she'd actually been frightened) she had gone to stare at herself in a lake for a bit, inspecting the contours of her face. She didn't look a thing like a dog... Where on earth had that other mare gotten that idea?

Curves perfectly in place and boredom in tow she'd headed for the plains. All sorts of interesting things seemed to happen out there... As long as she avoided that one spot where the big spook had appeared she figured she'd be fine enough.

With a full and wonderful stomach, Saphira glided through the skies, slower then usual, since she had found such a large dinner for herself. Her body ached, only because the flames inside her stomach felt crushed by her body. With a yawn, sparks flew out of her mouth, and she giggled at her silly fire. She released some from her nostrols, and felt satisfied by the coolness of the air. Finally, her body could mellow out after such a reckless dinner. She had to admit though, she ate a lot, but it was quite enjoyable.

Something caught her eye immediantly- it was fire. She had already encountered one female, who also had fire on her legs. Now, what could this be? She flew in the direction of the bright sparks, breathing hot air through her nose constantly. Something about the air felt..different, and she moved through the air with precaution. She would have to stay alert, and not be reckless in her decisions.

Miss Cherie

With a flare of Brimstone's temper, the flames began to grow rapidly, setting fire to a small patch of grass. "... Bloody hell!" Okay, yeah, that was annoying. That was annoying as ********. Growling slightly, frustrated with his situation, the stallion stomped out the fire. ... With his fiery hooves. "Ah, crap!" He'd only managed to ignite the flames even more. With a sigh, he lowered himself to the extreme indignity of rolling in the smoldering grass. So far, he hadn't noticed Kat or the strange, Kalona-like creature. His responses to them were certain to be completely different, though. Especially given his recent run in with one of the bat winged bastards.

Skye Starrfyre
She heard the voice before the saw the stallion. The voice was vaguely familiar... The view? Well, she'd never forget a stallion like that. Any mare who could would have to be blind.

With a broad grin on her lips she trotted closer to the male, brow lofting slightly as she eyed him rolling around on the ground. "Such language! Brimstone, I'm shocked. Is that how a stallion such as yourself greets a lady such as myself?" She gave a big show of batting lashes like any twittering idiot would do before taking a step back, giving the male enough space to get up. "Evenin', Big Guy."

Tweekend
It seemed... another mare had approached the fiery stallion, but the situation looked under control for now. Saphira watched at first from the skies, but the manuvered her body to the warm ground. She watched from a distance, only because they seemed to be familiar with each other. She was only curious to see more fire, though she remained distant in the dark night, her blue body carefully hiding beneath the darkened sky.

She tilted her head, a bit jealous by the arrangement, feeling as lonely as every, her current and reoccuring mood. A mare and a stallion? That must be nice, she kept thinking. Sighing, she decided to watch for a bit, to see what was going on.

Miss Cherie

Bloody hell. Was that universe just out to get him? Was that it? Had the great spirit decided that he was not doing his job, and was therefore going to punish him? "What- no! That's not at all the way I'd greet a lady like yourself, kitty Kat. It just so happens that I've managed to set fire to the grass." And unfortunately, he was not about to deal with the consequences of leaving the fire alone. Grinning rather sheepishly, he got to his feet, making an attempt to keep from setting sparks all over again. "What are you doing around these parts, lady-o?" So far, he hadn't noticed Saphira. Given that the scent of fire was already quite prevalent, and that she was making an effort to hide, that was no real surprise.

Skye Starrfyre
"Don't worry, Killer, I won't tell anyone I caught you lyin' around." She grinned, tail flickering idly behind her as she eyed the stallion. "Wouldn't want anyone to know that you'd let yourself get so out of control with those fancy flames of yours... Bet you could start all sorts of trouble with those."

She nickered softly, giving her head a light toss as she pretended for a moment to be very, very interested in the sky above her. "I suppose I was looking for a bit of excitement... Something other than being chased about by an angry, she-beast with wings. You'd think it was my fault she was fat... I'm not the one who knocked her up."

Tweekend
With a last sigh, Saphira decided she was being childish and to approach the two. If they really didn't want her there, they could tell her, though she was curious by each of their appearances. Within her many run-ins in the land, some treated her harshly, and she assumed it was because of her 'Kalona' like look. Either way, her eyes stayed focused on the two in front of her. The stallion was dark and carried fire, while the female was a beauty in herself with bright specks of color. Curving her tail up, Saphira walked closer, letting the hot steam shoot out her nose by the second.

"Good evening." She said, keeping a calm expression, and a pollite distance. She didn't carry an aggressive air around her, and she tried hard to hide the hot air that clung to her nostrols. It was hard enough staying cool, that she didn't want to disrupt their air temperatures as well.

Miss Cherie

Brimstone snorted, pawing at the earth in a display of amusement. "Well, if that's all you're looking for, I can give you a bit of excitement. I happen to-" It was then that the female arrived, and offered the pair of them a greeting. God damn it. Never a moment of peace. Not even long enough to flirt with (or at, as the case may be) Kat. "Hello," he said, just a touch coldly. The fact that she greatly resembled a Kalona had not escaped him, and he hadn't quite forgiven the race for the stupidity of that lone Kalona. Not yet. Not until he came across one that was intelligent or likable enough to make up for it.

Skye Starrfyre
"You happen to...?" Her brow lofted slightly and then something clicked in the back of her mind. He'd said 'hello' to someone else, hadn't he? In which case... That 'good evening' she'd heard before had been real and not a figment of her often overactive imagination.

She turned her head slowly, golden eyes trailing slowly over the other female. "My, my... What have we here? Good evening to you as well, assuming you were the one who said it first. You were the one who said it, weren't you?" She glanced towards Brimston as if expecting him to give her some sort of confirmation faster than the mare would. "Seems like we can't get a moment alone, Killer. The more the merrier?"

Tweekend
Saphira turned her eyes on the both of them, and nodded pollitely. "Forgive me, I did not realize this was a private conversation." Feeling foolish, she lifted her neck up and tried to keep her posture tall. There was no reason to be ashamed, though she did feel like an intruder in the current moment.

She looked at the female, who had addressed her personally. "Yes I was." Hmph. Strange, Saphira didn't feel intemidated by the two, but she felt her pride crushed a bit. Was she a mockery to them? She knew inside that she was nothing of that sort, but now she stood as a complete fool who had 'disrupted' their moment.

"A moment alone? If that is what you desire, why didn't you guys just tell me? I was only taking a quiet flight, and when I spotted you two, I was interested by your appearances. I don't mean any offense at all." She sighed, wondering if acting pollite was really worth it. They didn't seem pollite at all either.

Miss Cherie

Brimstone gave Kat a nod, just before the female spoke. "You're definitely not the first to have interrupted us, though this is really only the second time it's happened. If it happens a third time, I'm going to start thinking that we're jinxed." Their conversations, anyway. "But, hey, why not? I mean, it's not often that a winged, horned, Kalona looking creature comes up and asks if she's interrupting something. Usually, they don't ask." Was the mare a Kalona, after all? Hmm. There seemed to be some physical differences, along with the differences in manner. "You know, sweetheart, I'm really beginning to like that nickname. Killer is a lot more intimidating than 'Sparky'." A lovingly bestowed petname, derived from the time spent away from his brother. Joy. Killer, at least, had a sort of... well, ring to it.

Skye Starrfyre
"Mm... I wouldn't call you jinxed. You have, afterall, crossed my path twice... And I'm not a black Kat." She flashed him a grin complete with a teasingly quick waggle of eyebrows. "You should consider yourself lucky, Killer."

Her attention shifted away from the stallion, returning easily to the mare. Her mind was far from being one tracked. She could juggle things easily as long as she managed to remember which who she was talking to when. "Are conversations held in public ever truly private? Last I checked these plains didn't belong to anyone specifically..." A teasing grin replaced the warm one she'd given Brimston moments ago. "Besides... It might not be wise to leave me alone with him. Never know what Killer here might do next... Why, just one moment ago he was trying to start a fire."

She tossed her head high, trying not to laugh as she turned back to the stallion. "Sparky? No, no, no... That's not you at all, Killer. Far too... Perky. Like a puppy."

Tweekend
How strange, their reactions to her were not in her intial plans. This only seemed to be a minor joke, and it wasn't her neccessarily as the spectacle, it was just the mere fact of bumping into them together. "Well, either way I do apologize again for creating a second interrtuption, I will make sure to avoid you two next time?" She smiled to them, and flashed them a quick wink of her eye.

She looked to Brimstone, who seemed more interested in her appearance. "Heh, well I assure you, no Kalona here. Only Dragon. There is a big difference in mannerisms, so that's probably what's throwing you off. Fire is a difference, too, and I see you have some." Her eyes flashed with interest, though she nodded to him, hoping that she still sounded pollite in her response.

She then turned to the female, and kept a light grin as she spoke. "Ah, that is true, though honestly some Soquili I meet are territorial, so I never know what to expect." She gave a light giggle. "Killer eh? Fires' not so bad ya know, I enjoy it very much.." She wiggled her nose though turned her head away so the heat could escape into the air beside her.

Her eyes widened for a moment. "How rude of me, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Saphira," She gave them another light bow.

Miss Cherie

"Puppies come in all shapes and sizes. Fortunately, this size does not happen to be a puppy. And I wasn't trying to start a fire. I was, in fact, trying to stop a fire. There is a subtle difference, one which I know can be hard to divine, but there it is." Brimstone, while 'bad to the bone', or at least pretty damn wicked, was no fool. And a fool would have continued to assume that Saphira was not telling the truth. It was as plain as day that she was. She was as sunshine-daisy spewing as any unicorn he'd met. "I've got a fire of my own, and I think you know that. Well met, dragon." Haha. Oh, that was funny. She'd said roughly the same thing, at the same time as him. Oh well. He had, actually, encountered dragons himself, or at least a dragon. That one had been a Kalona, but this one? He thought that she was a bit too physically different to be one. "My name, rather than being 'Sparky' or 'Killer', is Brimstone. I do like Killer, though." 'Big Guy' was also on his list of nicknames that he liked. Go figure.

Skye Starrfyre
"I happen to like Killer better myself." She interjected easily into their little side conversation, not at all afraid to do so. "It's got a nice little ring to it, don't you think?" Her brow lofted ever so slightly, a teasing twinkle dancing in her golden eyes. "Katarina." She nodded her head slowly after her name.

"I'm not a big fan of every kind of fire. Destructive ones can be useful from time to time... I prefer the ones meant to keep you warm at night." She gave a little swish of her tail as she said that, leaving her words to be taken however they would.

Then, just as quickly, her features took on a little pout. She whispered at Brimstone quite loudly, "Stomping on the ground with hooves like yours won't do much to stop a fire, Big Guy... And I told you I wouldn't tell anyone you were doing you know what." Rolling on the ground. What else?

Tweekend
"Katarina, Brimstone." She nodded, "Nice to meet you both." Saphira tried to absorb their personalities, for the three of them seemed so different at first glance.

She watched them interact with each other, and it made her smile. She was quiet in their response to their name-calling, only because she did not want to say the wrong thing, though she responded when Katarina continued to discuss fire. "As do many who enjoy that. I think most would openly choose a warm fire." She said solemnly, "For many fire can't be tamed and held, and for some it lies dormant in their souls. Whether it is openly portrayed or hidden, fire can do so much, and so quickly, whether it is noticeable or not." With a light flick of her tail, she jabbed at a rock that was behind her. Aye, a competitive difference between her and Brimstone, one she found in a more playful matter. "Fire is still remarkable, despite its different manners."

She laughed again when Katarina remarked at Brimstone, and watching them was both entertaining and interesting for her. "Was he up to something no good, Katarina?" She felt compelled to join in for a second.

Miss Cherie

Naughty, naughty, Kitten. Really, she was a naughty mare, making a reference to something like that so publicly. Ah well, what did he care? He liked that spark she had. It amused him to no end. "Unfortunately, the stomping wasn't working. Drastic measures had to be taken," he said solemnly, with a wink, and a wicked grin for Kat. "Fancy names, ladies. I'm afraid I'm a little bit short on that, myself. Brimstone is pretty easy to remember, especially since I've got a twin brother named Hellfire." Oh, what a cliche. His parents had really had it out for their sons, hadn't they? But, ah well. They'd made it work for them. "I'm always up to something bad," the stallion quipped, smirking like the Devil himself. "And personally? A little bit of fire during the day isn't so bad either. I mean, sure, all the time? No good. Whenever I want it, though... it's definitely not something I'd complain about." And not something he did complain about.

Skye Starrfyre
"With names like 'Killer' and 'Brimstone' wouldn't you think he'd be up to no good all of the time?" Her brow lofted as she turned towards the other mare. "I know I would." She couldn't help but grin. Trouble had yet to meet her when she was standing around with this stallion... Now the other group of stallions the night before with the crazydogthing was a different story.

Tweekend
"Heh that is true," She said, as she playfully nodded to Katarina.

She then turned to Brimstone, who seemed to have some interesting information. "Another like yourself? My, two fires blazing around." She giggled, though felt excited at that thought. She sighed and watched to two, before releasing her wings beside her. Her tired feeling had caught up to her, and she decided it was best to take her leave. Especially since they had some catching up to do.

"Well, be carefuly with that fire, Brimstone," She said kindly, "And you be careful of him, Katarina. You two have been fun, I hope to run into you again. I bid you both a good night." With that she gave them one last childish giggle, and she turned her body to fly away into the darkened sky. She hoped to see them again, though was glad they can finally talk to each other as they wished.

Vodka was drunk with excitement, and for no reason, as usual. His giddy self trotted in the darkening evening, and he shivered at the temperature change. He wasn't paying attention to anything, but he was happy with the unchanging enviornment around him. Always off in his own world it seemed, he chuckled and played with his steps, until finally stopping in front of an open pasture.

His first reaction to the warm ground was to totally roll in it, but he remembered how dirty his newly washed mane would get. Having such a long mane was a pain constantly, and he scoffed at his parents for that.

It seemed that he would just have to be mature for the moment, and he stomped his foot on the ground and looked around for any signs of life.

A Strong willed mare she was. Bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready for the day to begin. The sun had taken residence in the sky, washing the plains and hills in the soft pink-golden glow that only the Sun could achieve.

She stared her chocolate orbs into the sky, eyes content and focused on the clouds that all seemed to have a silver lining.

She smiled, flicking her golden tail that had been 'dipped' in a shade of lovely brown.

She stretched her neck, waking was always hard. SHe loved sleep, but it was just one of those things.. She had to wake up, and quite frankly, she was happy she always did.

It had been a beautiful day, and promised to be an even more beautiful night. Arya admired the way the shadows colored the plains about her. She'd cherished the sunset, enjoying the way the clouds seemed to catch on fire, but now... this stillness, this darkness was comforting. There was no hint of danger about her. Not like the other night. She shivered, remembering the scent of Skinwalker, of cadavers. More importantly, she remembered the stallion who had driven her away from the forest. Really, it was for the best, and she realized that as she made her way through the tall grass. He hadn't seemed malicious. A bit odd, certainly, but not malicious. Stretching out her neck, the mare nibbled on a particularly succulent bit of grass, standing for a moment in quiet contemplation.

Tweekend
Vodka sighed at first, not noticing anything around him. A few scents went past his nose oddly, and he knew that there were others around him. One seemed close, and standing around in the same grassy area, and the other was at a different distance. Although confused and not keen enough to tell, he strayed forward, until one figure stood out in the distance. Since everything was becoming darker, he couldn't tell what was standing in front of him, so he was unsure if it was something approachable. The air itself felt calm, so he decided to walk in that direction. He picked up his speed, only out of a natural habit.

He was a quick runner anyways, so if any danger were to errupt, he would make sure to sprint away.

The other scent that he smelled was also in that direction, so he looked around to see who else was in front of him. Maybe this area wasn't as boring as he had thought.

Bloody_Buffy
Marahute had spent her day lazing about, so finally she stood, making her legs hold her wieght. She shook her head, tossing her golden mane about her neck and face.

She was very good with the whole, waking up thing. But today, nothing really appealed to her. She yawned, walking slowly to the small stream she'd made sure to get a good spot next to for when she awoke.

She dipped her head, taking a drink of the crystalline water, gulping it down greedily.

She raisedher head, water droplets falling from her muzzle.

"If only all days could start out so bountifully." She sighed..

Miss Cherie

Arya's ears pricked, catching the sound of hoof beats nearby. Curiously, she glanced up, searching for the source. "Hello?" Generally, she added 'is somewhere there', but tonight she did not feel like saying it. She knew someone was there, and she wasn't going to play games with them. Most especially if she was on the receiving end of them, like the prior night. She lifted her head cautiously, and moved closer to the sound. The hoof beats were heavier than hers, and more even than either of those she now attributed to Wylie and Obe. In other words, it was someone she hadn't met before, and probably a stallion. She wasn't quite sure what she thought about that. Her previous encounters with males of the breed weren't particularly positive. ... Wonderful. Well, what could one exchange hurt?

Tweekend
Vodka heard the voice of.. a female? "Hello there?" He said, a bit loud. He trotted up closer to the noise, but still saw dark patches of night. He finally was able to catch a glimpse of the voice, and he saw a lovely spectacle with natural brown coloring and long white hair like his. "I am so sorry if I frightened you." He crept closer, though left a comfortable amount of space. "I didn't realize I wasn't the only one out here!" It was true, for a moment he was off in his own world, shut away from the other forms of life around him. The scents he smelled made all of his daze-like thoughts disapear.

It seemed another female was nearby, though he hadn't seen her approach yet. Just how many Soquili were around them? Obviously more then he could see!

Pumpkin Tart had no real love of traveling. Traveling meant encountering others, and encountering others sometimes meant danger. Like, for instance, in the case of that one Skinwalker. She had meant real danger. That exchange had been as close to death as she ever wanted to come. It had been a very near thing. And she had ran, like a little coward. But truthfully, she couldn't tell herself that she wasn't a bit of one. Danger frightened her. She had only been able to keep herself there long enough to convince the younger mare to run before she took off at a gallop herself. As she picked her way through the underbrush, she told herself that that was not a bad thing. It was not bad to be cautious. Was it?

Kitsune was another individual who felt caution was a way of life. He was constantly lurking in the landscape, making himself as unnoticed as many of the other forms of life that dwelled around. He also had his sword in his mouth, which for personal reasons would never leave him until he faced death with it. He hadn't had the 'run-ins' that many others would consider horrible, and it was probably because of his swift ways of hiding. Despite that, though, his vision from behind a solid underbrush was kept on what looked like an orange female, with not as bright of a look as himself, though interesting shades of mysterious colors. From his lurking gesture, he just so happened to spot another who seemed keen on blending in. He knew very well ways to escape his bright coloring, and watched for a second, before making his way out of the brush.

Her name was an unfortunate reality. It had been with her since her birth, and she'd hated it for almost as long. Lurking, moving softly through the bushes, she tried very hard to escape notice. However, it seemed to Pumpkin Tart that she already had caught someone's attention. With a quiet, mostly internal sigh, she resigned herself to the inevitable. She almost seemed to be waiting for rejection, or for ridicule, as though she expected it from all comers. But she did not know this one. From his hoof beats, she knew he was male. Beyond that... nothing, for she wasn't looking in Kitsune's direction.

He crept from beyond the underbrush and around so that he was now in front of the female. She didn't look evil, or as if she was going to attack. He placed his sword down by his hoof, as he always did, to show her that he was not there to attack, either. "Now, under your specific movements, it seems you are trying to stay hidden. What are you doing wandering in front of a steady brush?" He curled his lip and looked at her boldly. Maybe he understood the subject well, so he felt confrontational towards her. "Now I am used to hiding such a bright color myself, and back here," He nosed his way to the left towards where he was hiding, "Its much better for lurking." He chuckled and watched her.

Pumpkin Tart blushed slightly, ashamed of how easily she had been spotted. Her ears flattened against her skull for a moment, before perking forward. "I am not very good at this. I just did not want to be seen by the... Skinwalker." She didn't know if the female was lurking about, and she certainly did not want to find out that she was. "There was one, before, and I thought to avoid seeing her again." And becoming her entertainment, or quite probably her lunch. That would not have been good at all. She was absolutely certain that she had no desire to become food for anyone.

"Oh, I see. Well, that is understandable then." Kitsune had only smelled Skinwalkers before, though had never had the guts to go near one. He could handle a Kalona occasionally, but a Skinwalker he never dared. "Its smart to think that way, especially if she now knows your scent. But I can tell you, that I can usually pick up the scent of a skinwalker, and there isn't anything around us right now." His more.. serious and commander-like side was drifting out, and he felt compelled to explain the scenario. Kitsune went silent for a second, and looked side to side. "Yeah, we are good, there is nothing around us for miles at least." He swished his tail, and tried to control his nervous feelings. "My name is Kitsune, pardon my scary walk-in to this conversation." He chuckled, and realized how socially awkward he was around females. "What is your name, Miss?" Even the word 'Miss' was bleachy as it left his mouth.

The mare winced. Oh god, now she'd have to say it. "It's... Pumpkin Tart." Clearly, that wasn't what she preferred to be called. She honestly did not know what she preferred to be called. How could one take a name like hers, and make something pretty of it? Perhaps Kin? Kin was a little bit prettier. "If you don't mind, I would prefer to be called 'Kin', I think. I'm not very fond of my name. It's kind of long, and bulky." Not a very good name for a mare like her. She wasn't at all round like a pumpkin. And she certainly was not a tart!

"That sounds, tasty in a strange way?" He chuckled, but didn't see the mare laughing. Its not like he was very good at joking, anyways. "Okay Kin, though I don't think there is anything wrong with your name. Why focus on it anyways, its not like I am changing any judgements or thoughts just from your name.." He pawed at the soil, and looked at the strange female. How confusing, though from the females he had met, names and stuff seemed like things that were on their minds more. Maybe he was just strange, all he thought about was getting stronger. "Well, who named you then?"

"I'm not sure about Kin either, now that I think about it." Pumpkin Tart paused, and considered her words carefully. "Words carry a great deal of meaning with them, Kitsune, and so names are also important, if only to the one who carries them." That had been a surprisingly deep thought. Where had it come from? She didn't think she'd ever said anything like that to anyone else before. "Maybe I'll just stick with my full name, since that is what my parents gave me." She had inadvertantly answered his question, caught up in the strangness of actually having been passionate about something. "Oh. My parents named me."

"Oh, well I hated my father so that's probably why I could give a crap about my name." He sighed, and noticed the female change her mind, back and forth. "So ok, Pumpkin Tart it is, then?" He felt exhausted already, no wonder he never hung around anybody. "Don't you think names are selfish, then?" His lip curved into a devious grin. "I mean, our parents get to choose our names, and we are stuck the rest of our lives 'living out' whatever it means? It basically sums up a big part of our existence, and we have no say." He sighed again, and shook his head. Matters like this were to complicated for him, and that's why he usually just stayed away from everyone. "I don't know, that's how I kinda see it." He plucked at the ground to chew on a piece of grass nervously.

Gah. She was so socially inept. Somehow, Pumpkin Tart felt that she had messed up somewhere. "I... well, I suppose it is rather selfish. Some people choose their own names." Maybe one day she would choose her own name as well. "It makes sense, to me," she said, trying to grasp at concepts that were slipping through her fingers. "I think, though, that you came make your own meaning from your name. It doesn't have to mean exactly what your parents wanted it to." For example, her parents had named her after a food item. How nice was that? ... Or could it be that that was why she was always so nervous around Skinwalkers and Kalona?

He shook his head and spat at the ground. The piece of grass that he munched on was now shattered and in pieces. "Oh really now? Well, you can think whatever you would like to get yourself sleeping at night." He laughed, the world was so cruel, he would never waste his time on such meaningless issues. "So, what else does a lass like you think about?" He looked at her, noticing the marking on her body. "Every female I run into is friggan confusing, what makes you confusing then, hm?" He nudged at his sword, to make sure it was firmly by his leg. Of course, it hadn't moved the entire time they were chatting. "Everything is just so overwhelming, don'tcha think? Its way easier to just ignore everyone all day." He smiled to her, though he figured she wouldn't understand.

Pumpkin Tart glanced at the ground, and pawed at it with her hoof. "I don't usually talk to others. When I do, most of what I say doesn't make any sense." Since, well, she was so nervous. They made her nervous, though they didn't mean to. "If I stay by myself, I won't say anything, and then there won't be any problems with what I might say." Like about her name. His name. Anyone's name. She wasn't sure if she liked to be alone, but it was certainly better than saying whatever it took to get someone off of her back. Or, in this case, saying whatever came to mind.

"Oh so you do understand? More then I could have thought.." He glanced at her, amused. "Maybe you are more interesting then I thought.. it might be an orange curse." Once again, his comment was supposed to be funny, but he snarled at how idiotic he made it sound. "Well, I have to go continue my training in a nearby mountain, do your best to stay outta mischief." He picked his sword up, and looked at Pumpkin Tart one last time. "Your not so bad, ya know that? I'll look for you again." And with that he gave her a smooth smile, and turned away from her to trot off. Something positive for him? It was a nice thought, and he pondered it as he strode away.

They were the nicest words that anyone had ever said to her. Pumpkin Tart made as if to respond, but was distracted by the fact that he'd smiled at her. And what a smile! She wondered what exactly he was thinking, making a smile like that at her. He'd gotten her thinking about her situation, rather than just babbling like an idiot. Of course, she'd managed to do that as well. Auugh! Why was she so worthless in a conversation? She couldn't say anything right. ... Well, maybe that was not true. After all, Kitsune had said that she 'wasn't so bad' and that he'd look for her again. That was nice. It would be nice to talk to someone who maybe knew where she was coming from anyway. Somewhat shyly, she nodded. But by then he was already gone. Oh well. She might as well find something to drink. She wandered off, keeping his advice about hiding in mind.

Silly gal, Kitsune really wasn't gone after all. He had just vanished as he always did, but had a clear view of everything around them. Slinking into another side of trees, he only peered occasionally from behind her to see what she was doing. He noticed that she was starting to wander off, to where he had no idea, so following felt like a fun option.

She looked deep in thought, and Kitsune was saddened that he wasn't. Luckily he started his day off early, rushing to the mountains for a quick run. He really didn't need to train right now, so he felt as if Pumpkin Tart was the better option. For some reason, she was different, and it confused him.

He couldn't tell if he was making a smart decision, but he decided to ignore such idiotic feelings and just follow her until he could approach her without scaring her again. What could honestly go wrong? Nothing vicious was around them, and its not like Pumpkin Tart would hurt him.

Pumpkin Tart was almost perpetually nervous. It was the result of a number of events that she didn't really care to talk about, most of which having to do with the fact that she'd always been on the smaller side of things, and fairly easy to push around. Her strange coloration had added to the already poor image most Soquili that she met had of her. She didn't know quite why they thought it was bad to be cautious, but there it was. They weren't like her, couldn't understand her, and she she tended to keep a good distance away from them. If she left them alone, she couldn't possibly bother them, could she? It didn't take her long to find a stream. She was quite good at finding water. It smelled nicely of green, growing things, and of clean, flowing things. Carefully, she lowered her head and took a drink. She didn't smell any Skinwalkers or Kalona nearby. She should be safe.

Kitsune smiled when he saw she was just thirsty. No crazy plotting going on here, so it was nothing to be nervous about! He made his way out of the underbrush, though walked around completely so it didn't look like his was following her. He found a way to make it look he was just approaching her again, and he hoped that that would be more pollite anyhow.

"How is the water, is it cold?" He shifted his feet, and placed his sword down again. He wondered what she would think, having him not run away afterall. It just didn't seem like the right situation to escape from, anyhow. If anything, his instincts were telling him to grasp on to the moment. It was not everyday where he was able to chat openly with another.

She still seemed nervous, and he noticed that. "I just scoped out the area, and there is nothing around here, ya know. That's why I checked." He tilted his head, hoping she would realize that they were fine in their current area. "This is a good stream, its hidden well. I doubt anyone will find it back in these woods."

With her head down like that, she couldn't see Kitsune, but she could hear him. Startled, she jerked back away from the water, and turned to look at the stallion who had approached her. Oh. Yes. Well, it was silly to be scared of him, wasn't it? He seemed so nice, so far. Pumpkin Tart chided herself, and forced her body to relax, smiling rather timidly. "It's cold. It tastes good, sweet." Oh, she was so close to babbling again. It was a defense mechanism, one that she generally resorted to right off the bat. But... she wasn't quite sure she wanted to push him away just yet, if at all. "I..." What could she say to that? "Thank you." That did seem best. Rather pathetic, but not as bad as what she could have said. Flushing with faint embarrassment, the mare tried to pull herself together. He was right. No one was going to come upon them here. She didn't need to worry about that. Why was she so nervous, then?

"It seems everytime I talk I scare you.." He grunted, only because he hated bringing such fright onto others who didn't deserve it. But, from her words about the water, he walked a bit closer so that he could taste some for himself. "Mm, it is good." He looked back up and smiled at her. The water was refreshing, and it was just what he needed.

"Well, there is no need to thank me you know. I am just as obsessed with those thoughts as well, so that's why I checked it out after I walked away earlier." He chuckled, he was so weird, but oh well. Drifting his orange eyes on the female, he was suprised as to why she was being so timid. He must really be freaking her out or something. "Are you.. alright?" His lips wanted to say 'Pumpkin', but for some reason that just seemed too playful. "You know, it doesn't really matter what you say, if you would like to talk to you can talk. I'm happy to listen.." He rolled his eyes, only because he sounded so stupid. She probably was wondering why the hell he was trying to be nice. He really didn't mind her talking, though. He kind of enjoyed it.

Casting her gaze downward for a moment, Pumpkin Tart thought things over. When she looked up, it was to answer one of his comments. Well, to explain. "You don't frighten me. It's just that I spook easily. I always have, really." There were so many reasons for that, and she didn't know which one to express, if any. "Oh, but if I start talking, I'm almost sure to say something that will annoy you, and then you'll go away." Like everyone else. She didn't want that. It was... nice, to have someone there that she could talk to. "I've been thinking that this hiding thing doesn't work as well unless you know what you're doing. I don't really know anything about it. But you seem to." Maybe he could tell her a little of it? He had done a good job of not being seen earlier. "I find it hard to hide, with my coloring, but you've got a similar coat, and you don't. So, you must know something about it." Oh dear. He'd rolled his eyes at her. He was already getting annoyed, wasn't he?
