Sabin smiled, resting a hand on her shoulder as they shared the strangely tender moment. She was a curious individual, Sayuri was.

"You are welcome." He spoke after they had parted.

Then, offering her his arm, he led her out of his quarters, down the elevator, and out to the lobby where the jeep was ready and waiting outside.

"I had a most pleasant evening. Take care of yourself, and if you have need, do not hesitate to call."

Sayuri had held tightly to his arm, not just because she was back in her towering sandals, but because she wanted to be holding onto him.
'I hope I will see Danna-san soon,' she said, looking steadily at him before she got into the Jeep.
'And I will call if I need Sabin,' and she smiled, opening and closing her hand in a little wave from her seat in the vehicle.

He returned the wave as she took a seat in the jeep. "I am sure that I will not keep you waiting long."

Then, he watched the jeep turn, and drive off towards the village before heading back up to his room... and cleaning up after Beastie.

Sayuri let out a noise of relief, slipping off her okobo and wobbled across her Duplex and sank to the floor in the living area. So much to take in, her head was reeling and her heart was heavy. She slid the fans out from her obi, getting to her feet and putting them away, moving around on auto-pilot as she stripped, her kimono was hung on a special hanger to air before she would fold it away for the next time it would be worn to see Sabin.
She moved to her bathroom, running the water for a bath and faced her mirror. She was trembling very slightly, Sabin's words imprinted in her mind. She was going to change. She couldnt leave. He couldnt leave. A single tear made a track through her makeup and she reached up, wiping it with a finger.
'No crying,' she scolded herself severely. Her make-up was soon removed, the water turned off and her under garments removed. Sitting in the foamy water, wriggling her toes as she tugged the ornaments and unravelled as much of the hairdressers work as she could. The pins and all were dropped on the side of the bath and slid under, pulling her knees up and taking a deep breath before immersing her head under the water. She scrubbed quickly, feeling her hair loosening as the wax dissolved. When she emerged, gasping for air her hair was plastered all about her face, shoulders and down her back.
It would a wrench to lose her wareshinobu hairstyle, and it would trying to find someone who could dress her hair in a similar fashion but she could not leave it any longer without washing it. She washed her body and then got out, wrapping a towel around herself and padding from the bathroom. She chewed on a finger, looking at the bed base that she had stripped, not having used it since the first day when she had been left on the bed. Now that her was down though..she bounced onto the bed, enjoying the feel of the mattress before flopping onto her back.
'Is Sabin on a bed like this right now?' she spoke out loud, looking up at the plainly painted ceiling. Would she lie on a bed next to him? Doing whatever.. well whatever men and women did when in bed together. She drifted asleep, her hair splayed around her, shivering slightly in her damp towel.

Is it possible that the evening with Dr. Duvert could leave you so lightheaded? The entire day following your evening at the labs, you feel lightheaded, your head swimmy, and almost feverish.

By the end of your day, the pain at the base of your back begins... and what proceeds is a strange metamorphosis: your spine slowly, but gradually extends, thickens. The 'tail' is thick, muscular, and as it lengthens, the end fans out - and you can feel a fan-like bone structure developing underneath it all. While it hurts, it is nonetheless oddly fascinating. Then, a bright blue (and black and yellow) pattern of scales begins to spread over your new appendage, completely coating the tail - a bring yellow webbing forming between the branches of the fan. The scales cover your tail, and even spread unevenly over parts of your hips, and a spackling of scales over your thighs and around your waist.

Your feet feel strange, and you watch as a thick webbing arises between your toes, while those same, fine, blue-hued scales coat the distal half of each foot.

... Did Sabin really mean "doll" when he said Ningyo...?

Sayuri lay curled on the floor, her hair a black pool about her. After she'd returned from Sabin's, she had bathed and gently taken her hair down, washing all the old wax away that had kept it in its stiff shape. That night she had felt fine, sleeping soundly and waking without the usual stiff neck that the takamakura pillow gave her. As her hair wasnt up in the wareshinobu style, she hadnt need to use it, and had fallen asleep after her bath in her towel.
But today...today she hadnt felt well at all, the room seemed to lurch around under her feet and she shivered and sweated alternately. She flopped from place to place in the Duplex, sitting, laying down but the feeling persisted. Was this punishment for being too forward towards Sabin last night? After all she had kissed his hand and pressed herself against him. Maybe it was the sleeping in her wet towel with wet hair..

'It hurts,' she complained, sitting and rubbing her back. The day was drawing to a close and she still felt no better. She would drag herself to bed she thought, and just sleep it away. It throbbed now, a dull pain that blossomed into a fiery hurt as she twitched on the floor, laid out on her front as she couldnt even turn around without it hurting. There would be pain, she remembered the conversations with Maryke and Emerwyn. When they had changed they said it had hurt...was the same thing happening to Sayuri? Sabin had said he was being nicer to her, but right now it didnt feel that way.
She twisted on her stomach, fingers scrabbling into the carpet as..things happened behind her. She could feel something growing, forming at the bottom of her back and she pulled her yukata open, feeling underneath the cotton material. Her heart about stopped when her questing fingers found the flesh that had formed, and her hands jumped away when she felt something harder moving beneath the surface of the growth. She shed her yukata then scrambled along the floor, dragging her un co-operative body along until she had gotten to the big mirror in her room. She gripped the sides of it hard as she watched the transformation finish, her eyes filling with tears of fright and pain. The pale flesh of the tail was was giving way to scales, vividly coloured scales flowing along in a pattern as they formed on the tail. The scales didnt stop at her tail though, they pushed out of the skin along her thighs, circling around in her waist and spreading down her thighs.
Just as she thought that was it, her feet joined in the 'party', and she watched numbly as her toes were webbed together, and miniscule scales grow over a portion of her feet. She sat for a while in front of the mirror, shivering in her birthday suit and crying a little; the changes had all been a little overwhelming but she was also grateful that it seemed to have stopped.
She got to her feet, wobbling a little, the sensation of the webbing stretching between her toes was really odd and made her shiver a little. And as for this tail - she turned, looking at herself in the mirror. As she thought about the tail it gave a small flick.
'It moved..' she said, a finger nail being chewed, her expression one of fascination despite herself. She concentrated and it flicked fully, a tiny giggle escaped her at the sight of her tailed bottom. She found the colouring to be pretty, but what it would stop her from doing? Could she still dance..could she even wear a kimono now? She looked at the tail, screwing her face up with effort and it curled over to one side. Letting out a breath it wiggled back out with her exhalation but now she knew she could control it a little and keep it from sticking out too much.
Well, she had stood here naked for long enough and she was cold. She shivered, staggering to where she had dropped her yukata and wrapped it around herself. Back at the mirror she twisted to see how it looked...
'It looks lumpy!' she wailed a little.
She would have to practice holding her tail to one side, otherwise she would never look good in a kimono again. And cutting a slit into them was not even a consideration. What she wanted was Sabin, he knew this was going to happen. Maybe if not him, maybe she could find another - Emerwyn or even Maryke to talk to about this.

Cranky old man - Meeting Sid.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri turned around again, having walked the length of the Duplex area. Her hair was still down, she had not spent anytime working on trying to put it up again as she was too busy practicing walking on her feet with newly webbed toes, and holding her tail curled around against herself so that it didnt stick out and cause a bump in the line of her kimono.
It was tricky though, and hard work as she wasnt used to owning a tail and when she got weary it flexed back out pushing her kimono out at the back. She pulled her fan out and fanned herself, the exertion and the warmth of the day was causing her to perspire. She spied a bench and pattered over, sitting down gratefully, and letting out a breath of relief. And then she looked skywards, moving so that she wasnt squashing her tail in a painful manner and then relaxed again.

Sid Eisley
Sid was down to his last remotely clean t-shirt, namely the Black Sabbath one, but he was still in the habit of putting laundry off until there was absolutely no choice- and nothing left to wear. His jeans were a mess, but they were like that even clean. It'd be futile to try and do it while hungover, anyway. Even with his sunglasses on, the sun was too damn bright, so he walked with his head down, only paying attention where he put his cane.

Coming to the bench came as an immense relief, at least until he realized it was occupied. By a woman. An Asian woman. Bonus. He pushed his sunglasses up, assuming his eyes were probably still just a little bloodshot. It was his halfassed equivilant of smoothing his hair; there wasn't much he could do with that thanks to the ponytail.

"Hello there," he said. His voice, annoyingly enough, was a little more gravely than usual. He really needed to go easier on the smoking and drinking.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri looked around a little nervously as the man approached the bench. He wasnt walking too fast however, didnt seem incredibly steady and was in fact moving with the aid of a cane. She looked sidelong at him, unconsciously scooting down just a little so that there was a proper amount of space between them and nodded her head, bowing in her seated position.
'Ohayo,' she spoke quietly, taking in his age and the curious way he had his hair.
'Are you okay?' she asked out of politeness.

Sid Eisley
The smile he gave her was a little to tight thanks to the question. "Always," he said lightly, brushing it off. He gestured to the free space that had grown a little during his approach. "Mind if I sit?"

Sayuri Satoharu
'It is a free bench,' she said with a smile.
'I not mind if you sit.'
Of course this meant that she was to be on her own with a man that was not her Danna once again, but they were outside not in her Duplex, and he sort of reminded her of the old patrons she used to entertain. They were all of an age to have grand-children and sometimes treated her a little like one of them, and were the ones most patient of her occasional acts of clumsiness.
So she thought there wasnt much harm in her sitting with him - well as long as she was sitting as apart from him as possible.

Sid Eisley
Thankfully, for whatever reason, Sid sat a respectable distance away. He drew his cane up to rest in his lap in the same moment he stretched his legs. He sighed, realizing too late that that was just the sort of thing an old man would do. He tried to clear his throat to cover it, but too late.

"Haven't seen you around before," he said. "I'm Sid, by the way."

Sayuri Satoharu
'I have been here..' she paused as she tried to remember.
'I think 3 week. It must be that yes,' she nodded, bringing a hand up and twisting her fingers in the ends of her hair. It was oddly freeing not to have it up in the waxed hairstyle; she missed it a little but was still wearing her make-up - but in a toned down version, her face wasnt as starkly white as usual.
'Sayuri,' she tapped herself with her now folded fan. She looked at him properly but swiftly, noticing that he seemed completely human, well as far as she could tell.
'You have not been long here?'

Sid Eisley
Sid tried to think of how long it had been, but aptly keeping track of time had been futile ever since the 80's. "I dunno," he said. "Maybe a week or two? It all sorta just blurs together."

He had yet to notice Sayuri's changes, his attention was focused more waist up. Well, chest up, but he was doing an excellent job of mostly keeping his eyes on her face. All the while he tried to remember if it was all Asian cultures who had a thing against eye contact, or just some... Or maybe he was thinking of monkeys. His own eyes lost focus as he tried to think of which it was.

Sayuri Satoharu
'So you not have pain or change then?'
Sayuri was curious as to how long people had to be on the Island before anything like what she had experienced happened to them. She noticed he was pretty much staring at her now, and it caused her to fidget uncomfortably. She pushed a foot out from under the bottom of her kimono, exposing it so that he could see. She wasnt wearing the normal white socks - tabi, because ever since her feet had webbed and grown the minute blue fish scales it had felt uncomfortable to wear more then her different sandals.
'I have small change.' she held up two fingers a little apart from each other.

Sid Eisley
"Uh no, not yet," Sid said. The strained smile remained on his face as he tried to act like the topic were as harmless as the weather. He stomach, on the other hand, was twisting itself into knots at the the mention of changes- and the math involved with how long the first seemed to take.

He glanced at her feet as she showed them, dragging his gaze back only after she spoke. "Two, huh? That wouldn't mean just your feet, would it?"

Sayuri Satoharu
'I hope it not hurt for you.' Sayuri said, tucking her feet back away under her kimono skirts.
'I have tail,' she admitted.
'I can make it wiggle! But it make sitting not easy.' she was cheerful about the tail now, but the forming of it had not been fun.

Sid Eisley
"That's fantastic," he said, unable to match her enthusiam about it. Realizing the smile had become something closer to a grimace, he tried a more neutral, less forced look. "The tail, I mean, not the difficulties. It's... ah... I'm sure you'll get used to it."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri was taken aback at his tone and looked slightly injured.
'You want say I hope it hurt? I would not say that. I was scared too.' she said, speaking in a more forthright manner as she felt like she needed to be reassuring. It was a new feeling, to have experienced what another hadnt.
'The tail is pretty. I was lucky to not be worse then I am. I have made friend who look like deer and she not scared.'

Sid Eisley
"Whoa, hey," Sid said, holding up a placating hand. "You misunderstand. I didn't mean I hope it hurts, or think you hope it hurts or... Okay, let's just forget that, shall we? It's indeed a lovely tail and-" another forced smile. "I'm not worried about myself. So it's all good."

He was very close to babbling, or maybe he already was. Of the three women met on the island, he'd only to keep his foot out of his mouth with the vulture chick. Trying to act like he actually had good communication skills- or at least a good vocabularly- was exactly working well, either. He sighed out loud before he could stop himself.

Sayuri Satoharu
She nodded, pleased that he had not thought that she was being mean in anyway. She didnt think she was capable of that, but she had almost gotten cross with him just then so she obviously had some small amount of spirit left.
'You not seem fine.' she persisted, a fact that was reinforced when he let out a heartfelt sigh.
'Please, what is wrong?'

Sid Eisley
He shook his head and looked away, wondering why things always had to come back to that topic. The answer came easily, because to him it felt like it was pretty much that or talk about the weather. "It's nothing," Sid said. He kept up the lie for a grand total of two seconds, before he sighed again, even heavier than before and added, "Nothing beyond the usual complain, y'know? So I do worry, but what're you gonna do? Nothing."

He laughed. "So maybe, by that same logic, it is nothing... but now I'm not making any sense."

Sayuri Satoharu
'I think we have to be talking to everyone,' Sayuri said nodding.
'All are trapped here,' and she pointed to the scenery before them.
'A friend say we be here for each other,' she said carefully, trying to remember what Emerwyn had said.
'I think true.' she looked at him, a quick darting motion of the eyes.
'What did you do before Island?' she asked, curious as to what this aging gentleman was doing on the Island. Those she had met so far had some sort of occupation that could be helpful, or something interesting that they did.

Sid Eisley
Sid nodded along with the advice Sayuri gave, though he didn't appear to be listening. He looked over with the question. "Before? Lots of things," he shrugged. "Had child support, alimony, all that... But those weren't exactly career tracks, more like monthly distractions from pink slip to pink slip."

He paused, wondering if what he was saying made sense. Mangling his sentences was bad enough, but with someone who knew English as a second language.

"I tried to be a writer, mostly," he amended.

Sayuri Satoharu
Most of the words he said she indeed didnt properly understand, but simply nodded along politely as he spoke, her fan unfolded again as she wafted a breeze around her neck and face.
'You make stories?' she asked. Writer she knew. That sounded pretty cool, being good enough to write about people and places.
Sid-san must be clever to be writer,' she said in flattering tones.

Sid Eisley
"Yeah, you'd think that," Sid said. "I dunno about clever though."

If he was really clever he wouldn't have let his life end up like it had- even before he ended up on the island. He looked up at the sky, at the clouds drifting over head.

"What about you?" he asked. He didn't bother to look away.

Sayuri Satoharu
'Oh I am sure Sid-san is very clever.' Sayuri let the fan rest for a moment. She looked up as he did, curious to see what had caught his eye. All she could see were the clouds moving across the bright blue of the sky and so she looked down again.
'Sayuri is Maiko. I train to be Geisha. I enter-tain, dance for men.'

Sid Eisley
"Like that movie," Sid said idly, still staring at the clouds. He tried to pick out shapes in them, but the best he could come up with was a few strips of bacon. Maybe that meant he should eat. "It's a very noble profession... way of life... whichever you'd call it. Very classy."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri wrinkled her face, showing confusion at his words.
'Moo-vie?' she asked.
She vaguely knew the word but had never been to a cinema, never being allowed to leave the geisha district.
'It is life yes.' she nodded.
'But what is the movie you talk of?'

Sid Eisley
His neck getting tired, Sid finally looked back down to earth.

"Y'know- motion picture, film, flick," he said. "There was one about a Geisha back before the war, based on that book. Not that good an adaptation, really... Hell, they used a bunch of Chinese actors who had to be taught how to speak English with a Japanese accent phonetically. That's just lame. Lame and incredibly roundabout."

He began to pick at the frayed knee of his jeans, the fact he could have- and probably should have- tried to put the moves on the girl had slipped his mind with the little rant. He couldn't even stop there. "There haven't been all that many good movies out in the past few years... None, that I can think of. Whole movie industry's ******** an old man thing to say, and such language... If he was lucky she didn't know the meaning. If he was really lucky she wouldn't ask. He began to wonder if he should just quit while he was still ahead and leave, and it was betrayed by the fact he glanced back towards the duplexes.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri blinked, taken a little aback by his tone; not that she hadnt heard saltier language at the parties when the sake was flowing freely.
'There is film with Geisha, and they are not proper ones?'
That was terrible! She wondered how the Geisha acted in it. She frowned.
'That is bad. Geisha is art. Did the women act like tayu?' she asked. If he had seen it, maybe she needed to be guarded. He might think she was like the fake, film Geisha.

Sid Eisley
"I have no idea what that means, sweetheart," Sid said, his tone sliding back to something more personable as he looked to her again. "But they always take a few liberties for film. I mean they change things so it sells better. I wouldn't know, I didn't actually see it, I just read the reviews. Going to the movie's a damn investment these days."

He dug his fingers into his knee just as those last words left his mouth.

"Anyway," he said, rubbing his knee. "I admire the art, I really do. Tradition is a wonderful, respectable thing. I admire you for it, truly."

Sayuri Satoharu
'Tayu is easy woman. She have..' she tried to remember what her Okasan had told her about the high-class prostitutes that had all but faded away from the districts.
'Easy open kimono.'
She was relieved to hear that he hadnt seen the film. And was worried again that some other Islanders might have actually watched it. She lowered her eyes as his complimented her, blushing a little.
'Sankyu.' she nodded.
'It is tricky to be only Geisha on Island though.'

Sid Eisley
Sid couldn't help but laugh at the explanation. "Oh, right, I see whatcha mean now. No, I don't think you're like that, don't worry."

He grinned, though it melted away when he realized that was the first time he'd genuinely laughed since he'd arrived on the island. He could have been wrong, every previous encounter with others already seemed hazy. Had he always been that bad about it? Nevermind, he had to say something before the silence stretched too long.

"But as for being the only Geisha-" he shrugged. "Well, people seem to come from all walks around here. It's... interesting."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri clapped her hands in joy; she had made him laugh! And all without makng a fool out of herself..so she thought so at any rate. She bowed a little in her seat.
'I am glad. My kimono is proper, is hard to be open...' her voice trailed away as she realised what she had started to ramble about.
'Sid-san has nice smile.' she smiled at him as she spoke.
'He must have smile more.'
She listened as he spoke again.
'Yes, I see people walk all time about here.' she motioned with her fan, a little perplexed about why people walking would be interesting but it wasnt for her to tell him otherwise.

Sid Eisley
Sid leaned back, relaxing enough to put his arm on the back of the bench. The distance between them was, unfortunately, too great for it to count as the classic reach around ploy.

"I should hope it's nice," he said. "I spent enough on work that it better be..."

He couldn't do much from the staining, thanks to all the coffee and cigarettes, but the fact he still had all of them had to count for something. Amazingly enough he was distracted by Sayuri enough that he didn't think of what Sabin had mentioned of certain fish and their teeth.

At Sayuri's commenting on walking he chuckled again. "Nah, it's a figure of speech. I mean that the people here come from all over the place. There's some computer geek, a political activist, a whore, a teenager- which isn't really a profession, but anyway... Come to think of it I'm not really sure what the others do. Or did, rather."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri let her gaze flicker to his arm on the back of the bench. It was not near enough to worry about and she quickly smiled at Sid, a close lipped smile then giggled behind her hand.
'Sid-san practice smile?' she wondered if maybe he smiled at himself in the mirror. She didnt connect his meaning that he'd had dental work, not having experienced more then just simple visits to the dentist.
'Oh,' she realised she had made a mistake. She squirmed a little but he didnt seem to be laughing at her.
'Yes, that is true. Many people and do many things.'
She would have commented on 'whore', but didnt recognise the word.
'Will you write about here?'

Sid Eisley
"Practice?" Sid said, looking blank for a moment. He smiled when he realized what she meant. "Nah, I found it's easier just to sink ridiculous amounts of money it. Better than pratice."

At the mention of writing about the island the smile died. "I don't see the point," he said, idly scratching his neck. "They've made it clear, over and over again, that nothing's getting off the island. So what good will it do if no one's gonna read it? I just... I write for myself. I'd say I always have, but that's not exactly true."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri wondered how you could spend lots of money on a smile. Maybe there were smile teachers, the same way she had dance and shamisen teachers?
She almost let out a sigh of frustration when Sid looked unhappy again. How did she keep doing that?
'What if you write for people on Island? People might like your story. If you can cheer up one person with something that you have write..written is that not good?'

Sid Eisley
"It's an idea," Sid said. "There's just the little matter of what to write."

He put his cane down and moved to stand, giving Sayuri a strained smile. "Maybe I'll go work on that now."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri got to her feet, tucking away her fan under her obi and held an arm out.
'Sid-san let Sayuri help.' she offered, inclining her head in a small bow.
'Maybe he can write about this foolish Maiko,' and she giggled a little.

Sid Eisley
Sid shook his head adamantly and waved Sayuri away from him. There's no need," he snapped.

He closed his hand into a fist when he realized how that must sound. "I mean, I appreciate the offer, truly, but I can make it on my own. Writing is... is a deeply personal process that takes a lot of thought, which takes isolation."

The words came out too fast, still too late to make up for the harshness.

Sid tried to give her a reassuring smile before hobbling off, but it was far too strained. "I'm sorry. I'll see you later."

He turned and walked in the direction of his duplex, his pace as fast as the cane and his bad leg would ever allow. He wouldn't call it running... it was more like a tactical retreat.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri would never cry over Sid's words; she merely flinched. She was very used to people berating her or speaking to her in a severe tone and so she simply bowed.
'Sayonara Sid-san,' she said, speaking rather formally and stiffly. It jarred that he had acted the way he had, but she would simply treat him as she would any crotchety old patron and use her teahouse smile around him. Her tail wiggled under her kimono, and she pattered off, hoping to find someone more agreeable to speak with.

Hairstyling and sex advice from Maryke

Maryke Jimenez

It seemed like days since she'd come out of her duplex. Things just weren't going well for the swanky madam. In fact all she really came out for anymore was food, and even then it was when she was REALLY hungry. Which wasn't as often as it should have been. She'd lost weight, giving her figure more of a model-like apperance, but it wasn't exactly healthy. Not that she really gave a damn. Health for her was something you did to follow the latest fashion trend. Colon cleansing, spas, the 'raw diet', if it was in a magazine and some of her wealthy and famous 'friends' did it then Maryke had probably tried it before.

So what was a little mopy starvation to one who fasted just because it seemed like a good idea at the time? It didn't matter, though it did leave her more irritable then she was normally. Right now she sat on the couch, doing her nails with both feet spread out on the little coffee table. Not that anyone would be able to admire the paint, but it was relaxing.

Sayuri Satoharu
She really hoped that this was Maryke's Duplex. All the other doors she had knocked on had solicited no answer and her feet were sore and tired already.
She nervously pulled on her hair, her tail swishing around underneath her flower blossom on blue patterned kimono.
'Mary-keh?' she called through the door.
'It is Sayuri.'

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke's hazels ticked up from what she was doing and it took her a moment to even realize someone was calling out her name, or slashing up the syllabals as it were. She recognized the voice even before Sayuri uttered her name. The madam blew on one finished coat and then slid up before walking over, swinging open the door and stepping back so she could enter.

"Chinadoll," she grinned, her eyes twinking, "What brings you to my neck of the woods?" she asked, not yet noticing the new change.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri bowed before the madam, her hair falling in a curtain before her face; which was annoying, something she hadnt worried about before. She stood again, pushing it back and smiling at Maryke.
'I have not seen you for while, and I came visit?' she said, not wanting to come right out and ask for grooming help. Maryke had been the only one she thought of because her hair whilst not black nor straight, had looked good. So she figured if anyone in her small circle of acquaintances would know how to dress hair it would be her.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke never knew what to do when Sayuri showed off her customs, like the bowing thing. So the madam took a guess and bowed back, though not as lower as Sayuri had done. "Oh...." she said, she couldn't help but grin at that. Out on the mainland, in the real world she had had plenty of friends, of course not all were very nice people or people that could be considered true friends, but she still had them.

So hearing Sayuri say she was just paying a visit kinda felt good. "we'll come in..." she grinned, "I was just doing my nails..." And that's when she caught it, the hint of a fish tail. "Oh my god......you're going to be a FISH?"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri nodded, having caught the whiff of nail polish.
'Sankyu,' she said softly, moving inside and sliding her wooden geta off. As she did so she pulled her kimono hem up and her bare, webbed foot would be on show as well.
'Hai,' she nodded, curling the tail over again so that it wasnt noticeable under her robe.
'It was two day ago.'

Maryke Jimenez

She frowned slightly, her ruffed ears flattening. No matter how much she hated what she was becoming, wanted nothing more then to rip and claw the fur off (and she'd tried already without much effort), here again she was reminded that others were becoming worse things then she was. But it still didn't take the sting away.

"Two days," she repeated, shaking her head, "did it hurt?" She went back over to the couch and then flopped down onto it, getting her next coat of polish ready.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri followed Maryke into her Duplex proper, looking at the couch and then knelt in front of it. She just wasnt comfortable sitting on normal seats, and the knot in her obi always pressed into her back when she did so.
'Much,' she nodded, watching fascinated as Maryke went back to painting her nails. She'd not ever done her own nails but her birth mother had often done so but rarely let her see the process. She remembered the smell though, it invoked a nervy sort of feeling in her stomach.
'I was rolling around floor in no clothes!' she giggled.

Maryke Jimenez

"No clothes?" she asked, an eyebrow raised and a giggle escaping her lips. She had a mentally image of a scared Sayuri rolling and growing a fish tail and the thought only made her laugh more. "Geez, bring in the mud and dollar bills and you would have had one hell of a show." She supposed the girl probably wouldn't get or understand that joke so she quickly countered, pushing the nail polish on the table next to where she was sitting on the floor.

"Want some? Doesn't look like it'd be the right color for you, but I have more..."

Sayuri Satoharu
'Dollah bills?' she looked confused. And why would she roll naked in mud? Sayuri nodded enthusiastically at the offer to have her nails painted.
'Not long nails,' she said, showing them. They werent as badly chewed as they had been, she was less worried here.

Maryke Jimenez

"Money, cash, cheese, green stuff...." she said, amused with the communication gap between them. She inspected Sayuri's nails with a slight frown and shook her head, "Alright I'm going to need my whole aresenal for you....I should do something with your hair too...." and without missing a beat she got up and headed to her room, returning a few moments later with her hair and makeup bag.

Sayuri Satoharu
'Oh..'
Well now she was even more confused. Did people like to see ladies with no clothes in mud and they liked it so much they would pay for it? How odd.
'Is okay for you to do this?' she asked on the madams return. She didnt want Maryke thinking she had come by just for this sort of thing, she had also wanted to see her again.
'You need me to sit?' and she pointed to the couch.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke shrugged, "Of course it's okay for me to. Don't see any reason why I can't." Naturally she'd misread the question, but it didn't matter. Her focus was now on what she was going to do. "Nah, you can sit on the floor f'you want, I'll sit on the couch behind you. Makes it easier for me to get to your hair."

She opened up her bag and skimmed through it. "So what look do you wanna go for?" She immediately realized Sayuri might not understand that and added, "What do you want to look like....cute and innocent...smoldering...what?"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri got up and scooted closer, kneeling down again and turning so that her back faced Maryke.
'I like hair up,' she scooped up her hair and piled it atop her head.
'Maiko has hair up. It not meant to be all,' she made flappy motions with her hands to try and describe loose and free.
'I want look,' she went to chew on a fingernail then stopped herself.
'Very prett-y.'

Maryke Jimenez

"Well pretty I can definitely do," she grinned, reaching for her back and pulling out a claw, she looked at the claw and then back to Sayuri's raven locks. She second guessed herself and then went back into her bag. "Like your hair when I first saw you?" she asked, and before waiting for an answer she replied, "I think I can do that..."

She reached back in and picked out a few hairpins before moving and twisting the hair around until it was up in the 'maiko' style like Sayuri had when Maryke first seen her. She put the pins in and then topped it off with a little haircomb that she'd actually knew was from Japan, or at least that's what the guy selling it to her said.

"Look good?" she asked, hanging her a small mirror so she could see once the madam had finished.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri nodded;
'Yes I would like that please.' she sat still then, patiently waiting whilst Maryke moved, combed and pinned her hair. It didnt take long, and was far less painful then a normal visit. Hair and hot wax did not mix and she would often sit with tears in her eyes as the hairdresser pulled it and looped it around.
She nodded happily as Maryke showed her the finished product;
'Sankyuu! It look much pretty.'

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke gave a self satisfied little grin as she admired her 'handywork'. It wasn't just that she knew herself that it looked good, but also because Sayuri was happy about it too, and admiration from others never passed with someone like the madam.

"Good, good, now let's do your nails then makeup, mmmkay?" She said, this time sitting down on the floor next to Sayuri, and rifling through her bag once more. She pulled out two polishes. "Which.....we got...Sapphire blue or....Passionate Red.....?"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri turned, shuffling around on the floor so that she faced Maryke. She wondered what more make-up Maryke could put on her as she was already wearing a lighter version of her entertaining face. Maybe she would clean it off first and then put something else on.
'Blue, pre...please.' she said, reaching out and tapping the bottle.
She quite liked blue, her tail was a little uncomfortable but was a very pretty colour in her mind.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke was.....Maryke and thus even though Sayuri was wearing makeup already, in the madam's mind, it had to match perfectly. She figured that Sayuri's customs had something to do with it to, or so she figured, but she didn't see why she couldn't 'tweak' it a bit.

"Good choice," she said getting out the nail polish and tapping the top a few times, before she opened it and went to apply the coat to Sayuri's nails. Before she did she frowned slightly, "Well someone's a biter," she muttered, "No worries, I can fix this..." She went back into her back and got the file. She shaped what was left of her nails and once Maryke was done then she applied the coat.

"While that dries, I'll fix up your face..." she said, she got out a white eyeline and commanded, "Look up, I'm using this to make your eyes look wider, yanno, bring 'em out more and all that."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri nodded meekly as Maryke frowned at the state of her nails.
'I bite when I get..nervous.' she admitted.
'Have not bite so much since here on Island, not have people shout at me.'
She watched quietly as the madam shaped and then applied the polish to her nails, wiggling them whilst it dried.
Wider eyes would probably look a little strange on Sayuri but she obeyed anyway, looking up ceiling-wards.
'You do this each day?' she asked. Somehow it seemed more complicated then her traditional makeup.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke couldn't help but chuckle when Sayuri spoke of her nervous habit, but let it pass. At the question she looked up from what she was doing, which was finishing the eyeliner and adding a little more blush, darker then what it looked like Sayuri had orignally and then she shook her head, "Not every day, sometimes I do a little touch and go....uh....like just a little bit of lipstick and that's it."

Once finished she began putting her things away and couldn't help but voice something that had been ticking in the back of her mind. "Now then....whose the guy?"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri looked back down again when Maryke seemed to be done with her eyes, she had moved on to her cheeks and was brushing some sort of colour onto them.
'I had to paint my face every night for entertaining,' she said.
'When I not have it on my face, I dont look like me.'
Her make-up and dress was her identity after so many years. Without them she felt like half a person.
'Guy?' she echoed. She looked down to the floor.
'I just like look nice. It not for anyone.'
How could she tell Maryke that she not only knew that Sabin was responsible for the fish tail and all, and yet she still liked him? Besides, it was not for her to say anything about what they had spoken of during the dinner.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke let a little grin cross her features, the 'knowing' look, she seemed to have a different grin or look for everything she was thinking. She'd always been very expressive, which was one downfall she had. If she'd ever tried to play poker then she'd flat out loose, having a 'poker face' was something she just couldn't do. If she was thinking or feeling something then, well then it was easy to read off her.

"Uh huh, whatever you say," she said leaning back a little. "Well, in any case now you look good enough to do whatever 'entertaining' you want." She quirked an eyebrow, watching Sayuri closely. This was her buisiness, she could instantly tell when one of her 'working girls' had fallen in love with their client, so she'd been around enough to know when someone was having the hots for someone else. Obviously though, she couldn't tell who it was that seemed to hold this girl's eye. So she let it pass. It wasn't really her place anyway.

Sayuri Satoharu
'Sankyuu!' Sayuri smiled happily and bowed very low. When she sat back upright again she had a questioning look on her face.
'May Sayuri ask something of you?' she hoped Maryke would help her as she had some things she needed to know before she saw Sabin again.

Maryke Jimenez

"Anytime," Maryke said simply, merely giving a little headnod to the girl as she bowed. At the question the grin she usualy wore waned off slightly and both eyebrows raised, "Uh sure, what's up?"

Sayuri Satoharu
'It not a big thing.' Sayuri assured her.
'It is,' she looked around furtively as if she was expecting someone to be watching or listening.
'I not know things like kissu..or what men and woman do when they are, in bed..' she trailed off, her face aflame with a blush.
'I not ever kissu man.'

Maryke Jimenez

Oh...... Maryke's eyes widened at this omission. Briefly she wondered how old the girl was, but since when did that ever matter to her? If Sayuri was old enough to ask questions such as this then in the madam's eyes she was old enough to.....well do any act that came afterwards.

"Kissing," she muttered first assuming that's what 'kissu' meant. "Well men and woman they.......they sleep together.....have sex...you know," she held up a hand and extended an index finger, curling all the others. She then held up her other one and brought her index finger and thumb together, making an oval of sorts. With that she brought both hands together in a rapid motion. "Like this...."

Sayuri Satoharu
'Yes,' she nodded gratefully as Maryke said the word, she'd known they were fairly similiar at any rate.
'I have not..no man has ever.' and she put fingers to her lips.
'Is it tricky to do?'
She stopped, blinking at Maryke's finger puppetry.
'They do that when in bed together?'
Why would that be such a difficult thing to explain? It was kind of like rock, paper, scissors - only not. Sayuri felt relief that this sex stuff wasnt as scary as she had been led to believe. She held her own hand up, making the oval shape with her fingers and poking another one in between. Well, she always liked to practice stuff before performing, this was no different.
'Am I doing this sex right?' she asked, a worried look on her face.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke nodded. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Sayuri was still proudly caring her V-card. And again, she wondered about the man Sayuri was obviously interested in. Why else would she be needing sex advice unless she intended on putting the advice to later use. She ignored the first phrase. It was best not left up to her to decide what was and wasn't tricky. Afterall there were tricks involved if you were skilled enough and that was that.

Again she nodded, this at the next phrase. "That and then some..." She leaned back a little and watched with intense hazel eyes. She was used to this sort of thing. Granted the women, and unfortunately sometimes just out of teenhood girls, she pulled into her 'business' usually knew all about the sex scene BEFORE they made it into her clutches. But there were the very few that Maryke took under her wing and made it a point to have to explain certain things. In this kind of supply and demand field sometimes you had to rechange your 'products' to meet the demand.

"Yeah...like that," she said, leaning a little closer, getting into 'explanation' mode. "Now...it might hurt a little bit at first, mmmkay? But, it's not that bad. And besides guys'll like that, yanno they like virgins....and after a while, trust me, it'll start to feel good."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri looked at her freshly painted nails, hoping they would help her make sense of all the confusing information she was being given.
'It will hurt? Is it big hurt like when I got tail?'
She wasnt too sure that she wanted to experience another painful event so soon, but if it was what Sabin was expecting...
'Why do 'guys' like..'
What was the word Maryke had said?
'Ver-gin?'
Apparently though this sex stuff was as good as had been intimated to her before. Which would be nice.

Maryke Jimenez

"No, no, it won't hurt that bad," she said quickly, almost reassuringly. She opened her mouth to explain the next question, but stopped. How to explain that one? It was simple....but not.

"Guys like it because it makes them feel good." She said, not bothering to explain what part of them it made feel good. "Men like to be in control," she said reaching both hands up and making claws, attempting to explain this with visuals. "They wanna feel like they have all the power, be dominate."

"Yes, a virgin. A girl who hasn't had sex yet, like you," She said. "Really, it's not that bad. Just make him feel like he's in control, be submissive. Which," she chuckled slightly, "I'm sure you won't have a problem with."

Sayuri Satoharu
'That is good.' she nodded, pleased that if she happened to do this sex thing it wouldnt be that painful. She couldnt see how it could be, maybe if you moved your fingers for too long they hurt? Was there something she was missing?
'Yes men like power.' she paused, listening further.
'It is good that I am virgin,' and she frowned.
'It is tricky play. Okasan say that Geisha make men feel big, like tiger with woman. But Geisha only play to make men feel big. Geisha do not let men do what want. They play like we give more then we show. But we not easy-kimono-open girls.'
It was about the longest thing she had said to Maryke since she had known her. But that's what Geisha were. They might flirt, but it would never go further unless the Geisha wanted, and that was a private thing, not to be discussed. But with Sabin. She had a feeling that she wasnt just playing with him, she had not stopped thinking about him since the dinner, and wanted to see him again soon.

Maryke Jimenez

She listened, noting that indeed there were more words in that one sentence then Sayuri had spoken to her all the time she'd known her. Which wasn't long, but in anycase it made Maryke all the more interested.

"Ah, that's how I try to look at it," she nodded.

And it was true for the most part. Sayuri and her had come from similar worlds it seemed like though the culture was very much different. Maryke had always told the girls she pandered to 'stay smart'. If they played it right then they would be the ones in control. Yes the johns (and sometimes women even) held the money, but the girls could say what they would and wouldn't do and how much. Maryke wasn't stupid. She knew that that her girls were in a world of danger, with rapes and beatings running rampant, but the madam had been successful thus far.

"You just let him THINK he's in control," she reiterated, "But if you don't want to play, then don't. Men don't mind be teased either, not if they think they still have a shot."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri smiled, pleased that she had gotten her point across and said something smart!
'They want what they think might get, and have play, but go home to wife.' she grinned a little, and bowed low before Maryke.
'Sankyu onesan,' she said, giving her the honorific of 'big sister'. She felt pleased to have met Maryke, and that she seemed to put up with her bad English and habit of getting things wrong.
'You are kind to listen and help this silly girl.'

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke chuckled at that statement as it was very true. Most Johns had wives when they ordered women from her, now she knew that it was a worldwide phenomenon, not that she had real reason to believe otherwise.

She didn't know what Sayrui had said next, but by the bow and the tones in her voice she supposed it didn't have any negative connoctations connected with it. "Great," she said grinning broadly the only thing she could think to voice, though there was a look of quasi-confusion behind her hazels. She didn't know she was being all that helpful, or at least she wasn't trying to play den mother with this girl, but hey if it helped it helped.

She waved off the thanks and praises on her 'kindness'. "Anytime Sayuri," she said, forgoing the 'china doll' nickname she had been using.

Maryke was again reminded of Colche, and both the cheetah girl and Sayuri reminded of her of the life she once had. Of the girls she once employed. Sure she may have been a heartless conniving b***h at times, but when it came to her actual girls, the women she took under her wing and then made do her dirty work. Well, at least she treated them as friends and equals, and even offered advice and lent an ear to their many woes. More then any pimp would ever care to do.

"Anything else?" she asked, stretching slightly.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri shook her head. She couldnt think of anything else that she needed to know right now, and really didnt want to impose on Maryke anymore then she had done; any longer here and she was sure to do something to undo Maryke's good opinion of her.
'I am sure Maryke is busy,' she said quietly, accidentally pronouncing the madam's name correctly for once.
'And Sayuri must be going. But onesan have to come to my Du-plex and I will give back kindness.'

Maryke Jimenez

She smiled as Sayuri got her name right, and nodded to her statement. "Will do," she said, wondering what kindness Sayuri might want to bestow back to her. Probably something in regards to culture that Maryke wouldn't be able to figure out at this point. But in any case, she stood and stretched once more.

"Now remember what I taught you," she said making way to lead her to the door. "And good luck," she added in replace of a goodbye.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri got up, rather stiffly for her tail had gone to sleep. She wiggled it gently, and then folded it against her once more so that it didnt cause a bump in the line of her kimono. She pattered behind Maryke, sliding on her sandals and giving her one last bow at the door.
'Sankyu.' she smiled as she straightened, opening the door for herself.
'Bai!' she chirped, stepping outside and turning to wave a last time before making to leave.

Maryke Jimenez

Maryke bowed back, and then muttered, "Welcome" before she watched Sayuri leave. She gave a little wave back before she shut the door behind her. She sighed all onto herself slightly. Her world had become jumbled throughout her time on the island. Before the island, premadness thought she had life figured out and she was happy in it. Now her mind was a puzzled mess and the pieces didn't seem to fit anymore.

But that was something to dwell on for another time. In the moment she began to gather and clean up her makeup mess while the time began to roll on endlessly once more.

I have a hope now that I will see Danna-san soon. I am excited to try the kissing. And the sex thing with him. It wasnt as complicated as I thought it would be, I am glad I went to see Maryke for help and advice.
Maryke dressed my hair for me. She did it very well, it looks just as elegant as my wareshinobu style was, but is easier to cope with, and it means I can still sleep on the soft bed as opposed to on the floor with my special pillow.
She told me all about the sex stuff, and how men like the fact that I am..that word. I think it was veegin, virging? The word that means I havent known a man. I am even blushing as I write this down. I hope I do not go too shy when I next see Sabin.
I miss Danna-san. I wonder if he misses me? It is probably a foolish hope for a Geisha to ever have about her Danna. I know that he is changing me, and that being here is not what I had ever expected. I expected him to be away with his wife and family when not with me. Not changing people into animals.
I hope to also see my new friend Emerwyn. I wonder if the important thing she needed those papers for has happened? Or it was something she needed them for. I was a little confused and worried about being lost in the trees.

Sabin Duvert was still, remarkably, in a rather good mood. Things were still rocky between Aubrey and Moreau, which meant that things were going quite smoothly for Duvert. Between bringing messages between the couple (and sometimes deviating the phrasing ever so slightly...) and leaving him a lot more wiggle room in his activities he felt he had secured his foothold with a fair amount of influence over the daily activities.

Even better, of course, was the progresses on his projects: two of the new 'mythical-based' subjects had gone through their first changes (and everything seemed to be going as planned!) and the third would be changing not too long off.

Of course, thinking on his pegasus and his mermaid brought up other... thoughts. Sayuri - the naieve and yet strangely optimistic geisha. She would probably be wondering where he was... despite Sayuri wanting to get close to him, Sabin couldn't help but feel awkward himself. Maybe... maybe he wasn't ready to move on... or more appropriate Sabin couldn't see Sayuri as an intellectual compatriot... someone to share his ideas and interests with...

But there was still the fascination: her change had begun, and she did seem, at least last they spoke, genuinely fond of him.

Sabin's curiousity was more than enough of an excuse for action, and so one evening after he had seen to it that his team was working hard on their assignment, Sabin changed clothes to a clean set of dark, dated formalwear, took a jeep and headed down to the village (after checking the moniters to make sure Sayuri was in) with a small box.

***

Sabin straightened his vest and rapped lightly on the door to Sayuri's duplex, holding the small box behind his back with the other hand.

Sayuri dropped the make-up brush at the knock on her Duplex door, powder spilling over the table.
'I am so clumsy..' she muttered, hastily brushing it into her hand and depositing it back into the pot. She checked her reflection quickly, she was presentable, her hair still neatly up after Maryke had dressed it, and her make-up a pared down version of the striking Maiko look. She stood, up and away from the small dressing table, brushing down her kimono and straightening her obi before padding along on bare feet. The webbing between each toes, spread and contracted as she moved, the feeling still giving her faint shivery sensations. Her tail was curled over, and she concentrated on keeping it so, as she answered the door.
'Sabin-san!' she exclaimed, immediately blushing, and making a low bow. She had not expected it to be him! Thankfully she was wearing actual kimono as opposed to the casual yukata.
'Please, come in. I am happy that Danna-san has come see me.'

Sabin gave a slight bow of his head in return as he strode casually across the doorway.

"It is nice to see you as well again, Sayuri." He smiled kindly as his eyes swept the room curiously.

The room, despite being cut from the same mold of the other duplexes, with Sayuri's meagre decorations managed to convey a Japanese flavor and atmosphere.

Sabin paused, and then bent to remove his shoes, recalling the Japanese custom. As he did, however, he set a small box down that was wrapped in a white and gold paper.

"How have you been fairing?" He asked, straightening and stepping out of his polished black shoes and picking up the small box. "Was the... first change very painful for you?"

She straightened, her face lit up with the joy that hearing he was happy to see her brought. Her eyes caught the box that he put down and then picked up again. She knelt, picking his shoes up with a graceful care and slid them onto a small shelved table just inside the door, admiring how well they sat next to her smaller sandals. Lost in thoughts such as these she almost forgot herself but then came back to the moment and stood again.
She gently touched his arm, motioning towards the living area of the Duplex where thin embroidered cushions were arranged around a low table.
'Sabin-san will sit and be comfortable?' she asked tentatively, stalling for time as she tried to arrange words and thoughts to answer his question about her change. She herself knelt, hands folded on her lap, and then moved as she'd sat awkwardly on her tail. Once settled again, she answered him.
'Danna is kind to ask, but it was only a small painful.'
If she admitted the whole truth, she feared he would find her wanting. And she very much wanted him to never find fault with her.

Sabin had intentionally waited a bit before visiting her after her change. It was never easy for even the most steadfast of individuals to deal with the changes. And so Sabin wished for Sayuri to have some time to grow acclimated to her new... fascinating tail. "I am sorry that it caused you the pain, but we have yet to find a way to have the process occur without pain. After all... they are quite severe physical changes."

And indeed, even the notes had said that she was adjusting well, but still, it never hurt to give her a bit of time.

He smiled to her and walked over to the pillows that sat by the low table, taking his place with a kneel. "Thank you for being so hospitable. Perhaps I should have called first to let you know I was coming.."

He set the box on the table between them. "I have brought you a small something." He said with a hint of a smile, as he opened the lid for her.

Inside was a crystalline hair pin, reminiscient of a spray of flowers.

"Perhaps this one will be a bit more durable." He smiled. "I apologize again for the damage that Beastie did to your other one."

'It was only a little hurt,' she insisted, trying to show him that she was stronger then she might have first seemed to be. She worried constantly about how she appeared to Sabin, wanting him to like her.
She nodded;
'The tail, it was - it came out all funny but it look pretty.' she wriggled under her kimono, forgetting herself for a moment but then reigned it in, curling it back over.
'Danna-san is always welcome,' she bowed her head, colour returning in her cheeks as he sat. She looked at him, taking in his appearance once more, his height, the clothes that were still so strange yet becoming familiar. She found herself staring and looked away again.
'For me?'
Sayuri couldnt quite believe that he had come bearing a gift again. She waited whilst the box lid was removed and her mouth dropped open, a hand fluttering over it.
'It is very beautiful,' she managed, stunned at the thoughtfulness of the gift. She stood, padded over to Sabin's side and kneeled before him, before bowing low, her hands out before her as her head touched the floor. She sat up again and smiled at him.
'Sankyu.' she said with feeling.
