nathan_ngl YvetteEmilieDupont i don't see any problem in guys either they could be very observant reformed jews ^.^ i get really defensive in this subject -.- i would so freak out if i was with you in israel when your rabbi said that can anyone be confirmed by the othodox rabbi but then just go and be with all the reformed jews ^.^ I'm glad you understand what I meant now sweatdrop 3nodding Well if you'd wanna freak out, then you'd have to wait in line smile . My rabbi has pissed off a large amount of people... If you search under google you'll find he was behind the ban on "shitat harizuot" (basically preventing a disaster), he sure did freak out alot of people on the way xp . But he really is a good rabbi, he just... goes alittle extreem sometimes rolleyes ... ah thats good i'll wait my turn in line wow if he pissed me off that much i'd just find another synagogue to go to yea sorry if i made you think i was all pissed off at you i wasn't i just got really defensive over it because my sister is lesbian and she's like the only one that completely supports me and wishes me the best in this whole jewish converting thing she's awsome. ^.^ so anyone that says that gays are evil people and are going to hell is going to have a nice little friendship with me

Within walking distance of 10 minuites I have about 7 different shuls. Eshkenaz, Yeki, Sfard, Habad, Tunisai, Sfaradi, Karlibah... I by chance am in the same shul as my rabbi... I think He's following me ninja ... It's no-where near his home rofl

YvetteEmilieDupont i don't see any problem in guys either they could be very observant reformed jews ^.^ you do know that that is an oximoron, right? reformism does not follow the torah, and so is not technically judaism. YvetteEmilieDupont i get really defensive in this subject but you have nothing to defend YvetteEmilieDupont -.- i would so freak out if i was with you in israel when your rabbi said that yvetter. this is what i was talking about. the prohibition against homosexuality is from the torah, and stated quite clearly. the torah was written by hashem. what nathan's rebbe is doing is merely taking a stance that supports the torah. you don't argue with the torah. YvetteEmilieDupont can anyone be confirmed by the othodox rabbi but then just go and be with all the reformed jews ^.^ confirmed? i'm pretty sure you mean converted. and yes. but what would be the point? just go to a reform rabbi. it's easier.

nathan_ngl Let's just make something clear, the torah doesn't say anything about lesbians... only males sex is mentioned. wrong. although it doesn't mention lesbians in the pshat, it is inclusive, because of the way it's worded. see my post on page 7.

There are many dissagrements within the rishonim and ahronim. Secondly, when you dissagree, you say "excuse me, i think otherwise" not "wrong"... and we all feel alittle better smile 3nodding blaugh heart

Do not follow [any] of their customs." (Leviticus 18:3). The oral law (Sifra Aharei Mot 8:8-9) explains that what is meant is sexual customs and that one of those was the marriage of women to each other, as well as a man to a woman and her daughter. The Talmud follows this view, forbidding lesbianism. Like all Rabbinical prohibitions, violation can incur lashes. Female homosexual behaviour, because there is no penile penetration involved, is regarded as less serious than male homosexual behaviour. This is derabanan.... Besides, we aren't talking just orthodox here...

*sigh* Another warning, zonko. Please try to phrase things in a polite manner. Instead of saying, "wrong," say something like, "I'm sorry-I'm not sure if your information is accurate." It is so much nicer, and most people don't have the kind of temperament to deal with constant bickering whenever they state an opinion. Not trying to be the evil, rule-crazed person here, but the atmosphere is getting more tense, and it's not as much fun sad Also, a note to everybody: I know this is a highly controversial thread, and tempers run high, but just a note to everybody-please calm down. We have the right to free speech. If somebody wanted to say they believed the world is made of giant purple cows, and for some extremely strange reason had some kind of evidence to back it up, then respect their opinion, and don't post with the intention of proving them wrong. Correct an error in a polite manner, maybe, but lay off the insulting. To quote Kia's rule thread, which almost nobody seems to be reading here: Quote: Respect This one is important to me. Many of our new members are more observant than the majority of the guild. One of the most important things about being Jewish is kindness to your fellow Jew. You may not consider their way of observance correct, but that's too bad. Don't say anything about another way of observance that could offend someone. It's rude, it's obnoxious, and they are your fellow Jews, no matter what movement they are a part of, if any! So don't. Again, not trying to be the evil rude person here. On the contrary, I'm really not trying to offend anybody at all (I'm truly sorry if this does) but please, calm down a little people. sweatdrop
