Calidar looked at Ryan. They weren't going south? That was unexpected. But she had clothing for all types of weather back at her quarters. And Tanneth would do fine; her tough hide would keep out all sorts of cold. But northeast to fight the Krag? She shook her head. They would cope.

"Thanks for the heads up, Ryan," she forced herself to say. "How long will we have to prepare?"

"There will be ample time to see to the wolves."

"Tanneth!" Calidar cried. She lowered her voice to a low whisper. "How many times do I have to remind you, wolves aren't supposed to be near here, on account of everyone else that has small animals for pets or friends. Wolves would be driven off for sure."

"I don't see why. They do not harm the Riders, and would not dare to harm any creature if dragons are near. Whatever we do not eat from here is enough to give them strength. They are wise; you have made them so."

Calidar sighed. Tanneth was too outspoken about these things around others. She looked at Ryan and Toreth.

"Please don't tell anyone," she pleaded. "The wolves haven't done anything wrong."

Toreth agreed with what Calidar said and shook his head to show it. When Tanneth spoke up about wolves though his ears purked up and he listened to every word they said with great care.

"I promise not to tell anyone so long as I get to see one. There was a wolve back at my farm that I would toss scrapes to ever so often. He became are friends and he had his whole pack help gard are sheep in return to an easy meal. We gave them some of the meat for the cows and sheep when we slathered them."

Chandra came up behind her rider and placed her head under his hand asking for a scratch. "Chandra has always asked me about them. She seems quite fasinated with them." He said with a smile.

Cain stiffened, realizing that another presence was in his immediate vicinity. The defense mode was not working. Even though, technically, it wouldn't fail until Cain acknowledged who was beside him , Cain was a little too simple minded to just continue packing without knowing who had disturbed him. In the back of his mind, Cain knew exactly who was there, however, in an effort to keep his grumpy mood up, he didn't feel like acknowledging that he knew.

Still... he couldn't help but take a tiny glance. Fieryn. Cain resisted the impulse to get up and leave right then. He liked Fieryn, a lot, but he had his share of females for the day. But he knew he couldn't just ignore her. It would just be too rude. Besides, it was just one run in with a little girl right? And the abuse of his ribs twice... and the jeering from Veraldimir... and the news of going there where he would surely freeze to death. Cain couldn't tell if this day was actually good or not anymore.

Veraldimir, catching the other dragon's thought , shook his head in agreement, replying in equal secrecy, "Someday they'll figure it out.... I don't know about Fieryn, but Cain is denser than a box of rocks. Someone needs to step in and push them along... otherwise, I'll be in my grave before the two realize that bush-beating just won't work...." He paused thoughtfully before adding, " Of course, if Cain wants to suffer, I have absolutely no problem with it.... I just say all this in consideration of Ms. Fieryn, of course. Maybe if my idiot of a rider starts to act his age, he'll be come a gentlemen, and then I may only be an old, near-death dragon before they realize anything. Then again, expecting Cain to become anything other than a pathetic, dramatic.... farmboy is like asking a miracle... who knows..."

Cain, meanwhile, with the help of Fieryn, had finished packing. Taking his things from Fieryn, careful not to snatch the items from her in any offending manner, Cain nodded his thanks and walked to Veraldimir, where he began to secure his things onto the dragon. What was there to say? Cain couldn't very well announce to the girl that he had been verbally abused in many different ways today. That would just be strange. But he couldn't leave her sitting there. That would be too mean. He sighed, securing the bags even tighter.

Veraldimir kicked him hard in the shin, and Cain bit his lip from shouting. "Cain, get your pansy arse over there, and be nice to the poor lady. She likes you, and you're acting like an idiot." The dragon hissed quietly, so that Fieryn wouldn't hear. Cain looked to his partner, gulping in the fresh wave of pain his shin gave him. Veraldimir was right. And Cain hated him.

Walking back to Fieryn, whom he had unkindly left sitting on her own, Cain stood next to her and offered her his hand, looking at the ground, saying softly, "thank you."

Calidar looked at Toreth. Her face showed total relief. She nodded her head curtly.

"Thank you, Toreth," she said. "If you want, I'll take you to see the pack when I visit them. I'll have to tell them where I'm going so they'll know I won't be able to cover up for them. But Tanneth and Chandra won't be able to see them up close. From a distance is fine, but Green Wind and the others are still nervous around Tanneth. Oh, Green Wind is the pack's alpha male. There are four others; I'll introduce you when we see them."

She smiled at the thought of seeing Green Wind again. He had volunteered to spy on the Surk for a few days, and he'd just returned. She had missed his company. The pack had left only two wolves, males just out of their puppy days.

"I wish I could be near them. They seem nice, but I do not like to be far from you, Calidar. And if one is badly hurt and you do not have the skils necessary, how will I heal them? It isn't fair that I cannot be close to them as well."

Tanneth crooned sadly to emphasize her words. Calidar did not miss the plaintive note in her friend's voice. She patted Tanneth's foreleg affectionately.

"Don't worry, love," she said. "They'll get usd to you soon."

"As is what I hope."

Admittedly, she had slipped into a dream-like haze as she silently helped Cain pack....letting the stray looks in his direction make her heart flutter and mind daydream.
Curizon quietly absorbed her fancies and felt very urged to let his tongue loose to agree with Veraldimir about the needed push. Maybe it would do the lad good for him to know that Fieryn imagined herself in a sundress skipping around in a meadow searching for petals to make him a flower crown. So they could just go do it. Well....after this immediate Krag business, he supposed. Which he was always surprised to that she would seem to forget as soon as this boy caught her sights, like he was a magical attention-getting lightening rod of some sort. But if Curizon found anything particularly interesting about this Rider, it was his Dragon whom did posess consideration of others' feelings and secret confidence for his partner. Curizon doubted that Veraldimir really saw Cain as that hopeless, just as impossible. An impossible whisper of a word he felt sure he was not supposed to hear, so he let it slide. He was about to retort as the young master rose from his Rider's side and started to pack Veraldimir. He could not help but laugh inwardly as a kick was administered to set the boy back to courteously retrieve her.
Fieryn drifted back to earth as Cain took hold of his items and left her. Biting her lip, her dimming green hues watched as he joined his Dragon on the veranda with her own nearby. And here was she, just foolishly remaining on his floor. Considering the ground a moment, she pondered.

Hearing a mental chuckle, her eyes shot to Curizon suspiciously. Oh, what'd he find so funny? But before she could look to see the other pair, Cain was at her side again. He simply looked like, to anyone else, to be extending a hand to help her up again. From her angle though, and from her transfixed sparkle, Fieryn saw him much differently. He was a towering, radiant god to her basking in humble gratitude, too shy to even raise his glance from the ground. With a smile she softly replied and took his hand, starting to pull herself upward.
"You're welcome--!"
The composure she attempted backfired into unsteadiness, so her rise was not a smooth one. Rather when she ascended, the girl stumbled forward and found herself pressed against Cain's chest....so close to him....with her free arm turning to swing around his back. She almost fell and, she was somewhat hugging him? Oh, my. In a moment she had reason to believe that he would shudder in his foul mood and they correct themselves, but while they were still in the current shock of surprise- it was nice. And discreetly, but positively, Fieryn could feel herself give a muffled sigh.

[ Cheesy anime move!! xd Score +1! Sorry, but I had to do it.... ]

"Wolves are an interesting study. They can accomplish much, though they seem insigifigant." Ryan reached up to rub Torokal's neck, and found the orders. He'd stuck them under the edge of the gorget, and forgotten to get them back.

"Ah! There they are. I was starting to worry I'd have to search through my old gear. And it says:
'Due to the obvious strength and abilities of our Wing our mission has been shifted to the Krag front lines. We shall be on this run for at least a month before we earn leave so prepare accordingly. Once we arrive our base camp will provide us with all the food and shelter we need but you must be prepared to care for yourselves for the two day flight to the camp. The Krag lines are North and West from here. The chill of fall is yet to come and the front lines have advanced into neutral weather territory so we should not have to worry overmuch about harsh cold, however be prepared.' And then it mentions the new armor, and warmer gear, plus there's some last-minute stuff she'll tell us on our way out."

Torokal interupted his train of thought with, "I saved you a haunch. Should feed you for a good week."

"So those are our orders, I'd say you summed them up pertty well earlier my friend."

((No problem. Dang! this a fun rp!))

Calidar nodded. "That's perfect," she said. "Nothing we can't handle. Tanneth and I have been waiting for a good flight, as well. Two days will be magnifacent."

"Yes. I do not wish for my wings to become small and weak. I depend on their strength too much."

Calidar patted Tanneth's shoulder. A two-day flight would be perfect.

"Is that all?" she asked. "I have to take care of things before we go."

[Wait, there are three pairs outside now, right? @_@ After he eats, I'll just have Ulrich stalk someone, or something.]

As he strutted outside and prepared to find himself a worthy meal, the vain dragon realizes something. With his armor on, he'd sparkle and jingle a bit. Giving a soft growl of displeasure does the vibrant dragon wanders into the woods and heads for the nearby beach. Perhaps he could snatch a lurking shark along the top of the water, or even a seal and a dolphin. Ulrich knows this is an odd choice of food, but as long as he's the one hunting it for himself, he doesn't mind. Now stepping onto the damp shoreline, salty wind blasts into his nostrils enticingly. A triangular fin submerges a distance away and gets his attention. Rising into the air, his strong wings propel him forth. Still with the shark in sight, scaled claws are lowered to latch on eagerly. Lowering his form a bit and arching his neck to look down for a proper view of what's beneath, Ulrich severed his sharp claws in the shark's back. Only his front ones though, the shark is about several feet in length. Swiftly lifting himself high into the air to avoid any other sharks nearby, the dragon takes his wobbling prey ashore. Unceremoniously dropping it into the sand, he lands and tears his jaws into the suffocating predator's side.

Cain's eyes widened as Fieryn stumbled into him with the balance of a one-legged chair, and he put an arm around her back to hold her steady just as she grabbed onto him. His actions were stiff and robotic, and the inner Cain paused momentarily to take in exactly what had just happened. He was ignoring people... he remembered that part... and then he got kicked, again... and then we went to help Fieryn, who he didn't want to ignore, and she was now hugging him. While he was hugging back.

Confused, Cain looked back towards his door. Wait... why am I ignoring people again? and then it came to him. The taunting. the humiliation. the abused rib cage. Thanks to females. But standing there, holding Fieryn when he knew he should have let go, made Cain wonder exactly why he didn't feel that she would taunt him too. He couldn't remember a time she had made fun of him intentionally.... or when Curizon did either.... come to think of it, Cain couldn't recall a time when Fieryn had been anything but happy, albeit a little embarassed, to see him.

Relaxing much more, Cain reddened slightly at realizing that he was no longer attempting to keep Fieryn from falling. He was hugging her. If he wasn't, Cain was positive that he wouldn't have heard Veraldimir snickering in the background.

"Not exactly a kick... but it works..."

Cain looked around confused. What was the dragon talking about? What was he doing still holding Fieryn? Why in the world wasn't he saying anything? And how long did he have until she got mad at him for not doing anything?

Cain shook his head in defeat. This was the story of his life. He was tossed from event to event for better or worse, and he got through it. Perhaps he could do without the female race... but only if Fieryn was still there. Luckily, traveling to the north meant almost that. Sure there would be other girls around... but none like the notorious Lillian. So he would be alright. This was how it was, and no ignoring of people would change that. It was best just to be the Cain he was supposed to be, and go with the flow. It had always worked before.

Pulling slowly away from Fieryn, Cain smiled down at her, moving a hand from her back to her shoulder. "You know... if you wanted a hug, you could've just asked."

((aagh! I did it again! Chalice you should be angry with me xDD anytime Fieryn and Cain are together I make some stupid long post that makes Fieryn end up having to stand around in thought all the time.... I really need to work on my posting >___<))
PostPosted: Sun Sep 17, 2006 8:17 pm

[No, that's quite all right. xD This time it was totally awesome. ;3]

"Perhaps this kinder method than a kick proves to be more effective. I'm not saying that we should go around tripping either of them, though...."

To this strange comment, which Fieryn did not believe was meant for her, the girl realized something. Even after the surprise of it had faded, even after her contented little sigh-- they were still hugging. He had brought up his arm around her, as well! If the trip were to have been the only contact she had with Cain over the course of the next month, over the span of their whole mission, she felt like she would have been satisfied. She had her moment to bump against him, to feel his warmth between whatever gloom lurked inside him. For the accidental nearness she was appeased. But it lingered. The embrace lingered and was frozen upon them both, as if it were some great realization- an action to provoke thought. But it was so, actually. Yet only for one thought.

Why hadn't they done this before?

As Cain continued to hold her, and she felt as he speculatively turned his head about in consideration, everything about the moment just felt so....right. As if the cosmos had sighed 'Finally!', if not her own Dragon did. She could hear her crush's heartbeat from this depth and beamed, as if someone had pulled the lightchain for her spirit. Fie was reminded of how her partner's pulse matched hers, and in this moment with Cain, theirs were alike as well. Steady. Rapid. ....Affectionate.
When Fieryn was upset, agitated, or hoppin' mad the magic of her father's bloodline would coarse from her, flames to spark unwittingly in the most unusual places as an expression of the emotion. A trait to skip the generations of Tukoberson women, now hers, as she exhbitied a bit in her zealotry of the morning. But at this moment, Fieryn could feel a different fire within her- fresh upon her cheeks, and appearing as magnificently as the noonday sun when Cain looked down to her and spoke. It was the flame of pure happiness. His contact with her did not cease even as he pulled away, but lingered to her grateful shoulder. Her arm loosed only slightly as it trailed in the slowest manner down his back. To his phrase she replied with comment unsure of whether she asked for the hug just given, or a new one in its stead. But if it were the latter she meant and received, she would definately not complain. Might just burst into a little pile of sunshine all over his clean floor, though.

"....Can I have a hug?"

"Just don't drool over his nice new armor, dearest."

Chandra stood up straight and snorted at Toreth, "okay, okay." Toreth jumped up into Chandra's saddle and looked back at his friends.

"Calidar, Ryan, I think we best go see those wolves so we can get to our packing. We don't want to be cut short and not have everything ready."

"I agree completely and I don't want to be stuck with a complaning rider. I might be compeled to dump him." She turned and looked at her rider with a grin that look simple evil. He oped it was because a dragon couldn't really smile.

"I'm ready when ever you .......," was that last thing he got out when Chandra took to the skys on her own accord.
