Popping her head above water for a quick breath of air, Kayce got a good fresh lungful before sinking back beneath the surface. She could vaguely see the green shape that was Nereida, somewhere down below her. She could also see Dierdre continuing to struggle with the thing. How long had she been in under for now? Surely she couldn't last much longer.
Throwing caution to the winds and deciding to take a page out of her little brother's book, Kayce used the only sharp weapon she had at her disposal at the moment: her teeth. Swimming toward the creature, she managed to grab hold of one of its flailing tentacles (though which one, she didn't know), and she promptly gave it a good sharp bite. Actually, it wasn't a bite; it was more of a chomp mixed with an underwater snarl.
It occurred to her then that the thing could have poisonous flesh. Ooops. Well, it was a bit late to worry about that. Anyway, it wasn't like she was biting pieces off. She had just bitten its disgusting, rubbery, slimy... sucker-covered arm.

Seeing as Kayce had not, in fact, taken the sharktooth from her, Nereida gripped it like a dagger and stabbed it into the arm that was around Dierdre's arm. The thing recoiled and let go of the fae in surprise, turning its attention to Nereida.
"Surface, now," Nereida burbled at Dierdre as she stabbed at the thing with the tooth.

Dierdre's lungs were ready to burst, she didn't have time to express her gratitude to Nereida as she made a b-line to the surface. She crashed out of the water and took great gulping breaths. Her throat and stomach were aching with the small amount of water she'd swallowed while down there.
A fine thing it was, go to help capture a seamonster and get tangled up with it instead. There had to be an easier way to do this. Sure, and she'd help fight as long as she was a good ways away from it. There wasn't any hurry to be repeating that last scenario.
But... maybe, she quickly yanked out her hair tie and let her long black and white tresses float on the surface. She positioned a notch of her stick into one side of the hair band and pulled it like a bow and arrow. She'd lose her stick, but no one could say she didn't at least try.
Taking a very deep breath she plunged under again to see the monster. She took aim and positioned herself close enough (but not too close) to have a good shot.
Firing off the arrow, she watched as it flew through the water and stuck the thing in the eye again. That would serve it right. Fearing another struggle she retreated back to the surface.

Seeing that Dierdre had been released and feeling the burn in her own lungs, Kayce quickly released her jawhold on the beast and kicked up to the surface. Yuuuuuuck! She was so bringing her swords the next time she came to the beach.
Still trying to spit the disgusting taste out of her mouth, she spied Dierdre ducking back underwater. Oh... what now?! Not feeling inclined to rescue the nasty-mouthed fae again, Kayce simply took a deep breath and sank back beneath the water, blinking salt-encrusted eyes to look for the action. Not that she could see much, anyway.

Nereida watched the stick embed itself in the creature's eye and took it between her webbed fingers. With a grunt, she drove it deeper, hearing the faint crackle of breaking cartilage and a lack of resistance as it drove into the creature's brain. A slight gush of blood began to stain the water murky red.
The creature's arms went lax. It seemed to be, for all good measures, dead.
"Help me get it to the surface!" Nereida called to the other girls, a mass of bubbles escaping her mouth.

Feeling slightly pleased with her shot, Dierdre eyed the seemingly dead monster with disgust. She didn't really want to get any nearer to the ugly thing, what if it wasn't dead? But it didn't seem to be latching it self onto Nereida again.
So, she took a quick break to the surface to take another breath and tie up her long hair again, and dove under. Maybe she could just grab the stick and help carry it that way.
Ugh, it was so gross though, the creatures blood was floating in the water and it was sickening to think of swimming through it. Using a repulsed face and keep as much distance as possible between herself and the monster, she grabbed hold to the far end of the stick and began to try and help heave it out of the water.
How very repulsive...

With Dierdre's Help, Nereida pushed the thing to the surface. "Um, I think we should put it on the raft and take it back to show off."
Out of the water, it really didn't look quite so fearsome. Just a silly creature with a too-big head and eight goofy, limp tentacles.

Kayce trailed behind the other fae as they headed for the surface. She spat out a bit of saltwater as soon as her head came above water. The ocean was certainly not a tasty place to swim in.
Seeing that the creature was... dead, she took one of its sucker-covered tentacles, wrinkling her nose a bit at the rubbery texture of it. "I think the parents will like it," she remarked dryly, watching it float. "Too bad the other ones couldn't help us," she added, eyeing the distance between it and the raft. "Two of us can hop on and pull it on the raft while the other one pushes."

"Yeah," Nereida replied, nodding in agreement. "I think that's the best thing to do."
She grabbed the thing around the base of its "head" and began kicking towards the raft. "We're all expert sea monster hunters after today, huh?"

If possible, the thing was even uglier above the surface, and the stench was 1,000 times worse. Still holding the stick and a distance she helped kick the thing over to the raft. It's lifeless tentacles trailing over the surface of the water.
It didn't seem so dangerous now, of course it was dead, but still... how did something so ugly and harmless looking cause so much discord below the water's surface? And would Ronnie like it? Probably, it was ugly, like the entire interior of the apartment, they suited each other.
"Aye, that we are, though I'll be letting you take home the prize. It was your monster in the first place." Honestly, she didn't want the proof that she was a seasoned sea monster hunter.
The swim back to the raft was slower for many reasons, mainly because they were trying to carry a seamonster back with them. Not wanting to be the one to stay in the water and push it onto the raft. Holding herself from gagging, she grasped one of the bloody, slimy tentacles and began to pull.
Gods, all she wanted was a hot shower and a tub of soap.

Kayce nodded and grabbed a firmer hold on the one tentacle, using her free hand and legs to move herself toward the raft.
Wait... when had she had a free hand?
Ah well. It appeared that amidst the scuffle, she had misplaced her stick. It was nothing that important. There were plenty more on the beach, though hers had had a nice feel to it. They had captured the sea monster, and that was far more significant than bringing back a nice stick.
When they reached the edge of the raft, Kayce elected to stay in the water. It's not as if it would smell any better if she got out, nor would it be any less rubbery. Best to just shove it up there and get it over with, which is what she started to do.

Nereida hopped up on the raft, pulling the sea monster behind her by two of its tentacles. "I'm not sure what we're going to do with this thing," she shrugged.
It was now fully on the raft, though the tips of its tentacles seemed to drag in the water a little. "What a pathetic creature," she stated, grabbing the paddle and starting to row out of the cove. "Come on, I think we're done here."

As soon as the thing was safely aboard, Kayce levered herself up onto the raft. Giving herself a quick shake in lieu of drying off, she settled herself on the raft. "It is kind of pathetic," she agreed, eyeing the rather sorry-looking thing. "I wish we hadn't had to kill it."
With that, she fell quiet and seemed content to stay silent, simply staring at the creature's carcass and thinking.

Nereida pondered it for a moment. Yes, it was quite sad that they had had to kill the creature, but it would have killed them, and now the cove was safe for swimming. "It'll be OK to swim in the cove now that it's gone, though," she stated, as if it made things better. She was rowing the raft slowly - it was harder to move with the creature on it.

After they succesfully pulled the thing on board, Dierdre promptly put as much space as she could between herself and the blob. The others could lament all they wanted about the sick looking creature, but Dierdre didn't care. It was alive and now it was dead, they all helped to kill it. So why was everyone feeling so pensive? If they didn't want to kill it, then they shouldn't have gone after it.
Dierdre wrinkled her nose at the stench of the creature though. It was so strong out of the water, and there was blood leaking onto the raft, how gross. As far as she was concerned, the sooner they were at the beach the sooner she could distance herself from it.
