Machus seated himself beside Merloue as permission was granted for him to do so, amused expression still resting on his features and curling the corners of his lips upward. Resting his hands palm-down on either side of himself, the fox leaned back and looked upwards for a few moments as the question was asked. "Oh, it's been so terrible. Babies all over, screaming, yelling, fighting, occasional pockets of quiet... getting groceries, helping make meals, helping do dishes. Like I said, terrible," he remarked tone mixed with a falsetto as well as sarcasm. "And what about your own?"

Wiggling his toes, Mer looked at his feet, trying to avoid staring at the other fox. "Much the same, I would have to say. I've barely had a moment of peace." Turning his own attention up to the sky, he flushed. "I'm partly to blame myself, I guess. I added to the screaming with my own runt." He looked slantways at the auburn fox to see his reaction.

Machus gazed over the darkening field for several moments before lowering his eyelids to half-mast with a light sigh. "You aren't the only one guilty of that..." he murmured. And he knew the fault was with him. The kid had a smart mouth sometimes, but it was his own fault that he could be so short tempered...

Mer lowered his gaze. Of course the other fox would've had a life as well. Pushing his bangs from his face, he smiled. "Ginn isn't so bad. He's a sweet kid. Ash isn't too bad either, but I rarely see her. The other kids in my house however..." Mer shuddered, thinking of brats like Rhys. Hell, some of the "adults" were even more immature than the kids.

Machus wrapped his tail around himself, lowering his fingers to brush through the fur, removing little snags here and there. "I suppose... that I could say the same for my own. Orion, though I admit I haven't seen him so much, is a good kid, and I complain about Cato a lot, but he's a good kid too." Dropping one hand to his side, the fox twisted to crack his back before settling his hands on the ground again, tail flicking back.

Mer nodded, fiddling with his "CHIRP~" shirt. As much as he had hated it as a child, it had grown on him. Looking up at the stars he sighed softly. "That's good. Anything else exciting and noteworthy in your life?"

Machus rested his weight back on his hands, leaning back some. Watching a breeze pass over the field, bending the grass only momentarily before letting it straighten again, he sighed. "Not quite," he remarked offhand. "What about yours?"

Mer shook his head. His life had always been rather uneventful, and, dare he say, boring. There'd been a few eventful moments, meeting Char, meeting fox beside him, his... night with Kon, and of course Ginn and Ash, but other than that... Sighing, he flopped back onto the grass, staring up at the night's sky.

Machus tilted his head to watch the fox beside him fall backwards onto the grass, a faint smile curling his own lips. Looking back to the field, the distant horizon, the sky pricked with stars as night fell, he chuckled softly. "Mm, point taken."

Mer turned his head to look at the other and it occurred to him that he still couldn't drag up the other's name. "Hey," he said apologetically, extending his hand, "After all these years, I can't seem to recall your name, so let's reintroduce ourselves. I'm Merloue, but you can call me Mer."

Machus chuckled softly at the other's statement. Though as he thought about it, for the life of him, the other fox's name wouldn't come to him either. Yet even though hearing it sounded familiar, he couldn't remember it. And... it didn't bother him. Even having not known the fox's name, talking with him just seemed so... natural. Accepting the offered hand, he answered easily, "Hey Mer. My name's Machus."

"Machus," he repeated slowly, nodding to himself, as he still held to the other's hand. "It won't be forgotten again." Realizing that he still clung to the other, he grinned and yanked him forward so that he too fell on the ground.

A very not!Machus yelp left the fox's lips as his balance was stolen, free hand reaching out as though to catch himself. It didn't work out exactly as planned though, as he ended up lying in the grass as well. Catching his breath from the sudden startle, Machus snorted. "That wasn't very fair..." he remarked, shifting to loom over the other fox.

Mer grinned up at him, pushing his bangs from his face. "Fairness is relative, Machus. You shouldn't forget that."

Machus grinned, blowing at a bang that fell before his face even knowing it would only return. "Yeah, yeah, I haven't. But hey, it's always good for a totally childish argument against anything, isn't it?"
