Anubis doesn't know what hurts more, his broken ribs, or the fact that he is a failure.
"Go," Dannin wispers, "Kay will have the Clans gathered by now. You know what to do."
Anubis lets out a long sigh, then makes his way out of the camp. He is a long way off before he breaks out of his bonds. Part of him screams to go back, but he knows better than to breaks Dannin's honor. So he continues onto where Kaylyn said she would summon the Clans.
In the Wolfrider camp, Dannin watches him go, falling silent for a while, then turns and enters her captive tent. She grabs a blanket and is soon fast asleep.

The Ancient one had come....
He had come to help the assembled clans and to defeat the servant of Talpa. He knew that he must, but he did not want to...
He stood up and saw a staggering figure on the horizon. He slowly trod forward towards him. He realized that it was one of the ones he was sent to help. He still trod slowly, the man did not seem to have noticed him yet.

Anubis, exausted and defeated, finally falls on his face. It takes a few minutes for him to get to his knees, when he sees an old man watching him.
"What the?" Anubis mutters, then yells so the other can hear, "What Clan do you hail old man?"

I hail no clan, but I have come to help you.
he lifted Anubis up so he was leaning against him, he started to walk even more slowly towards the Wildcat's campground.

Anubis raises an eyebrow at the old man, "Really? You dress like a warrior from the Ancient Clan."
The two are at the edge of the camp just as Kaylyn and Alaric are ready to leave it. Kaylyn sees Anubis and runs towards him.
"Anubis?!" Kaylyn says, "what happened."
Anubis shruggs, "I let my ego get the best of me."
"Again?" the elder Wildcat asks.
The younger sigh, but Kaylyn smiles at the stranger.
"Thank you for bringing my brother to our camp," she says, "he has an ego, but his heart is in the right place."
She takes Anubis by the arm, lacing it over her armored shoulders. Anubis lets go of the stranger, leaning heavily on Kaylyn. He is exausted, injured, and his own spirit is defeated.

Alaric nods to the Ancient, on aquaintance terms with the elder.
"Anubis... what happened?"

Saberstryke is floating in a world he doesn't recognize. It is a world of mutated shapes and discordant rhythms. He looks around, trying to decide whether what he sees is real or a dream. No, he decides, it has to be real, for he isn't wearing his armor, and his hand is gripping the sword that was leaning against his bed. He is in a tunnel, then an open field, then he is floating in darkness.
A voice: You must find the honor of your own cause before you can serve another's.
Saberstryke, in his tent, stirs in his sleep.

Saberstryke turns to Hariel. He says, "When can we meet your elders?"

Anubis shakes his head, looking carefully at Alaric.
"I tried to get Dannin, but I failed," he says, "and now she has given her word of honor to remain.

Saberstryke asks Hariel, "Can you tell me, then, who are your elders? I may recognize some of their names."

Hariel thinks for a moment, "Kaylyn-hime is one of them, sorta. I don't know the names of the others."

Saberstryke turns away from Hariel, looking off in the distance. "I can hope they have some bit of wisdom among them, for if they do not, the world will likely fall under Talpa's control."

"Well, Kaylyn was on her way to the summit, I can find her," Hariel says, "you can tell her just about anything and she'll know something you don't. It's a gift."

Sure enough, once Hariel gets to the other camp, he sees Kaylyn, along with everyone else.
"Uh-oh..." Hariel mutters.

Saberstryke, following Hariel, sees someone he recognizes. Anubis. And, with that recognition comes a memory, buried deep in his mind, something to do with, was it guarding? Saberstryke cannot be sure. Did he and Anubis guard something together, long ago? And, if so, why has it only occured to him now?
"They are together," Saberstryke comments. "Something must have happened."
