EvilWoodWind I noticed something about being the only girl in a guy section. You get croupted with pevertedness. and without trying I can be twice as perveted the guys. stressed i know a girl that made us more perverted than we already were...so nothing to worry about...

You'd think there'd be more than one girl bassoonist, wouldn't you? But no. Still, I liked the setup we had two years ago... One of the guys would occasionally hit on me, but the other was my straight man. He rocked. Such a shame he's so much better than me.

Tarinsa i'm the only girl in the entire base line/low brass cry there is one other brass player, but she plays frenh horn, and sits light years away >.< i heart my trombone! ^^ i'm going to be the ruler over the entire base line/low brass section next year! i'm so exited, and kinda scared, i don't think some of the boys will listen to me....some feel that men are "superior", and i tend to be to submissive...*sighs* but i'm going to try! Yell like crap, constantly, I and never hesitate to piont out that they are wong. it works really.

Miangel My friend is the only girl trombonist, and she's a freshman, too. If I had started tenor last year, I would've been the only girl for a year, but now the tenor section is an even 2-2 split - two girls, two boys. i'm the only girl baritone and i'm a freshman too...the rest are all senior guys and one junior.

You'd think girls would learn to play tubas but NOOOOOOOI have to be the only girl in the whole school that plays in the lower brass. But on the plus side I get to spend the whole band period talking to my best friends......who are guys.

I was just put into the Flugel/Mellophone section of our trumpet section... which brakes away from the trumpets. So I'm with all guys. I really don't notice it a lot. Until I'm the only one laughing at weird jokes. Or when the guys look at me funny... It's fun being with them though. They make me laugh!
And when it's all the trumpets/mellos together we only have 3 girls out of like 17. It's fun though! Some of my best friends are guys... so it works out. But you do have to keep them in line sometimes. Beat them down and tell them that's dirty or whatever. I had to get my friends Cal and Harry back after grabbing my a**... so I grabbed theirs... freaked out my section leader though... *giggle*

I'm one of 3 girls in the drum line this year (out of 10 people), which really isn't bad at all. I love the boys. Sometimes they do pick on us a little, but it's ok because it's all in good fun. Last year there were only 2 girls (and for a while I thought i'd be the only one trying out ) and the year before that there weren't any girls at all. I really enjoy the experience and we're not really treated any differently then the rest of the boys. If I was the only girl, I'd miss my female friends a lot! but that would probably be the only difference.
and on the girl power in the band thing... a friend of mine once said to me "i no what you girls are doing, you're dating all the "powers" in the band so you can take over by controlling them." he was joking of course but still... just no! i told him that us girls could take power on our own, through our own skills and personalities. it's great to see that there are so many female leaders! (not that gender should really matter in the end, but... )

we have one girl tuba in our section.
since we dont seem to actually get any tubas from middle schools, we recruit from trumpets and baritones.
the strange part is that she volunteered. she is about 5 feet at the most, and she blows harder than i did when i switched.
and she can give me piggy backs, she is my favorite freshman
