The 578th does sound familiar I did have to deal with the Foxes quite a bit being a Uniform, you people can give me such a headache LOL, trying to get LAN cable laid out and phone lines as well, I dont know how many trenches I had to dig over there but it was wayyyyyyy to many, then in the end I think Centcom decided that Kalsu should only have like a 256mb internet connection, WTF as such my Sigo kept gettin his a** chewed and I being his IMO kept getting my a** chewed to chew on the Foxes a** in order to get our net up and running so that our SCO could get his email....but yeah I may have met a few, dont really remember many of their names....I did work with a Cpt Hubbard and a Chief whoes name I cannot recall, they both ran our Server room. OH and yeah Iskan, Kalsu, and Muhumadiya are all south of Baghdad, TQ is north though.

Well, I plan on joining the Army right out of highschool. I want to be an Army Ranger. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

I also want to be a RANGER also.

I'm going to college before the military. That way it's quicker to become an officer. But really I'm trying to get to West Point in N.Y.

What's up all? I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I've been in the Army about 6 months now, passed BT and AIT with ease right out of Fort Knox, Kentucky (I'm a 19K...M1 Abrams Tanker) Hooah! I'm currently stationed up in Alaska.

Hopefully I'll be getting to know everyone better here shortly smile

Currently up in the air between USAF and the Army. Hearing a lot about enlisted personnel in the USAF getting sent into the Army as it apparently doesn't have enough people at the given moment [and with the call for more troops as well, yeah... ].

My Army buddy is Infantry, he too drives a Stryker. Which is cool, and he's enjoying the fact that his unit is getting damn close to being sent to 'the sandbox' as he calls it.

Other than that, about five more months before I either have to do my paperwork for enlisting or start working towards my commission.

The Air Force has way more assignments then the Army, so you will see a lot more of the world, plus the assignments are usually to smaller bases with fewer people. 90% of the Army assignments are to large posts with lots of soldiers, which makes it tough at some locations to get stuff you need. The Army, since it has more jobs, has more promotion opportunities then the Air Force, the Air Force has aircraft which are very expensive to run, so they get a huge budget compared to the Army. This is key, because the Air Force spends that huge budget on making the quality of life better for the people in the Air Force. The Army has to spend there budget on gas, bullets and fixing all the stuff getting burned up in Iraq. An Army vet for a long time is telling you, Air Force if you don't like hanging out in the woods/going on convoys/or getting shot at. If you like that kind of stuff, go Rangers, Special Ops, and want to get promoted quickly. One side note, look at the 3,000 plus deaths from the Iraq war, how many were Army and how many Air Force.

I almost went there. If you are in 11th grade or higher, you are probably going to need to scramble. Get an interview with everyone in your district who has a nomination. You'll need to keep your GPA as high as possible (3.2 or better, they wanted last time I checked. In fact, I've got some of the papers right here.) because only 50% of nominees make it in. You need to be the best you can to do it. Know what you want to study, and get to know Army Officers with lines to and up the West Point CoC. Write to the VP (The only guy in the white house that can nominate. His nominations are gold.) and boh of the state's Senators as well as your district representative for the state. Request face-to-face interviews with all of them.

When you interview, wear Class A's if you have them, or the best suit and tie you own. If you do not own a suit, save up about $90 and go to a Men's Warehouse and have one made.

If you cannot get a nomination from them, then the Army has 35 slots for West Point. As does the National Guard.

For more information, PM me and I'll direct you where to look as well as who to write.

Also: HAVE SOMEONE READ OVER EVERY LETTER YOU SEND MULTIPLE TIMES! Spell checker doesn't always catch everything. Your best bet would to be to speak to Guidance Councilors and everyone else (Principal, JROTC Commander, Local recruiters, and Army Officers who have an Up-line to West Point MA). It's a good decision and I'm proud of you for it. Just don't let the dream fly away from you.

LOL... Our company had not a single node center or SEN, so I blame that on other Foxes. I was a SMART-T operator. Our guys in 578th are mostly Sierras. (I wish I were a Sierra cry ...) I think the ones in Kalsu were Romeos.
TQ is north?! That must be why I've never found it. sweatdrop
CPT Hubbard... Damnit, I can't remember who that is. The name sounds very familiar... as if I should be shot for forgetting who that is. Is that the Black dude?
My response is oh-so-delayed. (That's signal for ya.)
Be gentle on Foxes. We have archaic, 40-year-old POSes to deal with. Thank goodness I lucked out and had a SMART-T.

I'd say work towards your commission. I was too civilian to even know there was an officer corps when I joined, so the fact that you are thinking of getting a commission shows that you may be a smart person. (Yaay!) If you decide to join Army, then you may improve the quality of officer corps of the Army by your mere presence. Many officers seem to lack intelligence, to be quite blunt (well, Army officers anyway). Air Force officers seem to actually be smart AND they do something more than salute and scheme ways to make enlisted life a living hell.

No offense to anyone who knows intelligent Army officers.

I'm in the Swedish Army Rangers, Well thats the closest way of translate it. But in Sweden it's called Jägare. But most of our training and other exercises comes originally from the US Rangers and Air Cavalry
