I never really understood that myself - at least on the level of liking gay couples as much as shounen-ai.
But sex? I'm just more keen on the idea of keeping people's sex lives to themselves. D: Plus, most of the time it isn't real love with porn. Bleh.

I have nothing against real person slash, unless we're talking about fanfiction. I can't stand seeing real people (like actors or singers and stuff) being slashed with other real people in a story they probably don't even know about. But, I feel the same way about het in cases like that, so it's really just a privacy issue, or something.
But yeah, I know plenty of gay people, and I have nothing against them being gay or anything like that.

I have nothing against slash about actual characters in a movie/sitcom/fictional work of some kind, since they are still characters and can be differentiated from their actor. They have a different life to their actor. They aren't really real. I constantly think of slashing characters off TV shows and movies too. whee
Actually making stuff about real people (like musicians andt hat)- gay or not- could be considered disrespectful though, since they have their own lives and are capable of being offended by people writing about their sex lives. I'm not really bothered by it, but I can see why people could be. I suppose there is a line that can be reached too, between the light hearted and the serious.
However, I am far from being the one to complain if they want to do it themselves in real life. Real gay guys can be just as sexy in real life. 3nodding

Artie Ficial It's something that's always confused me and I've never really found out the answer. Even in this guild plenty of people say stuff like, "real gay boys? ewww!" I don't really get it. It seems to me that these people are being really hypocritical/homophobic to like yaoi and not slash with real people. I understand that some of it is just personal preference, but being gay, I don't really understand how people can think that way. o__o Can anyone offer some kind of explanation or whatever? I iwsh I could explain it to you, but then this posting has been down for a while...most people see yaoi as what it is...FICTION. I love yaoi, so do my friends, but the majority of them are still closed off to the idea that actuall gay people can have...relationships like in a yaoi story. Like love, happiness, normal struggles and things other couples have. It just another one of those things people cut from reality. And though it's hard to deal with, there will always be someone who don't like the real slash in our world.

I think I prefer the not-real stuff (which INCLUDES things that are not anime, such as Star Wars) because of a 'not-my-business' thing. Y'see, with fictional characters, I don't feel like I'm intruding on anything, or being voyeuristic. It's like... they're not real, so I'm not doing anything wrong. If it were real people, I'd feel intrusive and all that; there's the issue of them not wanting to be seen, also the issue (in the case of two men who are not together but would look good tgether) of the unlikelihood of it being true. That second issue actually keeps me away from most of the fictional stuff, too.
Also I agree with Kurasagi Hitsu.

I like slashing characters from TV shows (Nick/Greg from CSI was my first boylove pairing). There are some pairings I won't touch(House/Wilson, anything incest, random other stuff that just doesn't move me), but it's not like I have aproblem with it.
Real people with actual lives, yeah, I can see a problem with stories like that. I haven't slashed teachers or friends(beyond brief thoughts and that Andrew/Joby thing with the basement, bus, and backstage, but that's a whole other story). It really would feel like an invasion of privacy. I wouldn't be able to look them in the face without turning red for days.
