But they had to keep moving and he searched the room for new places to look. There was a layer of water to cross and he reached to lift Demari from the ground onto Roa’s back so they could cross. Her clothes were so pretty and white that he didn’t want them to get wet or dirty.

“It’s strange that we haven’t seen any ghosts yet after all that talk about increased activity. I thought they’d be all over us!” He stepped on something that let out a sharp crack in the water and Volkei winced. Maybe he shouldn’t have come barefoot to this thing. What if there were needles or glass up ahead?

"Thank you." Demari replied, grateful for Volkei's ability to remain chill and strong. She blushed as he helped her onto Roa's back, embarrassed at needing such a thing but also happy. Who didn't want to ride a tiger? Petting the lusus, she was content as they walked for a little while until she spotted her lusii grouping up ahead. They seemed to be picking something up to look at it and she nudged Roa to get closer.

"What's this?" Demari reached to get a look at the item. Her eyes widened at the message scrawled across it. Combined with the spooky photo from before, her bloodpusher began to beat fast and she felt like the air was becoming thin. Her eyes glanced back up at Volkei with unmistakable fear in them.

"Volkei... I'm scared-" The highblood hated to show weakness like this but she could no longer keep calm. Her swarm circled around her with Glimmermom trying to touch her face and reassure her that everything was okay. But it wasn't! She briefly recalled Glamis mentioning that one of the ghosts had been a serial killer! Just then she felt a sharp stabbing sensation and saw the wallpaper begin to slice off the wall in front of them. Nope! No no no! She was done!

"We need to leave!" Demari cried and started for the stairs. In her distress she failed to step over the damaged parts and found the ground disappearing from under her. As Volkei followed, the floor burst open and they fell into the darkness below. Well, that was one way out of there!

Sarcel had been quiet the entire walk through the hive. Every sound was amplified, save for the chatter of her teammates behind her. No, she heard the footsteps like they were thunderclaps and every creak of the floorboards she traversed threatened to make her jump out of her skin. The talking was more or less like television static.

Thankfully, the objects that the group had deemed relevant to Schrad were small. She found herself fiddling with the switchblade in particular, though she could never quite get the wrist-snap down to click it open flawlessly. The stairs when she came into what was left of the nutrition block were already giving her flashbacks. She gave a look over her shoulder to the others that she had skipped ahead of.

"Schrad was very dangerous in life. I can only assume she'll be the same in death." And with her own presence there, no doubt it would stir something up. She came to look at the children joining them in particular, worrying for a moment about their safety, and then pushing the thought into the back of her mind. Between all the military personnel present, it should be fine. They should be fine. "Keep your wits about you, in case this really does succeed. I'm... admittedly not sure what to expect." She wasn't sure what to say, either, if she happened to see the ghost of her former role model again. Hadn't really even thought about it despite playing this entire moment on repeat since the second that blueblood child handed her that desecrated photograph.

She went to empty the contents of her pockets out within the room, falling silent again.

The entire trip to the north outgrowth, Nahori remained silent. Ghosts weren't really her thing, but then, what was? Nothing scary like this. Nahori enjoyed baking, but baking was the least useful skill to have when trying to summon a dangerous ghost in some sort of hell ritual. She felt in over her head, almost more so than when she'd stepped off the deep end and joined the military.

"What can she do?" Nahori finally asked, pensive. "Ghosts... can they... really hurt us?" Hands clasped together awkwardly, she didn't even wait for a proper response before distracting herself with something else.

"Do you need help, sir? With... setting up the circle, I mean..." she asked Sarcel.
