"I don't know what to name this little guy." She replied easily. "I have trouble naming my familiars, and I started to..." She pondered the words a moment. "...feel guilty about how long it takes me to name someone..." She looked at Aedus as he took his eyepatch off, and she saw the scar. Huh. She wondered how that happened. Maybe she would ask some day. It wasn't important now though. "Do you have a hard time naming familiars too?"

That was true. Most familiars seemed to understand at least their names. He wondered if they actually understood that as their name, or if was just a sound that they responded too because it made their owner's happy. "Understanding someone's feelings is different then understanding verbal communications though." He sat up and looked at Leto. "I mean, we can understand others. If they're crying, they're sad. If they're laughing, they're happy. ...Or a major a*****e." He joked. "Your feathers fall out? Huh. I guess I never really thought about it. I guess I do recall hearing something about that in fallen, and certain familiars." He watched the feather get snatched away by the little kit and laughed. "I'm almost afraid to admit... but I really want to touch your wings."

Nicolae spat sand out as he got up from his faceplant. "PHFFFT! Bleh." And he started brushing the sand out of his feathers, but then he heard someone speaking to him. "Hm?" He looked up at Coco, before looking down and finding his glasses in the sand. Oh yeah, he was fine, no worries. He sighed and put his glasses back on. "Nicolae." Ah, he sort of thought he'd seen her in the halls. She was a student, wasn't she? "I doubt we will know until they've been studied a little more. For all we know, some may be mature, but only the size of our palms. Others may not be mature until they are the size of..." He paused and sighed. "...Well, me." Wouldn't that be scary? A familiar as big as himself? It was bad enough that all his students were taller then he was!

x xArthur had been a bit late getting off the boat as he had been charged as one of the chaperognes that had to make sure all the children were off. Once he had cleared his assigned section, Arthur was free to disembark. He arrived to find many of the freshlings and juniors already gaining some of the familiars as new pets. The creatures vaguely pinged something in the back of Arthur's mind of something he had read once. He crinkled his brow in an attempt to remember better as he slowly approached the enclosure.

x xRoshan had been one of the last freshlings to be ushered out as they had greatly enjoyed coloring. With permission they had been allowed to color a few extra pages when so few had been used. Roshan wasn't normally one to do art, but since they were on vacation (of sorts) they might as well. Now that they were standing before the Torti, Roshan wasn't sure what to make of them. The freshling was entranced by the shimmery crystals adorning the shells of the Torti. Roshan quickly made note of these in the notebook they had been encouraged to take with them.

She couldn't help but giggle a little when the little tortie picked out a junior to investigate. It still seemed really unsure and never quite made it to the person before running back and hiding behind her legs. She smiled and gently patted the creature's head in affirmation.

Kiessi watched the tortie curiously as it hid. They gave a quick nod to the woman and then turned their one eye back toward the land that the other torties were coming from. They lifted a camera and took a quick picture so their siblings could see. They smiled when they realized that they had at least gotten a picture of a tortie before it darted back behind cover.

He let out a breath of relief when he finally found some shade to rest in. He didn't take his eyes from the land, but there were several people in front of him which made it harder to see. He mused and decided to back toward the edge, even if he was hot he might have a better chance there than being so far away.

x xAfter contemplating the Torti a bit, Arthur concluded that they brought to mind a description of a familiar species he had read about. The only thing that made him think not was they were supposed to be long thought gone by the Naga that found ancient writings about them. Still, they might be... Arthur gazed fondly at the creatures as they slowly tucked themselves or way. The young ones seemed rather brash at times, though.

Honesty, naming things was the hardest part of owning a familiar, for Nashira. She could care for them and feed them... She could spend all the time in the world with them (When she wasn't in class)... but naming them was so hard. She set the torti down on the sand again. Would naming it 'Sandy' be too lame?

Vega had to admit, that this trip had been amazing. He had made a great new friend, and he had a lot of new familiars. He smiled at Leto as the fallen talked.

The worst part about having fallen in the sand like he did was there was still sand in places he didn't care for. It would be rude to keep brushing the sand out of his feathers when faced with Coco, but UGH! It was uncomfortable...

leto laughed and went to move a strand of hair to behind his ear. " well I am not saying that you can have a discussion about philosophy with them, or they understand the reason that you are upset but I think they understand a lot more than some people give them credit for. " Leto answered. " mind you this isn't true for all of the familiar species." " mmm yep, they fall out and new ones grow in to replace them. It makes courting gifts so much easier. Of course I guess you could always pluck out a more Important flight feather and that could mean more or something....aaaaa y-y-you wan-nt to t-touch them?" Leto turned a bit bright red at the request. Well wasn't like it would harm anything. "Alright. You can"
