Huh? Vhat are you looking at me for, kid? You don't need my permission to go make disaster buddies! Kuni didn't say that out loud, of course. Instead, he smiled at the hybrid and nodded. Hey, the Bakeneko needed someone to talk to, so they might as well talk to the hybrid! He wanted to encourage normal, calm behavior like making friends as much as possible. It prevented people from getting loud and shouting and trampling each other in a panic. If he could get people to be calm...
Well, maybe he could start with the freshlings. And if that didn't work, well, he remembered what Kirket had said--calming wards on the walls. People who went near the wards would surely feel much calmer, right? That's how they worked, right? Kuni wasn't interested in magic--that was Nai's department. Maybe he was wrong? But hey, maybe he was right. If nothing else, the placebo effect should help...
Kuni was aware then that he had attracted another follower. This one was that crazy new race. Not a Nightmare race, surprisingly--it seemed that most of the new races no one had heard of were from Below, but this one was a fellow Daydream race, another people from Above. A forest race, which automatically made them, to Kuni's mind at least, a little bit of kin. What were they called? Oh yeah, Kumiho. "Hallo," he said to the kid. He offered them a stuffed animal. "Have zis. Ve can't go back to our rooms yet, so ve can't get your toys. Zis is a toy for you in ze meantime. Is zere anysing else I can help you vis?" What had started off as an awkward add-on had become habit to add onto the end of his address.

Unlike his trip into the forest, the one that had culminated in the discovery of the Kumiho, Thian hadn't volunteered for this little adventure. Nightmares that ate other Nightmares? Really? He'd punch every last one of the abominations and the doctors who'd made them, given the chance.
But he wouldn't be. Given the chance, that is. They would say he was too young, which was probably true, but it didn't leave him feeling any less useless. All he could do right now was sit and wait. Wait for the flesh-eaters. Wait for Amory to come back with his drink. Wait. Amory watched her best friend make faces at his fruit snacks and unconsciously scoot closer to Kirket's comfort wards, his purple skirt riding up his thighs to levels she knew he wouldn't appreciate if he realized it was happening. With a long-suffering sigh, she approached the demon, holding out a cup of juice.
"I know you're restless, but you look like an idiot," she said, rewarded for her mockery when he took a moment to right his clothing. She didn't much like comforting him, even though she knew he craved it, so whenever she could get across her wishes without doing so, she considered it a win.
As far as the corrupted Nightmares were concerned, she kind of wanted to punch them too.

Sathe allowed himself to smirk a little at the other bapho’s response, not flinching and resisting the urge to cross his arms in a passive challenge. Still, they seemed like a decent sort, and they weren't talking crazy or stupid, so that was a plus. ”Figured in a situation like this, someone needs to step up and do what needs to be done. I wouldn't really consider myself a nice person, though.”He quirked an eyebrow at the hero comment, following their gaze to a little kumiho, nodding at the observation that they seemed pretty calm. That changed when the kid open their mouth though. Sathe frowned at the kid's poor use of words, but it was better than being panicky, he supposed. Not that he could think of anything to say that wouldn't escalate the problem, though. Plus, getting into a shouting match with a kid wasn't really his thing. Might as well keep his silence and look intimidating. He finally murmured to the other bapho, hoping that the kid's big ears were only for show. ”Well, on the bright side, we don't have to worry about him running around screaming.”

Eilwen kept a hold on the little fennekit she was watching as Vanna made his way over to her. At least he was here, some sort of comforting face amidst all this chaos. She was sure he'd have some sort of plan to work this all out. But seeing him here also reminded her that she had lost her little brother, the tears started against that had just started to dry up.
"I lost Erion. He was inside a mirror house when all the alarms started going off and they wouldn't let me go in after him..." She gave the little 'kit in her arms a gentle squeeze, petting him some more. He was a lot more chatty now that all these other Nightmares and Daydreams were around them now. "Uh, Mushroom's owner, Kunibert, is looking around for me...Which is why I have to stay here. If anything Kuni will be back for Mushroom I'm sure..." Her heart was racing again, mostly because she was say darn embarrassed to admit she'd lost her kid brother during such an important time in front of all these strangers.
He just had to be in here somewhere. Please, let someone be taking care of him in her place. Speaking of little siblings though, Eilwen didn't see Mai around Vanna, had she been taken else where? Or lost in the crowd too? "You didn't get h-hurt in the...mess...did you?" She couldn't just talk about herself after all....

"It still doesn't make what they did right." Hiroshi frowned while rubbing the back of his arm. The whole situation was a bit messed up, regardless of what the Elders were trying to do. A lot of them were very misguided, especially when it came to things they didn't understand, like Tomoe. He sighed a little, thinking. He honestly knew very little of Tomoe, mostly all he did know was what Ai had told him and what he saw in passing. However, he knew what it was like to have the Elders not believe in you (though, in this case, it was because of his mutations), so he could sympathize a lot with Tomoe's situation. "Tomoe has a way of getting out of sticky situations, I'm sure he's fine." He hoped so at least. He could also hope that Ai was with him, keeping them both safe.
When Hiroshi heard Niamh ask for them to stay, he let out a breath, trying to calm himself from looking like he might run. His wings twitched on his back and he slightly nodded. "If you both would like me to stay, I will." He was glad that Yaruka was there, she seemed to be much better at calming the girl down than he was. He had never seen himself as anything but level-headed, but perhaps he was wrong since it was obvious to him (and maybe to others) that he was worrying a little too much."It's nice to meet both of you. Hopefully, all of this will be over soon." He leaned down, giving a smile to Yaruka, and then sat on the opposite side of Niamh.

Fear tactic. Yes, that was true. Even Chunli had been startled by the sudden scare. In a group? With Freshlings? Chunli swallowed and shifted, a pang of loneliness and isolation pervading her entire body. No clan. But no, even if she had a Clan, they would be far from here, in their own safehouse or huddled in their cliffside homes.
"Here's to hoping the power doesn't cut out." Chunli sighed and ran a clawed hand through her hair. Thankfully, the demon - Raven - brought her attention elsewhere.
"Raven? A suiting name. So how long do you think this will last?" Not that milling in a room crowded with crying and panicking Freshlings wasn't a blast, but the novelty was wearing thin.

Absorbed as she was in listening to Kunnibert and then following him around, she hadn't paid much attention to the other Freshling's that had joined them... Which seemed counter productive to what she had just asked the gym teacher, but it made sense! Really!
So when Rohan said hello, the small bakeneko only blinked, processing their words, "Oh... Uhm. Yes. Hello." It was difficult to tell what social rank a hybrid had, but she supposed it was somewhere high ranking. A geist... nyxie and... perhaps more. "Roshan. It's a pleasure. I'm Lawven."
A large eared bakene -- no! That was definitely not a bakeneko. Lawven blinked rapidly, confused at first by her own eyes until, yes, she was certain - multiple tails and large ears. Certainly, she was curious about this Freshling, but she wasn't about to be rude to Roshan.
"Your hair is very long. Pretty." Though one color, unlike her own calico locks.
Geyser Eelborn Kunnibert has amassed a group of children XD
iMoony Lawven is a bit bossy lmao

Yuta looked up at the Dryad before receiving the soft toy. He let out an excited gasp, "How nice! Thank you so much!" When the other went on about needing any help, he pondered for a moment. "Hm... Well... Do you possibly have another one? I wanna give it to my friend! I think she's really sad." He could always give Harley's his, but if he could snag two from this nice person, why not? "I'm Yuta, by the way!" He smiled wide before he felt as if someone was watching him. He turned to see that one of the freshlings was staring at his ears. The twitched slightly as he reached up to touch them. "Is there something in my hair?" He wondered as the freshling, probably a Bakeneko with that tail, began to talk to the other freshling, at least part Geist but he couldn't quiet remember what the other part was. He frowned a bit, thinking he needed to reread the attributes of different nightmares and daydreams.

Yes, good. Kuni watched the Bakeneko speak to the other two children. Okay, so the Bakeneko's name was Lawven, the hybrid's name was Roshan, no idea what the Kumiho's name was. So long as the Bakeneko had ofund someone to talk to, he could move his concentration to someone else--namely, that Kumiho. "If your friend is a freshling und isn't you, I sink so. If zey're older zan zat, zey vill have to vait until every freshling has a toy." Actually, he hadn't been told any rule of that sort, but it sounded logical to him. He'd been told these were for freshlings, which meant that he was going to give them to freshlings--and only freshlings. Frankly, he didn't think they had enough for every freshling in the school. If there were, in fact, leftovers, then he'd hand them back to Annabelle and let her sort them out.
He was doing that thing again, the one where he wasn't being nice. He liked being thought of as nice--but he also didn't like being used. He returned the freshling's smile with an awkward one of his own. Most people didn't smile at him. "Hallo, Yuta," he said. He didn't bother to give his own name, though--the freshling seemed distracted.
Neh. They were making friends. It was time to move on to the next kid. "If any of you sree need anysing else, just talk to Ava, Kirket, Mink, or Annabell up at ze stage." With that, he turned and moved on. Who could he talk to next?
Well, he could take another look around for Erion. He stood up on a chair around the edge of the room. Nope. No Erion. Okay, then, who next?Kuni spotted a likely subject in the form of a pale Naiad working their way through the crowds. He squeezed past people and tapped the child on the shoulder. "Hallo," he said. "I'm giving out toys to all of ze freshlings, since ve can't go back to our dorms yet." He held out a plushie from the box to them. "Is zere anysing I can help you vis--water, food, anysing like zat?"

xRoshan was pleased to know the older student approved of their attempts at social interaction. The bakeneko seemed a bit slow in the up take of introductions, but returned the favor soon enough. Though Roshan wasn't sure if meeting in this sort of situation could really be considered a "pleasure." But the bakeneko Lawven seemed friendly enough despite being momentarily distracted by another freshling who had approached the senior handing out plushies. Lawven even complemented their hair. "Thank you," Roshan said, stroking the strands near their gills. "It grows really fast and I don't like cutting it." They decided it was best to return the compliment and the bakeneko's own hair was worthy of praise. "I like your hair too. It's very colorful."As the newly approached freshling reacted to Lawven's stare, Roshan turned to face them. It was then that they realized they had no clue what this child was. Were they one of the new species that had started joining Below? Roshan found themselves a fan of their tails and the bright purple that marked their ears and hair. Roshan watched as the older student seemed to start to detach themselves from the group of freshlings they had amassed. Was three too many? Roshan turned back to their fellow freshlings and attempted to try to stay friendly appearing by keeping the smile on their face.

Raven yawned lazily and looked around once more, this time noticing the large number of freshlings milling about. They'd be the first to go, undoubtedly. Or perhaps they'd come second, after the figureheads such as Ava were taken out. The demon tried to shake the thoughts from his head, lying to himself that it would be fine. He focused his eyes on the chimera once more, chuckling lightly at her response. "I think that's the equivalent of going to the beach and saying 'I hope it doesn't rain!'," he joked, a hint of bitterness in his words, "or, 'what's the worst that can happen?', 'I've got a bad feeling about this.' or, my favourite, 'that only happens to other people!'."
Raven cocked his head slightly when she commented on his name. It was suiting? "As in I'm the bearer of bad news? Wait, or is that crows..." he pondered, tapping his chin in thought. At her question though, he barely had to think at all. "No more than a night, I'd imagine," he said casually waving a hand through the air, "I'm sure in that time this group of freaks will make a move. They'll either succeed and make everyone scatter and separate, or they'll fail and we'll be let out. Either way's fine with me, should be more interesting than standing around."

Ah, right... Foras's ears were probably a lot more sensitive than his own. Gany momentarily thought of reaching up to cover them, but staying where he was seemed like a better idea... Less movement, less awkward... less uh... intimate. Yeah. "Okay, well... its clearly not." He frowned, inching closer if it were even possible as more people poured into the auditorium.
"Yeah I guess... this is probably the best place to be." Even if it was the most claustrophobic place to be. Ugh... And with the freshlings starting to freak out... well... He accepted the waterbottle, but didn't open it just yet. Too crowded. Too much noise. Too many high emotions. "...True. It would suck if we were separated." If he weren't so distressed he might actually play into that- but with the way things were... well, Foras would just have to settle for him switching the hand-holding for a one-armed hug.
An actual half hug from Ganymede. Totally unprompted.

Oh good, he had indeed guessed right. It would have been somewhat embarrassing if it hadn’t been who he was supposed to be cheering up. Baum did briefly look over at Yuta as they disappeared. Ah well he couldn’t often sit still as a freshling either. He had always been trying to help Kadali or the like. “Yeah, I would be honored to keep you company. It’s not a fun thing to think about it. “He took a seat relatively nearby, but not close enough to cause discomfort. Aaah what could he bring up that would get their minds off the current situation. Speaking about the festival didn’t seem the way to go. Many people where at the festival and the emergency broadcast had interrupted the festivities. “Take any interesting electives recently” oh he was soo bad at starting conversations. He almost wanted to cover his own face with his hands.

Fasik easily noticed the shift in Illya, a note of concern lingering while she spoke. His voice low, he kept his eyes trained on her, "Special forces? We might have to go to those extremes?" What kind of entities were these things on the broadcast that it sent the whole Below into this kind of state? A nightmare was truly a good comparison. But if she had gone through training, maybe she was military? He wasn't sure how he could ask though.
He regretted asking when she seemed embarrassed. "That's a wonderful reason to come out tonight. I would be lying if I said I didn't think about coming to adopt myself" His tail twitched slightly at her tone, concerned for a moment, "I'm sorry if it seemed invasive." Honestly, he didn't think that it was too personal until he had really thought it out. So much for chitchat to lighten the mood. Though he wasn't sure that anything could truly lighten the mood while they sat holed up in the academy.
"No, I was actually a volunteer for the festival. I was working at the health kiosk. I'm a pediatrican at the local office. I didn't expect to be doing more than bandaging knees tonight..." He trailed off on that thought, glancing around for a few moments to gauge the atmosphere. It seemed slightly calmer as everyone settled in from the initial rush, but he couldn't say how long that would last.

Illya looked over at the Naga hybrid quickly. Something in his tone of voice told her that she'd said something wrong. It was the special forces thing--they tended to get people...nervous. Making people nervous was the last thing she wanted to do on an occasion such as this! "Oh, no, that's not what I meant. I mean, the special forces are brought out for anything more delicate than 'look at those people, make them less troublesome.' If the situation is complicated in any way, special forces are brought in." She hesitated, then added, "Sorry about all of that--I'm military, myself. Just the regular army, though, nothing fancy. This isn't the sort of situation I would normally find myself in."
Illya blushed. "My brother, he lives in Cassiel's Watch. He has lots of children. He hasn't said it yet, but I think he keeps wondering why I don't have kids of my own." She sighed. "I'm not sure I'd be any good at it, but this is the time of year that orphanages most need adoptions, so I guess I...thought I'd come out here and...I dunno, do my duty as a person of at least moderate compassion?" She chuckled and shook her head. "I'm really bad at selling myself, as you may have realized."
She stretched her wings slightly and nodded with approval. "Volunteering for first aid was very sweet of you. I think that's a very honorable thing to do. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to--best laid plans of mice and 'mares, I guess." She sighed again and looked around. "Hey, is it getting calmer in here, or is it just me?"
