Something altogether more interesting to Alifax bubbled in a large pot. He shrugged, heading over and asking what exactly was transpiring there.

Okay, he didn't care much about tickets: he'd already established that. But he wouldn't mind a sample of the brew, and if the quickest way to do that was to add something...sure. He pulled a stick of jerky from his pockets and dropped it in, shrugging at the trolls nearby. Honestly? It seemed like it'd taste great to him, but the troll watching the pot wrinkled their nose and handed him a single ticket. Sure, he'd take it.

He left.

Chiara thought she was ready. She had her button from earlier on her ready to cash in again. What a perfect plan. Might as well check the place out tho, just in case she got lucky and found the needle. When the blueblood came up without a needle she shrugged and went to turn in her button cheat. "Show it here!" called the haystack troll. Chiara reached into her pocket to get the button, but came up with only a straw of hay. She stared at it in disbelief as the other troll gave her one measly ticket.

Chiara was feeling spiteful today. She had been helping this potluck thing for a while now. What she really wanted to see were some sick trolls. Puking would suffice. So she chose the worse, most rotten thing she could find and watched it get mixed into the stew. Excellent....

Keionx could not stay away from the haystack, apparently - it was just too much fun to dive in and dig around in it for the elusive needle. She waited, first for the kids to come out and... say, was that not the robed purpleblood from the coffee shop? Had his lusus... She chuckled as he scolded the large cat. How cute!

Once the wigglers were out of the way, she went in. After some searching, she only found hay. "Ah well!" she said, turning to the boy and his lusus, who were both now covered in hay. "Needst thou help?" she asked jovially. She could assist, twas what a hero was meant to do, after all!

Chiara had already proven herself in her mooncake making. Now it was time to play! This batch she added some fungus she had found earlier, and a little bit of dirt, just to see.... If anyone would notice. Once finished she took it up to the booth keeper for judgement. As expected it was an undesirable cake, but apparently the troll did not notice the dirt... good to know.

Keionx watched the boy attempt to cook mooncakes... attempt, meaning that he did far better than her and even got a prize!

This would not do.

"I bet that I can do better than that!" she challenged, walking into the mooncake stand, "Provide the ingredients!" she proclaimed, brandishing a nonthreatening kitchen utiensil, "I shalt show thee proper cooking!"

She seemed to have forgotten the last time she had tried to cook competitively...

She stared at the result, not very happy with it... and then ate it. "I'll have to train harder." she declared.

Ah yes, back to the communal pot, where goodness stewed. Keionx sniffed deeply, enjoying the scents of the...

Wait. What was that?

Floating in the boiling water, amidst the recent, not-yet-fully-cooked additions, was something absolutely disgusting. Who, in the name of the moons, had put that in the pot?!

Keionx made a face and, finding a slotted spoon, fished out the offending substance and threw it away. To compensate, she found the biggest, best, most amazingly meaty-looking busthind-sourced produce she could find, prepared it, and stuck it in. There. All was well.

She looked around, trying to see if she could find the nefarious evildoing troll that had put it in... no luck. She frowned... she would simply have to keep an eye on the community pot, in case they struck again...

Keionx frowned at the exchange rates - wow, totatoes were not a good thing to bring, were they? She proceeded to trade them in for the real winners - tarnips. She was sure that tarnips would stay good, yep.

Keionx knew nothing about stalks, or the stalk market, or anything like that... but she could make a good guess! She would bring the best produce to the swamp, she would indeed, and nobody would be able to stop her...

Not the stalk market, not anyone!

Sephos squinted at the exchange rates and decided that he didn't actually care that much about them. What he did care about, however, was one particular exchange - "One of each, for tasty preserves!"

"Yeah, I'll take that." he said, shoving a punkin, a tarnip, and a totato forward and receiving his jar in exchange. He nearly shook his head at the orangeblooded teenager turning in all her totatos - didn't she know that these things were crazy and fluctuated like hell? Whatever. He had his preserves. He didn't care about her foolish investments.

Sephos returned to his real place-of-interest, the food pot. It was interesting to see the variety of stuff and spices that had gone into it so far. He was surprised it was turning out beautifully and, wierdly, he felt the need to make it even better.

He took out one of the fresh tarnips and cut it up fine, throwing it and its greens into the mixture... His mouth watered at the very thought of eating this when all was done. Despite some attempts to ruin it - he supposed that was expected or something - it was turning out amazing and he just... He wanted to eat it now.

"Hey kid." the troll watching the cauldron nodded, "Tell you what, you add a choice ingredient like that next time you're here, I'll give you a special present. Got it?"

A what, now? Sephos stared at him. "'kay." he commented, walking away abruptly. What did he care about stupid presents?

Maku watched as his charge dived into the haystack again, humming as the treebeast remembered times long past...

Sephos found nothing, and he didn't care. He stuffed as much hay as possible into his overalls and almost smirked. There! Lets see if anybody could stuff hay into him this time!

... but then it started to itch and, annoyed, he tossed it out of his clothing. That had been a terrible idea.

Oh well at least he got This

Sephos approached the mooncake booth with intense determination - there was no point to pretending that he didn't care about this. He did. After the other boy had offered him a mooncake, and after thinking about how his lusus was acting, Sephos had to try it again.

This time, though, he really focused, very hard. He had brought his own fruit and added it to the batter, he made the crust as perfect as possible, stamping it with just the right amount of pressure, as the troll lady - Fermer or whatever - told him to. And he cooked it for exactly the right length of time, at the right heat.

When he took them out of the oven, they were perfection incarnate. He smiled despite himself, pleased, as he offered one to his lusus.

Maku accepted it in his massive tree hands. He didn't need to eat - he didn't even really taste - but he made a show of it. He rumbled happily... or was that happiness mixed with a little sadness? Sephos found that he couldn't tell. Maku was, so often, not very emotional at all. He was mild and pleasant and occasionally naggy, but never excited, never so happy, never so sad... Seeing the treebeast like this was just plain weird.

"Thank you..." Maku rumbled, bits of filling staining his roots as he engulfed it for eating. He wrapped a massive woody hand around Sephos in a gentle hug. "Thank you my little sproutling. I love you. I love you so much."

The treebeast remembered another mooncake, another festival, centuries ago when he was a new lusus. He remembered little hands handing him a mooncake and bright eyes looking up at him with adoration. He remembered sitting in the grass of the plains with a little one, looking up at the stars and playing together beneath them. That little one was long gone, they never made it to the stars. They became a part of the forest. The next little one hadn't wanted to go to festivals or anything of the sort. Only the garden of the stars had called them away from the forest, once their role in carrying on Maku's new life had been done.

Maku was glad that he had convinced Sephos to go.

Sephos blinked, surprised at the affection, and leaned into Maku's hand. He had something in his eye... And no one would ever be able to prove otherwise.

Well the first batch of mooncakes had been forsaken for chasing after her scalded father. Once CD was calm enough, Treide returned and worked on a new batch. The filling was certainly an improvement, but her eagerness was showing in how hard she had pressed the design in. it looked a little mushed now, not at all the cute design it had been. This time, she waited until they were perfectly golden brown and took them from the oven. And this time, instead of grabbing one from the hot tray, Treide waited until they cooled significantly and picked one up, splitting it in half and offering part to her father.

CD was surprised at how decent they turned out, especially after that whole rotten tarnip in the pot incident. At the very least, it was delicious and he was proud his daughter had done well. The troll manning the station boxed the rest for her, and she gleefully carried them away!

Treide dropped one of the toetatoes into the pot and stepped back. It didn't seem too different and it didn't seem like it would explode. CD was overreacting! From the sidelines, huddled behind a bale of hay, the coyote sighed and slunk towards his charge. At what point did this girl get so, so, so crazy and adventerous?! It was going to give him a heartattack, jeesh. Especially with the flinging of produce everywhere. Did she think this was some light hearted game? Huffing, he nudged her from the pot. At least this one wasn't rotten... Perhaps not the best thing to add, but not rotten.
