Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí smirked slightly as he noticed how graceful Clara's movements were, almost entrancing, really. "Everyone has secrets. Sometimes they're in plain sight and we never notice," he said softly. He twitched his fingers as a quartet of glasses seemingly flew in a tumbling fashion from the nearby cabinet before sliding to a stop a few inches in front of her on the counter. Clara watched as the glasses flew from a nearby cabinet. "Goodness that must come in handy when you don't want to actually get up to get something." She chuckled softly as she pulled out a pan. She dumped the meat she had pulled out earlier into it and turned on the burner to start browning it. "I'm afraid I'm not very good at keeping up conversation."

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí shrugged slightly. "That particular trick has limits, just like anything else. I can say that I have some more... startling talents as well, some that can be useful while camping," he said softly with a chuckle. "That's okay. I'm not that skilled at socializing myself. Hell... I was born fifteen years before the Haitōrei Edict," he said wryly, his eyes half closing. He grimaced slightly as he twisted the blade in his hand.

"Well...perhaps you'll be able to show me sometime," Clara said without looking at him. She stirred the meat as it slowly began to brown. Her world had been changed so drastically today; she had learned so many things about her family and the world that was really out there. And yet she felt almost normal, standing here cooking and speaking with Jianlei.

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí stepped closer to Clara, rubbing her shoulders gently, faint wisps of pale sea green light seeping from his fingers into the air. "I get the sense that you don't get often to relax and just have time to yourself. I'm the kind to listen most of the time, rather than act," he said softly with a chuckle.

Clara sighed, eyes closing as Jianlei rubbed her shoulders gently. The tension that was there slowly began to fade away. "You would be correct in that assumption. I am always working...always helping someone else." She sighed again as she shook head. "It's wreaked havoc on any relationships I've had. And now...it will only get worse."

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí snorted. "Perhaps in the past it has, but now, you have only one person to help... for now. Yourself," he said softly with a chuckle, tilting his head.

Clara turned around to face Jianlei. Her head tilted to the side as she looked up at him with a smile. "Help myself, how? I'm a target with a big red arrow on back. I don't have the strength or the skill to defend myself against others like yourself and Vlad."

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí cocked an eyebrow. "Train to protect yourself. Most vampiric myths are correct that piercing the heart subdues vampires... or kills them. Some say silver is deadly to them, but I'm not certain of that. Decapitation will kill pretty much anything, and if it gets up afterward... run like hell," he said softly. "As for using knives, I can train you with that, having quite a lot of experience with knives... since.... only two of those... eight got away that night," he said softly, pausing as he wasn't sure if she wanted to know precisely what had happened that night when he'd 'died'. He did know piercing his heart only slowed him and he'd never been decapitated.

"Well it's a good thing that I have you here to help me then," Clara said as she absentmindedly reached up and pushed some hair out of his face. She frowned slightly at his tongue. She heard that pain in his voice and knew that somehow he was referring to the night he had become like he was. "What happened Jianlei? You can...talk to me about anything."

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí exhaled softly, his eyes closing at her touch as he relaxed slightly. "One of the local shogun's advisors came that night with seven guards... he claimed to have orders from the shogun for all local blacksmiths to start on making swords for the shogun's soldiers. I had a bad feeling... and darted out of the shop without being noticed, taking one of our swords with me. I found out that the advisor... and two of the samurai he'd traveled with... had been murdered by their own allies. By the time I'd gotten back, they'd taken most of the smaller blades and most of the larger blades. I tried to keep them... back... from harming my family when I heard my father refuse the order... for which the punishment... was death. I lost a sister... a mother... my father killed by his own blades.... I took down five of them... knowing the weaknesses in their armor... the sixth wounded me as he fell... and the 'advisor'.... he laughed... and left me to bleed to death," he said softly, as he'd never told anyone, not even Vlad, about that night, though he suspected Dracula already knew about it, if not the details.

Clara listened quietly to Jianlei as he explained what had happened to him. She hadn't expected him to tell her, but the fact that he did warmed her heart. Without hesitating she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. "I'm glad...that he found you," she said softly. "Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the chance to get to know you."

Jianlei Tsukino Jiànleí grimaced slightly as he was about to turn away when he was startled by her tight hug. "I was nearly dead when he did find me... they set the house and forge to burn... with everyone inside," he said with his voice barely above a whisper. He didn't miss that she'd been cooking the entire time he'd spoken.

"I'm sorry. That was a cruel thing. People are hurtful, cruel." Clara rubbed his back gently. "I did not mean to bring up such a terrible memory for you." Finally she pulled back and looked up at him.
