The Bear had turned to Rota, its eyes back to normal, rose up on its hind legs, and tried to claw him by bringing its claws upward from its hips. Rota saw it coming from a mile away. He spun clockwise, his cape billowing with the motion, as he back-stepped the attack. then was Rota's time to counter. He took two quick steps forward as he brought his blade just below his left earlobe, and swung it horizontally to his right side, slashing the bear in horizontally in the middle of the 'X'. Yet another roar escaped the Bear, but this one had less energy. The foam at its moth was a much darker pink than before, and its breathing had become exceedingly labored. One more really good hit, and I can probably end this. The combination of the poisons running through its veins and the sheer force behind Rota's strikes had finally added up. It was time to end this beast's suffering once and for all.

Rota got in closer, and stopped in surprise. he saw a new look in the Bear's eyes. It was almost pleading to him as it looked to the sword. It wanted him to end it. Rota nodded as it swung at him for show, being as easy to dodge as ever as he ducked under the bear hug it tried to put him in, and he stabbed the Bear clean through the bullseye he had made for himself. "You are free now." Once he felt the breath of the Bear cease, he pushed the bear off of his blade, and wiped it clean. he petted the bear in remorse for it, and then stood in front of it, blade drawn in the off chance that such a worthy foe should stand back up.

Rota saw the Bear shatter, and breathed a sigh of relief. See? i didn't even get hit once. You worry too much.

The player had to breathe for a second. then laugh. He had to hand it to his psychoses, it had a point. he had been so afraid of what COULD happen that he forgot to live in the present. He would NOT make that mistake again.

Rota shouldered his blade and went back to the village, content with the hunting he had done that day. His psychoses needed to learn some courage. Still, he did consider himself lucky that that bear had wanted to die so badly. He knew from second hand accounts from the villagers that they were capable of so much more than what that bear demonstrated. Either way, Rota had gotten the answer he was looking for. He WAS a warrior, even without Alyx.

It was time to mine once more. rota wanted to make the best gear he could for himself and Alyx, and that meant practice. He would not tolerate a slipshod product going into the hands of the gloomking. Rota removed his cloak and brandished his pickaxe as he felt along the walls for the hum of the earth. He grabbed the Carved orb and squeezed it. He heard a sound far off, but that was in the woods. The orb that his mine guided him to would not aid him here. Instead, he felt the walls of the mine as he had done before and thought he felt something. It would mean a new branch, 6 ft in from the entrance heading east whereas the main path stretched north and the first branch was west 12 ft. in. He smiled and welcomed the new challenge as his pick slammed down on the rock, signaling that the latest session had begun.

Immediately Rota's mine was giving him gifts. This was an exceptional sign, and he couldn't be happier with the path he had chosen. He placed the valuables aside as he continued to work at the stone that kept the valuables of the mountain from him. He remembered a time when the mine held its secrets from him with a savage grip, but now it was like a kindred spirit, wanting to see the full potential of all locked within.

Coal. There was a resource he was running critically out of. most of his buffer had been used figuring out Ingot Crafting and the nuances therein, so he needed an even bigger buffer this time to allow him to not only make more ingots, but to be able to use more ingots to smith weapons and armor. Somewhere over 30 should do the trick.

A Mother Lode. It had been a little bit since Rota had seen one of those. Not too terribly long, mind, but long enough. his eyes gleamed as he set aside the usable goods and focused once more on the swinging of his pick. It was going to be a long day to get what he needed, let alone he had to get even more iron on top of the coal requirement. it was now that Rota recalled a mining quest he had heard from one of the villagers. might as well get it out of the way, quartz was here in spades and he had no use for it anyways.

This was more than a mother lode. It was a mother VEIN. Rota couldn't believe his luck as more and more materials piled up in his little treasure trove. this was going way faster than usual, but to be fair he HAD gotten significantly better at mining. he knew the hum of the earth now, and that was his divining rod to all manner of earthen secrets. The only secret he didn't know so far is the one behind the orb. however, he had no idea where it would lead him. if he was going to attempt it, he would want Alyx there.

As soon as the vein was there, it ended. Oh well, Rota was able to continue to find coal so it all balanced out. He just needed to maintain vigilant. he was making good time so far. He kept his pickaxe swinging as he pondered the nature of the orb, and why his mine and the figure both wanted him to have it so bad. What was the purpose of it, and what could he do in the long run? What was behind the mournful cry of the orb?

As he found more coal, Rota continued to contemplate. Rota had faith that the mine would not send him towards direct danger. However the figure was a mystery wreathed in an enigma. Rota knew no one who knew the true intentions of the figure, save for maybe Alyx if he ever got the chance to ask. It was possible that whatever the orb was calling out to was dangerous, which is why Rota wanted Alyx there. but it also could be something of great purpose and answers, which is also why Rota wanted Alyx there.

More Iron. Good. I have some, but if I'm going to be a smith worth his salt I'll need more of that too. and any other metal I can get my hands on. he swung his pick like a machine as he tunneled deeper into the mountain. He now knew all the secrets his mine had to offer him, but he wanted it all. the only thing he could sacrifice was stone. If he found any other travelers, he would willingly over trade stone for minerals of other natures. maybe five or ten per piece, depending on rarity.

Yet another mother lode. With Rota's increased skill, these were becoming a more frequent occurrence, which he was completely fine with. Even if he didn't immediately need quartz, he was still happy to have a surplus of the things he didn't need for when he needed them in the future. his mine was generous and giving. A true selfless friend in this unforgiving landscape. Rota contemplated what to do about his sword skill. on the one hand, he needed to fight more difficult enemies like the Bear, but part of him anted to take on things that were eve more powerful than that, like the Gloomqueen.

And then all such veins dried up. Stone was all Rota could find. It didn't bother him any. He was blessed that the vein lasted as long as it did. Rota pressed on, knowing that his Mine no longer would let him down. All he had to do was persevere, and it would provide. that was the bond between artisan and supplier. neither could truly reach their highest potential without the other.

Just as quickly as a vein dried up, a Mother lode appeared in its place. it was uncanny how it happened, but it made Rota happy to see his mine in such good humor with him. It was now that Rota considered what happened once he progressed to the next floor, assuming the legends were true. Sure, he could return, but that meant that he was downgrading from whatever was THERE. It was unlikely that he would return to his mine the same way once he advanced. part of him hurt at that notion. he would miss the Gloomwood. Surely he could set up a shop here. A shop for who? face it, no other travelers have passed through the village save you and Alyx. stop deluding yourself and look out for your own best interests first.

Rota was so distracted that he barely noticed he only got stone. He thought about his mine as his pickaxe slowed down. He couldn't just let it gather moss, going unused. It had purpose, meaning. He couldn't just let it go. Rota shook his head. he was already thinking about it as if he had already advanced. There was no guarantee of that just yet. So in the meantime, he had to continue mining for now. Alyx depended on him...to an extent.
