Leona lightly rolled her eyes as Nick tried to insist he was sober, only to mix up the words and further prove her point. As they tottered down the hall, Leona did her best to hold Nick steady. "Remind me to ask thee about these songs of which you sing." Leona chuckled. Nick wasn't half bad, and seemed to enjoy recalling the songs, even if they made no sense to anyone else.
She thought he'd been doing better enough to lie down on the bed himself, but jumped to catch him when he suddenly flopped. At least he'd flopped on a bed rather than the floor, and so the impact was soft. Nevertheless, he thanked her and thoughtlessly continued to get undressed. Not that Leona really cared. She'd seen more than enough men in the buff to desensitize any small shred of modesty that she might have had at some point in her life. However, she had to giggle a bit as Nick fell asleep in the middle of trying to pull his pants off. With another shake of her head, Leona pulled the covers over him and found a nightgown for herself to change into before slipping into bed herself while Isolde cuddled up with the fidgeting Viktoria.

Waking up the next morning was not very pleasant for the author. His head pounded and his mouth was dry. He hadn't even finished undressing, on top of that. "Oi vey... fünf minuten..." Nick groaned, rolling over in bed and pulling the pillow over his face. Unfortunately, his coil was still buzzing and ringing from both missed calls and an incoming call. He blindly fumbled at the device until it stopped ringing, hanging up on the incoming call from Mallory.
Nikolaus wasn't looking forward to seeing the messages he got, or hearing what Mallory had to say. He must have messed up last night, though his memories were rather fuzzy on how he could have. It was going to take more than five minutes for him to get up out of bed.

Leona had long since been awake thanks to Nick's device vibrating incessantly. Even the author seemed annoyed by it, mumbling about needing five more minutes. He was lucky in that he was tired enough to try and go back to sleep. Leona on the other hand wasn't so lucky. "Why doth thine wrist accessory maketh so much noise?" Leona asked, not entirely expecting Nick to answer as she got out of bed and dressed herself, donning her armor and tying back her hair into it's usual tight braided bun. "Methinks the device doth protest too much." Isolde chuckled, earning a light laugh from Leona. "Here here." She nodded admiringly before going over to Nick and shaking him. "Come now Nicolaus. You must rise, for the day is nigh, and you are but half dressed in day clothes yet." She insisted, politely pointing out that he was a mess. She also refused to let him sleep if she couldn't due to his device.

Try as he might, Nick was unable to fall back asleep, leaving him to lay in his bed with a groan muffled into his pillow. Unfortunately, the ringing of his coil had stirred his room mate from her own rest. It took a moment, but he finally gathered up enough energy to grab his coil and stop it's incessant sounds. "Es tut mir Leid, fraulein! Augh." he apologized, squinting at his device to see all the messages from Mallory that he had missed. There were. So many. He groaned, then slowly moved to sit up to better read through what was going on. "Oi vey... Vhat is it zis time?"
He ignored the voicemails, going right for the text messages. And by the all caps text, he immediately realized that something had gone wrong. He raised a hand to his aching head, grumbling unintelligibly in his native tongue. Not only was there angry text, but many pictures loading in his messages from Mallory. Pictures of him at the ball with Leona. Some of them with a hard to explain view. "Not agaaaaaain! Gott I am so stupid!" he bemoaned. Viktoria climbed into Nick's lap to help soothe his distress, rubbing her face against his arm and earning a gentle pat. "Lady Leona, I am terribly sorry... It seems that photos of us at the ball have spread like a vildfire. Und it doesn't look very gut..." Nikolaus sighed, apologizing to his companion.

Leona waited patiently for a translation as Nick spoke in his native tongue. Something about the device was upsetting him, but she couldn't tell what. Perhaps he was as annoyed with it's noises as she was? "A few hours before midday, by the look of it." Leona assessed to answer his question of time, not realizing that hadn't been what he was asking. It was difficult to understand him sometimes with his thick accent, and his slurr didn't help. He continued to fiddle with his device, looking more upset the longer he went on. Though, it wasn't beeping quite as furiously as before, so Leona supposed she could rule out the commotion of it all being the sole reason the device irked him.
Isolde attempted to comfort Nick as he bemoaned his self-proclaimed stupidity. "Many men are weak to drink Nicolaus, we do not fault you for it, especially when it seems we failed in our task to prevent such a thing." Still, it had happened so fast, and Leona still wasn't sure how Nick had gotten enough drinks in him to start acting in such a manner. After all, he hadn't left his seat, and only had one glass. She had only been distracted for a minute by Temperance, and surely Nick had more self-restraint..... Right? Well, there was no use in lamenting the past.
It seemed Nick's behavior and hangover weren't the only problems though, since the author revealed the pictures that had been taken of himself and Leona when she was trying to stop him from taking off his clothes and dragging him out of the ball. From these particular angles and the headlines twisting the story to suggest something less than respectable, it seemed gossip was spreading about Nick and his new "mystery woman" and some "hot public love affair". Leona snatched the coil from Nick and began reading over some of the articles being published as Nick bumbled his apologies. Wildfire indeed. There were dozens of articles from different blogs, celebrity gossip magazines, and tabloids having some sort of photo and comment to say on the matter. The more Leona saw, the redder her face became. "But.... None of this is true! I never--!" But the truth didn't matter in this day and age. People were no longer transfixed by the idea of honor and chivalry. It was all about who could come up with the most shocking story, even if it was nothing but a pack of assumptions and lies.
And it was all over the internet. Throwing the coil back at Nick angrily, Leona stormed off into the bathroom and locked herself in it, sinking to the floor and covering her face in shame. What would her knights say? Her reputation was now besmirched with lies and slander. How could she possibly show her face in public now? No one was going to follow a captain into battle who had a questionable lifestyle at best. This scandal would ruin her, and it wasn't fair... How could people do such a thing so carelessly? And she was powerless against it. It was going to take her some time to recover. "M-my lady...!" Isolde was rather alarmed by Leona's sudden retreat, as the door was slammed in her face. On the one hand, she could sense Leona's concerns and knew that they weren't entirely applicable. The war was over, her knights were no longer around, no one knew who she was, not really.
On the other hand, people might recognize her now as Nick's mystery woman, which honestly was just as bad and embarrassing for her. Isolde turned to Nick, clearly not happy. She was trying not to blame him, as she had said before, but with Leona feeling this way, it was more difficult given the new situation. "I suggest that you address these rumors and the people sending them to you. Now." She demanded. In the meantime, she would go get some food and attempt to persuade Leona to at least open the door so that she could deliver it to her, knowing the knight would not want to go out in public to the cafeterria right now.

"Ah, thank you, fraulein." Nick briefly thanked the captain as she mistook what he had said as asking for time. He was much too kind - and groggy - to correct her, and it didn't seem worth pointing out. Especially not when he had to figure out what Mallory was blowing his coil up about this time.
And it wasn't pleasant.
Nick felt his stomach churn as he saw the headlines and photos that were everywhere, all about his behavior at the ball. While he appreciated Isolde's attempt at comforting him about his mistake, he shook his head, unable to accept it. Causing himself to be in such headlines was one thing, but dragging Lady Leona into it? It was unforgivable. "It doesn't make me any less ashamed..." he mumbled, rubbing a hand over his face.
Leona's reaction was... well, quite fair, all things considered. She didn't deserve to have her image besmirched by such salacious headlines and articles. While they were quite lucky that her name was no where to be found, the knight was still understandably flustered and upset at all the things she saw when she snatched his coil away. His apologies could never be enough, and she soon threw the coil back at nick angrily before disappearing into the bathroom. Nick winced and moved to grab the coil from the bed, where it had come to rest after bouncing off of his shoulder. He didn't need Isolde to tell him he needed to do address this matter.
Nick wanted to try to help coax Leona out of the bathroom, but he knew it would do no good. Even if he really would prefer to clean himself up before doing what he was about to do. He ran his fingers back through his hair, straightening out his shirt the best he could as he got up to pace to the far side of the room. Viktoria was hot on his heels, following along and rubbing against his legs in a catlike manner. While he was mulling over how to approach the situation, his coil went off again. Thankfully, this time it was just a text of concern from someone. Tamara? OH! That's right! They exchanged numbers since Leona didn't have a device of her own. At least he had the foggiest idea of that. It wouldn't hurt to respond to this text real quick before getting to that vlog. Text to Tamara: Hello, Tamara. I apologize for the things you must have seen, and how I had presented myself back at the Gala. Ms. Cardonell is very unhappy, and rightfully so. That there was nothing more than that, and that the photos were taken in such a shameful way, meant to make people think otherwise. To finish it off, he told them to leave the fraulein out of this - that they could say what they want about him, but to not put any kind of light on her. He ended the recording and posted it online. It wasn't a guaranteed fix - but if his followers were loyal enough, they would spread the awareness and things should slowly calm down.
For now, though, he had a dreaded call to make to Mallory.

Reese knelt down to level with the Snivy, who turned to face him fully. The young man just stared and the starter felt a few beads of sweat beginning to pool on the side of his head. He wasn’t exactly sure what to expect or what was going o, and found himself even more concerned as the young ruffian pointed a finger in his direction. He held it in place for a few seconds before roughly poking the pokemon repeatedly in the head.
"Damn, you’ve got a big head," were the first words out of his mouth in greeting his new starter. Not ‘hello’, not ‘nice to meet you’, not even ‘hey I’m your new trainer’. Just a comment on the size of his head. The Snivy’s gaze was blank as he tried to comprehend this powerful observation before it narrowed in annoyance. Wow really?
He didn’t miss the giggles from behind from Ginger and fired a sharp glare in her direction. That didn’t stop her, nor did it halt the other extra poke he was given. The Snivy huffed and whirled around, slapping a leaf-paw appendage at the hand to knock him away. Even if this was his new trainer, he knew he didn’t have to accept this… this abuse!
Okay that was a little much, but it wasn’t a stretch to say that the starter was annoyed and it showed in his glaring. Reese didn’t take to kindly to the smacking away, light gaze narrowed and staring down at the grass type menacingly.
Or it was until he cracked a smile. "What? You don’t think so?" He chuckled again, reaching out and giving the Snivy another head poke which wasn’t swatted away but wasn’t met with any approval. "Better have a lot of brains for a head so big." With that Reese rose back up to his full height, shoving his hands in his jacket pocket as he eyed the new pokemon.
"I think… you’re gonna work just fine," Reese nodded and then turned beginning to continue down the road towards their next destination. Snivy lingered in place in confusion, gaze only shifting to look at Ginger and Colt, the Gengar grinning and giggling before slipping into the ground to shadow her trainers shadow, Colt just muffling another yawn before following after. What was this mess he’d been inducted into?

It was mostly silence for the rest of the travel, something that the Snivy wasn’t sure if he appreciated or not. He kept hearing to off snickers of the shadows under their feet as they moved between towns from the Gengar and the Whimsicott had just taken to floating through the air, more alert since his nap had been disturbed. He wasn’t really sure if he should try to talk to (who he assumed) were his new teammates or not. He wasn’t even sure if he wanted to with the greeting he’d received.
Either way, he was at least enjoying being out and about. It was a change of scenery that was pleasantly welcomed and he took it in while shooting the occasional glance to the back of his trainer. It was really too early to get a read on him, but he couldn't help but wonder what was up. 'He'd work'? What kind of greeting was that anyways? Like talking aobut a tool or something; the Snivy couldn't help but unconsciously frown at that. He was no tool that was for sure.

Leona wasn't usually one to run and hide when things got bad, but this.... This was a battle she didn't know how to fight or deal with. She just needed some space and time to figure things out, and the bathroom was the closest place to do that in, unfortunately. Cramped and small, it helped Leona feel less overwhelmed with something that felt so huge.
Isolde watched Nick from the other side of the bathroom door, observing, perhaps a bit of silent judging. Thankfully she knew Leona's fears were somewhat misplaced in that she didn't have to worry about her fellow knights seeing this scandal, but that didn't change the fact that she was now involved in a scandal and there were people now who would solely recognize her for that, which is not something Leona would want regardless.
Once Nick had filmed his vlog, Isolde informed Leona of what he had done, and after a few moments, she emerged once again, resigned and holding her head high, which was impressive considering just a moment ago the woman was in fetal position in the bathroom. Not that you would have otherwise known. She looked directly at Nick with a reproachful gaze. "I'm going to the caf.... Cafi.... The place where dining is. Then, we will have words." She insisted through grit teeth, smoothing her hair back with a huff. It sounded like it was taking her a great deal of effort to say anything at all, but after getting her message across, she excused herself from the room so that Nick could converse with Mallory while she got food in her stomach.
Food and a menial task would help her calm down a bit more, but.... Isolde watched as Leona grabbed a tray from the pile and slammed it on the counter, turning a few heads (more than the ones already staring by her full armor). She was trying to hard to maintain a facade of calm, so hard that her eye was twitching. "M'lady, may I...?" Isolde placed a paw over Leona's white knuckles. Leona looked down, taking a deep breath and then sighing. "My apologies, Isolde.... It does not become my rank to act out in such a manner for something so trivial.... But..." But reputation was everything to her. She had worked far too hard for far too long to get her title to see it besmirched like this over a scandal that wasn't even true. The worst part was she was furious with Nick when this wasn't entirely his fault. He had warned her, asked for her help, and she had failed. Plus, that aside, Nick wasn't the one who wrote those articles. He did his best to clarify things now, and yet...
Well.... That was where the breakfast came in. Isolde silently let Leona process before nodding and stepping away to let her continue going about her breakfast calmly. "You are understandably upset, m'lady... But thine emotions are a font. They should not be blocked, nor allowed to run rampant." Isolde insisted. Leona knew she was right, but it was easier said than done.
Kenjiro panted and wheezed, running was a young man's game, and he was no longer a young man, nor was he in any shape to sprint like he had. "I... I... think... we... lost... him..." Kenjiro's body shook from overexertion. Just then he felt a tug on his collar. He raised his head to see a fountain cascading water in a way that was appealing to the eyes. He reached up to give his companion the physical praise he was accustomed as he dragged his feet towards the newfound water-source.
He reached into is coat pocket and summoned forth the new addition to his team. "Drink. We may not have another chance." His throat scratched out, before he buckled to his knees."Osh?" The otter chirped out in utter bemusement. Without paying the otter any more mind, Kenjro turned his attention back to the fountain. He then laid over the side and began greedily lapping the water through his fingers. Masura had already followed suit, jumping into the fountain drinking enough to quench his thirst. Rin, just stood there, watching the duo like they were a pair of wild pokemon.
Just then, a soft metallic hiss announced itself. Kenjiro lifted his head, water dripping from his face, to see a young trainer drinking from a nearby water fountain. "Hey kid, c'mere." Kenjiro coughed out, beckoning the kid to come closer. The kid's body shook with uneasy as he began to mutter out. "I'm not s-s-supposed to talk to strangers." Kenjiro put his hand to his chin for a moment. "Well my name is Mr. Hashimoto, and you are?" The kid hesitated. "Jeremy, but-" Kenjiro interrupted with a half-smile. "Well then Jeremy, we aren't strangers any more, are we?"

Reese’s mind was on other matters though. Along the way he’d whipped out his communicator and was casually browsing the in-built map for a clue on their next destination. They were heading through Accumula Town at this point and he had no intention of stopping there. There was nothing in towns and the quick research he’d done proved that; sure, there was something called the Battle Club that briefly peaked his interest but one walk past and he was met with a “closed for renovation” sign, which all but uprooted any interest he might’ve had in the place. The sooner they were through, the better.
There wasn’t even a store; at least one that wasn’t in a pokemon center. The selection there was, by nature, weak and not worth his focus. No, it was for the better to simply keep moving along the route and to Striaton City. There he’d find some shops and be able to give himself a better kick starter package than what the professor had so ‘kindly’ given him, that was for sure.
He shoved the pokedex away in his pocket, huffing at the trek ahead. It was a shame that there wasn’t anyone out and about this late in the day with say… a bike or a scooter or something. Reese could certainly use a ride to ‘borrow’ and make his life easier. Maybe he could investigate that idea more once in the city. There were bound to be some options there…

The kid reluctantly approached the lanky old man, his arms held tightly at his side. Kenjiro wiped the dribble from his mouth. "No need for nervousness, I'm not about to hurt a new friend." Kenjiro reached out his hand for a handshake. The kid shook his head. "C'mon now." Kenjiro let out a short sigh. "C'mon kid, I'm not that scary looking." The kid remained silent his eyes fixated on the man draped over the fountain.
Kenjiro reached back with one of his arms and scraped something from the fountain, keeping his eyes on the kid in front of him. "Rin, help Masura, he'll tell you what to do." He ordered curtly. The little otter leapt into the fountain, a little startled by his trainer's change in tone. Kenjiro held out his hand, now brimming with coins to the child. "Here. Take it as a sign of -" I CAN'T! the child cried out. "And neither should you!" The child continued almost teary eyed. "Those are peoples wishes. If you take them, they won't come true. And and and." The child began to wipe his eyes.
Masura made a chattering noise, instructing Rin, and began to collect coins out of the child's view. Without thinking Kenjiro put a hand on the child's head. "There there. Jeremy. It's going to be alright." Kenjiro continued to comfort the child as his pokemon went to work. "I'm going to teach you the true magic about wishes. Nothing like this phony old fountain." The child sniffled. "Phony?" Kenjiro wiped the child's tears with his dirty sleeve. "That's right, this fountain is a phony."

Kenjiro took a coin from his hand and held it in front of himself. "This here, is one of your wishes." Kenjiro paused flipping the coin in the air with his fingers. "I can tell by this wish, that you wish to make a lot of friends." The child's eyes widened. "How did you-?" Kenjiro caught the coin in the air and smiled. "If I could tell that this fountain was fake, then I must myself, be magic right? Kenjiro smiled softly before patting the boy on the head. "My magical pokemon and I are going to take these wishes with us to a magical place. "
"R-r-really?" Jeremy asked in child-like wonderment. As if he had been waiting for a cue, the small persimmon pokemon jumped from the fountain, landed, gave a twirl, and then winked at his audience of one. Trying to keep up with this facade, Rin also leapt from the fountain, landing on his head before tumbling to the side. " Jeremy. " Kenjiro began. " Here are my two magical helper Pokemon. Masura, and Rin." They each gave a short or bow as they were introduced. "Also." Kenjiro spoke softly placing the coin into the young boy's hand. "Your wish for friends has already been granted." Kenjiro winked before placing a finger in front of his lips. "Plus I'll teach you a secret for making lots of friends. Free of charge, but I need a teeny tiny favor. "
"Wow, you're amazing Mr. Hashimoto! Jeremy cheered, an innocent smile illuminating his face. "Favor? Kenjiro motioned for his pair of workers to continue gathering coins. "Yes, a small favor. In fact you're the only one in the whole world who can help me." Kenjiro said somewhat singsongsy. "Leave it to me!" Jeremy chirped as Kenjiro smirked. " Ah. I knew you were a good kid. I just need you to bring me some of your dad's clothes. " Jeremy spoke curious. "What do you need with Dad's clothes?" Kenjiro waved the question away. " Just some old clothes he won't miss, oh and a towel. " Jeremy tried to question further, but Kenjiro interrupted and insisted he be off on his little chore.
When the child was finally out of earshot Kenjiro let out a long sigh. "What kid his age, doesn't want to make lots of friends." He emptied his pockets and looked down at the mon looking up at him. "Trust me Rin, these coins are a lot better in our pockets than just siting here. Plus I promise I will teach the little snot how to make friends. After looking in all directions, Kenjiro undressed and sat in the fountain. "The train's bathroom won't miss this." He said taking a nearly used up bag of soap from his belongings. The dirty man began to hum as he lathered himself, and his two pokemon.

Kenjiro scrubbed himself before pausing to look at the otter mon. "See these scars?" he said pointing to his arms which had various old marks. "Printer jams." Kenjiro chuckled in his recollection. "One too many times sticking my arms where they didn't belong... Seems silly now, but it was a much quicker and cheaper solution than waiting for a repairman."
Kenjiro scrubbed his pokemon carefully, but diligently. "Even with all your fur, you're both much cleaner than I am." He paused. "Well, I suppose Rin just joined us, and hasn't had a chance to properly experience the dust of the earth." He scrubbed the Dedenne's head. "Hey Masura, you missed behind your ears. That's no good." The persimmon pokemon squeaked slightly from his master's scrubs.
The old man finally lathered his his overgrown hair. " I hope that kid gets back soon, or we'll probably catch a cold." As if on cue, a young voice rang out. "I've got the things that you asked." "Good job Jeffery." Kenjiro praised. "It's Jeremy." The child corrected. "Set the stuff there and turn around kid." The child did so. With that the old man rose from his makeshift tub, washing the soap from his hair from the fountains spouts. He grabbed the towel, stepped out of the now dirty fountain and began to dry his bony body. After quickly drying he grabbed the fresh clothes and slipped them on. "Tie dye track pants and a red Alola shirt? I'm certainly not going to win any prizes."
Kenjiro stashed the collection of coins into his new track pockets, and beckoned to his two pokemon. They jumped out of the fountain and shook the water from their bodies. Kenjiro managed to shield himself with the towel, before dropping the towel on the kid's head and collecting his things. "C'mon you two, it's time to go." Kenjiro said as he began walking.
"Wait!" Jeremy exclaimed "What about the secret to having lots of friends?!" "Oh that." Kenjiro scratched his head before answering. "Just be yourself." And with that the three now clean travelers made their way out of town, leaving a dirty, empty, fountain and a bewildered youngster. "Ehhhhhhhhhhh?!"
