Step Two

Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)

Roll 1d8
1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave!
2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does!
3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave!
4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do!
5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave!
6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave!
7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do!
8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does!

He moved to another cave, the neighbor of the last, though this one was half as small and was a tight squeeze to get into. It made him nervous, but after looking inside of it, he finally turned himself in and made sure hie oxygen tank could fit without pulling on the tubes.

Once inside, he looked for what he could find.

He hide behind the rock that nearly blocked the enterance of the cave and started to search. Since it was a tight fit to get inside, he imagined that it would be rather full with stones, and while the stones he found weren't small, he didn't find many.

But he did find a handful, and for that he felt better. The more stones he got, the better he felt. It was a bit addicting to keep finding more and more, and he wished he could just stay here for the entire day. More stones.

More.

Adjusting Roll to 5

He swam out again and looked around before moving to another smaller cave. They were tiny, and this one he had to duck down into. It made him uncomfortable, but it also was proving to not be high on the priority list of inviting homes of sea creatures. He moved inside, and felt around on the ground.

The cave was small, and he felt a bit cornered inside of it, but once inside, he felt the back and saw it didnt' really go that far into the wall at all. It was almost a small cubbyspace of a cave and probably unfit for the larger monsters.

A reassuring thought.

He looked around and found plenty of stones, and he plunked them all inside of his bag. At this rate, he even felt better just being able to pull the large bag around. He even felt it more and more these days by swimming. It was working out along and not among the massive Suns or even beefier division hunters who made him small time at the various weightlifting machines seem laughable.

He stayed in the cave a moment, looking out. Blue, dark water. Passing fish. It was alive here. Quiet here. Distant here. It was almost like dreaming but he felt so much around his body.

The next cave was larger, and fish were rustling by the sand. Upon entering, a large fish dashed by him, brushing against him and dashed out into the dark blue waters and into the field of seaweed in the distance.

He watched it go before checking inside.

He checked the cave, but with it being so wide and large, it had already been cleaned out. He did find one stone in the sand. He placed it in his bag, brushed aside a small fish that was trying to get inside, and then swam back out.

Adjusting to 3

He passed to the next cave, stopping only when he saw a mermaid's shadow pass overhead, before he went low to the ground and swam into the cave.

He found a set of stones inside, through the sand and past dead seaweed that had somehow floated inside and curled up. He sorted through the sand and dead grass before he found the stones, and placed them in his bag. He looked out again, noticing two more mermaids swimming past and envied how easily they moved through the water.

Once they were gone, he swam back out.

Adjusting to 7

The mermaids here seemed to patrol more than guard, and he made his way alongside a collection of boulders, head low and moving through some seaweed that thankfully didn't grab him. He had to keep moving from cave to cave or he would be spotted.

He moved slowly into the next cave, looking up at the passing mermaids rather than at the cave he was entering - which was not smart.

He was grabbed quickly before he noticed it, and the tendrils gripped his body, waist, legs and arms. he felt them about his neck and pulling on the tubes to his oxygen tank. He was pulled into the darkness of the cave, back, back, further into what formed into a tunnel.

He couldn't see anymore, and he dug his hands around the tendrils around his neck, pulling on them as they snaked about his body. Tearing them off, he then reached to the ones around him, pulling at them as quickly as he could and pulling at others that had wrapped around him again. Once he had most of his limbs free, he swam to the cave entrance. He had heard something in the darkness of the cave. Something that moved the water. Something large.

The tendrils were only a small part of it. He didn't want to know about the other part of it.

As quick as he could, he swam out of the cave and nearly collided with a boulder in front of the entrance. He held to it, taking deep gasping breathes before looking back.

Bubbles issued out of the cave - but noting came for him.

The last cave had his hands shaking, and he leaned against the wall outside the caves a moment as he just took deep breathes. After a while, he looked up, and then hunched low when he saw a passing fish the size of a train, and he felt its shadow pass him like a cold wind.

After a moment, he knew he needed cover again, and moved to the next cave, but he had to take a moment of slowly nearing it before he even got close enough to look inside. He checked the entrance a few times, sticking his arm in to see if anything bite or caught it, but after a while of nothing happening, he slowly moved inside.

He checked the small cave more slowly. He kept looking to the back of the cave, then to the front, eyes darting about as he felt around the ground and looked. Every gurgle of water from his air tank and ever passing fish had him jumping.

He had to calm down.

Taking deep breathes, he finally allowed himself to not feel so shaken, and after a moment, collected the small stones he found before slowly swimming out again. He just needed to go slowly. He needed to pace himself.

The next cave got the same treatment. He went near it, but did not enter. He put his hand on the mouth of the cave to see if it moved before testing his whole arm. After that was done, he slowly moved in.

This cave was barren and the ground a thick, sleek slate. There was nothing here, and he only managed to find one stone among the broken rocks. He also found what looked to be a few fish skeletons.

This probably wasn't a good cave to be in, and so he swam back out.

The moment he left the last cave, he had to quickly dart into the next to avoid a shark. Or well, it looked kind of like a shark - but it also seemed to have weird wings on it's back............or maybe those were hands.

He wasn't sure.
