Oh, ******** him. ******** this little boy and his cute little smile and the way he looked like a happy puppy getting stomach scritches. With every sweet look, Maebe regretted ever offering to make out with him in a dark corner. She regretted a lot of things, all at once.
And then he leaned in and took her by surprise, and she gave zero ******** about regret.
Otto's kiss was - despite his assurance of experience - masterful. She let out a surprised gasp, before melting into the heady mindless warmth of making out. This was why people kissed, after all. The lovely thoughtless moments, floating just a few inches above the ground as your body responded to what it thought was a precursor to satisfaction. Kissing was like a gateway drug, when you had the right partner.
And much to Peyton's future distress.. Otto was an excellent partner.

Mya was not late. She arrived exactly at the moment in time she intended to arrive. Of course, some time had to be spent taking the children to their little party, followed by obligatory chit chat with the other parents in attendance, as well as checking on who would be chaperoning, to ensure that they were suitable to be looking after her kids for the evening.
And then, when she felt good and ready to leave Julie and little Rommy alone at their own soiree, she made her way to the main hall where all of the adults would be having one of their own. Her long dark hair with it's few grey streaks that she refused to color over had been carefully curled and styled to fall over one shoulder, and her dress fitted her body, lithely toned from years upon years of hard work and training, absolutely perfectly.
But maybe none was so perfect as the man who's arm she had her own wrapped around, her hand resting on a bicep, her head leaning against him as they made their way together into the room. "Do you think that Juliet seemed a bit anxious to see us off?" She tilted her head back, eyebrows arching in question to the man who was so much taller then she. "Perhaps she has found herself some small crush, a boyfriend she did not want us to meet." Her tone was thoughtful, though slightly bemused as well, as her heels clicked across the floor.
Leaving Peyton behind in the dining room without a backwards glance, Taym licked the last of salt and crumbs off his thumb and tried not to look like he was doing what he was doing, which was entering the room for no reason other than he'd spotted a fiery red braid from a distance. Clerise was, he saw immediately, already surrounded by friends, and there was the customary twinge of envy but he wouldn't have interrupted there for the world.
Or not interrupted her too much. He reached out and stealthily pinched her a** on his way past, a little chagrined that she hadn't worn a skirt.
And yet not stealthily enough. Ben caught Taym's wandering hand before he could reach home free and slowly shook his head, though his eyes were smiling rather mischievously. This territory was clearly off bounds.
And then he pinched Clerise's other buttcheek.

"Yes, I'm doing very well sir," not even a flash of defiance, just an even sort of patience from having overexposure to having to spend hours creating and laying out new names for Velda's assistant. Zymyn indeed, he was gunning more for Zvonko. "I am sure division assistant paperwork is absolutely more important than a New Years family reunion, seeing as only one of us is lacking family."
Nonetheless he looked concerned as he kissed Velda goodbye, just on the forehead like a princess and then promised her something about a small gift and dance later. His eyes didn't leave Zvonko until the two of them were far out of sight.
There was a moment of tense awkwardness that made most people looking for snacks in the vicinity find someone else. Granted, Caelius would never actually have murderous tendencies ever as he was quiet when he got mad, not an outright psychopath, but there always was that unanimous what if.
An even longer pause before he turned his attention back towards Harrison's, intent on providing leverage."I appreciate your company, Harrison, but I am afraid my little Willy can get slightly pre-occupied at times. You see, Velda and I are getting old, in Hunter years and we are looking to retire and well, William hasn't had that much luck with his assets. You can at least provide a grandchild for us with your donations, I'm sure you could accomplish such a small thing, it would be a shame to retire and not have any grandkids of our own. This island isn't going to procreate by itself and I'm sure you would have wonderful offspring."

Clerise jumped a little, whipping her head around to catch who did it-- and grinned (wider) when it was just Taym. She shook her butt a little as Ben did a follow up pinch, followed by one from Clarice, too, and shrugged her shoulders at him.
Sorry, pirate boy, it seemed to say, but these are my hot dates tonight.
(The wink afterwards implied: maybe later.)
She leaned over to whisper something to Ben, something about it being a pity that she couldn't give him a junk-squeeze without being called crude, and offered up a quick kiss to just below his jaw instead.
For a moment Taani was just standing there, unsure of what to do, a bit of that uncertainty creeping onto her face. She had never been to a ball before, and had no idea where to even start when it came to such things. Then there was a tap on her shoulder, and she closed her eyes for a second, opening them with a smile fixed on her face. When in doubt, perform. She turned, bangles jingling, until she was facing the owner of that hand, smile faltering when she caught sight of a vest that surely, surely did not exist.
She could do this. Her hands pressed together in front of her, fingertips pointed up, she spoke. Her voice came out strong, possibly just a bit loud, as if practiced. And it was. The words had ran through in her mind several times, trying to remind herself to speak in English. "Namaste, I am Taani. It is a pleasure to meet you."
It might have looked as if she lowered her eyes demurely, but in reality her gaze was drawn to the man's chest as if they were magnetized. It was as if he had no sense of fashion, or perhaps he was the comedic relief of the plot. Surely that was it, he must be a funny man. It was the only possible explanation. Whether it was for her own sanity, to prove herself right, or in a sudden fit of insanity she found herself asking "do you know any comics?" No, that was not right. She snapped her fingers a couple of times, trying to think. "Funnies? Jokes?"

Taym's answering look at Ben's grabbing his wrist wasn't actually all that friendly for the fraction of a second it took him to remember who he was dealing with and for the instinctive territoriality to die down. Then it morphed into a grin, all wrongs forgotten, and he snaked in for another pinch anyway as soon as Clarice did. He didn't have any claim to what he was pinching like Clarice and Ben did, but by god, he was going to pinch it anyway.
He was already moving away by the time Clerise gave him the look, and he'd prepared for it. He was pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, and he returned it with a shrug and a jerk of his chin at the door. Sorry, going out to smoke anyway it said, a convenient excuse to leave her, and then a theatrically mouthed oh s**t! and an exaggerated throwing of his hand over his mouth, a child caught with his finger in the frosting he'd just been told not to mess up.
Lucas was having a perfectly good evening, and looking forward to an even better one. He had cleaned up a bit, actually combed his hair before putting on his formal cowboy hat, and even splashed on a bit of the aftershave that Juliet and Romeo had pooled together to get for his birthday. His permanent fiance looked better than anyone else in the room, and he knew what was under that dress to vouch for that.
"Huh?" He asked to her first question, a distracted sort of sound as he took in the room before looking down at her, seeing that she was actually somewhat serious in her question if she was gazing at his magnificence rather than the novelty of the buzz around them. He shrugged the shoulder she wasn't leaning on, evening still not ruined.
Then she just had to keep talking. Perhaps Mya found it amusing, but as the words processed he came to a dead stop, boots firmly planted. "What sorta boy would be good'nough for my daughter? I'm all the man she needs in her life!"
So maybe he was a bit loud, but Juliet was 10. 10! It was way too early for her to have a crush on someone. Maybe when she was 18, but no formal dating until she was 21. She was Daddy's little girl after all. "We'd better go pick her up."

So he had tried to appear decently dressed. Mostly because Becca wouldn't have allowed himself or Cody out of the house otherwise. But he didn't really care. The mist hunter just sulked as he was dragged - next to Cody - to the ball or whatever it was they were attending. Something nice and sweet and-
"Heeeey!" Lex complained. "I don't need no babysitter. Perhaps your husband does." He added. Giving Cody a punch.
And then Uncle Lex got a look at the ladies surrounding his nephew.
A huge grin split across his face.
"Now thatta boy! You got yourself two pretty things here." He gave Otto a clap on the back, nudging Cody at the same time. "Totally your kid." He added.
And kept Cody between himself and Becca.

It had taken her a long while to pick a light dress she felt remotely comfortable in. Several had been discarded in the process and then there had been the moment where she'd decided she wasn't going to attend some stupid 'ball' or 'party' of any sort. Except she really wanted to get out of the house. Not that she had grown tired of her husband or anything of that nature! In fact, Fini could say the past few years had been her happiest.
Until a few months ago when her pregnancy entered it's third trimester.
Now she wanted to murder just about anyone on sight half the time. Or sleep, if she was lucky. She had to admit that Finn's half brother, Ripley, was pleasant enough to talk to. Finn himself would always be her favorite person. And probably the one she'd owe the biggest apology too once she had their kid.
Heaving a huge sigh, Fini Connor made her way slowly towards the ball, knowing Finn would be there waiting. Her back ached and her feet hurt, but she had decided to go. But walking there took some time (once she had picked an outfit at least) and by the time she got there, she just leaned against the wall for a few minutes, watching everyone around her. God she was ready to have this baby already! With some extra effort, she fished out her phone.

"Miss Aria! Miss Aria!" A bundle of dirty-blonde haired joy wearing a World of Warcraft Alliance T-shirt suddenly sprouted up right next to the Mist assistant. If he had a tail he would be wagging it. "I finished today's daily quest line, what should I do next? More dishes to slay, oh, oh I know, more brooms to collect rare dust ore with!"
He practically bounced on the spot and looked at his quest giver with giant excited eyes.

Lina blinked owlishly as their photo was taken, suddenly shy as she fixed her hair behind her ear; she was the kind of girl who liked looking at photos but never failed to be self-conscious of any involving herself. Please let that be a good photo of her please please."A toast to the three cool people," she enthused softly and tilted back the glass, making a small face at the apple cider's taste but swallowing anyway. Time to Be An Adult and all.
Around the time someone came and . . . disturbed Clerise was around the time Lina decided they should probably leave them alone--preferably before Gale got embarrassed again. She reached out to take his hand and was about to suggest they try the buffet when she heard someone shout her mother's name. Excellent!
"We'll see you around," she told them with a smile and a little bow. "Or, um, if not, then Happy New Years~" And with that she slid her fingers between Gale's and tugged him away. Normally she would have tried avoiding her mother, but today was a holiday, and she needed to show off how cute and handsome and not-needing of bear mace her date was. And, well, if she knew anything about her parents, it was that it was impossible to hide from them for long anyway.
"Let's visit Mom for a bit," she told Gale as they walked, sounding a little apologetic that they weren't getting a lot of breathing time to themselves just yet. Nevertheless, with an excited look she leaned in and added in a whisper, "Plus I think she's warmed up to you now . . . Oh! Maybe we could all sit down and have a nice dinner this time." Maybe. There was only one way to find out.

Hm. Namaste, that was Indian, wasn't it? (And was he detecting an accent?) It left Milo with a chuckle, realizing it seemed to be completing the look; the sari, the bangles, the beautiful complexion. Not like he was judging or anything, because his company was lovely (when she turned, he had given her one of those glances, looking her up and down while trying not to look like he was giving her one of those glances). But well, she was simply confirming a thought he had had. "Milo," he returned the favor of name exchanges while bowing his head slightly towards her, "Awesome to meet ya." Yes, he was also going to stick with English for now and not babble two of the greetings that were not; even if he was going with something unconventional as it was.
The look she in turn began to give him did not go unnoticed, though he was caught wondering if it was one of those looks or she had been caught transfixed on his amazing vest. But the brunette didn't get a chance to comment when her singular question arose. "Comics?" His smile soon tugged, puzzled as the titles of stuff his siblings read went flashing by. American companies, Japanese, even a few French ones... but then stopped as she began to snap her fingers as she tried to place a better word. Milo watched, raising a brow and then let out a hum when she landed on what she was really trying to ask of him.
Jokes? "Jokes, ya? Hm..." Because he didn't know a lot. More correctly, didn't know a lot of clean or simple, not so convoluted 'you kind of had to be there, know the subject' ones. Then his own fingers snapped as one sprung up, "Aaa, so, what did one ocean say to th' other?" He paused, his mouth wide in a stupid sort of grin. "Nothin' they just waved!"
In his head.
Along with a very feminine groan, who was desperately trying to stay out of this.

Haha, know the feeling. Trying to figure this Milo out, though he's not that different. Was also trying to find a really bad joke ....

The place was looking more like a fancy PTA assembly than a ballroom, and among couples and parents, he started to feel a little crowded. His mother' snagging voice drilling him about getting settled and grandchildren could be heard in the back if his head, and he decided a hard drink was in order.
He turned and left for now.

In a bit of a Cinderella twist, Abbi was running late because she had neglected to finish her chores at the behest of her Mama Zoey. So it was that the teen rushed around until later than planned to finish what she'd been required to do before she carefully hurried back to her own room to dress. The caution was necessary because her dearest adoptive mother had carefully, and quite prettily, piled all of the teen's hair upon her hair in a complicated, curly updo that would undoubtedly fall sometime in the night and lose its curl before the stroke of midnight. But Abbi really didn't care, not when she had such a patient and sweet fellow waiting for her.
All grins and flushed cheeks, the teen finally bustled out of her room, moving a bit more than usual so she could hear the swish her very fancy dress before she closed the door behind her. "Happy New Years!" She greeted Ripley a bit breathlessly as she'd been doing quite a bit of running, her feet partially uncertain in white kitten heels before they stopped her just a step too close to him. "Woooooooooooooow you look super fancy!" Abbi cooed at him, one hand unable to stop itself as it reached out to slide down one lapel. The hand was quickly snatched back in case that was too much, but she couldn't help the unabashed smile she turned up to him. "You ready? Sorry it took me so long, I can't wait to see everything! This is gonna be somuchfun!"
