No, no, no, wait, this wasn't supposed to happen, wait wait -
Around them, around his whole motley little team, things were beginning to shake, to tremble, and Gale let out a yell of surprise, staggering backwards. He reached for whoever was closest, anyone, trying to help pull people to safety, shout that they should run for the exits as fast as they could, but it was too chaotic and too loud to be heard, and then -
He stared at their surroundings because this was not possible, this could not be possible. Gale's eyes were wide as he took a step towards the Sun Hunter, opening his mouth to answer and then promptly shutting it again. "The...thing?" he repeated, and glanced at the trainees around him, as though they might know the answer to this positively baffling situation.
"No," said Gale, after a short pause, and he took a small breath. "No, we didn't, ah...get the thing."
He had no idea what the thing even was.

There was something unsettling about blinding lights. Oh right, that's because one time he was eaten when he saw a bright blue one and the other time he had been sent to the desert and smushed. Well, this one was red, so maybe it would have been different.
It kind of was. When Milo peeled his eyes back open, things had certainly changed from where he was standing just before. Much more shambles, wait, was this the lighthouse? And there was a Hunter, one from his division apparently. His green eyes peered from them to Gale, whom was being addressed more specifically than they were.
Milo found himself in the same boat as Solomon. Confused. And rather curious. They needed a thing, "was it at a place with some stuff?" And yet, still finding himself amused.

"Very funny Milo," said the Hunter closer to the door, a younger Mist Hunter in a trainee coat, "Just because you saved my live that one time in the Sahara you wont let me up. You might be my sempai or whatever, but if you would let up the joking just once in a while."
The Sun Hunter addressing Gale rolled his eyes. "Don't mind Dave, he's just really jumpy, we all are, after that last incident. They took down the last of the towers, we had to retreat to the second tier underground, we lost two Hunters and a lookout base." He furrowed his eyes. "Are you - are you all okay? You were gone for three day and-"
There was a series of loud blasts outside, what sounded like a foghorn out of all things. The noise subsided, and both Hunter visibly tensed.
"Emergency evac, looks like north tower needs our help. With due respect, I hope your mission went well, otherwise we are in a whole lot of s**t."
They both began to strap on utility belts, equipped with the usual Runic weapons and a strange variety of technology that seemed a little sleeker than the usual Deus wares, all glowing bright yellow. Lastly, they put on a gas mask, and gestured for the others to do the same. "Here we got spares, put these on. Let's move."
The Mist Hunter, Dave, warily peeked outside the door, quickly hid back, and then gestured for them silently to follow. "Coast is clear, let's go. Follow me." His voice came back slightly muffled thanks to the mask.
It was foggy outside, as they hit the exit, and it was foggier still as they ran. How anyone could make heads or tails from what was clear or not remained a mystery entirely. At some point the foghorn blasted again, and then there was a strange, unnerving noise, an odd clattering behind and around them.
"s**t!" The Sun Hunter picked up his pace. "Move! They're right behind us. I'll hold them off." He disappeared quickly into the thick fog behind them, though the sound of screeching and then loud clattering could be heard behind them along with gunfire. The sounds died off, replaced by a single shrill screech. For a second you see several shapes emerge from the fog, long spider-like appendages and a flash of thousands of yellow eyes that quickly dissolved into white-
- and then silence.
"Almost there!" confirmed Dave, "Thirty yards. Eyes on the prize."
OOC: ESCAPING THE LIGHTHOUSE
THE ESCAPE:
- The next outpost is 30 yards ahead. All Hunters must rush for the exit! Roll 1d6 to see how you do as you finally hit the entrance, a small cave leading underground.
Rolling a 1: You see a flash of something again, spider-like appendages followed by a long centipede head - you manage to escape before anything happens. Rolling a 2: Something snags into your coat, tearing it slightly. Thankfully you manage to escape mostly unscathed. Rolling a 3: You nearly trip over something, but it didn't feel like any insect creature. You are screamed at to run before you can examine it furhter Rolling a 4: Something scrapes against your Fear shield, and you feel your weapon visibly recoil, as if stung or hurt. Rolling a 5: You hear someone screaming behind you in the fog in agony, but you can't help them, not if you can't see them. Someone else shouts at you to keep on running Rolling a 6: You reach the outpost almost uneventfully.
Once inside: Several Hunters, also wearing masks apprehend you and usher you quickly inside to safety, which consists of a small, tiny den underground. There isn't even enough room to sit, and furniture inside is mostly blackened and blasted. The few Hunters inside all look terse and pale, all also wearing gas masks. There is a Moon Hunter, Life Hunter, and Mist Hunter within the room. Players are free to ask them questions!
Moon Hunter - Her face is covered up by the gask mask but her coat clearly marks her as a Moon Hunter
Life Hunter - He's currently tending to a wounded Mist Hunter on the floor. He seems busy and is swearing under his breath, his hands covered in blood as he crudely stitches the Mist Hunter's torn, bloody leg shut, applying pressure where possible.
Mist Hunter - Her blood is dripping all over the floor, and it seems at some point she lost consciousness.

Finn had no idea what the ******** was going on, anymore.
He had stood back, while the others had tested the key combination on the door. He had suffered through the same change in scenery, the same confusion as everyone else, and was now feeling thoroughly disoriented with what was going on.
But it didn't seem like he was going to be given much time to try and think it through.
Gearing up, he followed the others out into the fog, following whoever was closest and trusting they knew where they were going. He ran and ran, and soon enough there was yelling to tell them they were only thirty yards from their destination. He slowed down as somebody went back, eyes widening slightly at what he could only catch glimpses of, and without a second thought he was on his way again, feet hitting the ground, fists pumping, his breathing quick, his pace picking up.
And then something hit him. Or at least, scraped against him. For just a moment all he could think about was the mandibles that had scraped by him in the Sahara, before an insect leg wound up penetrating through his arm, breaking the bone and filling his body with poison.
Trynt, who had been growling steadily in the back of his mind, suddenly cut off, recoiling in his head with a hiss.
< Keep running. >
No kidding.
Eventually, he reached the destination with the others, and skidded to a halt, breathing heavily. What the hell was going on? He stood up straighter and tried to listen to the conversations around him, while slowly making his way towards the Moon hunter.
Then hissed at the fog curling around them. One loud scream and she was running after all the others.
Until it was clear for her, she went automatically to the mist huntress.

Dave.....
Did he not remember as much of that Sahara trip as he had thought? At some point had he blacked out and performed some amazing feat without his recollection? For a moment the possibility frightened Milo, but it was quickly replaced by the thought of awesome. Because he had apparently been awesome, saved some guy and gained an underling.
< Aho, you really think ->
Don't take this away from me. I gained a kohai. And some manner of respect. Kind of. Everything seemed relative with this Dave person. "Never...." Milo responded in kind in a gravely Batman-y voice, still giving the Mist some Fry face. His head canon seemed totally possible since they had apparently been gone for three days - wait, what?
Squinty eyes to you, Sun Hunter. And a raised eyebrow. Confusion was rolling right on in again, and in full effect as the foghorn sounded in the distance. The trainee looked to the superiors for a moment, trying to gain a clue and then to the offered gas mask before putting it on. Well, at least they were getting some better warning before they would be possibly eaten. Equipment seemed rather cool too.
Milo followed the cluster out into the fog, finding himself sticking a little close to kohai!Dave for various reasons; mostly for that special sempai bond he wanted to have. He wanted to ask questions, especially with what he had but even he knew it wasn't the time. And moreso when they were told to run for it. The brunette gave a quick glance back as unnamed Sun Hunter disappeared into the fog with his guns blazing.
There was that debate of the course of action, to follow orders or to try and be a big damn hero and help his nakama, even as unfamiliar as the guy was. But Milo pressed forward towards the cave, stopped only when he felt a tug and stumbled backwards for a step, "hurk ~" And thankfully he didn't meet much more resistance from .. whatever had gotten him when he pulled forward. There had been a ripping sound though.
And soon enough he found out the extent of it when he got to safety. The hem on one side had a large tear in it and he pouted behind his mask, and was thankful no one could see the longing look he was giving it. His coat. It had battle damage. Somehow he had managed not to give it a heavy sigh.
Instead, "dude.... lady, should we go help him?" He asked the unoccupied Moon Hunter, letting go of the coat so it could settle back to free his hand to gesture to where they had come from. Even with that concern, his gaze was already looking about to spot those familiar faces with names. Oh good, he could spot some already.

Chel ran and ran until she had to take a second to breath. Then an insect-like tendril danced across her wobbly legs, and she ran some more. No matter how fast she went, it seemed like the outpost got farther and farther away.
Until she slammed into the cave entrance. Once there, she looked around and saw a few hunters collapsed on the ground. Were they faces she knew? Oh god- one had blood! Grosss gross gross.
She looked around to see who had made it. Her eyes first fell on Milo, so she scooted over to him and shakily gave him a hug. Nevada was next, and invited to join the hug. To the twosome, she asked, "Is he ... Are they anyone you guys know?"

Shiloh ran, because at that point there wasn’t much else to do. He didn’t recognize any of the hunters to whom they’d returned to, nor did he have a good feeling about the fact that they had to leave wearing the gas masks provided. That was never a good sign.
Still, again came the point that staying put was almost as likely to get him killed as was moving, so Shiloh donned his mask and ran. It was a mad rush, hunters moving out towards the single point ahead and Shiloh’s first thought was to lag back, and to make sure everyone made it safe, seemingly having not learned much from Caelius’ speeches. But as he paused midstep, something terrifying illuminated in a flash of light, a giant insect head appearing amidst wriggling, awful spider legs. Shiloh started to shout, but as his mouth hung open, any noise died on its way out; in the span of a blink, whatever it was was gone. Whatever it was, had seemed incredibly similar to the desert insects they’d encountered before, and it was enough to save Shiloh from any further thoughts of heroism. He ran until he reached the outpost, not daring to look back.
Once inside, he had hoped to catch his breath, but the hunters inside looked even worse for wear than their group did, and there was no break to be had.
The last incident? Stormy was about to ask what he meant when the foghorn sounded and her nightmares came back to visit her.
There was a different sort of terror that went through her, more than the natural aversion she'd gained after the Sahara; there was a primal terror that infected the Mist trainee along with that flood of anxiety and adrenaline at the sight of the monstrous insect in the fog. The mask barely contained her strangled cry as Stormy stretched her legs to the limit, barreling into the underground cavern without stopping--up until she all but smacked into the nearest wall, whose hard surface was a comfort despite the pain.
Her face smarted but she knew better than to take off her mask. Wincing, she turned around and pressed her back to the wall, gaze flickering between those gathered (and a most unreadable expression upon the trio). "H-How did the Insanity get this bad? What's going on?" she asked the moon hunter while she caught her breath, as she didn't want to upset the concentration of the Lifer and it was clear the Mist (the Mist, she gulped) was out like a light from . . . from blood. Stormy was unabashed in her need to know, even though apparently they already were supposed to here.

Somehow in the trek from beating that nasty raptor and to the door, Abbi had lost her Mist friend. Maybe Molly just hadn't hopped through the portal, because now that the teen tried to find her fellow ginger, she was nowhere to be seen. After a moment of qq'ing to herself, that ended when the girl was pulled through back to the lighthouse. That was weird... But not as weird as... Well everything that happened next. She was handed a gasmask (was it appropriate to make a 'are you my mummy' joke?) that she hastily put on before she followed the others. Now would be a really good time to find Nevada who she'd promised to stick close to and whoops, here Abbi was off on her own. Now was probably a really bad time to try and make new friends, so instead she shelved the idea for the moment and just hustled after everyone else. At least for the most part...
An odd tug on her coat made the girl pause her run, slowing a little as she tried to pull it back from whatever thing had got her. The most curious, and unsettling, thing was the fact that the part of her coat that had been snagged just... Disappeared into a bit of fog. There was nothing holding it in particular save for some colorless, opaque mist. Startled, Abbi yanked at her coat with a squeak that was followed by the light tearing sound of fabric. A moment of frustration sparked within her over her previously pristine coat being ruined, but it was just a small tear. It could be fixed. Being stranded in this fog could not. She had caught sight of those squiggly things when Dave disappeared and the panic she was keeping at bay simply by gripping her scythe tighter to her was still there, waiting. Just like those things... With that thought firmly in her mind the girl was off, making it to the outpost uneventfully after that. No one caught her immediate eye besides the group of Hunters already there, but she quickly made a bee-line for the Moon hunter. "UUUMMMM I saw something in the fog and I kind of would like to know A- what it is and B- does it spit acid please say it doesn't." It was hard to tell with the gas mask on and all, but Abbi was giving the woman a pleading, yet somehow still eager, look.
What? What? There was not time for questions when given the gasmask, just the sound of pounding footsteps and the wailing sirens. From one s**t storm to the next, apparently. He was tiring of this repetitive pattern, but tried his best to keep his usual cheery, laid back attitude about him.
Halfway there, he thought. Just a little more, just keep sprinting-
<< ********. Whelp, run faster! >> Regal cawed, Lex flinching at the combined sensations of the gryphon's screech and the vile presence that had just touched his FEAR shield. Regal didn't react like this when hit, causing the man to run at a faster rate.
Breathless, he nearly tumbled into the cave. Finding a few others, he took a squatted position next to Stormy and the Life Hunter, examining the Mist that had been passed out.
"I'd like to know that too..." He coughed, turning his head to the Life Hunter."Sir, is there anything I can do to assist?"

He didn't understand what was going on.
One moment they had been investigating the missing base in Ireland, the next they had been thrown headfirst back to a place that both looked and didn't look like the Deus Ex Headquarters. And the hunters on duty knew who they were and yet were entirely unrecognizable.
Gale's head hurt.
"We're," he said, casting a sideways glance at Nevada, and then at Milo, Finn, Chelsea, Abbi, and the rest of the lot, all of whom looked just as confused and bewildered as he did. "We're fine," he said, looking at the tech who had answered him. "Really, we just need to - "
But the rest of his sentence was lost amidst the chaos. Gale had little time for questions, and even less time for answers, automatically following suit. "Wait," he tried to say, "What's going on, what's - "
He ran alongside the rest of his team, trying to keep them all in view, make sure they were safe. Loud bangs and crashes echoed around him, and Gale felt his foot catch on something, something he didn't want to identify. He grunted, heard a yell from somewhere to his left, and dragged himself back up, running pel mel towards the next outpost.
Once inside, he tore off his mask and, breathing heavily, turned to the everyone else.
"Everyone okay?" he asked, looking them over, and then turned to look at the Moon Hunter.
"What just happened? Where are we?"

Jack didn't need to be told twice. Mask on, thirty yards ahead, go, go, go. He heard a distant roar of some beast he was glad he couldn't see, but the screaming was hard to ignore. Another hunter yelled to keep moving (again, he didn't need to be told twice), and the screaming eventually stopped.
His ears rang unpleasantly.
Ducking into entrance of the outpost, Jack rubbed at where the mask chafed his skin and immediately placed himself by Lex and the Life Hunter, looking attentive and ready to serve. Three days, the guy had said . . .
(( An alternate universe? ))
Hmm.
"Does anyone else need tending?" he asked those in the outpost rather briskly. The last thing he wanted to see was someone getting bugged out.

"We're-" said Moon Hunter Gale addressed cringed as the ceiling shook, the already low beams threatening to collapse even further - "I appreciate the 20 questions boss, but can we wait just a second. After you left, well-"
- What sounded like the combination between a laser beam and a semi-automatic gun echoed in the distance. "You guys go on ahead!" Dave waved to the group, barely noticeable if not for the odd decoration on his coat, a sort of cutesy charm that looked a lot like a worn out Hello Kitty toy, "We'll follow when it's clear. We got this."
The Moon Hunter nodded once, grimly. "Someone help me get all casualties out, we're moving underground!" She went to help the Life Hunter with the injured, and the three of them walked towards the end of the room, where they was an open trap door surrounded by modified Barrier daggers. She tinkered with the door and then pulled it heavily open. "After you."
Thunk, went the door as it closed after them. The only light source underground was that of runes, before the Hunters behind them pulled out torches. They continued to move even as the narrow hall in one direction, and the crude dug-out hall shook heftily. "Don't mind the construction, it's the best we could do. They took almost everyone from outposts C and F after you left. We're in what remains of outpost D, that's pretty much all that's happened." The Moon Hunter continued talking, looking forwards at Gale. "So, did you guys find it? The piece of the legacy? Everyone's counting on you boss."

There was a long stare as Gale tried to make sense of this whole thing. He turned his head towards Milo, and even Jack (though he kept his face impassive at the latter) as though he half expected them to perhaps understand, though that was doubtful. "Er," he said, and it wasn't a particularly confident sounding noise.
<< Play along. Perhaps that will get you answers. >>
"No," said Gale, and this time his voice was much stronger, more confident. "Er, I mean, not yet," he amended, with a sideways glance at his team of trainees. "We haven't managed to obtain it yet. There were..." A pause. "...complications."
